Aims: This work was designed to identify the subgroup of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients for whom treatments containing immune checkpoint blockers (ICBs) were most effective. Materials & methods: A meta-analysis was performed to explore the subgroup population with the greatest benefit of treatments containing ICBs. Results: A total of 2228 patients from four randomized control trials were included. Treatments containing ICBs had better overall survival, progression-free survival and higher objective response rate over treatment without ICBs. Subgroup analysis revealed that treatments containing ICBs were highly effective in improving the overall survival of males, patients with macrovascular invasion and/or extrahepatic spread and viral-related HCC patients. Conclusion: Treatments containing ICBs are more effective for males, patients with macrovascular invasion and/or extrahepatic spread and viral-related HCC patients.

To improve the prediction accuracy of the port cargo throughput and the applicability of the prediction model, and then provide data support for the port construction to meet the needs of port decision-making, take the monthly cargo throughput data of Shanghai Port from January 2009 to December 2022 as an example, use Pearson correlation analysis to screen 12 import and export impact factors. This paper improves the traditional SVM model, uses SSA (Sparrow Search Algorithm) to optimize the parameters c and g in SVM, and uses the model to predict. Compared with the model that uses the grid search algorithm to optimize the parameters of SVM, the model has a significant improvement in fitting and robustness, its predicted value is closer to the actual value, the prediction performance is better, and it can better reflect the actual state of the port.

This paper presents a novel 3-D-printed circularly polarized (CP) open-ended waveguide (OEW) antenna array. It aims to provide a lightweight scheme for OEW array design and concurrently address the high fabrication complexity problem of conventional OEW arrays. To realize these, the proposed design adopts dielectric 3-D printing technology to build the main body of the array and employs electroplating to form the waveguide walls. To attain CP radiation, an in-built antipodal exponential groove polarizer is proposed and applied to a square waveguide. With the perturbation of the grooves, degenerate modes T E 10 and T E 01 can be excited simultaneously, and their differential phase can be 90 degrees, resulting in CP radiation. Moreover, a novel matching cube based on effective medium theory (EMT) is proposed for the antenna to mitigate the reflections at the waveguide aperture and therefore realize good impedance matching. To validate the design idea, prototypes for a single element and a 2 × 2 array were fabricated and measured. Experimental results show that their weights are 15 and 76 grams, and their axial ratio bandwidths (ARBWs) are 16% (5.45-6.4 GHz) and 11.1% (5.52-6.17 GHz), respectively.

The human receptor preference and efficient replication in mice without prior adaption highlight that the H3N8 virus possesses the public threat potential.

In recent years, some nanosystems for malignancy treatment have received considerable attention. In this study, we prepared caramelized nanospheres (CNSs) loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) and Fe3O4 to achieve the synergistic effect of combined therapy and real-time magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) monitoring, so as to improve the diagnosis and therapeutic effect of TNBC.Methods: CNSs with biocompatibility and unique optical properties were prepared by hydrothermal method, DOX and Fe3O4 were loaded on it to obtain Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs nanosystem. Characteristics including morphology, hydrodynamic size, zeta potentials and magnetic properties of Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs were evaluated. The DOX release was evaluated by different pH/near-infrared (NIR) light energy. Biosafety, pharmacokinetics, MRI and therapeutic treatment of Fe3O4@CNSs, DOX and Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs were examined in vitro or in vivo.Results: Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs has an average particle size of 160 nm and a zeta potential of 27.5mV, it demonstrated that Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs is a stable and homogeneous dispersed system. The hemolysis experiment of Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs proved that it can be used in vivo. Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs displayed high photothermal conversion efficiency, extensive pH/heat-induced DOX release. 70.3% DOX release is observed under the 808 nm laser in the pH = 5 PBS solution, obviously higher than pH = 5 (50.9%) and pH = 7.4 (less than 10%). Pharmacokinetic experiments indicated the t1/2β, and AUC0–t of Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs were 1.96 and 1.31 -fold higher than those of DOX solution, respectively. Additionally, Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs with NIR had the greatest tumor suppression in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, this nanosystem demonstrated distinct contrast enhancement on T2 MRI to achieve real-time imaging monitoring during treatment.Conclusion: Fe3O4/DOX@CNSs is a highly biocompatible, double-triggering and improved DOX bioavailability nanosystem that combines chemo-PTT and real-time MRI monitoring to achieve integration of diagnosis and treatment of TNBC.Keywords: caramelized nanotheranostic system, combining chemo-photothermal therapy, magnetic resonance imaging monitoring, double-triggering, triple negative breast cancer

Fatty liver (FL) is reportedly a risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in individuals affected with Hepatitis C (HCV) or B (HBV) virus. However, the results are contradictory, necessitating a meta-analysis. Sixteen relevant studies involving 88,618 individuals were retrieved from the Cochrane Library, PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus databases from their inception to 10 December 2022. The hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were analyzed. Liver biopsy-proven FL may be a significant risk factor for HCC in individuals affected with HBV (univariate analyses: HR = 3.13, 95% CI = 1.69–5.79; multivariate analyses: HR = 3.42, 95% CI = 0.83–14.09) as well as HCV (univariate analyses: HR = 1.64, 95% CI = 0.93–2.90; multivariate analyses: HR = 1.75, 95% CI = 1.02–3.00). However, the presence of FL confirmed using reasonable methods other than liver biopsy may not indicate a risk for HCC in HBV-infected individuals (univariate analyses: HR = 0.90, 95% CI = 0.44–1.81; multivariate analyses: HR = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.45–1.08). Biopsy-proven FL may be a significant risk factor for HCC in HCV/HBV-infected individuals. Thus, such individuals should receive suitable interventions to prevent HCC formation or at least attenuate the risk of HCC.

A protocol for high intermediate precision Sm isotope measurements.

To identify key pathological hub genes, micro RNAs (miRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs) of osteoporosis (OP) and construct their ceRNA network in an effort to explore the potential biomarkers and drug targets for OP therapy.GSE7158, GSE201543, and GSE161361 microarray datasets were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by comparing OP patients with healthy controls and hub genes were screened by machine learning algorithms. Target miRNAs and circRNAs were predicted by FunRich and circbank, then ceRNA network were constructed by Cytoscape. Pathways affecting OP were identified by functional enrichment analysis. The hub genes were verified by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and real time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Potential drug molecules related to OP were predicted by DSigDB database and molecular docking was analyzed by autodock vina software.A total of 179 DEGs were identified. By combining three machine learning algorithms, BAG2, MME, SLC14A1, and TRIM44 were identified as hub genes. Three OP-associated target miRNAs and 362 target circRNAs were predicted to establish ceRNA network. The ROC curves showed that these four hub genes had good diagnostic performance and their differential expression was statistically significant in OP animal model. Benzo[a]pyrene was predicted which could successfully bind to protein receptors related to the hub genes and it was served as the potential drug molecules.An mRNA-miRNA-circRNA network is reported, which provides new ideas for exploring the pathogenesis of OP. Benzo[a]pyrene, as potential drug molecules for OP, may provide guidance for the clinical treatment.

The topography of the Tianshan Mountains and the Pamir Plateau strongly shapes the seasonality of precipitation in Central Asia (CA): cold-season (October-April) precipitation dominates western CA and warm-season (May-September) precipitation dominates eastern CA. The precipitation/moisture patterns between western and eastern CA are completely opposite at seasonal, decadal and centennial scale. However, the pattern contrasts for millennial or longer time scales remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the precipitation variations in western CA, as recorded in a 6.5-m loess section in southern Kazakhstan, which has accumulated since ~14.4 ka. According to the robust relationship between the surface soil organic matter δ13C and the climatic parameters, the δ13C signature is here considered as a precipitation proxy. The record reveals an overall decreasing precipitation before ~6.0 ka followed by an increasing trend afterward, being consistent with the previously reported precipitation records in western CA. The late-deglaciation precipitation in western CA is in phase with that in eastern CA at millennial scales, which are both driven by the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the Siberian High.

Delayed sleep-wake phase disorder (DSWPD) is common and easily misdiagnosed in young people, and to date, there is no evidence-based treatment.A nonblinded randomized controlled study evaluated the effect of agomelatine therapy (AT) and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) on DSWPD in young adults.Sixty adolescents and young adults (range = 19-24 years, mean = 22 years, 52% female) diagnosed with DSWPD were randomized to receive 4 weeks of agomelatine therapy with or without cognitive behavior therapy. Sleep diaries, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and World Health Organization wellbeing questionnaire (WHO-5) were measured pre-treatment and post-treatment.Agomelatine therapy for 4 weeks shifted the sleep-wake rhythm (The improvements were received largely through the sleep-promoting effects of agomelatine therapy, and combining with cognitive behavior therapy on maintenance of altered sleep rhythms might be feasible.

The SCHOLAR-5 study examines treatment patterns and outcomes of real-world follicular lymphoma (FL) patients on 3rd line of treatment (LoT) or higher, for whom existing data are limited. SCHOLAR-5 is a retrospective cohort study using data from adults (≥ 18 years) with grade 1-3a FL, initiating ≥3rd LoT after June 2014 at major lymphoma centers in the United States (US) and Europe. Objective response rate (ORR), complete response (CR), progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed by LoT. Time-to-event outcomes were assessed using Kaplan-Meier methods. Of 128 patients, 87 initiated 3rd LoT, 63 initiated 4th LoT, and 47 initiated 5th LoT. At 1st eligible LoT, 31% progressed within 24-months of 1st LoT anti-CD20 combination therapy, 28% had prior autologous stem-cell transplantation, and 31% were refractory to the previous LoT. The most common regimen in each LoT was chemoimmunotherapy; however, experimental drugs were increasingly used at later LoTs. In the US, anti-CD20 monotherapy was more common at ≥3rd LoT compared to Europe, where stem cell transplants were more common. ORR at 3rd LoT was 68% (CR 44%), but decreased after each LoT to 37% (CR 22%) in ≥5 LoT. Median OS and PFS at 3rd LoT were 68 and 11 months, respectively, and reduced to 43 and 4 months at ≥5 LoT. Treatments were heterogenous at each LoT in both the US and Europe. Few FL patients achieved complete response in later LoT, and duration of response and survival diminished with each subsequent line.

The global climate shows an obvious warming trend, and the impact on water resources is increasing. Abrupt temperature change and warming hiatus are two important states of temperature change. The quantitative impacts of temperature change and warming hiatus on surface runoff remain unclear. Based on the measured runoff data from 60 representative hydrological stations in China from 1956 to 2016 and the Water Balance Model developed by the Research Center for Climate Change (RCCC-WBC), this paper analyzes the quantitative impacts of abrupt temperature change and warming hiatus on surface runoff. The results showed that the effects of three types of abrupt temperature changes on runoff in different basins in China are significantly different. The effects of abrupt temperature changes and warming stagnation on runoff in northern China are greater than those in southern China, and the effects of abrupt temperature changes and warming stagnation on runoff in the upper, middle, and lower reaches of the same basin are also different. Before the abrupt change in temperature, the influence of temperature on the surface runoff was less than 9%, and the influence of temperature on the runoff in some southern areas was weaker, only affecting less than 3% of the runoff. When the temperature changes abruptly, the influence of air temperature on the surface runoff in a small part of the arid region is up to 30%. The abrupt change in mean maximum temperature has both positive and negative driving effects on runoff in China, and the negative driving effect is concentrated in the areas with abrupt warming, affecting about 8% of the runoff on average. The average influence of abrupt mean temperature change on runoff in China is about 10%, and the area with a large influence on runoff change is concentrated in the area north of 40° N. The abrupt change in temperature in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River Basin has a great influence on the runoff change, up to 13%. The maximum impact of abrupt mean minimum temperature on runoff is concentrated in Northeast China, ranging from 9% to 12%. During the period of temperature stagnation, air temperature and runoff showed an obvious reverse trend. During this period, the average negative influence of drastic changes in air temperature on runoff was about 15%, but precipitation and runoff still maintained a good consistency, which may be due to the effect of other influencing factors which offset the negative driving effect of air temperature.

Enhancing visual qualities for underexposed images is an extensively concerned task that plays important roles in various areas of multimedia and computer vision. Most existing methods often fail to generate high-quality results with appropriate luminance and abundant details. To address these issues, we in this work develop a novel framework, integrating both knowledge from physical principles and implicit distributions from data to solve the underexposed image correction task. More concretely, we propose a new perspective to formulate this task as an energy-inspired model with advanced hybrid priors. A propagation procedure navigated by the hybrid priors is well designed for simultaneously propagating the reflectance and illumination toward desired results. We conduct extensive experiments to verify the necessity of integrating both underlying principles (i.e., with knowledge) and distributions (i.e., from data) as navigated deep propagation. Plenty of experimental results of underexposed image correction demonstrate that our proposed method performs favorably against the state-of-the-art methods on both subjective and objective assessments. Additionally, we execute the task of face detection to further verify the naturalness and practical value of underexposed image correction. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), a common disease with a complex etiology in the world, is an important risk factor for severe cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, treatments of T2DM are mainly based on Western medicine, whose severe side effects make traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy more appealing to patients and clinicians. The overall clinical evidence for different TCM therapies in the treatment of T2DM is still unclear. This study aimed to adopt the evidence-mapping method and integrate the evidence from various researches on this topic, to depict the whole picture of TCM therapies for T2DM. This review included searches of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and three major Chinese literature databases (CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang) from inception to November 18, 2021. Two independent reviewers screened the literature, extracted information, and evaluated the quality of all included studies. A systematic review was subsequently performed. In total, 47 studies were reviewed, of which 46 studies (97.9%) were from China and 1 (2.1%) was from Canada. The evidence map was conducted according to different TCM therapies, including herbs or herbal extracts, compounds, powders, decoctions, pills, external treatment, basic theories and treatment principles of TCM, proprietary Chinese medicines, and unspecified TCM integrated therapies. According to the AMSTAR-2 scoring results, 4 papers were rated as high quality, 11 were low quality, and 32 were very low quality. Outcome indicators mainly focused on FBG, HbA1c, 2-h PBG, TC, TG, LDL-C, etc. The results showed that different types of TCM treatment had different improvement effects on the outcome indicators of T2DM. More consistent benefits were observed in the improvement of FBG, HbA1c, and 2-h PBG with treatment regimens based on basic theories and treatment principles of TCM, decoctions and pills, and unspecified TCM integrated therapies. Among herbs, ginger and Coptis root showed more improvement in all outcomes. Compounds, powders, and external treatment showed relatively consistent beneficial effects on the improvement of FBG. No serious adverse events were reported. Overall, the current evidence map provided an intuitive overview of the beneficial effects of TCM therapies in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. This study can be used as a reference for the clinical application of traditional Chinese medicine in T2DM, but due to the low-quality level of the included studies, it should be treated with caution in clinical practices.

High-performance osmotic energy conversion requires both large ionic throughput and high ionic selectivity, which can be significantly promoted by exterior surface charges simultaneously, especially for short nanopores. Here, we investigate the enhancement of ionic diffusion by charged exterior surfaces under various conditions and explore corresponding effective charged areas. From simulations, ionic diffusion is promoted more significantly by exterior surface charges through nanopores with a shorter length, wider diameter, and larger surface charge density, or under higher salt gradients. Effective widths of the charged ring regions near nanopores are reversely proportional to the pore length and linearly dependent on the pore diameter, salt gradient, and surface charge density. Due to the important role of effective charged areas in the propagation of ionic diffusion through single nanopores to cases with porous membranes, our results may provide useful guidance to the design and fabrication of porous membranes for practical high-performance osmotic energy harvesting., 24 Pages,5 figures

To explore the differentially expressed microRNAs (DEMs) in serum exosomes between gastric cancer (GC) patients and healthy people to provide new targets for GC diagnosis and treatment.DEMs in serum exosomes were screened by microarray analysis and verified by RT-qPCR. The target genes of DEMs were predicted using Targetscan and miRTarBase databases and then overlapped with the DEGs of STAD in TCGA database to obtain the common target genes. Biological function and pathway enrichment were analyzed using enrichr database, and a PPI network was constructed using STRING database. The potential target genes of DEMs were identified using the MCODE and cytoHubba plug-ins of Cytoscape software. Survival analysis were conducted using KMP and TCGA databases. The DEMs -target genes-pathways network was established using Cytoscape software. A Cox proportional hazards regression model formed by optimal target genes was used to access the reliability of this prediction process.Three serum exosomal microRNAs (exo-miRNAs, has-miR-1273 g-3p, has-miR-4793-3p, has-miR-619-5p) were identified to be highly expressed in GC patients and performed excellent diagnostic ability. A total of 179 common target genes related to GC were predicted. They were mainly involved in 79 GO functional annotations and 6 KEGG pathways. The prognostic model formed by eight optimal target genes (TIMELESS, DNA2, MELK, CHAF1B, DBF4, PAICS, CHEK1 and NCAPG2), which were low-risk genes of GC, also performed perfect prognostic ability.Serum exosomal has-miR-1273 g-3p, has-miR-4793-3p and has-miR-619-5p can be used as new diagnostic biomarkers for GC. Among them, serum exosomal hsa-miR-1273 g-3p / hsa-miR-4793-3p targets MELK and hsa-miR-619-5p targets NCAPG2 were identified as novel mechanisms involved in the development of GC. It provides new targets for the diagnosis and treatment of GC by exo-miRNAs.

In the past years, teachers have been made to assume that corrective feedback benefits students’ writing improvement. Corrective feedback as “any information provides information on the result of behaviour. However, a growing body of research has been reinvestigating the effectiveness of corrective feedback as a result of John Truscott’s claim of its inefficiency. This paper aims to expand the related study on written corrective feedback to find corrective feedback with a significant positive effect on students’ writing performance. This experimental study obtained the data from sixty-six homogeneous L2 students which were equally divided into three groups. The first group was given explicit correction feedback, the second group was given metalinguistic clue feedback, and the last group was the control group. The result showed that the explicit correction was more effective compared to metalinguistic but the fact that the participants tend to perform better even without receiving any correction made the small effect of explicit correction to be questioned.

The carbon and water cycle, an important biophysical process of terrestrial ecosystems, is changed by anthropogenic revegetation in arid and semiarid areas. However, there is still a lack of understanding of the mechanisms of carbon and water coupling in intrinsic ecosystems in the context of human activities. Based on the CO2 and H2O flux measurements of the desert steppe with the planted shrub Caragana liouana, this study explored the carbon and water flux coupling of the ecosystem by analyzing the variations in gross primary productivity (GPP), evapotranspiration (ET) and water use efficiency (WUE) and discussing the driving mechanisms of biological factors. The seasonal variation in climate factors induced a periodic variation pattern of biophysical traits and carbon and water fluxes. The GPP and ET fluctuated in seasons, but the WUE was relatively stable in the growing season. The GPP, ET and WUE were significantly driven by global radiation (Rg), temperature (Ta and Ts), water vapor pressure deficit, leaf area index and plant water stress index (PWSI). However, Rg, temperature and PWSI were the most important factors regulating WUE. Rg and temperature directly affected WUE with a positive effect but indirectly inhibited WUE by rising PWSI. Plant water stress inhibited photosynthesis and transpiration of the planted shrub community in the desert steppe. When the plant water stress exceeded a threshold (PWSI >0.54), the WUE would decrease since the GPP responded more quickly to the plant water stress than ET. Our findings suggest that policies related to large-scale carbon sequestration initiatives under afforestation must first fully consider the status of water consumption and WUE.

We present a simple yet effective method for constructing 3D self-supporting surfaces with planar quadrilateral (PQ) elements. Starting with a triangular discretization of a self-supporting surface, we first compute the principal curvatures and directions of each triangular face using a new discrete differential geometry approach, yielding more accurate results than existing methods. Then, we smooth the principal direction field to reduce the number of singularities. Next, we partition all faces into two groups in terms of principal curvature difference. For each face with small curvature difference, we compute a stretch matrix that turns the principal directions into a pair of conjugate directions. For the remaining triangular faces, we simply keep their smoothed principal directions. Finally, applying a mixed-integer programming solver to the mixed principal and conjugate direction field, we obtain a planar quadrilateral mesh. Experimental results show that our method is computationally efficient and can yield high-quality PQ meshes that well approximate the geometry of the input surfaces and maintain their self-supporting properties. With the development of smart justice in China, the Supreme People’s Court implements the system of compulsory retrieval for similar cases continuously and comprehensively, more and more judicial big data has been continuously disclosed, and the application of case retrieval is more extensive, and then, the accuracy of similar case search results needs to be urgently improved. Legal case retrieval is a special search task; for a given query case, it refers to the searching for similar cases. Different from traditional text search, legal case retrieval has different characteristics and greater challenges, for its query case is longer and more complex than common keyword queries and short article queries. In addition, the definition of dependencies between query cases and candidate cases differs from general dependencies based on text or topic. In order to solve these problems, we propose a method for similarity case retrieval based on the legal facts, and our model combine the topic distribution and legal entity facts to make the document representation vector more suitable for legal scenarios. At the same time, the method of paragraph aggregation based on BERT is used to encode context semantic information and solve the problem of long text. The experimental results show that our method is superior to the existing method.
