Analogical reasoning is a fundamental capacity of human cognition that allows us to reason abstractly about novel situations by relating them to past experiences. While it is thought to be essential for robust reasoning in AI systems, conventional approaches require significant training and/or hard-coding of domain knowledge to be applied to benchmark tasks. Inspired by cognitive science research that has found connections between human language and analogy-making, we explore the use of intuitive language-based abstractions to support analogy in AI systems. Specifically, we apply large pre-trained language models (PLMs) to visual Raven's Progressive Matrices (RPM), a common relational reasoning test. By simply encoding the perceptual features of the problem into language form, we find that PLMs exhibit a striking capacity for zero-shot relational reasoning, exceeding human performance and nearing supervised vision-based methods. We explore different encodings that vary the level of abstraction over task features, finding that higher-level abstractions further strengthen PLMs' analogical reasoning. Our detailed analysis reveals insights on the role of model complexity, in-context learning, and prior knowledge in solving RPM tasks.

Background: Shufeng Jiedu capsule has been widely used in China for acute upper respiratory tract infections (AURTIs). The aim of this study was to evaluate its effectiveness and safety for AURTIs.Methods: Randomized controlled trials comparing SFJD with conventional drug for patients with AURTIs were included. Eight databases were searched from their inceptions to February 2021. Data was synthesized using risk ration (RR) or mean difference (MD) with their 95% confidence interval (CI). The primary outcome was resolution time of typical symptoms.Results: Twenty-five RCTs involving 3410 patients were included. SFJD in combination with conventional drug was associated with; in common cold shortening the duration of fever (MD −1.54 days, 95% CI [−2.15,−0.92], I2 = 80%, n = 385, 3 trials) and cough (MD −1.22 days, 95% CI [−1.52, −0.93]); in herpangina, shortening the duration of fever (MD -0.68 days, 95% CI [−1.15, −0.21], I2 = 68%, n = 140, 2 trials) and blistering (MD −0.99 days, 95% CI [−1.23, −0.76], n = 386, 3 trials); in acute tonsillitis and acute pharyngitis shortening the duration of fever (MD −1.13 days, 95% CI [−1.36, −0.90], I2 = 33%, n = 688, 7 trials) and sore throat (MD −1.13 days, 95% CI [−1.40, −0.86], I2 = 84.1%, n = 1194, 10 trials). SFJD also improving their cure rate with a range (1–5 days). No serious adverse events were reported.Conclusion: Low certainty evidence suggests that SFJD appears to shorten the duration of symptoms in AURTIs, improve cure rate and seems safe for application. However, high quality placebo controlled trials are warranted to confirm its benefit.

Introduction: Evidence has suggested that shoulder abduction dysfunction after stroke can be treated with acupuncture, but it remains unclear which acupuncture approach may be more effective. This trial compared two different acupuncture interventions (Motor Entry Point acupuncture (MEPA) and Standard acupuncture (SA) for patients experiencing post-stroke shoulder abduction dysfunction. Methods: Hospital in-patients with post-stroke shoulder abduction dysfunction of two weeks duration and who agreed to participate in the trial were randomized into two groups. The SA group received acupuncture treatment at LI15, LI14, LI11, LI10 and LI4 (n = 20); the MEPA group received acupuncture at the mid-third of deltoid (n = 20). Each group received acupuncture for 40 min, 6 times a week for 4 weeks. Outcomes were the range of motion (ROM) and the manual muscle test (MMT). Results: Forty in-patients (19 women, 21 men; age range: 35–75 years) were enrolled in this trial. There was significant improvement in shoulder abduction dysfunction in both groups after 4 weeks of treatment (P＜0.05). The MEPA group reported larger ROM and improved MMT compared to the SA group (P＜0.05) and the recovery of muscle strength in MEPA group was superior to the SA group (P＜0.05). Conclusion: Compared to SA therapy, MEPA therapy may be more effective for treating physical functional disability in post-stroke patients.

The composition, phase transitions and isothermal oxidation dynamics of a new polycrystalline Ni-Cr-Co-W base superalloy are investigated using CALculation of PHAse Diagrams (CALPHAD), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), ThermoGravimetric analysis (TG/dTG), Scanning Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersion Spectrum (SEM/EDS) methods. The microstructure of the designed alloy shows a uniform γ matrix with the precipitates of rich-Ti cellular η and rich-Nb acicular platelet δ phase, and no Topologically Close-packed Phases (TCPs) observed, and the oxide behavior obeys a parabolic law with a parabolic constant (kp) 2.945mg2/(cm4·h) at isothermal 1300°C for 30 hours. The oxide scales are composed of an outer loose oxide mixture containing Cr, Ni, Ti and Nb/Ta and generous pores presented for a volatilization of Cr2O3, and a dense aluminum-rich oxide layer. The dynamic characteristics of the cavity mirror support structure strongly influence the quality of the output beam. However, the contradiction between excellent dynamic performance and light weight make the design process challenging. To cope with the problems encountered in the original design of a chemical oxygen iodine laser system, this paper presents a two-dimensional adjustable support structure based on spherical constraints with large specific stiffness in the initial design phase. Subsequently, a two-level optimization strategy containing a macro design and a detailed design is adopted to optimize the initial structure. At the macro design stage, a two-step topology optimization procedure is introduced, in which the scale of the optimization model is dramatically reduced using the independent continuous mapping algorithm to improve the calculation speed in the first step, and the gray elements are eliminated using the bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization method to clearly obtain the optimal topology in the second step. This method is verified to overcome the defect of low efficiency, while still eliminating gray elements. At the detailed design stage, an adaptive surrogate model and the multi-objective design optimization method are employed to seek the best compromise between the lower weight and higher dynamic performance. The results from the application to the example of the cavity mirror support structure show that the mass is reduced by 41.8%, and the dynamic performance requirement is fulfilled.

The interaction between laser and water flow is very complicated in the absorption chamber of a high energy laser (HEL) energy meter which directly uses water as an absorbing medium. Therefore, the heat exchange model cannot be studied through traditional methods, but it is the most important factor to improve heat exchange efficiency in the absorption chamber. After the exchanges of heat and mass were deeply analyzed, experimental study and numerical fitting were brought out. The original testing data of laser power and water flow temperature at one moment were utilized to calculate those at the next moment, and then the calculated temperature curve was compared with the measured one. If the two curves matched well, the corresponding coefficient was obtained. Meanwhile, numerous experiments were performed to study the effects of laser power, duration, focal spot scale, and water flow rate on heat exchange coefficient. In addition, the relationship between water phase change and heat exchange was analyzed. The heat exchange coefficient was increased by optimizing the construction of the absorption chamber or increasing water flow rate. The results provide the reference for design of water-direct-absorption-typed HEL energy meters, as well as for analysis of the interaction between other similar lasers and water flow.

The problem of reliability enhancement of power plants for micro-satellites is related to the need of assessing their technical state during continuous operation in space. The paper deals with an advanced method of calculating liquid consumption aboard a spacecraft. Electro-capacity meter in the oxidant and fuel pipelines as well as in on-board systems is proposed to be used as a primary transducer. The main advantage of this method is the small size of the sensor, lack of movable parts in it and ability to detect small liquid leaks. All these factors are very important for micro-satellite instrumental equipment. To verify the proposed method an experimental setup based on the measurement of fluid consumption in the capacitive measuring cell was made. With its help experimental dependence between the amount of fluid flow and the change in the rate of discharge of measuring capacitor in capacitive cell was obtained. The main goal of this article is to confirm the possibility of practical application of electro capacitive meter for measuring dielectric liquids consumption. Methods of increasing sensitivity of capacitance flow meter by using additional resistance and capacitance in the structure of primary transducer are considered as well.

Boron nanowires (BNWs) were synthesized using boron powders as boron source and, Si and Ni as catalysts. The diameter of boron nanowires is about 50 ∼ 100 nm and their length is up to several micrometers. The experiments show that Si promotes the growth of boron nanowires. Using Ni(NO 3 ) 2 as Ni sources rather than NiSO 4 produces more highly effective catalytic effects on the growth of nanowires. Additionally, the catalytic process will be improved by synthesizing Ni x B y catalysts before growth rather than simultaneously decomposing the metal salt and growing the boron nanowires (BNWs).

The calibration method using a high-power halogen tungsten lamp as a calibration source has many advantages such as strong equivalence and high power, so it is very fit for the calibration of high-energy laser energy meters. However, high-power halogen tungsten lamps after power-off still reserve much residual energy and continually radiate energy, which is difficult to be measured. Two measuring systems were found to solve the problems. One system is composed of an integrating sphere and two optical spectrometers, which can accurately characterize the radiative spectra and power–time variation of the halogen tungsten lamp. This measuring system was then calibrated using a normal halogen tungsten lamp made of the same material as the high-power halogen tungsten lamp. In this way, the radiation efficiency of the halogen tungsten lamp after power-off can be quantitatively measured. In the other measuring system, a wide-spectrum power meter was installed far away from the halogen tungsten lamp; thus, the lamp can be regarded as a point light source. The radiation efficiency of residual energy from the halogen tungsten lamp was computed on the basis of geometrical relations. The results show that the halogen tungsten lamp’s radiation efficiency was improved with power-on time but did not change under constant power-on time/energy. All the tested halogen tungsten lamps reached 89.3% of radiation efficiency at 50 s after power-on. After power-off, the residual energy in the halogen tungsten lamp gradually dropped to less than 10% of the initial radiation power, and the radiation efficiency changed with time. The final total radiation energy was decided by the halogen tungsten lamp’s radiation efficiency, the radiation efficiency of residual energy, and the total power consumption. The measuring uncertainty of total radiation energy was 2.4% (here, the confidence factor is two).

In order to improve the ability and accuracy of measuring the temporal-spatial distribution of the intensity of a large-size, high-energy laser beam, a novel array detecting method based on diffuse transmission sampling is proposed. The measurement principle and the design of the sampling and attenuating unit are presented. High-temperature-resistant diffuse transmission material is used to sample and attenuate a high energy laser beam. Pure copper, whose surface is first sand-blasted and then gold-plated, is applied to scatter the incident high-energy laser beam. The formula for the attenuation ratio was derived in detail. We developed two large-aperture array detectors with spatial resolution of 5 mm, spatial duty ratio of 20%, and useable angle range of ±30° without varying the responsivity, the non-uniformity in the laser profile measurement is below 1%, and the repeatability error in the laser power measurement is approximately 1%. The maximal energy density that the array detector can endure is more than 10 kJ/cm(2).

Electro-optical equivalent calibration with high calibration power and high equivalence is particularly well-suited to the calibration of high-energy laser energy meters. A large amount of energy is reserved during this process, however, which continues to radiate after power-off. This study measured the radiation efficiency of a halogen tungsten lamp during power-on and after power-off in order to calculate the total energy irradiated by a lamp until the high-energy laser energy meter reaches thermal equilibrium. A calibration system was designed based on the measurement results, and the calibration equivalence of the system was analyzed in detail. Results show that measurement precision is significantly affected by the absorption factor of the absorption chamber and by heat loss in the energy meter. Calibration precision is successfully improved by enhancing the equivalent power and reducing power-on time. The electro-optical equivalent calibration system, measurement uncertainty of which was evaluated as 2.4% (k = 2), was used to calibrate a graphite-cone-absorption-cavity absolute energy meter, yielding a calibration coefficient of 1.009 and measurement uncertainty of 3.5% (k = 2). A water-absorption-type high-energy laser energy meter with measurement uncertainty of 4.8% (k = 2) was considered the reference standard, and compared to the energy meter calibrated in this study, yielded a correction factor of 0.995 (standard deviation of 1.4%).

This paper analyzed physical process of movement of geosynchronous satellites, amendment of booster and measurement of Earth station, established the mathematical models and their linearization; On this base, it gave mathematical model for Kalman filter. Executed simulation for the given mathematical model on the Simplified actual date, simulation result is: Kalman filter effectively reduce estimation error of orbital parameters, it means that parameter identification of orbit has been improved more.

Objective To explored consensus among Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)/integrative medicine (IM) journal executive editors in China regarding: (a) Their perceptions about the differences between papers published in Chinese/English journals; (b) the key elements required for publishing a good quality paper; (c) how editors manage and decide on the manuscripts submitted to their journals. Methods A three round Delphi was conducted with a purposive sample of TCM/IM Chinese journal executive editors. The key themes and items generated from six open ended questions in the first ground were redistributed to the editors in two subsequent questionnaire rounds and scored on a five-point Likert scale. Consensus, reliability and stability of responses were assessed between the editors in the same round and between rounds. Results All ten editors initially agreeing to participate completed the three rounds, provided 60 comments in the first round, relating to 6 themes on: elements of publishing good quality article; differences between Chinese and English published articles; reasons for low quality of Chinese studies; maintaining the journal's good reputation; initiatives and strategies; and differences between Chinese and English versions of the same journal. High levels of consensus were reached for 97% items. Intra-class correlation (ICC) coefficient for agreement among editors was high in both second and third round and there was a good stability between the two rounds. Conclusions High inter/intra-editor agreement was identified in the differences between TCM/IM research papers published in English and Chinese. Publishing standards and probity are keys in elevating the reputation of research. Editors' perspectives in maintaining and improving quality journal can be viewed as fundamental for editors and researchers in publishing any articles.
