Mobilisation of alternate load path (ALP) mechanisms in 3D beam-slab systems is a key factor in designing structures against progressive collapse. Existing analytical methods on 3D beam-slab systems focusing on limited load-resisting mechanisms often lead to uneconomical and unrealistic design, while finite element models with 3D solid elements are too complicated and time consuming for 3D beam-slab systems. To address these shortcomings, this paper aims to provide structural engineers two simple but effective and reliable approaches to predict structural behaviour of 3D beam-slab systems. They include (i) an analytical method and (ii) a simplified finite element model based on strip method and grillage analysis. Both approaches are validated against published test results for 3D beam-slab systems. Compared to existing approaches on 3D beam-slab systems, these two proposed methods incorporate all the load resisting mechanisms in both the beams and slabs, giving more accurate and realistic predictions of load-displacement curves for the sub-structures considered. In addition, parametric studies on the analytical approach are presented to shed light on the role of boundary conditions and the contribution of slabs to load resistance capacity of 3D beam-slab structures against progressive collapse. 본 연구는 대학생의 완벽주의와 학업지연행동의 관계를 확인하고 그 사이에서 스트레스 대처방식이 미치는 조절효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 남자 대학생 38명, 여자 대학생 81명을 대상으로 다차원적 완벽주의 척도, 스트레스 대처 전략 평가지, 지연행동 척도를 사용하여 설문을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자기지향적 완벽주의와 학업지연행동은 유의한 부적 상관을 가졌다. 둘째, 사회적으로 부과된 완벽주의와 학업지연행동은 유의한 상관을 가지지 않았다. 셋째, 회피 중심 대처방식이 자기지향적 완벽주의와 학업지연행동의 관계에서 유의한 조절효과를 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 문제 해결 중심 대처방식과 사회적 지지 추구는 완벽주의와 학업지연행동의 관계에서 유의한 조절효과를 미치지 않았다. 본 연구는 완벽주의와 스트레스 대처방식의 상호작용을 통해 학업지연행동을 파악 및 개선하는 데 기초가 되는 정보를 제공하였다는 의의를 가진다.

Background: Due to the aging population in Korea, knee osteoarthritis (KOA) has become an increasingly common condition. Many patients with KOA prefer analgesics, herbal medicines, acupuncture, or exercise, rather than arthroscopic surgery or a knee replacement. Gyebutang (GB) granules are a herbal extract widely used to treat KOA in traditional Korean medicine, but there is insufficient evidence of its efficacy and safety.Methods: A multicenter, randomized, assessor-blinded, 2-armed parallel, controlled clinical trial has been designed to investigate the efficacy and safety of GB combined with acupuncture for the treatment of KOA. There will be 100 patients with KOA enrolled in the study from 3 traditional Korean medicine hospitals. The participants will be randomly allocated to an experimental group (GB and acupuncture) or a control group (celecoxib and acupuncture) in a 1:1 ratio. Both groups will receive acupuncture treatment once a week for 6 weeks; one group will receive GB and the other will receive celecoxib for the same duration.Results: The primary outcome will be the change of knee osteoarthritic pain, based on scores on a 100 mm visual analog scale. The secondary outcomes will be scores on a numeric rating scale, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index, patient global assessment, European quality of life 5-dimension 5-level scale, and adverse events.Conclusion: The results of this study will provide evidence of efficacy and safety of GB as a treatment for patients with KOA.

Despite technical advancements in the perioperative management of cancer surgery, postoperative pain remains a significant clinical issue. We examined the diagnostic value of the intraoperative perfusion index for predicting acute postoperative pain in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery. We retrospectively analyzed data for 105 patients who had undergone laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery. Patients with pain scores &lt, 7 and &ge, 7 on a 10-point scale upon arrival in the postoperative anesthesia care unit (PACU) were categorized into the N and P groups, respectively. The perfusion index value was extracted prior to intubation, at the start and end of surgery, and after extubation. To minimize individual variance in the absolute value of the perfusion index, we calculated the perfusion index change ratio. A total of 98 patients were examined. Among them, 50 (51.0%) and 48 (49.0%) patients reported pain scores of &lt, 7 upon arrival at the PACU, respectively. Fentanyl consumption during the intraoperative and PACU periods was significantly higher in Group P than in Group N (p &lt, 0.001). The perfusion index change ratios did not significantly differ between the groups. The intraoperative perfusion index change ratios do not correlate with acute postoperative pain following laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery.

The purpose of this study is to propose a novel method of optimal display gamma curve using display performance and image contents characteristic which is displayed on the device. For the aspect of the display performance, image quality is a complex task because it is a consequence of interaction of quality attribute. However, the gamma attribute is the most dominant aspect for the display quality. Applying the curve of optimal display gamma can improve both the quality of displayed image and visibility for the environment of mobile device usage. In this study, we suggest a method of optimal display gamma curve based on display performance, image contents characteristic, and the environment of mobile device usage.

Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) is an important disorder that may seriously impair daily functioning and quality of life in patients with cirrhosis. Treatment with lactulose is of benefit. The possible role of synbiotics (probiotics and fermentable fiber) has not been assessed. We screened 97 consecutive cirrhotic patients without overt hepatic encephalopathy for MHE using the number connection test and measurement of brainstem auditory evoked potentials. MHE, defined by abnormality on at least one test modality, was present in 58 (60%) patients. Fifty-five of these patients with MHE were randomized to receive a synbiotic preparation (n = 20), fermentable fiber alone (n = 20), or placebo (n = 15) for 30 days. Cirrhotic patients with MHE were found to have substantial derangements in the gut microecology, with significant fecal overgrowth of potentially pathogenic Escherichia coli and Staphylococcal species. Synbiotic treatment significantly increased the fecal content of non-urease-producing Lactobacillus species at the expense of these other bacterial species. Such modulation of the gut flora was associated with a significant reduction in blood ammonia levels and reversal of MHE in 50% of patients. Synbiotic treatment was also associated with a significant reduction in endotoxemia. The Child-Turcotte-Pugh functional class improved in nearly 50% of cases. Treatment with fermentable fiber alone was also of benefit in a substantial proportion of patients. In conclusion, treatment with synbiotics or fermentable fiber is an alternative to lactulose for the management of MHE in patients with cirrhosis.

The effect of die wall friction on the densification of metal powders under die pressing is studied. The elastoplastic constitutive equations based on the yield functions by Fleck and Gurson and by Shima and Oyane were implemented into a finite element program to simulate die compaction processes. The friction coefficient between the powder and the die wall was determined from the relationship between the compaction pressure and the ejection pressure. Finite element calculations were compared with experimental data for densification and deformation of 316L stainless steel powder and D7 tool steel powder under single and double action die pressing.
