A deterministic Extreme Value Analysis method is of particular importance in an engineering-oriented context. In this paper, three extreme value analysis (EVA) methods, in which annual maxima, monthly maxima or the Peaks-Over-Threshold are fitted into Generalized Extreme Value distribution (GEV) function or Generalized Pareto distribution (GP) function, are used to estimate return values of significant wave height. Sensitivity of return levels on water depth and sampling length is vigorously investigated, based on a 40-year long and high-resolution wave hindcast for the South Yellow Sea (SYS). A spatially-and-temporally varied POT sampling method combined with GP function produces most conservative and confident estimates of return levels for a large return period, but produces wider confidence level than the other two EVA approaches based on GEV function for short return period. In the SYS, the return level estimates are significantly reduced with a longer sample length. However, we find that the reduction is closely related to the long-term trend in extreme wave heights, rather than due to the sampling effect. From deep to shallow waters, spatial inhomogeneity of return levels increases, which should be considered in the engineering practice.

Background: Thyroid dysgenesis (TD) is the most frequent cause of congenital hypothyroidism (CH), but its pathogenesis remains unclear. As a thyroid transcription factor, paired box transcription factor 8 (PAX8) is essential for thyroid organogenesis and development. Aim: To screen PAX8 mutations and characterize the features of these mutations in Chinese TD patients. Materials and methods: Blood samples were collected from 63 TD patients in Shandong Province, China, and genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes. Exon 3~4 of PAX8 were analyzed by PCR and direct sequencing. Results: Direct sequencing of PAX8 revealed a heterozygous missense mutation (c.155G/C, P.Arg52Pro) in one child with agenesis. Genetic screening of the child’s family revealed that the clinically unaffected parents do not carry the mutation, suggesting that the identified sequence change is a de novo mutation. Conclusion: We report a heterozygous missense de novo mutation in PAX8 in one out of 63 unrelated Chinese TD patients, showing that the PAX8 mutation rate is very low in TD patients in China. However, de novo mutation and epigenetic mechanisms need to be considered in the future study.

This article is based on “Frustration-Misbehaving†research paradigm, combined with the information dissemination motivation theory, discusses that the fitness between the consumers and the crisis will promote consumers' dysfunctional customer behavior. The study found that the fitness between the consumers and the crisis has significant effect on consumers' dysfunctional customer behavior, perceived social damage has a mediator effect between fitness and consumers' misbehavior, and the moderating effect of consumers' aggression tendency is significant, but not the emotional tendency. The theoretical contribution and valuable implications of findings for communication of crisis management are discussed at last.

We propose a topological understanding of the quantum spin Hall state without considering any symmetries, and it follows from the gauge invariance that either the energy gap or the spin spectrum gap needs to close on the system edges, the former scenario generally resulting in counterpropagating gapless edge states. Based upon the Kane-Mele model with a uniform exchange field and a sublattice staggered confining potential near the sample boundaries, we demonstrate the existence of such gapless edge states and their robust properties in the presence of impurities. The control of subway train must fulfill some demands, such as safety, punctuality, comfort, energy-efficient, stop precision and so on. In this paper, maximum principle and fuzzy control are applied to the control of train operation to design a high-performance algorithm. As the result of tests, we verified that the proposed algorithm could fulfill demands. First of all, based on the productions of foreign scholars, an algorithm of aim as energy-saving is developed applying the conclusions of maximum principle with regardless of comfortable-ride demand. Then itpsilas discussed that how comfort demand affects the algorithm. In the end, fuzzy controller is applied to achieve the comfort object. The algorithm has already used in the train running simulation.
