The traditional dual differential luminance algorithm was influenced by the surrounding environment, and was not applicable to accurate detection at night. In view of the interference factors of reality, this paper improved the dual differential luminance algorithm by using the method of amending coefficient. Meanwhile, combined with the traffic emergency control measures under different visibility, ten detection modes were subdivided. The next, an experimental system was built in the Meteorological Observatory of Beijing, and the detection software was developed. At last, the experimental data was compared with the correlation values of scatterometer. The results show that the detection accuracies are raised, and the optimized algorithm and system can be used for highway network visibility detection.

People's travel and traffic safety are affected by low visibility. With the development of transportation in recent years, the detection of license plate area under low visibility has become one of the hot topics of research. This article studies the license plate detection under low visibility based on video images. The research content is divided into two parts: defogging and license plate inspection. First of all, the collected image is processed in grayscale, the related defogging coefficient is set, and the dark channel algorithm is used to remove the fog component in the image, which greatly improves the clarity of the image. Second, using the top hat calculation related theory, combined with the image edge extraction, opening and closing operation steps to detect the license plate area. Finally with the help of MATLAB software for test verification, the results show that the algorithm has a good detection effect.

Background In order to better understand the possible role of fungi in giant panda reproduction and overall health, it is important to provide a baseline for the normal fungal composition in the reproductive system. Using morphology and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence analysis, we systematically isolated and identified fungal species from the vagina, foreskin, and semen of 21 (11 males and 10 females) healthy giant pandas to understand the normal fungal flora of the genital tracts. Results A total of 76 fungal strains were obtained, representing 42 genera and 60 species. Among them 47 fungal strains were obtained from vaginal samples, 24 from foreskins, and 5 from semen samples. Several fungal strains were isolated from more than one sample. More fungal species were isolated from females from males. The predominant genera were Aspergillus, Trichosporon, and Penicillium, followed by Candida, Cladosporium, Sordariomycetes, and Diaporthe. The average number of strains in the female vagina was significantly higher than in the foreskin and semen of male. Conclusions A total of 60 fungal species (belonging to 42 genera) were identified in the giant panda’s genital tract. Some of the species were commonly shared in both males and females. These findings provide novel information on the fungal community in the reproductive tracts of giant pandas.

This paper presents a new recognition algorithm for plant pathology images based on the Non-negative Matrix Factorization, the proposed algorithm is combined with optimal wavelet packet basis to recognize patterns and conduct data encoding in the internet of things oriented intelligent agricultural system. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed recognition algorithm is far better than those of the principal component analysis and linear discriminant analysis, and the recognition rate are improved, on average, about 14.65% and 11.18% higher than the rates of the above algorithms respectively. The presented algorithm is characterized by the fast speed, high calculation accuracy and easy hardware implementation.

We report here a clinical case of phaeohyphomycosis in an 18-year-old male giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). Skin lesions on the giant panda disappeared following 2 months of treatment with ketoconazole. Three months after discontinuing the treatment, there was a clinical and mycological relapse. The disease progression was no longer responsive to ketoconazole. Microscopy and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis revealed that the infection was caused by Cladosporium cladosporioides. A 4-month treatment regime with Itraconazole oral solution (700 mg per day) successfully terminated the infection.

The Grenville Front Tectonic Zone (GFTZ) is a polyphase deformation belt in the northwest of the Grenville Province which was shaped in the continent-continent-collision-induced Grenvillian Orogeny. This thesis focuses on the evolution of deformation fabrics in the GFTZ between the Sudbury Basin and French River in Ontario, Canada. Geological mapping using a new digital mapping system was conducted within this segment of the GFTZ, in its northwest vicinity in the Southern Province, and in its southeast vicinity in the Grenville Province. The new digital mapping system includes a personal digital assistant equipped with an internal GPS and a mobile GIS mapping software, and the ArcGIS software, which together worked seamlessly in the whole mapping process. Mapping in Whitefish Falls in the Southern Province enables us to identify two generations of folds in the Gowganda Formation of the Huronian Supergroup. The first generation is explained by bedding-parallel shear perhaps in a fold-and-thrust belt system in the Penokean Orogeny between 1850 and 1830 Ma. The second generation folds are km-to-tens-of-km-scale folds which compose the fold belt of the Penokean Orogeny. Mapping in the Grenville Province allows us to establish three phases of deformation which correspond respectively to a mid- to lower crustal sub-horizontal flow in a thickened crust, a regional folding during the NW-SE lithosphere extension, and a NW-SE crustal shortening and top-to-the-NW thrusting. The GFTZ underwent all three phases of deformation. Regional structural correlation and zircon dating suggest that the three phases of deformation occurred during 1079-1030 Ma, 1028-1018 Ma, and 1000-953 Ma respectively. Mylonite zones were developed at the NW margin of the GFTZ. Detailed structural analysis of deformation fabrics within and in the vicinity of the mylonite zones south of Coniston, Ontario, Canada shows that these mylonite zones were developed in the third deformation phase accompanying the development of at least one generation of folds in the GFTZ. Although kinematics of many mylonite zones has been “quantified” by various vorticity analysis methods in the literature, none of these methods is adopted here. Numerical modeling was used to investigate these methods, and it was found that current vorticity analysis methods have uncertainties too large for them to be useful.

The concept, Traffic Calming, was introduced to China nearly more than 10 years ago. However, no engineering practice emerges for a long time. As a typical small rural town for tour in Beijing, Zhaitang Town requires more attention on the beautiful site and pedestrian safety. In 2008, Beijing Mentougou Highway Sub-bureau decided to change the reconstruction of Zhaitang Avenue into a pilot engineering project of traffic calming. According with the research results of the traffic features in Zhaitang, the combination of mainly physical measures that reduce the negative effects of motor vehicle use, alter driver behavior and improve conditions for non-motorized street users were applied, such as Speed Humps, Raised Crosswalks, Raised Intersections, Speed Cushions, Roundabouts, Chicanes, Neckdowns, Center Island Narrowings, Lateral Shifts, Median Diverters, Boom Barrier, Pedestrian Refuges, and so on. After a half year observation, the before-andafter data of the first traffic calming engineering project has been achieved. The principles, methods, techniques to set traffic calming facilities resulted from the project and the outcome evaluation are described in the paper.

Based on the survey and analysis of current status of VMS systems application in China, this paper makes innovative study on the information disseminating strategies of Intelligent Motorway Fog Information Dissemination System (IMFIDS) via connected VMS, and then brings forward detailed strategies for two conditions: road opening but visibility under 200 meters and road closed down respectively. The strategies have been demonstrated in the pilot project - Huning Motorway Fog Semiautomatic Information Dissemination System.

Thermally induced transformation fatigue experiments of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuator wires are performed under different heat treatment conditions and different stress levels. The effect of various heat treatment conditions on the thermal transformation fatigue life of Ti-Ni-Cu (K-alloy) SMA wires is analyzed first and the optimal heat treatment condition is found. Results are then presented for the plastic strain accumulation as a function of the number of cycles to failure for different stress levels, and a relationship similar to the Manson-Coffin law is considered. Finally, fatigue results for partial phase transformation cycles are discussed.

Soil is an essentially limited natural resource that natural and human-induced processes have both generated and damaged. Soil degradation has become one of the most crucial socio-economic and environmental problems since it produces deterioration in productivity and quality of soil resources. Soil erosion, a natural phenomenon that causes degradation of soil and, curves the soil surface away from natural physical forces. To reveal the main factors influencing the spatial distribution of soil erosion in the small watershed of the Loess Plateau, the present study has investigated the synergistic as well as the independent influence of land use, vegetation coverage, and slope on the spatial distribution characteristics of soil erosion in the Wangdonggou watershed in 2015. Soil samples have been collected and analyzed in the laboratory together with high-resolution satellite imagery and meteorological data and derived data from digital elevation model (DEM). The results have shown that soil erosion in Wangdonggou watershed in 2015 has been characterized by a slight erosion, highlighting a gradually increased intensity from North to South. Among different land-uses, woodland and grassland have caused more than 50% soil erosion in the study area, and the areas with vegetation coverage of ≥ 50% have been the main source of soil erosion, and they have been all affected by slope. Furthermore, the practice of expanding vege- tation presence on the lower coverage of woodland and grassland, particularly where the slope is between 15◦ ~45◦ , and converting sloping woodland and grassland to the terrace have seemed to be effective strategies for controlling soil erosion in the Wangdonggou watershed. Finally, the current study has revealed that the RUSLE- GIS integrated model could be a useful tool to quantitatively and spatially map soil erosion at the watershed scale in the Loess Plateau, taking into account the provision of landscape services.
