10.7 cm solar radio flux, light-trap, moths, caddisfly - Abstract
The present study deals with the connection of 10.7 cm solar radio flux and light-trap catches of insect species from three continents: Australia, Europe and North America. For each moth (Lepidoptera) and caddisfly (Trichoptera) species, a relationship was found between the 10.7 cm solar radio flux and the number of insects captured. However, the relationships were not identical.

parasitic diseases ,1107 Immunology, 1108 Medical Microbiology - Abstract
Background: The unique immunomodulatory capacity of helminth parasites has been investigated as a novel strategy in the prevention of allograft rejection after transplantation. This review was conducted to fully evaluate the specific effects of helminth therapy on allograft survival reported in published studies of animal models of allogeneic transplantation. Method: Following PRISMA protocol guidelines, a literature search was conducted using PubMed, MEDLINE via OvidSP, along with additional manual searches of selected reference lists. Publications describing helminth intervention within allograft transplantation models were screened for relevance to eligibility criteria. Primary and secondary outcomes were extracted using standardized data collection tables. The SYRCLE risk of bias assessment tool was used for quality assessment. Due to heterogeneity of study designs, meta-analysis could not be performed; rather outcomes are presented as a narrative synthesis with concept mapping. This review was registered in PROSPERO with ID: CRD42018097175. Results: The literature search generated 1,443 publications, which after screening for relevance to the eligibility criteria yielded 15 publications for qualitative analysis. All 15 publications reported improvement to allograft survival as a result of helminth therapy. This prolonged allograft survival was not significantly different when helminth-derived products were used compared to live infection. However, the extent of positive impact on allograft survival was noted to be dependent on study design factors, such as the chronicity of the live helminth infection, allograft type and the species/genus of helminth selected. Conclusion: Both live and product-based helminth therapy have potential applications as novel immune regulators or adjuncts for the prevention of allograft rejection. However, there were differences in efficacy between different worms and preparations of worm-derived products. Therefore, further studies are required to determine the most appropriate worm for a specific allograft, to elucidate the optimal dose and route of administration, and to better understand the modulation of immune responses that can mediate tolerance.

XIPE, the X-ray Imaging Polarimetry Explorer, is a mission dedicated to X-ray Astronomy. At the time of writing XIPE is in a competitive phase A as fourth medium size mission of ESA (M4). It promises to reopen the polarimetry window in high energy Astrophysics after more than 4 decades thanks to a detector that efficiently exploits the photoelectric effect and to X-ray optics with large effective area. XIPE uniqueness is time-spectrally-spatially- resolved X-ray polarimetry as a breakthrough in high energy astrophysics and fundamental physics. Indeed the payload consists of three Gas Pixel Detectors at the focus of three X-ray optics with a total effective area larger than one XMM mirror but with a low weight. The payload is compatible with the fairing of the Vega launcher. XIPE is designed as an observatory for X-ray astronomers with 75 % of the time dedicated to a Guest Observer competitive program and it is organized as a consortium across Europe with main contributions from Italy, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Poland, Sweden.

Altres ajuts: This work was supported by Celyad, SA (Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium). Celyad has received research grants from the Walloon Region (Belgium, DG06 funding). Cardiopoietic cells, produced through cardiogenic conditioning of patients' mesenchymal stem cells, have shown preliminary efficacy. The Congestive Heart Failure Cardiopoietic Regenerative Therapy (CHART-1) trial aimed to validate cardiopoiesis-based biotherapy in a larger heart failure cohort. This multinational, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled study was conducted in 39 hospitals. Patients with symptomatic ischaemic heart failure on guideline-directed therapy (n = 484) were screened; n = 348 underwent bone marrow harvest and mesenchymal stem cell expansion. Those achieving > 24 million mesenchymal stem cells (n = 315) were randomized to cardiopoietic cells delivered endomyocardially with a retention-enhanced catheter (n = 157) or sham procedure (n = 158). Procedures were performed as randomized in 271 patients (n = 120 cardiopoietic cells, n = 151 sham). The primary efficacy endpoint was a Finkelstein–Schoenfeld hierarchical composite (all-cause mortality, worsening heart failure, Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire score, 6-min walk distance, left ventricular end-systolic volume, and ejection fraction) at 39 weeks. The primary outcome was neutral (Mann–Whitney estimator 0.54, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.47–0.61 [value > 0.5 favours cell treatment], P = 0.27). Exploratory analyses suggested a benefit of cell treatment on the primary composite in patients with baseline left ventricular end-diastolic volume 200–370 mL (60% of patients) (Mann–Whitney estimator 0.61, 95% CI 0.52–0.70, P = 0.015). No difference was observed in serious adverse events. One (0.9%) cardiopoietic cell patient and 9 (5.4%) sham patients experienced aborted or sudden cardiac death. The primary endpoint was neutral, with safety demonstrated across the cohort. Further evaluation of cardiopoietic cell therapy in patients with elevated end-diastolic volume is warranted.

The continuous expansion of built-up areas in the urban environment at the expense of green spaces brings up numerous environmental problems, for which accurate and efficient solutions should be found. The assessment of ecosystem services developed within the field of landscape ecology is playing an ever more important role in environmental sciences and thus may offer suitable answers. Such assessments can be carried out by developing indicators. Accordingly, in the case of urban trees, an accurate quantitative characterization of their services (such as e.g. carbon sequestration, pollutant removal and microclimate regulation) is also needed. The aim of this study is to establish a generally applicable method based on indicator development, using widely available data. In the case of urban green spaces there are several services for which the development of proper indicators and evaluation methods requires a delineation of tree crowns, or at least the crown projection area. Accordingly, in our work, we map the crown projection area of a large and popular urban park of Szeged, Széchenyi square, using object-based image analysis on UltraCamD digital orthophotos. Following a multiresolution segmentation the classification of the resulting objects was carried out, using the eCognition image analysis software. Besides fulfilling the policy objectives related to the evaluation of urban ecosystem services, the produced crown base can also be used in several other types of urban ecological and urban climatological studies (e.g. urban climate modelling, human-comfort assessment). In this paper the first results are presented.

jel:E43 ,jel:E52 ,neutral interest rate, natural rate of interest, monetary policy stance, Hungary - Abstract
Central banks primarily achieve their inflation targets by changing their key instrument, the central bank base rate, to the required extent and with careful timing. If the inflation outlook deteriorates and the forward-looking inflation rate exceeds the target, monetary policy raises interest rates to cool the economy and reduce inflation. In the opposite scenario, the bank cuts interest rates to stimulate the economy and raise inflation. In order to decide whether the prevailing rate of interest stimulates or slows the economy, it is necessary to know where the interest rate threshold is for expansionary versus contractionary monetary policy. We call this point of reference the neutral interest rate or the natural rate of interest. Similar to potential output, the neutral interest rate is a theoretical equilibrium concept, not an observable variable. It is therefore difficult to grasp empirically and its point estimation is surrounded with a great degree of uncertainty. This essay looks at the individual factors influencing the neutral interest rate and gives an estimate for the range in which it may move in Hungary.

X-ray Astronomy ,X-ray optics ,Polarimetry ,Gas Pixel Detector - Abstract
XIPE, the X-ray Imaging Polarimetry Explorer, is a mission dedicated to X-ray Astronomy. At the time of writing XIPE is in a competitive phase A as fourth medium size mission of ESA (M4). It promises to reopen the polarimetry window in high energy Astrophysics after more than 4 decades thanks to a detector that efficiently exploits the photoelectric effect and to X-ray optics with large effective area. XIPE uniqueness is time-spectrally-spatially-resolved X-ray polarimetry as a breakthrough in high energy astrophysics and fundamental physics.

In our analysis, we describe and compare indicators regularly used in the course of money market monitoring, identifying the positions of FX market participants where co-movement with the forint exchange rate is most commonly observed. The correlation between the exchange rate and quantity indicators may be attributed on the one hand to the fact that market participants’ directly unobservable exchange rate expectations are reflected in transactions and positions. On the other hand, these indicators are also determined by factors that are less affected by participants’ expectations, or are linked to one-off liquidity shocks, yet they may affect the exchange rate through demand-supply effects. The exchange rate position of participants shifts in reaction to trading strategies described in the analysis (spot or swap FX conversions related to the purchase/sale of HUF-denominated instruments, taking or hedging of exchange rate exposure, balance of payments items, etc.), and the domestic banking sector, as a participant vis-a-vis the initiating party, must transfer this position to another participant if it does not wish to assume exchange rate exposure. The effect of taken up and transferred positions is also reflected in exchange rate changes; the degree of change is basically determined by the heterogeneity of expectations. Position changes of FX market participants allow us to derive their expectations related to fundamentals and hence changes in the expected risk premium. We attempt to identify changes in the risk premium in positions determined by participants’ expectations of with quantity indicators used in the course of money market monitoring. Among the individual sectors, it is primarily non-residents, as initiators of the transactions, that are the quickest to change their behaviour in response to changes in the risk perception of Hungary, while resident non-bank participants adjust through the intermediation of the domestic banking sector. We observed substantial co-movement with the exchange rate in relation to all indicators; significant correlation can be identified within the short-term dynamics. The reaction of the exchange rate is most sensitive to the adoption of speculative money market positions and least sensitive to changes in the indicator defined as the widest aggregate, which also includes derivative positions. The relationship between indicators and the exchange rate may change in reaction to shocks; instability over time and structural breaks in the relationship may provide information as to the nature and effect of the shocks. On the basis of our results, the adoption of a speculative long forint money market position by non-residents in the value of HUF 100 billion results in a 2.89 per cent appreciation of the exchange rate. This same coefficient is 1.42 per cent in relation to spot transactions and 1.15 per cent for the total forint position. In addition to the above, a bidirectional correlation is observed in relation to the forward stock of resident corporate participants: first, changes in the forward stock produce a tangible effect on the exchange rate, and second, changes in the exchange rate significantly affect companies’ hedging activity.

Polarimetry, Soft Gamma-Rays, Balloon Experiment - Abstract
Astrophysics with All-Sky X-Ray observations: 3rd International MAXI Workshop (RIKEN, 10-12 June 2008), The light-weight Polarized Gamma-Ray Observer (PoGOLite) experiment is designed to measure the linear polarization of celestial soft gamma-rays in the 25 keV - 80 keV energy range. Polarized gamma-rays are expected from a wide variety of sources including rotation-powered pulsars, accreting black holes and neutron stars, and jet-dominated active galaxies. Polarization has never been measured at soft gamma-ray energies where non-thermal processes are likely to produce high degrees of polarization. The polarization is derived from the azimuthal distribution of Compton scattering angles in the sensitive volume of the instrument. The scattering angle will be measured by detecting coincident Compton scattering and photo-absorption sites in an array of 217 phoswich detectors. The PoGOLite experiment is being developed by groups in USA, Sweden, France and Japan. We present the status of recent PoGOLite developments, including results from a polarized X-ray beam test performed at the KEK Photon Factory in February 2008., Physical characteristics: Original contains color illustrations, 資料番号: AA0064306073, レポート番号: JAXA-SP-08-014E

This paper focuses on the impact of the financial and economic crisis of 2008–2009 on the issuance of sovereign debt in the Central and Eastern European region and other developing countries. As a result of the fiscal rescue packages, the financing requirement of both developed and emerging countries has increased significantly since 2007, giving rise to substantial changes in risk appetite as well as considerable shifts in demand for the securities of various issuers operating in the global bond markets. During the most severe period of the crisis, only countries with the best credit ratings were able to obtain substantial amounts of funds, while less developed or emerging economies had limited options. In particular, shrinking borrowing opportunities translated into rising yields, weak auction demand and hence unsuccessful auctions. While the market turmoil did not spare less developed euro area countries either; these developments had a particularly negative impact on the government securities markets in the Central and Eastern European region. Although improving risk appetite prompted a parallel rebound in emerging sovereign bond markets, heightened competition for the shrinking financing resources raised the cost of funds in higher-risk economies considerably. Our findings show that – besides developments in risk appetite – demand for the sovereign bonds of emerging countries was also influenced by the crowding-out effect generated by the increased issuance of government papers in developed markets.

In this paper we analyse the relation between the EUR/HUF exchange rate, economic fundamentals and FX market transactions. Our results are in line with international experiences: the effect of macroeconomic announcements is transmitted to the exchange rate partly directly, with an immediate change in the exchange rate, and partly indirectly, via the information revealed through the FX market transactions, triggered by the news. We found that macroeconomic news, as well as the buying/selling pressure originating from one-way transactions both affect the level of the exchange rate and volatility. Our results also show that around pre-scheduled data releases the one-way transactions move the exchange rate more than under normal circumstances. Furthermore we broadened the commonly used set of macroeconomic news, such as data on GDP, inflation etc., to include the communications of central bankers. The model including central bank communication can explain a considerable part of exchange rate changes.

This study offers some insight into indirect interbank forint/euro trading through transaction-level data from the dominant electronic trading platform used on this market. We provide an in-depth view of the structure and liquidity of interbank foreign exchange trading by using simple, descriptive statistics. Where feasible, the results are placed into an international context. According to our findings, the key structural attributes of the Hungarian foreign exchange market are similar to those of the more advanced markets, despite the significantly lower level of trading volume and other indicators of market liquidity. Trading intensity and liquidity show large variations, both intra-day and between days. Our statistics suggest that the market has become more advanced, more liquid and has grown deeper during the period under review.

Az utóbbi időben a főbb jegybankok intervenciós tevékenysége csökkent ugyan, de számos feltörekvő, illetve inflációs célt követő ország esetében az intervenció továbbra is aktív jegybanki eszköz maradt. A tanulmány a jegybanki devizapiaci intervenció hatékonyságával foglalkozó szakirodalmat tekinti át. Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) kód: E58, F31, G15., Although recent years have seen a decline in major central banks FX market activity, such intervention has remained an active policy tool in several emerging economies and/ or countries applying inflation targeting. The paper surveys the literature on its effective-ness, presenting relevant theories and international empirical evidence and trying to identify aspects that increase effectiveness under various circumstances. Only cautious conclu-sions can be drawn. Central-bank intervention can be effective, mainly because FX activity by central banks can shape market expectations and influence the process of information aggregation. The effectiveness can be improved by matching objectives with appropriate intervention techniques and matching intervention strategy to circumstances in a flexible way. Intervention aiming at delivering strategic policy objectives is likely to be more efficient if pre-announced, transparent, coordinated with other central banks, and in line with macroeconomic policy. But to reach tactical objectives, central banks should conduct intervention in secret, paying heed to timing, around macro news announcements or during heavy trading volume. Central bankers should keep in mind that intervention - regardless of the chosen technique - affects the exchange rate mainly in the short or medium run. A more permanent shift in exchange rates calls for a change in fundamentals such as monetary-policy action.

We investigate the relation between the EUR/HUF exchange rate on the one hand and news announcements and order flow on the other hand using intraday data. We extend the existing literature on foreign exchange market microstructure by considering a small open transition economy. We find that the intraday exchange rate – independent from whether we focus on the mean or the volatility – depends on both news announcements and order flow. We conclude that news on the EUR/HUF market are transmitted directly via immediate reactions to news announcements as well as indirectly via order flow. We decompose the news’ total effect on exchange rate and find that order flow accounts for approximately three quarters, compared to one quarter for direct news impact. Although the HUF has been pegged to the EUR, the exchange rate reacts qualitatively very similarly to exchange rates of major currencies as reported in the literature, but quantitatively we observe a remarkable difference: the share of the indirect channel is higher on the EUR/HUF market. Furthermore we extend the commonly used news by communication of central bankers and significantly improve the explanatory power of the regressions. Our results imply that macroeconomic and microstructure variables together can explain a non-negligible part of high frequency exchange rate movements and central bank communication is an important determinant of the EUR/HUF rate.
