The over-dependence on fossil fuels is one of the critical issues to be addressed for combating greenhouse gas emissions. Hydrogen, one of the promising alternatives to fossil fuels, is renewable, carbon-free, and non-polluting gas. The complete utilization of hydrogen in every sector ranging from small to large scale could hugely benefit in mitigating climate change. One of the key aspects of the hydrogen sector is its production via cost-effective and safe ways. Electrolysis and photocatalysis are well-known processes for hydrogen production and their efficiency relies on electrocatalysts, which are generally noble metals. The usage of noble metals as catalysts makes these processes costly and their scarcity is also a limiting factor. Metal nitrides and their porous counterparts have drawn considerable attention from researchers due to their good promise for hydrogen production. Their properties such as active metal centres, nitrogen functionalities, and porous features such as surface area, pore-volume, and tunable pore size could play an important role in electrochemical and photocatalytic hydrogen production. This review focuses on the recent developments in metal nitrides from their synthesis methods point of view. Much attention is given to the emergence of new synthesis techniques, methods, and processes of synthesizing the metal nitride nanostructures. The applications of electrochemical and photocatalytic hydrogen production are summarized. Overall, this review will provide useful information to researchers working in the field of metal nitrides and their application for hydrogen production.

Organoid technology has provided unique insights into human organ development, function, and diseases. Patient-derived organoids are increasingly used for drug screening, modeling rare disorders, designing regenerative therapies, and understanding disease pathogenesis. However, the use of Matrigel to grow organoids represents a major challenge in the clinical translation of organoid technology. Matrigel is a poorly defined mixture of extracellular matrix proteins and growth factors extracted from the Engelbreth–Holm–Swarm mouse tumor. The extracellular matrix is a major driver of multiple cellular processes and differs significantly between tissues as well as in healthy and disease states of the same tissue. Therefore, we envisioned that the extracellular matrix derived from a native healthy tissue would be able to support organoid growth akin to organogenesis in vivo. Here, we have developed hydrogels from decellularized human and bovine endometrium. These hydrogels supported the growth of mouse and human endometrial organoids, which was comparable to Matrigel. Organoids grown in endometrial hydrogels were proteomically more similar to the native tissue than those cultured in Matrigel. Proteomic and Raman microspectroscopy analyses showed that the method of decellularization affects the biochemical composition of hydrogels and, subsequently, their ability to support organoid growth. The amount of laminin in hydrogels correlated with the number and shape of organoids. We also demonstrated the utility of endometrial hydrogels in developing solid scaffolds for supporting high-throughput, cell culture–based applications. In summary, endometrial hydrogels overcome a major limitation of organoid technology and greatly expand the applicability of organoids to understand endometrial biology and associated pathologies.

Conversion of plastic waste into graphene nanosheets and its application in supercapacitor.

Mesoporous silica-based nanoparticles (MSNs) have gained rapid interest as a drug delivery system (DDS) and demonstrated their versatility in delivering drugs for the treatment of various cancers. However, the drug loading efficiency of MSNs is low and is usually improved by improving textural properties through complicated synthesis methods or by post synthesis modification of the surface that can result in the loss of surface area and modify its drug release properties. In this study, we report a direct single-step synthesis of MSNs with a unique egg-yolk core-shell morphology, large pore volume and a hydrophilic surface, decorated with nitrogen rich surface functionalities for increasing its drug loading capacity. This combination of excellent textural properties and surface functionalisation was achieved by a simple soft templating method using dual surfactants and the silica sources assisted by employing either triethylamine (TEA) or triethanolamine (TEO) as the hydrolysis agent. The morphology and well-ordered mesoporous structure can simply be tuned by changing the pH of the synthesis medium that affects the self-assembly mechanism of the micelles. HRTEM image of samples clearly revealed an egg-yolk core-shell morphology with a thin mesoporous silica shell. Nanoceria prepared with different Ce3+/Ce4+ ratios show different oxidase mimetic activities. The activity is enhanced selectively in presence of fluoride ions and used for glutathione detection.

This work for the first time presents the effect of porosity and skew edges on the transient response of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates using a layerwise finite element formulation. Two configurations of FGM sandwich plates are considered. In the first configuration, the top and the bottom layers are made of the FGM and the core is made of pure metal, whereas in the second configuration, the bottom, core and the top layers are made of pure metal, FGM and pure ceramic, respectively. Four micromechanics models based on the rule of mixture are used to model porosity for these two configurations of FGM sandwich plates. A layerwise theory based on a first-order shear deformation theory for each layer that maintains the displacement continuity at the layer interface is used for the present investigation. An eight-noded isoparametric element with nine degrees of freedom per node is used to develop the finite element model (FEM). The governing equations for the present investigation are derived using Hamilton’s principle. A wide range of comparison studies are presented to establish the accuracy of the present FEM formulation. It has been shown here that the parameters like skew angle, porosity coefficient, volume fraction index, core to facesheet thickness ratio and boundary conditions have a significant effect on the transient response of FGM sandwich plates. Also, the present finite element formulation is simple and accurate.

The objective of the current study was to evaluate the altitudinal variability in chemical compounds, nematicidal, insecticidal, herbicidal, and antifungal activity of the essential oils of H. coronarium collected from four different habitats of Tarai and Kumaun region of Uttarakhand. Essential oils were hydro-distilled from rhizomes of H. coronarium, and their yield varied from 0.05 to 0.25% (v/w). Based on GC-MS analysis, the major compounds observed were 1, 8-cineole (12.21–18.27%), coronarin E (10.20–14%), α-terpineol (5.32–10.13%), terpinen-4-ol (2.20–4.67%), α-pinene (4.90–8.77%), Z-caryophyllene (4.67–12.29%), and linalool (1.96–4.62%). To visually observe the variation in the oil composition profile of essential oils, heat map clustering, Venn diagram, and principal component analysis (PCA) were performed. To evaluate the pesticidal properties, the essential oils were tested under laboratory conditions. Additionally, significant nematicidal activity was demonstrated by essential oils against Meloidogyne incognita, good insecticidal activity against Spodoptera litura, and moderate herbicidal activity on Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. sativus, and effective antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum and Curvularia lunata was observed in the current investigation.

Globba sessiliflora Sims is an aromatic rhizomatous herb of family Zingiberaceae which is endemic to Peninsular India. This study first reports the phytochemical profile and pesticidal potential of oleoresins obtained from the aerial and rhizome parts of Globba sessiliflora Sims. The oleoresins were prepared by the cold percolation method and were analyzed by a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. Both the oleoresins varied greatly in composition, the major compounds identified in aerial part oleoresin (GSAO) were methyl linoleate, methyl palmitate, and phytol, while the major compounds present in rhizome part oleoresin (GSRO) were γ-sitosterol, 8 (17),12-labdadiene-15, 16-dial, methyl linoleate, and methyl palmitate. In order to evaluate the biological activities, the oleoresins were tested under laboratory conditions for nematicidal action and inhibition of egg hatching potential against root knot nematode, where GSRO was more effective. Insecticidal activity was performed against mustard aphid, Lipaphis erysimi and castor hairy caterpillar, Selepa celtis. In case of mustard aphid, GSRO (LC50 = 154.8 ppm) was more effective than GSAO (LC50 = 263.0 ppm), while GSAO (LC50 = 346.7.0 ppm) was more effective against castor hairy caterpillar than GSRO (LC50 = 398.1 ppm). The herbicidal activity was performed in the receptor species Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. sativus, and the oleoresins showed different intensities for seed germination inhibition and coleoptile and radical length inhibition. Molecular docking studies were conducted to screen the in vitro activities and through molecular docking, it was found that the major oleoresins components were able to interact with the binding pocket of HPPD and AChE with γ-sitosterol showing the best binding affinity.

Presently, carbon-based nanomaterials have shown tremendous potential for energy conversion applications. Especially, carbon-based materials have emerged as excellent candidates for the fabrication of halide perovskite-based solar cells, which may lead to their commercialization. In the last decade, PSCs have rapidly developed, and these hybrid devices demonstrate a comparable performance to silicon-based solar cells in terms of power conversion efficiency (PCE). However, PSCs lag behind silicon-based solar cells due to their poor stability and durability. Generally, noble metals such gold and silver are employed as back electrode materials during the fabrication of PSCs. However, the use of these expensive rare metals is associated with some issues, urgently necessitating the search for cost-effective materials, which can realize the commercial applications of PSCs due to their interesting properties. Thus, the present review shows how carbon-based materials can become the main candidates for the development of highly efficient and stable PSCs. Carbon-based materials such as carbon black, graphite, graphene nanosheets (2D/3D), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), carbon dots, graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and carbon nanosheets show potential for the laboratory and large-scale fabrication of solar cells and modules. Carbon-based PSCs can achieve efficient and long-term stability for both rigid and flexible substrates because of their high conductivity and excellent hydrophobicity, thus showing good results in comparison to metal electrode-based PSCs. Thus, the present review also demonstrates and discusses the latest state-of-the-art and recent advances for carbon-based PSCs. Furthermore, we present perspectives on the cost-effective synthesis of carbon-based materials for the broader view of the future sustainability of carbon-based PSCs. Nanoceria has evolved as a promising nanomaterial due to its unique enzyme-like properties, including excellent oxidase mimetic activity, which significantly increases in the presence of fluoride ions. However, this significant increase in oxidase activity has never been utilised as a signal enhancer for the detection of biological analytes partly because of the lack of understanding of the mechanism involved in this process. In this study, we show that the surface oxidation state of cerium ions plays a very crucial role in different enzymatic activities, especially the oxidase mimetic activity by engineering nanoceria with three different surface Ce4+/Ce3+ compositions. Using DFT calculations combined with Bader charge analysis, it is demonstrated that stoichiometric ceria registers a higher oxidase mimetic activity than oxygen-deficient ceria with a low Ce4+/Ce3+ ratio due to a higher charge transfer from a substrate, 3,3',5,5' tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), to the ceria surface. We also show that the fluoride ions can significantly increase the charge transfer from the TMB surface to ceria irrespective of the surface Ce4+/Ce3+ ratio. Using this knowledge, we first compare the fluoride sensing properties of nanoceria with high Ce4+ and mixed Ce4+/Ce3+ oxidation states and further demonstrate that the linear detection range of fluoride ions can be extended to 1-10 ppm for nanoceria with mixed oxidation states. Then, we also demonstrate an assay for fluoride assisted detection of glutathione, an antioxidant with elevated levels during cancer, using nanoceria with a high surface Ce4+/Ce3+ ratio. The addition of fluoride ions in this assay allows the detection of glutathione in the linear range of 2.5-50 ppm with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.8 ppm. These studies not only underpin the role of the surface Ce4+/Ce3+ ratio in tuning the fluoride assisted boost in the oxidase mimetic activity of nanoceria but also its strategic application in designing better colourimetric assays.

Mesoporous carbon nitrides with C3 N5 and C3 N6 stoichiometries created a new momentum in the field of organic metal-free semiconductors owing to their unique band structures and high basicity. Here, we report on the preparation of a novel graphitic microporous carbon nitride with a tetrazine based chemical structure and the composition of C3 N5.4 using ultra-stable Y zeolite as the template and aminoguanidine hydrochloride, a high nitrogen-containing molecule, as the CN precursor. Spectroscopic characterization and density functional theory calculations reveal that the prepared material exhibits a new molecular structure, which comprises two tetrazines and one triazine rings in the unit cell and is thermodynamically stable. The resultant carbon nitride shows an outstanding surface area of 130.4 m2 g-1 and demonstrates excellent CO2 adsorption per unit surface area of 47.54 μmol m-2 , which is due to the existence of abundant free NH2 groups, basic sites and microporosity. The material also exhibits highly selective sensing over water molecules (151.1 mmol g-1 ) and aliphatic hydrocarbons due to its unique microporous structure with a high amount of hydrophilic nitrogen moieties and recognizing ability towards small molecules.

Here we report on the synthesis of highly ordered nanoporous carbon decorated with CaF2 nanoclusters along the pore wall structure using dairy milk as a carbon and calcium source through nano-hard templating approach wherein mesoporous silica SBA-15 with different pore diameters are used as template. CaF2 is introduced during the removal process of silica template and can help to enhance the charge transfer. Nitrogen adsorption results reveal that the prepared materials exhibit high specific surface area with bimodal porous structures which act as a media for the rapid ion transports through the regular and interconnected micro- and mesoporous structure. The mesoporous carbon samples also exhibit hexagonally ordered pores with rod shaped morphology, which is similar to that of the template, confirming that the templating process is successful. Finally, the optimised electrode is highly stable and offers the capacitance of 182 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 with almost 100% retention rate even after 5000 cycles due to a strong intimate coupling generated by the CaF2 nanoclusters within the wall structure. The electrode performance of milk derived carbon samples is much better than that of activated carbon, multiwalled carbon nanotubes and the mesoporous carbons without CaF2.

A descriptive study was conducted to assess the knowledge regarding Gestational Diabetes Mellitus among antenatal women attending antenatal O.P.D. in a selected hospital of Delhi with a view to disseminate information through pamphlets. A sample of 100 antenatal women, was selected using purposive sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire was administered to assess the knowledge regarding Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. The data analysis and interpretation was done using descriptive and inferential statistics. Most of the antenatal women attending ANC OPD of the selected Hospital had good knowledge regarding Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. A pamphlet on Gestational Diabetes Mellitus was developed and disseminated among antenatal women. &nbsp

A comparative study of volatiles, antioxidant activity, phytotoxic activity, as well as in silico molecular docking and ADMET study, was conducted for essential oils from three Vitex species, viz., V. agnus-castus, V. negundo, and V. trifolia. Essential oils (OEs) extracted by hydrodistillation were subjected to compositional analysis using GC-MS. A total number of 37, 45, and 43 components were identified in V. agnus-castus, V. negundo, and V. trifolia, respectively. The antioxidant activity of EOs, assessed using different radical-scavenging (DPPH, H2O2 and NO), reducing power, and metal chelating assays, were found to be significant as compared with those of the standards. The phytotoxic potential of the EOs was performed in the receptor species Raphanusraphanistrum (wild radish) and the EOs showed different levels of intensity of seed germination inhibition and root and shoot length inhibition. The molecular docking study was conducted to screen the antioxidant and phytotoxic activity of the major and potent compounds against human protein target, peroxiredoxin 5, and 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase protein (HPPD). Results showed good binding affinities and attributed the strongest inhibitory activity to 13-epi-manoyl oxide for both the target proteins.

Skin cancer has emerged as one of the leading types of cancers in the world, causing a high impact on the global burden of health and the economy. Basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma are the localized forms of skin cancer with a high prevalence and can be treated with a high success rate. However, melanoma, a rare type of skin cancer with a high mortality rate, can metastasize and invade other parts of the body. Various skin cancer treatment approaches have been developed and advanced from localized to systemic treatment over the years to improve the low success rate associated with skin cancer, especially metastatic melanoma. The systemic treatment of skin cancer is highly benefitted by drug delivery systems (DDS) designed to function with much higher specificity and lower side effects than the direct treatment with drugs. While many nanomaterials based DDS have been developed in the past few years to take advantage of the small size and high functionality of nanomaterials, silica-based nanomaterials have recently emerged as the flexible DDS with a high biocompatibility, good clearance, a high drug loading capacity, and versatility to attach several drugs and targeting agents to its surface. In this review, recent progress in the treatment of melanoma using silica-based nanomaterials and their hybrids is discussed, highlighting the versatility and potential of these emerging nanomaterials as the DDS for delivering various molecules, including drugs and immunotherapy agents, peptides, and radio- and photo-active agents. The review also introduces various therapies available for the treatment of melanoma, including surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, phototherapy, and immunotherapy and discusses the improvement in these therapies based on silica-based DDS. The review also highlights the role of silica nanomaterials and their hybrids in delivering combination therapy and the advantages of silica nanohybrids over pure silica-based DDS. Finally, we summarize the present status of silica-based nanomaterials in melanoma treatment and the current challenges that have to be solved for the clinical translation of these materials as DDS.

Spatial-diurnal variability in the snow/glacier melt isotope signature and their influence on hydrograph separation based on mixing model received less attention. We present isotope data from a high elevation catchment (glacierized area: 286 km2) in the central Himalaya (India) and investigated the spatial-diurnal variability of snow/glacier meltwater along with inferences of groundwater dynamics. Isotope signature variation in streamflow was small during the study period. We applied a two-component mixing model using oxygen-18 and electrical conductivity. Hydrograph separation (snow/glacier meltwater and groundwater) was carried out for Bhagirathi River at three sites i.e., Gaumukh, Bhojbasa, and Gangotri, during the ablation period of 2014 (September). The Bhagirathi River is a major tributary of river Ganga, originate from Gangotri Glacier (~30 km), the largest glacier in central Himalaya. The electrical conductivity of the river is measured in-situ and varies from 10 μS/cm to 100 μS/cm. The river water isotope signature of oxygen was ranged from −15.53‰ to −14.32‰ from Gaumukh to Gangotri, snow samples were ranged from - 17.63‰ to - 15.86‰ collected at Gaumukh. Groundwater samples were varied from −8.53‰ to-7.57‰ from Gaumukh to Gangotri. River water signature is close to snow/glacier melt runoff signature, reveal that the snow/glacier melt runoff contribution is higher in river flow. Average fractions of snow/glacier melt runoff were estimated ~82% to~76%, whereas groundwater was estimated ~18% to ~24%. The results of this study reveal the necessity of a multiple sampling approaches to characterize the snow/glacier melt and the importance of groundwater dynamics in catchments with snow/glacial runoff regime.

Current and potential beneficial applications of engineered nanomaterials (ENM) are outweighed by the potential concern of their environmental implications. Understanding the impact of ENM release in the aquatic systems is complicated by the transport of the nanoparticles (NPs) especially in presence of various biotic and abiotic factors. Several attempts have been made to understand the aggregation and sedimentation of ENM in presence of individual factors such as natural organic matter and clay and in presence of salts to address their transportation and fate. The objective of the current study is to compare the effect of abiotic factors on the pH dependent stability and aggregation of TiO2 and CuO NP in a relevant fish embryo (E3) medium as a function of time. The aggregation and the sedimentation are compared in presence of humic acid (HA) alone, montmorillonite clay alone, and their combination. It is observed that in presence of HA, the aggregation of TiO2 NP and CuO NP decreases at pH 6, 8, and 10 and heteroagglomeration of TiO2 NP and CuO NP occurs with clay minerals at pH 2 and 4. It is also found that CuO NP are more stable than TiO2 NP in E3 medium and are perturbed to a lesser extent by the abiotic factors as compared to TiO2. Clay and HA are interesting naturally occurring matter in the aqueous environment that can affect the size, charge, and sedimentation behavior of ENM and thus affect their bioavailability and eventual toxicological fate.

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers, affecting more than 2.1 million people across the globe every year. A very high occurrence and mortality rate of lung cancer have prompted active research in this area with both conventional and novel forms of therapies including the use of nanomaterials based drug delivery agents. Specifically, the unique physico-chemical and biological properties of porous nanomaterials have gained significant momentum as drug delivery agents for delivering a combination of drugs or merging diagnosis with targeted therapy for cancer treatment. This review focuses on the emergence of nano-porous materials for drug delivery in lung cancer. The review analyses the currently used nanoporous materials, including inorganic, organic and hybrid porous materials for delivering drugs for various types of therapies, including chemo, radio and phototherapy. It also analyses the selected research on stimuli-responsive nanoporous materials for drug delivery in lung cancer before summarizing the various findings and projecting the future of emerging trends. This review provides a strong foundation for the current status of the research on nanoporous materials, their limitations and the potential for improving their design to overcome the unique challenges of delivering drugs for the treatment of lung cancer.

Müllerian ducts are paired tubular structures that give rise to most of the female reproductive organs. Any abnormalities in the development and differentiation of these ducts lead to anatomical defects in the female reproductive tract organs categorized as Müllerian duct anomalies. Due to the limited access to fetal tissues, little is understood of human reproductive tract development and the associated anomalies. Although organoids represent a powerful model to decipher human development and disease, such organoids from fetal reproductive organs are not available. Here, we developed organoids from human fetal fallopian tubes and uteri and compared them with their adult counterparts. Our results demonstrate that human fetal reproductive tract epithelia do not express some of the typical markers of adult reproductive tract epithelia. Furthermore, fetal organoids are grossly, histologically, and proteomically different from adult organoids. While external supplementation of WNT ligands or activators in culture medium is an absolute requirement for the adult reproductive tract organoids, fetal organoids are able to grow in WNT-deficient conditions. We also developed decellularized tissue scaffolds from adult human fallopian tubes and uteri. Transplantation of fetal organoids onto these scaffolds led to the regeneration of the adult fallopian tube and uterine epithelia. Importantly, suppression of Wnt signaling, which is altered in patients with Müllerian duct anomalies, inhibits the regenerative ability of human fetal organoids and causes severe anatomical defects in the mouse reproductive tract. Thus, our fetal organoids represent an important platform to study the underlying basis of human female reproductive tract development and diseases.

Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeNPs) exhibit excellent in vitro and in vivo antioxidant properties, determined by the redox switching of surface cerium ions between their two oxidation states (Ce3+ and Ce4+). It is known that ligands such as triethyl phosphite (TEP) can tune the redox behavior of CeNPs and change their biological enzyme-mimetic activities; however, the corresponding mechanism for such a behavior is completely unknown. Herein, we have studied the effect of TEP in promoting the SOD-enzyme-like activity in CeNPs with high and low Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio, which were synthesized by wet chemical and thermal hydrolysis methods, respectively, and incubated with varying concentrations of TEP. X-ray diffraction, UV-visible, photoluminescence, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy combined with DFT calculations were used to investigate the interaction of TEP on the surface of CeNPs. We observed a clear correlation between TEP concentration and the formation of surface oxygen vacancies. XPS analysis confirmed the increase in Ce3+ concentration after interaction with TEP. Moreover, we show that TEP's influence depends on the surface Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio. The superoxide dismutase-, catalase-, and oxidase-like activities of CeNPs with high Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio are not affected by TEP interaction, whereas catalase- and oxidase-like activities of CeNPs with low Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio decrease and the SOD-like activity is found to increase upon incubation with different concentrations of TEP. We also demonstrate that TEP interaction does not affect the regeneration of the CeNP surface, while the DFT calculations show that TEP facilitates the formation of defects on the surface of stoichiometric cerium oxide by reducing the oxygen vacancy formation energy. CeNPs with low Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio incubated with TEP also exhibited good antibacterial activity as compared to the CeNPs or TEP alone.

This work reports a facile, eco-friendly, and cost-effective mass-scale synthesis of metal-doped graphene sheets (MDGs) using agriculture waste of Quercus ilex leaves for supercapacitor applications. A single step-degradation catalyst-based pyrolysis route was used for the manufacture of MDGs. Obtained MDGs were further evaluated via advanced spectroscopy and microscopic techniques including Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR, XRD, SEM/EDX, and TEM imaging. The Raman spectrum showed D and G bands at 1300 cm−1 and 1590 cm−1, respectively, followed by a 2D band at 2770 cm−1, which confirmed the synthesis of few-layered MDGs. The SEM/EDX data confirmed the presence of 6.15%, 3.17%, and 2.36% of potassium, calcium and magnesium in the obtained MDGs, respectively. Additionally, the FT-IR, XRD, TEM, and SEM data including the plot profile diagrams confirmed the synthesis of MDGs. Further, a computational study was performed for the structural validation of MDGs using Gaussian 09. The density functional theory (DFT) results showed a chemisorption/decoration pattern of doping for metal ions on the few-layered graphene nanosheets, rather than a substitutional pattern. Further, resulting MDGs were used as an active material for the fabrication of a supercapacitor electrode using the polymer gel of PVA–H3PO4 as the electrolyte. The fabricated device showed a decent specific capacitance of 18.2 F g−1 at a scan rate of 5 mV s−1 with a power density of 1000 W kg−1 at 5 A g−1.

In this research, a layerwise based finite element model is presented to obtain the transient responses for functionally graded material sandwich (FGM-SW) plates under blast load. A first-order displacement field based layerwise theory with C0 continuity at layer interface has been used for the present analyses. The governing equations for the same are solved using Hamilton’s Principle in conjunction with Newmark beta average acceleration method to obtain blast response of FGM sandwich plates. The lower and upper facesheets are made of pure metal and pure ceramic, respectively and the material properties of the core is distributed from bottom to top from pure metal to pure ceramic by employing the rule of mixture. Three different cases of blast loading comprising of air-blast, step and sine are considered for the present analysis. The effect of various blast loads and power-law index is investigated on the transient behavior of functionally graded material sandwich plates.

Universal solid waste management and its hazardous effects on the ecology, ecosystem, and the global human health index are some of the major issues that are currently threatening our future. The overproduction of solid waste materials is mainly the consequence of human population explosion and extraordinary increase in global economy along with global productivity. Due to the rapid growth in global population and the related demands, the production of solid waste materials is increasing day by day. In order to have a better solution to solid waste management, the best ethical way is to convert solid waste materials into valuable carbon-based nanomaterials (CNMs) such as CNT, graphene, and carbon quantum dots (CQDs), which can further work as precursors in energy storage devices. This critical review summarizes the recent progress in the structural forms and current situational analysis of universal solid waste based CNMs. It also includes broadly discussed issues, starting with the current waste situation analysis of global energy crisis and the production of graphene, including its counterparts, as the precursors for supercapacitor applications. A paradigm study of various solid waste derived CNMs with their significance, which, in particular, depends upon the types of CNMs and the classification of solid waste derived CNMs on the basis of different types of pore size and pore distribution, has been carried out. The various structural modifications and their effects on the electrochemical properties have been discussed thoroughly for supercapacitor applications including their future possibilities and scope. The review outlines the crucial mechanism followed during the charge storage of different kinds of supercapacitors and various electrochemical calculations involved during the performance testing of the fabricated device. We hope that the target audience, belonging to the energy or material science field, may acquire relevant information from this review, which may further help them to design futuristic studies in the field.

The experimental realization and computational validation for graphene oxide (GO) supported palladium (Pd)-iron (Fe) nanohybrids as a new generation electrocatalyst for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) has been reported. The experimental apprehension of the present catalyst system has been initiated with the graphene oxide, followed by the doping of Pd and Fe via thermal inter calation of palladium chloride and iron chloride with the in-situ downstream reduction to get nanohybrids of the GO-Pd-Fe. These nanohybrids are subsequently characterized by RAMAN, FT-IR, UV–Vis, XRD, SEM, EDS, TEM and HRTEM analysis. Furthermore, the first principle calculations based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) with semi-empirical Grimme DFT-D2 correction has been performed to support the experimental findings. Computational results revealed the alteration of graphene electronic nature from zero-band gaped to metallic/semi-metallic on adsorption of transition metal clusters. Moreover, the defect sites of the graphene surface are more favorable than the pristine sites for transition metal adsorption owing to the strong binding energies of the former. Electrochemical studies show that GO-Pd-Fe nanohybrids catalyst (Pd: Fe = 2:1) demonstrates excellent catalytic activity as well as the higher electrochemical surface area of (58.08 m2/g Pd–Fe)−1 which is higher than the commercially available Pt/C catalyst with electrochemical surface area 37.87 m2/(g Pt)−1.

Herein, we report the modification of PEDOT:PSS by in-situ direct addition of graphene oxide powder processed by spray dryer (SPGO) for the enhancement in the performance of organic solar cell. The preparation of PEDOT:PSS/SPGO composite was done by direct incorporation of graphene oxide powder at lower temperature i.e., below 5 °C. Raman spectroscopy of the prepared PEDOT:PSS/SPGO nanocomposites at low temperature suggested that low temperature plays a vital role to improve the ability of these composite as hole transport layer by improving adhesive properties of the composite. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis suggested that the adhesive ability of these composite decreased surface roughness and thus providing smoother path for the hole transportation. After the successful synthesis of PEDOT:PSS/SPGO nanocomposites, ITO/PEDOT:PSS/SPGO/PTB7:PC71BM/Al based organic solar cell was fabricated. The J–V curves under AM 1.5G illumination (100 mW/cm2) of the PTB7:PC71BM based OSCs using PEDOT:PSS/SPGO as a HTL exhibit Voc = 0.67 V, Jsc = 17.3 mA, FF = 41.5%, PCE = 4.82%, and device with PEDOT:PSS as HTL exhibit Voc = 0.68 V, Jsc = 16.0 mA/cm2, FF = 38.7% and PCE = 4.04%. The enhance PCE in case of PEDOT:PSS/SPGO based devices depicted that the direct inclusion of graphene oxide in PEDOT:PSS increased the PCE almost 16%, which arises due the high conductivity and stable pi–pi stacking of the spray dryer processed graphene sheets with PEDOT:PSS which ease the charge carrier mobility, thus providing feasible path for charge transportation.
