Dopant-free lateral p-n junctions in the GaAs/AlGaAs material system have attracted interest due to their potential use in quantum optoelectronics (e.g., optical quantum computers or quantum repeaters) and ease of integration with other components, such as single electron pumps and spin qubits. A major obstacle to integration has been unwanted charge accumulation at the p-n junction gap that suppresses light emission, either due to enhanced non-radiative recombination or inhibition of p-n current. Typically, samples must frequently be warmed to room temperature to dissipate this built-up charge and restore light emission in a subsequent cooldown. Here, we introduce a practical gate voltage protocol that clears this parasitic charge accumulation, in-situ at low temperature, enabling the indefinite cryogenic operation of devices. This reset protocol enabled the optical characterization of stable, bright, dopant-free lateral p-n junctions with electroluminescence linewidths among the narrowest (< 1 meV; < 0.5 nm) reported in this type of device. It also enabled the unambiguous identification of the ground state of neutral free excitons (heavy and light holes), as well as charged excitons (trions). The free exciton emission energies for both photoluminescence and electroluminescence are found to be nearly identical. The binding and dissociation energies for free and charged excitons are reported. A free exciton lifetime of 237 ps was measured by time-resolved electroluminescence, compared to 419 ps with time-resolved photoluminescence., Main text: 5 pages and 5 figures. Reconstruction of lip defects is important because the lips play an important role in maintaining aesthetic facial balance, facial expressions, and speech. There are various methods of lip reconstruction such as primary repair, skin grafting, and utilization of local and free flaps. It is important to select a proper reconstruction method according to the size and location of lip defect. Failure to select an appropriate method may result in distortion, color mismatch, sensory loss, and aesthetic imbalance. Herein we present a case of successful aesthetic reconstruction of the lower vermilion. We removed a venous malformation, which was limited to the lower vermilion and adjacent to the white roll, and repaired the defect using the modified O-Z flap.

Post-traumatic hematoma formation is a common complication of contusion. If the hematoma is large enough to aspirate or drain, it can be treated quickly and appropriately. However, if the hematoma is small or concealed by local swelling, it may be overlooked and left untreated. In most cases, a hematoma will resolve following conservative treatment; however, associated infection or muscle fibrosis can occur. Herein, we present the case of a patient with a chin deformity caused by a post-traumatic hematoma. The deformity was treated using botulinum toxin and triamcinolone acetonide injections as minimally invasive treatments. The course of treatment was good.

Background There was no practical guideline for the management of patients with central nervous system tumor in Korea for many years. Thus, the Korean Society for Neuro-Oncology (KSNO), a multidisciplinary academic society, has developed the guideline for glioblastoma. Subsequently, the KSNO guideline for World Health Organization (WHO) grade II cerebral glioma in adults is established. Methods The Working Group was composed of 35 multidisciplinary medical experts in Korea. References were identified by searching PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane CENTRAL databases using specific and sensitive keywords as well as combinations of keywords regarding diffuse astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma of brain in adults. Results Whenever radiological feature suggests lower grade glioma, the maximal safe resection if feasible is recommended globally. After molecular and histological examinations, patients with diffuse astrocytoma, isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-wildtype without molecular feature of glioblastoma should be primarily treated by standard brain radiotherapy and adjuvant temozolomide chemotherapy (Level III) while those with molecular feature of glioblastoma should be treated following the protocol for glioblastomas. In terms of patients with diffuse astrocytoma, IDH-mutant and oligodendroglioma (IDH-mutant and 1p19q codeletion), standard brain radiotherapy and adjuvant PCV (procarbazine+lomustine+vincristine) combination chemotherapy should be considered primarily for the high-risk group while observation with regular follow up should be considered for the low-risk group. Conclusion The KSNO's guideline recommends that WHO grade II gliomas should be treated by maximal safe resection, if feasible, followed by radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy according to molecular and histological features of tumors and clinical characteristics of patients.

A dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging (DCE-MRI) could provide the information about tumor drug delivery efficacy. We investigated the potential utility of the permeability pattern of DCE-MRI for predicting tumor response to high dose-methotrexate treatment and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL). Clinical and conventional imaging parameters were assessed as potential predictors of tumor response in 48 immunocompetent PCNSL patients in a preliminary study. Fifty additional immunocompetent patients (27 men and 23 women; mean age, 60.6 years) with PCNSL underwent DCE-MRI before starting first-line treatment with high dose-methotrexate. The DCE-MRI pattern was categorized as diffuse or nondiffuse. After 4 courses of high dose methotrexate, patients underwent follow-up brain MR imaging to identify their complete response (CR). Predictors of CR and PFS were analyzed using clinical parameters, conventional MRI, and DCE-MRI. CR was noted in 20 (74.1%) of 27 patients with diffuse DCE-MRI pattern and in 4 (17.4%) of 23 patients with nondiffuse DCE-MRI pattern. Electrochemical properties were studied for a single particle of active material of hydrogen storage alloy and nickel hydroxides for the secondary Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries using the microelectrode, which was manipulated to make electrical contact with an active material particle for cyclic voltammograms (CV) and potential-step experiments. As a result of CV test, it was found that three kinds of hydrogen oxidation peaks at -0.9, -0.75 and -0.65 V and hydrogen evolution peak at -0.98 V for hydrogen storage alloy were separately observed and two kinds of peaks of proton oxidation/reduction at 0.45 and 0.32 V and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at 0.6 V for nickel hydroxides were also more clearly observed. Furthermore hydrogen diffusion coefficient within a single particle was also found to vary the order between over the course of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation process for potential-step experiments.
