We investigate the blue and optical rest-frame sizes (lambda~2300A-4000A) of three compact star-forming regions in a galaxy at z=4 strongly lensed (x30, x45, x100) by the Hubble Frontier Field galaxy cluster A2744 using GLASS-ERS JWST/NIRISS imaging at 1.15um, 1.50mu and 2.0mu with PSF < 0.1". In particular, the Balmer break is probed in detail for all multiply-imaged sources of the system. With ages of a few tens of Myr, stellar masses in the range (0.7-4.0) x 10^6 Msun and optical/ultraviolet effective radii spanning the interval 3 < R_eff < 20 pc, such objects are currently the highest redshift (spectroscopically-confirmed) gravitationally-bound young massive star clusters (YMCs), with stellar mass surface densities resembling those of local globular clusters. Optical (4000A, JWST-based) and ultraviolet (1600A, HST-based) sizes are fully compatible. The contribution to the ultraviolet underlying continuum emission (1600A) is ~30%, which decreases by a factor of two in the optical for two of the YMCs (~4000A rest-frame), reflecting the young ages (, 10 pages, 4 figures, 1 table. We present the findings for the magnetic activities seen on V1130 Cyg and V461 Lyr. In the case of V1130 Cyg, the secondary component's temperature was found to be 3891 +/- 50 K, while the mass ratio was computed as 0.689 +/- 0.001, and the orbital inclination as 90 degrees.00 +/- 0 degrees.01. The temperature of V461 Lyr's secondary component was found to be 4206 +/- 50 K, and the mass ratio was calculated as 0.999 +/- 0.001 with 89 degrees.58 +/- 0 degrees.01 of orbital inclination. The analyses exhibit the effects of the stellar spots on the light curves. The models indicate that there are two types of flares in the case of V1130 Cyg, and three types of flares for V461 Lyr. The Plateau parameters have been found as 2.1997 s for Group 1 and 1.0068 s for Group 2 in the case of V1130 Lyr. The first few 100 Myr at z > 10 mark the last major uncharted epoch in the history of the universe, where only a single galaxy (GN-z11 at z ≈ 11) is currently spectroscopically confirmed. Here we present a search for luminous z > 10 galaxies with JWST/NIRCam photometry spanning ≈1–5 μm and covering 49 arcmin2 from the public JWST Early Release Science programs (CEERS and GLASS). Our most secure candidates are two MUV ≈ −21 systems: GLASS-z12 and GLASS-z10. These galaxies display abrupt ≳1.8 mag breaks in their spectral energy distributions (SEDs), consistent with complete absorption of flux bluewards of Lyα that is redshifted to =+z12.40.3 0.1and=+z10.40.5 0.4. Lower redshift interlopers such as quiescent galaxies with strong Balmer breaks would be comfortably detected at >5σ in multiple bands where instead we find no flux. From SED modeling we infer that these galaxies have already built up ∼109 solar masses in stars over the ≲300–400 Myr after the Big Bang. The brightness of these sources enable morphological constraints. Tantalizingly, GLASS-z10 shows a clearly extended exponential light profile, potentially consistent with a disk galaxy of r50 ≈ 0.7 kpc. These sources, if confirmed, join GN-z11 in defying number density forecasts for luminous galaxies based on Schechter UV luminosity functions, which require a survey area >10× larger than we have studied here to find such luminous sources at such high redshifts. They extend evidence from lower redshifts for little or no evolution in the bright end of the UV luminosity function into the cosmic dawn epoch, with implications for just how early these galaxies began forming. The 3D-Drift And SHift (3D-DASH) program is a \textit{Hubble Space Telescope} WFC3 F160W imaging and G141 grism survey of the equatorial COSMOS field. 3D-DASH extends the legacy of HST near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy to degree-scale swaths of the sky, enabling the identification and study of distant galaxies ($z>2$) that are rare or in short-lived phases of galaxy evolution at rest-frame optical wavelengths. SPIDERS (The SPectroscopic IDentification of eROSITA Sources) is a large spectroscopic programme for X-ray selected galaxy clusters as part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-IV (SDSS-IV). We describe the final dataset in the context of SDSS Data Release 16 (DR16): the survey overall characteristics, final targeting strategies, achieved completeness and spectral quality, with special emphasis on its use as a galaxy cluster sample for cosmology applications. SPIDERS now consists of about 27,000 new optical spectra of galaxies selected within 4,000 photometric red sequences, each associated with an X-ray source. The excellent spectrograph efficiency and a robust analysis pipeline yield a spectroscopic redshift measurement success rate exceeding 98%, with a median velocity accuracy of 20 km s$^{-1}$ (at $z=0.2$). Using the catalogue of 2,740 X-ray galaxy clusters confirmed with DR16 spectroscopy, we reveal the three-dimensional map of the galaxy cluster distribution in the observable Universe up to $z\sim0.6$. We highlight the homogeneity of the member galaxy spectra among distinct regions of the galaxy cluster phase space. Aided by accurate spectroscopic redshifts and by a model of the sample selection effects, we compute the galaxy cluster X-ray luminosity function and we present its lack of evolution up to $z=0.6$. Finally we discuss the prospects of forthcoming large multiplexed spectroscopic programmes dedicated to follow up the next generation of all-sky X-ray source catalogues., 19 pages, 21 figures. To understand the nature of SiO emission, we conducted ACA observations of the SiO (2-1) lines toward 146 massive star-forming regions, as part of the ALMA Three-millimeter Observations of Massive Star-forming regions (ATOMS) survey. We detected SiO emission in 128 (87.7$\%$) sources and identified 171 SiO clumps, 105 of which are spatially separated from 3 mm continuum emission. A large amount of the SiO line profiles (60$\%$) are non-Gaussian. The velocity dispersion of the SiO lines ranges from 0.3 to 5.43 km s$^{-1}$. In 63 sources the SiO clumps are associated with H$_\rm{II}$ regions characterized by H40$\alpha$ emission. We find that 68$\%$ (116) of the SiO clumps are associated with strong outflows. The median velocity dispersion of the SiO line for outflow sources and non-outflow sources is 1.91 km s$^{-1}$ and 0.99 km s$^{-1}$, respectively. These results indicate that outflow activities could be connected to strongly shocked gas. The velocity dispersion and [SiO]/[H$^{13}$CO$^+$] intensity ratio do not show any correlation with the dust temperature and particle number density of clumps. We find a positive correlation between the SiO line luminosity and the bolometric luminosity, implying stronger shock activities are associated with more luminous proto-clusters. The SiO clumps in associations with H$_\rm{II}$ regions were found to show a steeper feature in $L_\rm{sio}$/$L_\rm{bol}$. The SiO line luminosity and the fraction of shocked gas have no apparent evidence of correlation with the evolutionary stages traced by luminosity to mass ratio ($L_\rm{bol}/M$)., Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures

I och med ökad takt av klimatförändringar, global fattigdom och stigande havsnivåer har intresset och vikten av att investera hållbart ökat markant den senaste tiden, både för de stora och små investerarna. Den snabba tillväxten av hållbara investeringar har lett till problem som falsk marknadsföring, greenwashing, olika typer av miljö- och ESG-hets samt uppenbarat en avsaknad av standardiserade regelverk för sådana typer av investeringar. Detta är ett problem som privata investerare, stora investerare och andra investeringsorganisationer och institut uppmärksammar världen över. Den tidigare forskning tyder på att, trots att det finns verktyg som främjar hållbara bolag och kriterier för att sålla bort ohållbara bolag, verktygen varierar i kvalitet och omfattning. Det är därför svårt att säkerställa att hållbara investeringarna är genomgående hållbara. Forskningen tyder även på att Impact Investing aktörerna är för outforskade och att det krävs forskning som kartlägger hur aktörerna arbetar idag med kriterier och processen, och om de stämmer överens med definitioner av begreppet som tydligt avskiljer dem från andra hållbara investeringar såsom ESG-fonder. Syftet med studien var att undersöka investeringsprocessen och hållbarhetskriterierna som Impact investerare samt ESG-fondförvaltare implementerar för deras investeringar. Detta undersöktes genom intervjuer med aktörer från både investeringsgrupperna på den svenska marknaden. Detta för att kunna klargöra hur Impact Investing utvecklar hållbara investeringar. Det vi kan konstatera är att de till stor del använder likande processer men på olika sätt och med olika reglering. Impact investerarna lämnar inget utrymme för negativ hållbarhetspåverkan och vidtar resursintensiva processer för att säkerställa mätbarheten och den positiva påverkan på hållbarhet för varje investeringarna. Studiens resultat visar på att Impact investerarnas processer och kriterier är klart mer omfattande, och ställer högre krav på mätbarhet samt påvisad hållbarhetspåverkan, än ESG-fondförvaltarnas processer och kriterier. Däremot saknar Impact Investing i dagsläget mycket av den övergripande regleringen och möjliggörande system för att kunna styra om det stora kapitalet inom finansvärlden. Det finns ett behov av ytterligare reglering samt systemutveckling för Impact Investings fortsatta tillväxt och legitimitet som en investeringsmetod som kan redovisa mätbar positiv påverkan på hållbarhet. Resultaten visar på att det finns ett behov av båda investeringsformer, och att de uppfyller olika funktion, därmed är det även viktigt att tydligt urskilja investeringsformerna för att minska tidigare nämnda greenwashing, något som vi gjort i denna studie. Bland annat visar studiens resultat på att ESG-fonder är mer lättillgängliga för privatinvesterare än Impact Investing, åtminstone för majoriteten av de investerare denna studie undersökt. Men även att ESG-fonderna i denna studie fungerar mer som en traditionell fond som följer vissa hållbarhetskriterier, medan Impact investerarna i denna studie är mer nischad och riktar sig till en specifik typ av bolag som kan generera mätbar positiv påverkan på prioriterade samhällsproblem. Slutligen kan vi konstatera att studiens resultat tyder på att de Impact investerare som undersökts arbetar med Impact Investing på ett sätt som tydligt utvecklar hållbara investeringar mot att likna finansiell redovisning. Investeringar utifrån Impact Investing börjar likna finansiell redovisning i att de blir alltmer mätbara, och avkastning vad gäller hållbarhet mäts även i större utsträckning. Denna utveckling sker genom processer som enskilda aktörer antar, men även regleringar och ramverk som olika organisationer ämnar införa som standard.

Streaming instability is hypothesized to be triggered at particular protoplanetary disk locations where the volume density of the solid particles is enriched comparable to that of the gas. A ring of planetesimals thus forms when this condition is fulfilled locally. These planetesimals collide with each other and accrete inward drifting pebbles from the outer disk to further increase masses. We investigate the growth of the planetesimals that form in a ring-belt at various disk radii. Their initial mass distributions are calculated based on the formula summarized from the streaming instability simulations. We simulate the subsequent dynamical evolution of the planetesimals with a protoplanetary disk model based either on the minimum mass solar nebula (MMSN) or on the Toomre stability criterion. For the MMSN model, both pebble accretion and planetesimal accretion are efficient at a close-in orbit of $0.3$ AU, resulting in the emergence of several super-Earth mass planets after $1$ Myr. For comparison, only the most massive planetesimals undergo substantial mass growth when they are born at $r{=}3$ AU, while the planetesimals at $r{=}30$ AU experience little or no growth. On the other hand, in the denser Toomre disk, the most massive forming planets can reach Earth mass at $t{=}1$ Myr and reach a mass between that of Neptune and that of Saturn within $3$ Myr at $30$ AU and $100$ AU. Both the pebble and planetesimal accretion rate decrease with disk radial distance. Nevertheless, planetesimal accretion is less pronounced than pebble accretion at more distant disk regions. In vitro methods have been standardized and tested to correctly simulate the rumen environment and fermentation process. A few studies have verified that the feed degradability achieved as a result of stirring the samples is higher when the samples are incubated under continuous stirring than when they are only stirred twice daily. The objective of this study has been to verify the effect of the speed of stirring on feed degradability during In vitro incubation. For this purpose, the apparent and true dry matter degradability (ADMD and TDMD) of grass hay, pelleted alfalfa, corn silage, barley meal, straw, and a total mixed ration (TMR) were measured after 48 h of incubation in jars under different rotation speeds. The same types of feed were placed in the four jars of each instrument, and the rotation system of the machine was modified to ensure the simultaneous rotation of a pair of original jars (which sometimes stopped and/or rotated slowly and irregularly) together with a pair of modified jars under regular and continuous rotation. A rev counter data logger was mounted onto the jars, and the rotation speeds of the original and modified jars were measured and compared under different conditions (empty jars, jars with liquid, jars with rumen fluid, and sample bags). The modifications to the instruments stabilized the rotation of the jars, thereby making the stirring more regular during incubation. The degradability was partly influenced by the regular stirring, albeit with just one instrument, and for grass hay, barley meal, corn silage, and TMR. In short, it has been found that the regular stirring of sample bags is not essential to obtain reliable degradability measurement during incubation, although it is better to maintain a constant rotation to ensure a regular and standardized In vitro incubation process and therefore to allow reproducibility and comparisons of the results on feed degradability.

Globular clusters are some of the oldest bound stellar structures observed in the Universe. They are ubiquitous in large galaxies and are believed to trace intense star formation events and the hierarchical build-up of structure. Observations of globular clusters in the Milky Way, and a wide variety of other galaxies, have found evidence for a `metallicity floor', whereby no globular clusters are found with chemical (`metal') abundances below approximately 0.3 to 0.4 per cent of that of the Sun. The existence of this metallicity floor may reflect a minimum mass and a maximum redshift for surviving globular clusters to form, both critical components for understanding the build-up of mass in the universe. Here we report measurements from the Southern Stellar Streams Spectroscopic Survey of the spatially thin, dynamically cold Phoenix stellar stream in the halo of the Milky Way. The properties of the Phoenix stream are consistent with it being the tidally disrupted remains of a globular cluster. However, its metal abundance ([Fe/H] = -2.7) is substantially below that of the empirical metallicity floor. The Phoenix stream thus represents the debris of the most metal-poor globular cluster discovered so far, and its progenitor is distinct from the present-day globular cluster population in the local Universe. Antimicrobial stewardship guidelines (ASGs) represent an important tool to help veterinarians optimize their antimicrobial use with the objective of decreasing antimicrobial resistance. The aim of this study was to map and qualitatively assess the ASGs for antimicrobial use in cats and dogs in Europe. Country representatives of the European Network for Optimization of Veterinary Antimicrobial Treatment (ENOVAT) were asked to identify ASGs published in their countries. All collated ASGs updated since January 2010 containing recommendations on antimicrobial therapy for at least three conditions affecting different organ systems in cats and dogs underwent detailed review including AGREE II analysis. Out of forty countries investigated, fifteen ASGs from eleven countries met the inclusion criteria. Several critical principles of antimicrobial use were identified, providing a framework that should assist development of stewardship guidance. The AGREE II analysis highlighted several methodological limitations of the currently available ASGs. This study sheds light on the lack of national ASGs for dogs and cats in multiple European countries and should encourage national bodies to prioritize guideline development in small animals. A greater awareness of the need to use a structured approach to guideline development could improve the quality of ASGs in the future. Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are soluble carbohydrates and represent the 3rd most abundant molecular fraction in human milk (HM). The biofunction potential of HMOs is broad and includes prebiotic, anti-infective and anti-inflammatory effects. A better characterisation of individual HMO-variations in early life could be key to further unravel their impact on the healthy development of breast fed infants. In the course of this thesis, novel analytical methods were successfully developed and deployed to quantify relevant HMO-structures present in HM. By application of these cutting edge (primarily) mass spectrometry (MS) based approaches, even formerly difficult to distinguish HMO-isomers (e.g. 2’-FL, 3-FL, 3’-SL, 6’-SL, LNT, LNnT, LNFP I, II,III and V) could be accurately analysed. HMO-profiles were yielded for more than 1000 European HM specimens collected at 6 weeks, 6month and 12 month after birth. As a result, unexpected insights about early life HMO-variations were unveiled. For example, a surprising increase or decrease of specific trioses (3’-SL, 3-FL, and DFL versus 6’-SL and 2’-FL) over the investigated course of lactation was observed. Also, the presence of the galactosyllactoses 3’-GL and 6’GL could be confirmed in > 75 % of investigated HM samples. Most intriguingly, further evidence for two new HM (sub) groups with different phenotypes of alpha 1,2 fucosylated HMOs could be confirmed. Future research is warranted to explore the biological significance of these new findings. Nevertheless, they may be useful to inspire new generations of formulations for early life nutrition with HMO profiles much closer to their natural blueprint, human milk.

Context. Intermediate- to high-mass stars are the least numerous types of stars and they are less well understood than their more numerous low-mass counterparts in terms of their internal physical processes. Modelling the photometric variability of a large sample of main-sequence intermediate- to high-mass stars in eclipsing binary systems will help to improve the models for such stars. Aims. Our goal is to compose a homogeneously compiled sample of main-sequence intermediate- to high-mass OBA-type dwarfs in eclipsing binary systems from TESS photometry. We search for binaries with and without pulsations and determine their approximate ephemerides. Methods. Our selection starts from a catalogue of dwarfs with colours corresponding to those of OBA-type dwarfs in the TESS Input Catalog. We develop a new automated method aimed at detecting eclipsing binaries in the presence of strong pulsational and/or rotational signal relative to the eclipse depths and apply it to publicly available 30-min cadence TESS light curves. Results. Using targets with TESS magnitudes below 15 and cuts in the 2MASS magnitude bands of $J - H < 0.045$ and $J - K < 0.06$ as most stringent criteria, we arrive at a total of 189 981 intermediate- to high-mass candidates, 91193 of which have light curves from at least one of two data reduction pipelines. The eclipsing binary detection and subsequent manual check for false positives resulted in 3155 unique OBA-type eclipsing binary candidates. Conclusions. Our sample of eclipsing binary stars in the intermediate- to high-mass regime allows for future binary (and asteroseismic) modelling with the aim to better understand the internal physical processes in this hot part of the main sequence., 12 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables, 3 appendices (8 additional figures, 1 additional table). We present spectroscopic confirmation of three new two-image gravitationally lensed quasars, compiled from existing strong lens and X-ray catalogs. Images of HSC J091843.27$-$022007.5 show a red galaxy with two blue point sources at either side, separated by 2.26 arcsec. This system has a source and a lens redshifts $z_s=0.804$ and $z_{\ell}=0.459$, respectively, as obtained by our follow-up spectroscopic data. CXCO J100201.50$+$020330.0 shows two point sources separated by 0.85 arcsec on either side of an early-type galaxy. The follow-up spectroscopic data confirm the fainter quasar has the same redshift with the brighter quasar from the SDSS fiber spectrum at $z_s=2.016$. The deflecting foreground galaxy is a typical early-type galaxy at a redshift of $z_{\ell}=0.439$. SDSS J135944.21$+$012809.8 has two point sources with quasar spectra at the same redshift $z_s=1.096$, separated by 1.05 arcsec, and fits to the HSC images confirm the presence of a galaxy between these. These discoveries demonstrate the power of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP)'s deep imaging and wide sky coverage. Combined with existing X-ray source catalogues and follow-up spectroscopy, the HSC-SSP provides us unique opportunities to find multiple-image quasars lensed by a foreground galaxy., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS, 7 pages, 3 figures (add credit to Claude Cornen)

(Aims) In this work, we predict the far-infrared polarisation signal emitted by non-spherical dust grains in nearby galaxies. We determine the angular resolution and sensitivity required to study the magnetic field configuration in these galaxies. (Methods) We post-process a set of Milky Way like galaxies from the Auriga project, assuming a dust mix consisting of spheroidal dust grains that are partially aligned with the model magnetic field. We constrain our dust model using Planck 353 GHz observations of the Milky Way. This model is then extrapolated to shorter wavelengths that cover the peak of interstellar dust emission and to observations of arbitrarily oriented nearby Milky Way like galaxies. (Results) Assuming an intrinsic linear polarisation fraction that does not vary significantly with wavelength for wavelengths longer than 50 micron, we predict a linear polarisation fraction with a maximum of $10-15\%$ and a median value of $\approx{}7\%$ for face-on galaxies and $\approx{}3\%$ for edge-on galaxies. The polarisation fraction anti-correlates with the line of sight density and with the angular dispersion function which expresses the large scale order of the magnetic field perpendicular to the line of sight. The maximum linear polarisation fraction agrees well with the intrinsic properties of the dust model. The true magnetic field orientation can be traced along low density lines of sight when it is coherent along the line of sight. These results also hold for nearby galaxies, where a coherent magnetic field structure is recovered over a range of different broad bands. (Conclusions) Polarised emission from non-spherical dust grains accurately traces the large scale structure of the galactic magnetic field in Milky Way like galaxies, with expected maximum linear polarisation fractions of $10-15\%$. The copper(II) complexes of a peptide fragment of the R3 domain of tau protein (tau(326-333) Ac-GNIHHKPG-NH2) and its mutants (Ac-GNGHHKPG-NH2, Ac-GNIHHKAG-NH2, Ac-GNGAHKPG-NH2 and Ac-GNGHAKPG-NH2) have been studied by potentiometric and spectroscopic (UV-Vis, CD) methods. ESR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry were also used to prove the coordination mode of the mononuclear complexes and the formation of dinuclear species, respectively. It has been demonstrated that the (326-333) fragment of tau protein is a versatile and effective ligand for copper(II) coordination. The versatility of copper(II) binding is related to the presence of two adjacent histidyl residues in the sequence, which results in the coexistence of mononuclear, bis(ligand) and dinuclear complexes at different metal to ligand ratios. The 1:1 mononuclear complexes are, however, the dominant species with all peptides and the imidazole-N and one to three deprotonated amide nitrogen atoms towards the N-terminal side of the histidyl residue have been suggested as metal binding sites. This binding mode allows the formation of coordination isomers because any of the two histidine moieties can be the primary anchoring site. It is evident from the CD spectroscopic measurements that the isomers are present in almost equal concentration. The copper(II) binding affinity of the native fragment of tau protein is comparable to that of a similar 2-histidine fragment of amyloid-β mutant, Ac-SGAEGHHQK-NH2 but the comparison with an independent histidyl residue (H32) from the N-terminal region of the protein reveals the predominance of H32 over the histidines in the R3 domain.

Summary Photosynthetic eukaryotes require the proper assembly of photosystem II (PSII) in order to strip electrons from water and fuel carbon fixation reactions. In Arabidopsis thaliana, one of the PSII subunits (CP43/PsbC) was suggested to be assembled into the PSII complex via its interaction with an auxiliary protein called Low PSII Accumulation 2 (LPA2). However, the original articles describing the role of LPA2 in PSII assembly have been retracted. To investigate the function of LPA2 in the model organism for green algae, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, we generated knockout lpa2 mutants by using the CRISPR‐Cas9 target‐specific genome editing system. Biochemical analyses revealed the thylakoidal localization of LPA2 protein in the wild type (WT), whereas lpa2 mutants were characterized by a drastic reduction in the levels of D1, D2, CP47 and CP43 proteins. Consequently, reduced PSII supercomplex accumulation, chlorophyll content per cell, PSII quantum yield and photosynthetic oxygen evolution were measured in the lpa2 mutants, leading to the almost complete impairment of photoautotrophic growth. Pulse‐chase experiments demonstrated that the absence of LPA2 protein caused reduced PSII assembly and reduced PSII turnover. Taken together, our data indicate that, in C. reinhardtii, LPA2 is required for PSII assembly and proper function., Significance Statement LPA2 is a nuclear‐encoded protein that is suggested to be involved in PSII assembly in vascular plants. Here, using CRISPSRS/CAS9 mutagenesis, we identified and investigated an LPA2 homolog in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. lpa2 mutants were characterized by a strong reduction in the accumulation of photosystem II core subunits, reduced photosystem II activity, increased photosensitivity and impairment in photoautotrophic growth, revealing the critical role of LPA2 in the assembly of photosystem II supercomplexes in green algae.

Tidal dwarf galaxies (TDGs) are gravitationally bound condensations of gas and stars that formed during galaxy interactions. Here we present multi-configuration ALMA observations of J1023+1952, a TDG in the interacting system Arp 94, where we resolved CO(2–1) emission down to giant molecular clouds (GMCs) at 0.6400 ∼ 45 pc resolution. We find a remarkably high fraction of extended molecular emission (∼80−90%), which is filtered out by the interferometer and likely traces diffuse gas. We detect 111 GMCs that give a similar mass spectrum as those in the Milky Way and other nearby galaxies (a truncated power law with a slope of −1.76±0.13). We also study Larson’s laws over the available dynamic range of GMC properties (∼2 dex in mass and ∼1 dex in size): GMCs follow the sizemass relation of the Milky Way, but their velocity dispersion is higher such that the size-linewidth and virial relations appear superlinear, deviating from the canonical values. The global molecular-to-atomic gas ratio is very high (∼1) while the CO(2–1)/CO(1–0) ratio is quite low (∼0.5), and both quantities vary from north to south. Star formation predominantly takes place in the south of the TDG, where we observe projected offsets between GMCs and young stellar clusters ranging from ∼50 pc to ∼200 pc; the largest offsets correspond to the oldest knots, as seen in other galaxies. In the quiescent north, we find more molecular clouds and a higher molecular-to-atomic gas ratio (∼1.5); atomic and diffuse molecular gas also have a higher velocity dispersion there. Rhizoma Paris is a popular Chinese medicine in clinics. It contains four main saponins which are its major bioactive compounds. These saponins are Paris saponin I, II, VI and VII (PSI, PSII, PSVI and PSVII, respectively). Up to now, the research using HUVEC cells to evaluate the anti-angiogenic activity of four saponins is blank. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anti-angiogenic properties (also known as angiotoxicity) of the four saponins in Rhizoma Paris on vascular endothelial cells-HUVEC cells, and to investigate the underlying mechanism, which has not been studied before. In this study, MTT assay, Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assay, wound healing experiments, transwell cell invasion assay, tubule formation experiment, DAPI staining, AV-PI double staining, and cell cycle analysis were used to determine the effects of Paris saponins. The results showed that, with increases in concentrations of PSI, PSII, PSVI and PSVII, the viability of HUVEC cells decreased significantly. In addition, four saponins dose-dependent enhanced LDH release and inhibited HUVEC cell migration, invasion, and angiogenesis. In terms of mechanism, PSI significantly inhibited protein expression in multiple signaling pathways. In particular, with the VEGF2 as the target, it activate the downstream PI3K / AKT / mTOR, SRC / eNOS, P38, PLCγ / ERK / MERK and JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathways. In conclusion, PSI, PSII, PSVI and PSVII can inhibit endothelial cell proliferation, migration and invasion, block endothelial cell cycle, induce endothelial cell apoptosis, act on protein expression in several anti-angiogenic signaling pathways, and finally inhibit angiogenesis in vitro. This study provides further data support for the clinical application of Paris saponins as antiangiogenic drugs.

The invariant chain (Ii, also known as CD74) is a multifunctional regulator of adaptive immune responses and is responsible for sorting major histocompatibility complex class I and class II (MHCI and MHCII, respectively) molecules, as well as other Ii-associated molecules, to a specific endosomal pathway. When Ii is expressed, endosomal maturation and proteolytic degradation of proteins are delayed and, in non-antigen presenting cells, the endosomal size increases, but the molecular mechanisms underlying this are not known. We identified that a SNARE, Vti1b, is essential for regulating these Ii-induced effects. Vti1b binds to Ii and is localized at the contact sites of fusing Ii-positive endosomes. Furthermore, truncated Ii lacking the cytoplasmic tail, which is not internalized from the plasma membrane, relocates Vti1b to the plasma membrane. Knockout of Ii in an antigen-presenting cell line was found to speed up endosomal maturation, whereas silencing of Vti1b inhibits the Ii-induced maturation delay. Our results suggest that Ii, by interacting with the SNARE Vti1b in antigen-presenting cells, directs specific Ii-associated SNARE-mediated fusion in the early part of the endosomal pathway that leads to a slower endosomal maturation for efficient antigen processing and MHC antigen loading.

We report the largest sample of candidate strong gravitational lenses belonging to the Survey of Gravitationally-lensed Objects in HSC Imaging for group-to-cluster scale (SuGOHI-c) systems. These candidates are compiled from the S18A data release of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) Survey. We present half-light sizes measured from Ha emission tracing star formation in 281 star-forming galaxies from the KMOS3D survey at 0.7 less than or similar to z less than or similar to 2.7. Sizes are derived by fitting 2D exponential disk models, with bootstrap errors averaging 20%. H alpha sizes are a median (mean) of 1.19 (1.26) times larger than those of the stellar continuum-which, due to radial dust gradients, places an upper limit on the growth in stellar size via star formation-with just similar to 43% intrinsic scatter. At fixed continuum size the H alpha size shows no residual trend with stellar mass, star formation rate, redshift, or morphology. The only significant residual trend is with the excess obscuration of H alpha by dust, at fixed continuum obscuration. The scatter in continuum size at fixed stellar mass is likely driven by the scatter in halo spin parameters. The stability of the ratio of H alpha size to continuum size demonstrates a high degree of stability in halo spin and in the transfer of angular momentum to the disk over a wide range of physical conditions and cosmic time. This may require local regulation by feedback processes. The implication of our results, as we demonstrate using a toy model, is that our upper limit on star-formation-driven growth is sufficient only to evolve star-forming galaxies approximately along the observed size-mass relation, consistent with the size growth of galaxies at constant cumulative comoving number density. To explain the observed evolution of the size-mass relation of star-forming disk galaxies, other processes, such as the preferential quenching of compact galaxies or galaxy mergers, may be required.

The presence of complex organic molecules (COMs) in the interstellar medium (ISM) is of great interest since it may link to the origin and prevalence of life in the universe. Aiming to investigate the occurrence of COMs and their possible origins, we conducted a chemical census toward a sample of protostellar cores as part of the ALMA Survey of Orion Planck Galactic Cold Clumps (ALMASOP) project. We report the detection of 11 hot corino sources, which exhibit compact emissions from warm and abundant COMs, among 56 Class 0/I protostellar cores. All the hot corino sources discovered are likely Class 0 and their sizes of the warm region ($>$ 100 K) are comparable to 100 au. The luminosity of the hot corino sources exhibits positive correlations with the total number of methanol and the extent of its emissions. Such correlations are consistent with the thermal desorption picture for the presence of hot corino and suggest that the lower luminosity (Class 0) sources likely have a smaller region with COMs emissions. With the same sample selection method and detection criteria being applied, the detection rates of the warm methanol in the Orion cloud (15/37) and the Perseus cloud (28/50) are statistically similar when the cloud distances and the limited sample size are considered. Background & Objective: The presence of classes I, II and III Integrons in multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, has created new concerns in clinics. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of class I, II and III Integron in clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates. Materials & Methods: In the cross-sectional study, 60 isolates of P. aeruginosa were obtained from the microbial-Laboratory of Rasool Akram Hospital in Tehran. Antibiotic susceptibility test was performed by the agar diffusion method based on CLSI guidelines on the Mueller Hinton agar medium. The genomic DNA was extracted using DNA extraction kit and M-PCR was performed for amplification of intI, intII and intIII genes. Results: The highest resistance rate was in the strains that harbored integron, so that 96.6% of strains were resistant to amoxicillin. The results showed that all 60 strains had resistance (100%) to amikacin. The highest frequency was related to intI (40%) and the lowest frequency was related to intIII genes (16.6%). Conclusion: Considering the high prevalence of class I Integron in all Pseudomonas aeruginosa-resistant isolates and its relation with different drug resistance patterns, the right solution to infection control and treatment in hospitals is essential to prevent further spread of it. &nbsp

Background: Depression causes poor academic performance, substance abuse, antisocial behavior, school avoidance, and running away from home in adolescents. Due to the high prevalence of depression in adolescents, reliability, and validity of this questionnaire in this age group is of special importance. Symptoms of depression in children and adolescents are different from their indications in adults. Objectives: The current study aimed at assessing reliability and validity of the Beck depression inventory- second edition (BDI- II) in high school students in Shiraz, Iran. Methods: A total of 1150 high school students from Shiraz were selected to assess the validity and a sum of 128 students from the same city were tested to measure the reliability of the study. Concurrent validity and factor analysis were used to assess validity. Concurrent validity was assessed using Beck anxiety inventory and depression anxiety stress scale (DASS)-21. Factor analysis was computed using varimax rotation method. To assess reliability, test-retest and Cronbach’s alpha were adopted. Results: Correlation coefficients for the concurrent validity of this inventory with Beck anxiety inventory and DASS-21 were 0.45 and 0.55, respectively. The results of factor analysis with varimax rotation method showed 4 factors that predicted 43.69% of the total variance of the test. The reliability and correlation coefficients 0.55 and 0.83 were obtained from test-retest and Cronbach’s alpha methods, respectively. Conclusions: Based on the results of the current study, researchers can use BDI- II in psychological research and clinical use for high school students in Shiraz.

The traditional view on the cerebellum is that it controls motor behavior. Although recent work has revealed that the cerebellum supports also nonmotor functions such as cognition and affect, only during the last 5 years it has become evident that the cerebellum also plays an important social role. This role is evident in social cognition based on interpreting goal-directed actions through the movements of individuals (social "mirroring") which is very close to its original role in motor learning, as well as in social understanding of other individuals' mental state, such as their intentions, beliefs, past behaviors, future aspirations, and personality traits (social "mentalizing"). Most of this mentalizing role is supported by the posterior cerebellum (e.g., Crus I and II). The most dominant hypothesis is that the cerebellum assists in learning and understanding social action sequences, and so facilitates social cognition by supporting optimal predictions about imminent or future social interaction and cooperation. This consensus paper brings together experts from different fields to discuss recent efforts in understanding the role of the cerebellum in social cognition, and the understanding of social behaviors and mental states by others, its effect on clinical impairments such as cerebellar ataxia and autism spectrum disorder, and how the cerebellum can become a potential target for noninvasive brain stimulation as a therapeutic intervention. We report on the most recent empirical findings and techniques for understanding and manipulating cerebellar circuits in humans. Cerebellar circuitry appears now as a key structure to elucidate social interactions. Отсутствие данных по распространенности и заболеваемости спинально – мышечной атрофии в РФ не позволяет рационально планировать бюджет поручения №ПР – 1395 по вопросу разработки механизма целевого использования финансирования расходов, связанных с оказанием медицинской помощи детям за счет средств, поступающих в бюджеты бюджетной системы Российской Федерации в связи с повышением ставки налога на доходы физических лиц. Спинально-мышечная атрофия (СМА), являясь орфанным заболеванием, потенциально может рассчитывать на включение в программу финансирования в связи с его социальной значимостью. В отсутствии реального клинического регистра и сведений о заболевших пациентах в формах государственной статистики, проведение обсервационного эпидемиологического исследования может стать началом в построения организационной модели для оказания медицинской помощи пациентам СМА. Целью данной работы было проведение исследования по изучению общей заболеваемости (аналога распространённости) пациентов с СМА. Основные задачи исследования – определить общую (интервальную) заболеваемость СМА 2019 года, наблюдающихся в течение 2019 года на 100 000 населения, построить прогноз количества пациентов СМА I-III типом по федеральным округам на основе полученных расчётов общей заболеваемости и провести анализ пациентов каждого типа по возрасту и полу, по двигательной активности, по потребности в паллиативных медицинских вмешательствах, включая нутритивную и респираторную поддержку. Материалы и методы. В 25 регионах РФ было проведено поперечное интервальное исследование с двумя этапами валидизации данных, на основании которого был проведен анализ и расчет заболеваемости СМА в РФ на 2019 год. Для статистической обработки материала рассчитывали экстенсивные и интенсивные показатели, их 95% доверительные интервалы (95%ДИ). Для определения потребности в терапии критическое значение имеет диагностика I, II, III типов СМА. Это обусловлено тем, что 0 тип СМА терапии не подлежит, а пациенты с IV типом СМА ведут обычный образ жизни, и в терапии, как правило, не нуждаются. В связи с этим для определения общей заболеваемости I, II, III типом СМА с целью определения низкого и оптимального прогноза общей заболеваемости I, II, III типами СМА было включено 668 пациентов с I, II, III типами СМА, для которых была определена структура типов СМА, ставшая основанием для среднего прогноза общей заболеваемости СМА. Результаты. Получена структура в которой (с исключением IV типа): I тип составил 21,0% [95%ДИ 18,7-23,44]; p=0,9; II тип составил 48,0% [95%ДИ 45,1-50,9]; p=0,7; III тип составил 31,0% [95%ДИ 28,4-33,7]; p=0,9. Учитывая это, данную структуру мы приняли как валидизированную, и использовали для среднего (оптимального) прогноза заболеваемости I, II, III типами СМА. Выводы. Ожидаемая общая заболеваемость СМА в РФ составляет от 0,82 до 1,21 на 100 000 населения, в том числе I типом 0,14 – 0,27; II типом 0,38-0,57, III типом 0,22-0,43. В структуре СМА I тип составляет 20,5%, II тип – 49,2%, III тип – 30,3%.

Background/aims: The increasing cost of the drug development process has seen interest in the use of adaptive trial designs grow substantially. Accordingly, much research has been conducted to identify barriers to increasing the use of adaptive designs in practice. Several articles have argued that the availability of user-friendly software will be an important step in making adaptive designs easier to implement. Therefore, we present a review of the current state of software availability for adaptive trial design. Methods: We review articles from 31 journals published in 2013–2017 that relate to methodology for adaptive trials to assess how often code and software for implementing novel adaptive designs is made available at the time of publication. We contrast our findings against these journals’ policies on code distribution. We also search popular code repositories, such as Comprehensive R Archive Network and GitHub, to identify further existing user-contributed software for adaptive designs. From this, we are able to direct interested parties toward solutions for their problem of interest. Results: Only 30% of included articles made their code available in some form. In many instances, articles published in journals that had mandatory requirements on code provision still did not make code available. There are several areas in which available software is currently limited or saturated. In particular, many packages are available to address group sequential design, but comparatively little code is present in the public domain to determine biomarker-guided adaptive designs. Conclusions: There is much room for improvement in the provision of software alongside adaptive design publications. In addition, while progress has been made, well-established software for various types of trial adaptation remains sparsely available.

Previous studies have related surface temperature maps, obtained with the Doppler imaging (DI) technique, of LQ Hya with long-term photometry. We compare surface magnetic field maps, obtained with the Zeeman Doppler imaging (ZDI) technique, with contemporaneous photometry, with the aim of quantifying the star's magnetic cycle characteristics. We inverted Stokes IV spectropolarimetry into magnetic field and surface brightness maps using a tomographic inversion code that models high signal-to-noise ratio mean line profiles produced by the least squares deconvolution (LSD) technique. The magnetic field and surface brightness maps reveal similar patterns to previous DI and ZDI studies: non-axisymmetric polar magnetic field structure, void of fields at mid-latitudes, and a complex structure in the equatorial regions. There is a weak but clear tendency of the polar structures to be linked with strong radial field and the equatorial ones with the azimuthal. We find a polarity reversal in the radial field between 2016 and 2017 coincident with an activity minimum seen in the long-term photometry. The inverted field strengths cannot easily be related with the observed spottedness, but we find that they are partially connected with the retrieved field complexity. Comparing to global magnetoconvection models for rapidly rotating young Suns, this field topology and dominance of the poloidal field component could be explained by a turbulent dynamo, where differential rotation does not play a major role (so called alpha^2 Omega or alpha^2 dynamos), and axi- and non-axisymmetric modes are excited simultaneously. The complex equatorial magnetic field structure could arise from the twisted (helical) wreaths often seen in these simulations, while the polar feature would be connected to the mostly poloidal non-axisymmetric component having a smooth spatial structure., 13 pages, 8 figures, 7 tables

The synthesis of a novel series of 3-functionalised benzenesulfonamides incorporating phenyl-1,2,3-triazole with an amide linker was achieved by using the “click-tail” approach. The new compounds, including the intermediates, were assayed as inhibitors of human carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC 4.2.1.1) isoforms hCA I and II (cytosolic isoforms) and also for hCA IV and IX (transmembrane isoforms) taking acetazolamide as standard drug. Most of these compounds exhibited excellent activity against all these isoforms. hCA I was inhibited with Kis in the range of 50.8–966.8 nM, while the glaucoma associated hCA II was inhibited with Kis in the range of 6.5–760.0 nM. Isoform hCA IV was inhibited with Kis in the range of 65.3–957.5 nM, whereas the tumor associated hypoxia induced hCA IX was inhibited with Kis in the range of 30.8–815.9 nM. The structure activity relationship study for the 3-functionalised-1-phenyl-1,2,3-triazole sulfamoylbenzamides against these isoforms was also inferred from the results.

The discovery of star-to-star abundance variations (a.k.a. multiple populations - MPs) within globular clusters (GCs), which are generally not found in the field or in lower mass open clusters, has led to a search for the unique property of GCs that allow them to host this phenomenon. Recent studies have shown that MPs are not limited to the ancient GCs but are also found in massive clusters with ages down to (at least) 2 Gyr. This finding is important for understanding the physics of the MP phenomenon, as these young clusters can provide much stronger constraints (e.g. on potential age spreads within the clusters) than older ones. However, a direct comparison between ancient GCs and intermediate clusters has not yet been possible due to the different filters adopted in their studies. Here we present new HST UV photometry of the 7.5 Gyr, massive SMC cluster, Lindsay 1, in order to compare its pseudo colour-colour diagram to that of Galactic GCs. We find that they are almost identical and conclude that the MPs phenomenon is the same, regardless of cluster age and host galaxy., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. Karbonik anhidrazlar (EC 4.2.1.1, CA' lar) kataliz için çok önemli olan bir Zn iyonu içeren metaloenzimlerdir. CA' lar birçok fizyolojik ve patolojik süreçte önemli rol oynar. CO2 ve H2O' nun HCO3− ve H+' ye dönüşümü de dahil olmak üzere çeşitli reaksiyonları katalize eder. Karbonik anhidrazların (CA' lar) inhibitörleri ise glokom, epilepsi, gastroduodenal ülserler, asit-baz dengesizlikleri ve nörolojik bozukluklar gibi birçok hastalığın tedavisinde ve önlenmesinde hayati öneme sahiptir. Bu çalışmada grafen (G), garfen oksit (GO) ve grafen oksit türevli nanopartiküllerin (1p, 2p ve 3p) IC50 değerleri hesaplandı ve G ve GO' nun kinetik incelemeleri, referans CA inhibitörlerine kıyasla farklı sonuçlar gösterdi. İncelenen bu nanopartiküller, tıbbi uygulamalarda faydalı olabilecek yeni CA inhibitörlerinin hazırlanmasında kullanılabilecek teşvik edici öncü moleküllerdir. Graphene (G) has given hope in many potential applications because of remarkable thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties since its discovery in 2004. Among graphitic materials graphene oxide (GO) mostly interests a great deal of attention because of their unusual features and easy-processabilities. GO has many oxygen-containing functional groups including hydroxyl, epoxide, carbonyl and carboxyl groups. Carbonic anhydrases (EC 4.2.1.1, CAs) are a family of metalloenzymes which contains a Zn ion, crucial for catalysis. CAs plays a pivotal role in a number of physiological and pathological processes. They catalyze a variety of reactions including the conversion of CO2 and H2O to HCO3− and H+. Inhibitors of the carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are vital in treatment and prevention of many of diseases such as glaucoma, epilepsy, gastroduodenal ulcers, acid-base disequilibria and neurological disorders. IC50 values of graphen (G), garphen oxide (GO) and graphene oxide derived nanoparticles (1p, 2p and 3p) were calculated and kinetic investigations of G and GO showed different results compared to reference CA inhibitors. These nanoparticles investigated are encouraging agents which may be used as lead molecules in preparation of novel CA inhibitors that might be useful in medical applications.

Meningiomas are the most common type of primary central nervous system tumors. Approximately, 80% of meningiomas are classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as grade I, and 20% of these tumors are grade II and III, considered high-grade meningiomas (HGMs). Clinical control of HGMs, as well as meningiomas that relapse after surgery, and radiation therapy is difficult, and novel therapeutic approaches are necessary. However, traditional chemotherapies, interferons, hormonal therapies, and other targeted therapies have so far failed to provide clinical benefit. During the last several years, next generation sequencing has dissected the genetic heterogeneity of meningioma and enriched our knowledge about distinct oncogenic pathways driving different subtypes of meningiomas, opening up a door to new personalized targeted therapies. Molecular classification of meningioma allows a new design of clinical trials that assign patients to corresponding targeted agents based on the tumor genetic subtypes. In this review, we will shed light on emerging medical treatments of meningiomas with a particular focus on the new targets identified with genomic sequencing that have led to clinical trials testing novel compounds. Moreover, we present recent development of patient-derived preclinical models that provide platforms for assessing targeted therapies as well as strategies with novel mechanism of action such as oncolytic viruses.

Background and Aims: Interest in growth hormone (GH) is inextricably linked to the need for in depth understanding of the somatomedins (insulin-like growth factors) which are polypeptides structurally similar to insulin and with broad physiological activity. To date, the most commonly known is Insulin-Like Growth Factor I (IGF-I). Despite considerable current knowledge of IGF-I, however, its bioactivity is incompletely understood. Measurement of IGF-I is of the utmost importance in the diagnosis and treatment of, for example acromegaly and growth hormone deficiency. The development of recombinant IGF-I, has allowed its use in such cases. Clinical practice, however, shows that few young/adult patients will benefit from treatment with the rIGF-I, mecasermin, given the number of adverse effects found. This review focuses on current knowledge mainly related to IGF-I and the use of its recombinant form (rIGF-I) in clinical practice. Several functions of IGI-II have been elucidated but their clinical significance is unclear.

The number of Spanish-speaking individuals and immigrants in the United States has risen dramatically and is projected to continue to rise. The availability of appropriately translated and validated measurement instruments, such as the Beck Depression Inventory, is a priority for researchers and clinicians in the U.S. and Mexico, where the first edition of the BDI is still prominently used. The purpose of this study was to pilot a Mexican adaptation of the BDI-II and report initial psychometric characteristics. Two samples were used: students from across Mexico and community adults from Mexico City. Results indicated that the translation was easily understood by most individuals, had adequate internal consistency, and a three-factor structure (negative attitude, performance difficulties, and somatic elements) had the best fit. Implications for use with Mexican-origin Spanish speakers are discussed.El número de Hispano-hablantes en los Estados Unidos ha aumentado dramáticamente y va a seguir aumentando. El desarrollo de instrumentos de medición, como el inventario de depresión de Beck (IDB), debidamente traducido y validado, es una prioridad para los investigadores y los clínicos en los Estados Unidos. Esta es también una prioridad en México, como la primera edición del IDB es todavía prominentemente utilizada. El propósito de este estudio fue desarrollar una traducción mexicana del IDB-II e informar de las características psicométricas. Dos muestras fueron utilizados: estudiantes de todo México y adultos de la comunidad en el Distrito Federal. Los resultados indicaron que la traducción se entendió fácilmente por la mayoría de los individuos, tenía una consistencia interna adecuada, y una estructura de tres factores (actitud negativa, dificultades de rendimiento, y elementos somáticos) tuvo un mejor ajuste. Implicaciones para el uso con Hispano-hablantes de origen mexicano se discuten.

This systematic review was designed to evaluate the reporting of non-hip score outcomes following surgical management of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). MEDLINE, EMBASE and PubMed were searched and screened in duplicate for studies involving non-hip score outcomes following the surgical management of FAI. A full-text review of eligible studies was conducted and references were searched using pre-determined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Thirty-three studies involving 3198 patients were included in this review. The most common non-hip score outcomes reported included: patient satisfaction (72.7%), symptom improvement (24.7%), pain improvement (12.4%), hip range of motion (12.3%) and return to sport (6.8%). The most frequently reported standardized hip outcome scores used were the modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS) (41.2%), Non-Arthritic Hip Score (NAHS) (29.4%), Hip Outcome Score—Activities of Daily Living (HOS-ADL) (26.5%), the Western Ontario McMaster Universities Index of Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) (17.6%), the HOS Sport-Specific Subscale (SSS) (17.6%). The most commonly reported non-hip score outcomes are patient satisfaction, symptom improvement and pain improvement. Patients report high levels of satisfaction when surveyed post-operatively. A discrepancy exists between what outcomes the literature suggests should be reported and what outcomes are actually reported. Return to sport is often held as a major patient-important outcome yet it is seldom reported in studies assessing the efficacy of FAI surgery. Second, despite emerging evidence that outcome measures such as the HOS or IHOT evaluate the FAI patient population precisely, other standardized hip score outcomes (mHHS and NAHS) are still more commonly reported.

Due to that the Lithuanian and Russian press is seen by the author not just as a significant source of information, but also as a peculiar tool for structuring knowledge about Lithuania’s historical past. The article reveals that the perception of Holocaust history is changing in the Lithuanian and Russian press in recent years by rethinking of the dominant Lithuanian historical narrative and representing diverse approaches to the role of Lithuanians in collaboration with the Naziregime. The Holocaust Discourse is constructed as important experience in considering and strengthening the human rights protection discourse in Lithuania as well. The article is based on selected texts published in 2016 by online daily DELFI and printed newspapers in the Lithuanian and Russian languages (150 publications in total).

Background: This research investigated the response of vascular active factors, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and angiotensin-II (AT-II) to ovarian stimulation during 24 hours in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial study, 52 patients with PCOS and 8 control cases were stimulated with human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) on the 4th to 7th day of the patients’ natural or induced menstrual cycles. We measured VEGF and AT-II by radioimmunoassay before the injection (0 hour) and 3, 8, 12, 18 and 24 hours after the stimulation. O trabalho aborda a incidência do IPI na importação de veículos automotores por pessoa natural para uso próprio. Discutirá características do procedimento de importação, bem como o Imposto de Importação e, assim, analisará o porque da cobrança destes dois tributos na compra de veículos automotores do exterior. Os conceitos bis in idem e bitributação serão debatidos. Hipóteses de incidência do IPI serão estudadas, demonstrando como o importador pode ser enquadrado como sujeito passivo na tributação do IPI na importação, juntamente comparado nos princípios tributários constitucionais. Por fim, será feita reflexão crítica do recente julgado e novo posicionamento do STF.

International audience; RATIONALE: The first step in the diagnosis of oligosaccharidoses is to evidence abnormal oligosaccharides excreted in urine, usually performed by the poorly sensitive but efficient thin layer chromatography (TLC) method. Developing a tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) technique could be of great interest to replace TLC. METHODS: Abnormal underivatized oligosaccharides have been recently studied using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry, allowing the unambiguous identification of oligosaccharidoses. Based on this previous work, we developed an advantageous and efficient liquid chromatography (LC)/MS/MS method using a more common triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer for oligosaccharides analysis. RESULTS: Oligosaccharidoses (n = 97) and control (n = 240) urine samples were analysed. A specific pattern was obtained for each oligosaccharidosis using this method. In urine, it allows not only the identification of all the oligosaccharidoses previously identified by TLC (fucosidosis, alphamannosidosis, aspartylglucosaminuria, GM1 gangliosidosis, sialidosis, galactosialidosis and Schindler disease), but also extends the field of diagnosis to mucolipidosis type II, Sandhoff disease, and beta-mannosidosis. The same technique was applied to 16 amniotic fluid supernatants from oligosaccharidosis-affected foetuses (n = 16) compared with 37 unaffected. All the affected foetuses could be clearly identified: sialidosis (n = 3), galactosialidosis (n = 4), aspartylglucosaminuria (n = 1), mucolipidosis type II (n = 4) or GM1 gangliosidosis (n = 4). This technique can be applied to early prenatal diagnosis as well as to the oligosaccharidosis screening in the case of non-immune hydrops fetalis. CONCLUSIONS: The method is quick and easy to run, with an LC analysis time of 13 min per sample. The quantitative validation could not be obtained in the absence of a specific standard and of a labelled internal standard for each compound. Even if this LC/MS/MS method is only qualitative, it is very specific and much more sensitive than TLC. It allows the urinary screening of oligosaccharidoses, even mild or late-onset forms, and the screening of antenatal forms in amniotic fluid. Copyright (C) 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Resumen Proponemos pensar históricamente la coyuntura nacional e internacional en que se dio la visita del Papa a Chile bajo la dictadura y, en particular, su encuentro masivo con miembros del pueblo mapuche. Explicamos por qué fue relevante para la transición a la democracia y para la visión de la Iglesia Ca tólica respecto de 'la emergencia indígena en América Latina'. Se analiza el proceso complejo de cambios relativos a las representaciones de la Iglesia so bre el pueblo mapuche a partir del Concilio Vaticano II y las Conferencias del Episcopado Latinoamericano de Medellín (1968)y Puebla (1979). Enfocamos historiográficamente el discurso que S.S. Juan Pablo II dirigió a campesinos chilenos y mapuche, durante su visita al país en Temuco, abril de 1987. Abstract We propose to think the national and international situation which took place when the Pope visited Chile under the dictatorship historically and, in particular, its mass meeting with members of the mapuche people. We explain why it was relevant for the transition to democracy and the vision of the Catho lic Church concerning 'indigenous emergence in Latin America'. The complex process of changes concerning the representations of the Church regarding the mapuche people from the Second Vatican Council and the Conference of Latin American Bishops in Medellin (1968) and Puebla (1979) is analyzed. We focus by means of historiography the speech H.H. John Paul II delivered to Chilean and Mapuche peasants during his visit to the country in Temuco, April 1987.

Interferons are a family of proteins that are released by a variety of cells in response to infections caused by viruses. Currently, we distinguish three types of interferons. They are classified based on the nucleotide sequence, interaction with specific receptors, chromosomal location, structure and physicochemical properties. The following interferons are classified as type I: α, β, ω, κ, ε, ζ, τ, δ, ν. They are recognized and bound by a receptor formed by two peptides, IFN-αR1 and IFN-αR2. Representative of type II interferons is interferon-γ. It binds to a receptor composed of chains IFNGR-1 and IFNGR-2. The recently classified type III interferons comprise IFN-λ1, IFN-λ2, and IFN-λ3. They act on receptors formed by λR1 IFN-and IL-10R2 subunits. A high level of antiviral protection is achieved by IFN-α, IFN-β and IFN-λ. Antiviral activity of interferons is based on the induction and regulation of innate and acquired immune mechanisms. By binding to transmembrane receptors, IFN interacts with target cells mainly by activating the JAK/STAT, but also other signaling pathways. This leads to induction and activation of many antiviral agents, such as protein kinase RNA-activated (PKR), ribonuclease 2-5A pathway, and Mx proteins, as well as numerous apoptotic pathways. As a result of the protective effect of interferons, the virus binding to cells and viral particles penetration into cells is stopped, and the release of the nucleocapsid from an envelope is suppressed. Disruption of transcription and translation processes of the structural proteins prevents the formation of virions or budding of viruses, and as a result degradation of the viral mRNA; the started processes inhibit the chain synthesis of viral proteins and therefore further stimulate the immune system cells.
