Intestinal aging seriously affects the absorption of nutrients of the aged people. Ginsenoside Rb1 (GRb1) which has multiple functions on treating gastrointestinal disorders is one of the important ingredients from Ginseng, the famous herb in tradition Chinese medicine. However, it is still unclear if GRb1 could improve intestinal aging. To investigate the function and mechanism of GRb1 on improving intestinal aging, GRb1 was administrated to 104-week-old C57BL/6 mice for 6 weeks. The jejunum, colon and feces were collected for morphology, histology, gene expression and gut microbiota tests using H&E staining, X-gal staining, qPCR, Western blot, immunofluorescence staining, and 16S rDNA sequencing technologies. The numbers of cells reduced and the accumulation of senescent cells increased in the intestinal crypts of old mice, and administration of GRb1 could reverse them. The protein levels of CLDN 2, 3, 7, and 15 were all decreased in the jejunum of old mice, and administration of GRb1 could significantly increase them. The expression levels of Tert, Lgr5, mKi67, and c-Myc were all significantly reduced in the small intestines of old mice, and GRb1 significantly increased them at transcriptional or posttranscriptional levels. The protein levels of SIRT1, SIRT3, and SIRT6 were all reduced in the jejunum of old mice, and GRb1 could increase the protein levels of them. The 16S rDNA sequencing results demonstrated the dysbiosis of the gut microbiota of old mice, and GRb1 changed the composition and functions of the gut microbiota in the old mice. In conclusion, GRb1 could improve the intestinal aging via regulating the expression of Sirtuins family and modulating the gut microbiota in the aged mice.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) is an emerging coronavirus that belongs to the β genus, causing the outbreak of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID‐19). SARS‐CoV‐2 infection can stimulate a pronounced immune response in the host, which embodies in the decrease of lymphocytes and aberrant increase of cytokines in COVID‐19 patients. SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA and proteins interact with various pattern recognition receptors that switch on antiviral immune responses to regulate viral replication and spreading within the host in vivo. However, overactive and impaired immune responses also cause immune damage and subsequent tissue inflammation. This article focuses on the dual roles of immune system during SARS‐CoV‐2 infection, providing a theoretical basic for identifying therapeutic targets in a situation with an unfavorable immune reaction.

Window behaviour is a key driver of energy consumption and has a significant impact on occupant comfort. This study investigated patterns and drivers of window behaviour in a student halls of residence using a mixed-method approach. Twenty-one occupants of Mayflower Halls in Southampton have taken part in the study over the summer of 2017. Occupant surveys include a background interview and a weekly survey (for 6 consecutive weeks) with questions on their perception of the indoor environment as well as a self-reported use of the building controls available in occupant’s rooms (e.g. windows, curtain). The environmental monitoring recorded air temperature, relative humidity and window movement. The results showed that a large percentage of participants (67%) were dissatisfied with the ventilation, thermal conditions and noise in their rooms, and would prefer to have more air movement. To address these issues, the paper suggests a series of recommendations for building management and retrofit options.

Proxy re-encryption (PRE) allows a semi-trusted proxy to convert a ciphertext originally intended for Alice into an encryption of the same message intended for Bob. Song Luo, Jianbin Hu, and Zhong Chen presented a novel ciphertext policy attribute-based proxy re-encryption (CP-AB-PRE) scheme. The ciphertext policy realized in their scheme is AND-gates policy supporting multi-value attributes, negative attributes and wildcards. We propose a new access policies based on LSSS matrix access structures. Our scheme still have the properties of both PRE and CP-AB-PRE, such as unidirectionality, non-interactivity, multi-use, allows the encryptor to decide whether the ciphertext can be re-encrypted and allows the proxy to add access policy. In actual application environment such as industry and architecture, usually there are some work pieces to carry and transfer. The manipulator control system designed in this paper consists of the single chip C8051F021 and the Programmable Logic Device (CPLD). The manipulator has the functions such as operating both automatically and manually, monitoring the voltage of the battery, alarming and so on. This paper mainly presented the structure and function of the manipulator and the control method of the circuit. And the motor control module and the battery voltage monitoring module are also described. Finally, the communication part and the software programming part of the system are presented. The experiment result shows that this control system reaches the expected purpose and can be widely applied to the industry field.

Objective. Our objective was to compare the osteoclastogenic capacity of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with osteoarthritis (OA) to that of PBMCs from self-reported normal individuals. Methods. PBMCs from 140 patients with OA and 45 healthy donors were assayed for CD14+ expression and induced to differentiate into osteoclasts (OCs) over 3 weeks in vitro. We assessed the number of the OCs, their resorptive activity, OC apoptosis, and expression of the following cytokine receptors: receptor activator of nuclear factor κB (RANK), interleukin-1 receptor type I (IL-1R1) and IL-1R2. A ridge logistic regression classifier was developed to discriminate OA patients from controls. Results. PBMCs from OA patients gave rise to more OCs that resorbed more bone surface than did PBMCs from controls. The number of CD14+ precursors was comparable in both groups, but there was less apoptosis in OCs obtained from OA patients. Although no correlation was found between osteoclastogenic capacity and clinical or radiologic scores, levels of IL-1R1 were significantly lower in cultures from patients with OA compared to controls. OC apoptosis and expression levels of IL-1R1 and IL-1R2 were used to build a multivariate predictive model for OA. Conclusion. During 3 weeks of culture under identical conditions, monocytes from patients with OA display enhanced capacity to generate OCs compared to cells from controls. Enhanced osteoclastogenesis is accompanied by increased resorptive activity, reduced OC apoptosis and diminished IL-1R1 expression. These findings support the possibility that generalized changes in bone metabolism affecting OCs participate in the pathophysiology of OA.
