The instability of earth structures resting on granular materials, such as embankments and tailing dams, is caused by the infiltration of water which can lead to their failure. This paper presents the potential use of tyre crumbs for controlling the stability of structures made of sand. Constant shear drained experiments were carried out on mixtures of sand and tyre crumbs to understand the onset of instability. Conventional drained shear tests were carried out on all samples up to a deviator stress of 200 kPa. Tests were then carried out on the sheared samples by reducing the confining pressure until the onset of instability. This was determined by a drop in stress, by second-order work and by the strain ratio approach. The value of mean effective stress at instability was found to decrease with the addition of tyre crumbs to the mix of up to 20% and then increase with further addition of tyre crumbs. The strain ratio approach was found to predict the onset of instability easily and efficiently, similar to the second-order work method.

Abstract: The use of antibody-drug conjugates is expected to transform the management of human malignancy. Antibody-drug conjugates for cancer treatment are designed to deliver anticancer drugs to tumor cells. The main components of such conjugates are a monoclonal antibody that binds to a tumor antigen, an anticancer drug to inhibit tumor cell growth and a linker that serves to conjugate the anti-body and drug. The antibody-drug conjugates developed and approved for breast cancer treatment are ado-trastuzumab emtansine, (fam)-trastuzumab deruxtecan-nxki and sacituzumab govitecan. The mechanisms of action, clinical uses and toxic effects of these antibody-drug conjugates are discussed.

An upward rise has been observed in the pattern of unnatural deaths in the recent years and the same has been found during the post mortem examination. During the trial in the court of law prosecution as well as defense require the time passed death before examination and the cause of death in particular circumstances, as it is mandatory to fix the exact duration either to punish the guilty or NOT to punish the innocent. Vitreous humor is different from other body fluids as it has relative stability in its composition so as also biochemical parameters. It was further hypothesized that postmortem vitreous humor biochemistry closely mimics antemortem serum biochemistry and may be a useful aid in establishing postmortem diagnoses. Various studies have been carried out on vitreous electrolyte concentration changes to arrive at postmortem interval. Many workers found the importance of potassium in the determination of postmortem interval, whereas among all the biochemical parameters, vitreous potassium is found to be more useful to find out time since death. Postmortem biochemical analysis of vitreous humor may be helpful in the establishment of antemortem disease or metabolic disorder. The present study was carried out jointly in department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology and department of Biochemistry of Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER), Surat. A total of 100 subjects were taken up for this study. The samples were collected from dead bodies during postmortem examination with all aseptic precautions. A detailed performa was made with all the details of age, sex, length, weight and date and time of admission, date and time of death and manner of death such as suicide, homicide, sudden death and accidents was recorded. Cases below 15 years of age were not considered in this study. Out of 100 cases there were 24 (24%) females and 76 (76%) were males, out of these 56% were between 15-35 years, 32% were of 36-55 years, 9% were of 56-65 years, and 3% were of 66-77 years age group. According to the manner of death 50 subjects were of accident, 26 subjects were of sudden death, 21 subjects were of suicide and 3 subjects were of homicide. According to time interval between sample collection and time of death, 47 subjects were of 0-24 hours, 36 subjects were of 24-48 hours, 11 subjects were of 48-72 hours and 6 subjects were of 72-96 hours. In present study we observed that there is definitive correlation between time of death and changes in level of these biochemical parameters. This was a preliminary study in this region and can be considered as a pilot study. The levels of vitreous Potassium have been found to be significantly altered as the time progresses after death. A progressive decrease in sodium/potassium and increase in potassium/ calcium ratios was also observed.

The study is being conducted with the goal of applying various models and techniques for catchment delineation and providing the opportunity to determine the Curve Numbers (CN) for the Rawanduz river basin (2956 Km2), which is located in the northeastern section of Iraq, Kurdistan region, by utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS). Satellite data (Landsat 8 OLI) for 2020 was utilized to build land cover classes, with a classification accuracy of 90% and a Kappa index of 86.18%. The hydrologic soil map for the region is digitized from the Iraqi soil map. In specifically, Soil Conservation Service-Curve Number (SCS-CN) is technique that will be utilized to predict direct surface runoff. This technique incorporates a range of significant watershed features, such as Hydrological Soil Groups (HSG) and land use/land cover (LU/LC), to be utilized as input variables for numerous hydrologic processes. In terms of land use and hydrologic soil group combination, the lowest CN value was found to be 58 in forest areas, which corresponds to an increased ability of the soil to retain rainfall and will produce much less runoff, and the highest CN value was found to be 92 in medium-residential areas, which causes most of the rainfall to appear as runoff, with minimal losses.

Two novel cationic surfactants based on palmitic acid were prepared to extract uranium from its fluids. The chemical structures of the surfactants prepared were confirmed spectroscopically. The surface activity of these surfactants was evaluated by measuring their surface tension. The cationic surfactants prepared were also tested for their biological activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. Subsequently, an attempt was made to use these surfactants to remove uranium from the hydrous oxide cake produced after the alkaline degradation of monazite mineral concentrate. To achieve this goal, several experiments were conducted to determine the optimal conditions for uranium extraction and stripping. Under these optimal conditions, the experimental capacity fitted the pseudo-second order kinetic model. Under the investigated optimal stripping factors of 1 M NaCl, acidified with 0.2 M conc. H2SO4, an A:O ratio of 1:1 and a contact time of 15 min, an uranium stripping efficiency of 83% was obtained for the case study. After the complete stripping process, the marketable uranium concentrate was percipitated using hydrogen peroxide as UO4 H2O with an uranium content of approximately 76%, which was chemically determined and confirmed by EDAX analysis.

Human induced climate change is the largest most pervasive threat to the natural environment and societies the world has ever experienced. Arid ecosystem is more prone to such phenomenon. Deserts are most typically associated with soaring temperatures, permanently dry air, and endless rolling sand dunes. But in summer in “Thar” desert, it becomes so cold and freeze. The Thar desert climate refers to a specific type of climate that encompasses more than one weather type. But for last one decade its changing in a very different ways, i.e., Too hot in summer and too cold in winter. It is an alarming situation of climate change, where we can understand with this small example. In Churu district of north Rajasthan, where the sandy ground sizzles in the summers and the wind feels like a hot air boiler in the month of June. The temperatures in those months easily climb up to the high 400 Celsius. Just month, May 2020, the temperature rose to 500 Celsius – and was the highest in the world. Two years, when the mercury breached even the 510 Celsius marks in Churu in early June 2019 – more than halfway to the boiling point of water – for many it was a side bar. Six months later, by December-January in some years, Churu has seen just-below zero degrees Celsius temperatures. And in February 2020, the India Meteorological Department found the lowest minimum temperature in the plains of India to be in Churu, at 4.10 Celsius. In view of above the present study has been undertaken to deliberate the climate change impact in small desert town.

Urban land use change is a major issue globally. Land cover is a cover that covers any surface and the changes described include urban area land, water body, residential, forest land wasteland, agriculture, and recreation etc. The development of the built-up area separates the city limits.' (PA Khadke & RU Kharat 2017) Land use change plays a major role in the developmental activity of a developing country. Due to the rapid development of urbanization and the dramatically increasing population, fertile agricultural land has been converted into built-up area in relation to the need for housing and the need for infrastructure. The extent of open space and surface water bodies have also been encroached upon. Land use is derived from the human use of land and can be mainly classified into residential, agricultural, commercial use, industrial, etc. Land use and land cover changes are caused by socio-economic and natural factors. The increase in population as well as migration of people from rural to urban is the most important reason for land use change. (P. Sangardas, S. Ishwari, 2019). In the presented research paper, the study and analysis of land use change of Jodhpur city and its impact on economy and environment is to be done.

The human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone is a biomarker that can predict tumors and early pregnancy; however, it is challenging to develop sensitive qualitative-quantitative procedures that are also effective, inventive, and unique.

Marker assisted back crossing is reliable tool in selecting the heterozygotes in backcross generations. It quickens the selection process which would otherwise require an extra generation/season for raising the BCF2 seed for finding the recessive allele which needs to be phenotypically expressed. Therefore in the present study normal maize (BML-6and IML-187) and QPM donor lines (DQL-2029-1 and DQL-779-2-9) were genotyped at o2 locus using co-dominant SSR marker phi057. The marker allele size at 02 locus for normal parents was 155 bp in IML-187(P1) and 160 bp in BML-6(P2). 170bp in DQL-2029-1(P3) and DQL-779-2-9(P4) for QPM or donor parents. Based on this polymorphism crosses were made to generate F1 hybrids. IML-87 was crossed with DQL-2029-1 and BML-6 was crossed with DQL-779-2-9. Thus, based on polymorphism at the DNA level, biparental backcrosses were made to eventually combine o2 allele in the endosperm of normal maize. The two BC1F1 populations were genotyped at the opaque-2 locus using phi057 SSR marker. It was observed that out of 96 plants analyzed, 40 individuals were heterozygous at o2 locus in BC1F1 population derived from the cross BC1F1 (A) while 43 out of the 100 plant analyzed in cross BC1F1 (B) were heterozygous when screened with phi057 SSR marker. Marker Assisted backcrossing is a useful tool in trait introgression as it helps in pre-flowering elimination of negative plants as well as donor genome and need for selfing is eliminated in BCF1 s. SSR phi-057 was able to clearly distinguish between QPM and normal parents and detect heterozygous plants in the backcross progeny.

Nowadays, in the clinical, pharmaceutical, and environmental sectors, the development of facile and sensitive analytical methods and/or innovative devices for the follow-up and detection of antibiotics and pharmaceutical formulations, in general, are urgently needed and still challenging. This work declared three vital applications for broad-spectrum nitrofurantoin (macrofuran) antibiotic detection and quantification: A colorimetric method, a coated paper strip-based nano-lanthanum complex prototype and fabrication of smart electronic color sensor device-based coated paper strips. The colorimetric method showed a significant response upon increasing the concentration of the nitrofurantoin in a range between (1.0–100.0 ng/mL) via a visual color change from orange-yellow to red colors degree with detection and quantification limits of 0.175 and 0.53 ng/mL, respectively, whereas the nano-lanthanum complex coated paper strip prototype showed qualitative on-site sensing for nitrofurantoin via naked eye color changes which can be detected anywhere. Moreover, a smart prototype for detecting macrofuran in the means of paper color change in the RGB color component extraction algorithm and the grayscale projection value processing algorithm was fabricated. The change in RGB color on the coated paper strip was detected using an electronic color sensor device. The developed colorimetric method, coated paper strip, and the electronic color sensor device prototype exhibited fast, simple, costless, and selective towards macrofuran over the competing analyzed. The aim of the present study is to explore new selective anti-inflammatory compounds with low cardiovascular risk. Twelve thiadiazole derivatives incorporating different amino acid moieties were newly synthesized (4–15) as potential anti-inflammatory agents with low cardiovascular risks through dual COX-2/MPO inhibition. Compounds were initially screened for their anti-inflammatory effect by assay of COX-2, the most potent (4–6, 8) were further tested for COX-1 inhibition, myeloperoxidase MPO activity as well as total nitric oxide content NO in heart of irradiated rats. Cardiac toxicity potential was evaluated by assay of creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), troponin-I (Tn-I) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Celcoxcib was used as reference drug. S-(5-((4-Methoxybenzylidene)amino)-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)2-amino propanethioate (5) was the most potent anti-inflammatory with the least cardiotoxicity effect. It exhibited IC50 0.09 µM on COX-2 inhibition with very low activity on COX-1. Troponin I was elevated by 11% using compound 5 in non-irradiated rats. Moreover, compound (5) showed 73% reduction in MPO level. Results were supported by molecular docking into the active sites of COX-2 and MPO enzymes to have more insights about the possible dual inhibition of compound 5 of both enzymes.

Cross-sectional analyses of circular and square reinforced concrete (RC) columns strengthened with reactive powder concrete jacketing and fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) wrapping were undertaken. The stress block method was used to determine theoretical axial load–bending moment (AL–BM) interactions of the columns. These were then compared with experimental results and found to be in very good agreement. A parametric study was also undertaken to investigate the most important factors that influence the AL–BM capacity of circular and square strengthened columns. Finally, a group of theoretical AL–BM interactions for circular and square strengthened columns was produced. These can be used in a wide range of applications for strengthening RC columns with high-performance concrete jackets and FRP wraps.

Past studies suggested various methods to determine the onset of instability of soil under constant shear drained (CSD) stress path using triaxial equipment. These methods were based on the characteristic features observed on the CSD stress path, axial and volumetric strains. However, the characteristic features are not similar for every soil leading to inconsistencies in predicting the onset of instability under the CSD stress path. This paper presents a strain ratio (εv/εa) – mean effective stress (p′) based method for determining the onset of instability of sand in the CSD stress path. The proposed method identifies the onset of instability at the drop of the εv/εa–p′ curve and features a distinctive value to mark the onset of instability. A series of CSD tests have been carried out on sand samples to verify the applicability of the proposed method. The proposed method captured the onset of instability similar to the other methods available in the literature.

Severe burn injury is more challenging to sustain life than a preburn status. The situation changes drastically in terms of energy demands/ expenditure and the great degree of susceptibility to infections due to the loss of amino acids. Glutamine stimulates the immune system and prevents catabolism. The bacterial translocation from the gut can be decreased by glutamine supplementation, thereby suppressing the inflammatory response. In acute burn injury, plasma and muscle glutamine depletion is observed to contribute to muscle wasting, weight loss, and infection. Patients with 20%–50% TBSA burns presenting within 24 hours of injury to the emergency department or outpatient department were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups randomly. In group 1 (Cases), all patients were given enteral glutamine supplementation at the dose of 0.5 mg/kg/day either orally or through a nasogastric tube started within 24 hours of injury. Group 2 (Control) had all the patients in whom enteral glutamine supplementation was not given. In both groups, blood analysis for total leucocyte count (TLC) and total serum proteins (TSP) was done upon admission. On Day 4, followed by analysis every fourth day, after that, till healing occurred or the patient was taken up for grafting. Blood and wound swab cultures were done on the third day of admission, then the first week, followed by weekly cultures for 4 weeks or till healing occurred or the patient was taken up for grafting. A total of 123 patients were studied. There was a decreasing trend in the mean values of the TLC and an increasing trend in TSP in both groups. The difference became statistically significant from Day 20 onwards. The pattern of wound cultures was found to be statistically significant in Week 3 and Week 4, whereas the difference in blood culture positivity among the groups was statistically significant in Week 3. We noted, in our study, that the glutamine supplementation to the early enteral nutrition increased the TSP levels and decreased the TLC, wound, and blood culture positivity rates in the study group. Glutamine supplementation can contribute to improved immunity and reduce burn wound sepsis and bacteremia. All these combined can lead to decreased morbidity, improved wound healing, and better outcomes with lesser costs.

Recently infectious diseases and increasing microbial drug-resistant have caused many humorless health problems. To fill knowledge gaps and guide strategies at all levels for antimicrobials which represent a challenge and an urgent need. For these reasons, our target is developing a new effective antimicrobial drug with extended action time, multi-antimicrobial agents, low toxicity, and safe strategies. Metal–organic frameworks are promising materials for antimicrobial agents. Herein, a novel affordable Fe(III)-MOF was simply prepared via a reflux method. FE-SEM images showed an octahedral structure with sharp edges with high crystallinity and purity of Fe(III)-MOF. Under optimum conditions, the Fe(III)-MOF showed excellent antimicrobial efficiency against ± bacteria, fungus, and yeast with an inhibition zone ranging between 40–46 and 22–24 mm at a concentration of 50 and 25 μg/mL Fe(III)-MOF, respectively. As well, the mechanism of interaction is also well studied. The results open the door for the use of prepared materials as an effective and efficient antimicrobial agent. Graphical abstract

This study investigates the flow of a semicircular labyrinth weir in an open channel by experimental and numerical methods. The experiments were carried out in a channel with a length of 3.5m and width of 0.25m and 0.3m height under five different flow rates. Five different discharge values over the weir were used. In each experiment, flow rate and flow depth were measured. Numerical processes solved using mathematical equations of fluid flow through the computational fluid dynamics using ANSYS FLUENT code. The Volume of Fluid (VOF) model is designed for the case of water and air-immiscible faces. Standard k-epsilon turbulence models were tested. A mass balance result indicates that the maximum error between the inlet and outlet discharges of the main channel does not exceed 12% for discharge values of 4.31 L/sec. The results indicate that by increasing the discharge flow rate, the percentage of error decreased to 0.4% for discharge, 14.6 L/sec. The findings show that the free water surface profile obtained from the numerical model compared to experimental values complies well with the experimental results.

For soil preparation Cultivator is important agricultural equipment. As an important agriculture equipment for soil preparation cultivator is used in which stress are form due to contact with soil where tyne and shovel works as actual member of cultivator which is direct contact with soil. We can reduce the stress from changing the design of tine or shovel of cultivator. The main objective of this analysis is to analyze the forces developed on shovel during operation. To analyze this Shovel using FEM, firstly a proper CAD model has been developed using CATIA cad software. Then by using ANSYs software FEM analysis have been done to determine the stresses.

Several generalised linear models for counts (i.e., Poisson Model) as well as for binary response (i.e., Binary Logistic Model) and ordinal response (i.e., Ordinal Logistic Model) depending on selected multiple explanatory factors (discrete/ categorical) were developed for the road KSI car accidents in England based on STATS19 data (that were manipulated and several new factors were created), after exploratory exploration of discrete/ dichotomous/ nominal/ ordinal factors applied graphical EDA techniques followed by univariate ANOVA/ ANCOVA as well as MANOVA/ MANCOVA based on same selected multiple explanatory factors. Only the main effects as well as two-way interactions were investigated. Majority of main effects and several interaction effects in GLM models were found statistically significant with greater or lesser likelihood of having consequences. The statistically significant KSI car accident factors were identified and quantified for leading to aims to reduce as well as to prevent the car accident, particularly the killed or seriously injured car accidents. It also leads to inform the policymakers on how best to reduce the number and severity of car crashes.

With the growth of technology, researchers are paying greater attention to automated floor cleaning devices in order to make mankind's existence more comfortable. The concept is gaining traction in developed countries, although it is still unpopular because to design complexity, machine costs, and power tariff running costs. A manual floor cleaning machine is proposed in this project. Early in the day, a floor is cleaned with a broom that is controlled by a human hand. This requires a continual movement of the human hand, which is exhausting and time demanding. The goal of this project is to provide a modernised procedure for wet and dry floor cleaning. This equipment is capable of cleaning floors in both dry and wet conditions. It also has a dust storage box. It was decided to create a prototype model that uses a DC drive powered rotary brush with pneumatic controlled dust shifting to assist users in removing waste and maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, thereby avoiding health inequalities and safety concerns for both workers and the general public.

This study deals with the application of geographical information system (GIS) datasets and methods to assess the landslide susceptibility in Wadi Hujran. The area has a rocky terrain and belongs to the Shaqlawa district of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The region is placed towards the Northeast side of Erbil city. The region covers an area of 18.56 Km2 (1856.1 ha) and consists of rough broken and stones. The watershed area is surrounded by North latitudes 36° 21' 53.514" to 36° 17' 49.7796" and East longitudes 44° 17' 5.658" to 44° 20' 9.06". Three factors, namely the morphometric, geological, and environmental, were used to prepare the landslide susceptibility index. The study made use of AHP method and prepared a landslide susceptibility map. Data related to geology, topography, hydrology, rainfall, and land use were used to prepare the map. Physical and statistical methods were used to validate the map. A heuristic approach was incorporated to produce the final susceptibility map. ArcGIS software was used to generate the landslide zones. A total of five landslide zones were generated, which varied from very low landslide zones (80.5) to very high landslide zone (84.5). The zones also included low landslide zone (1262.2), moderate landslide zone (1505.9), and high landslide zone (566.8), and the ratio of consistency in the present study was 0.06 AHP less than 1, and all the five zones in the study were compiled landslide zonation estimated.

Out of five wild Malus species in the world, Malus baccata (L.) Borkh (MB) is reported from the extremely cold areas of north western Himalayas. These are widely used as a rootstock or source of resistance against various biotic and abiotic stresses due to its ecological adaptability and cold hardiness. The study of genetic diversity is an important aspect to be covered for proper utilization of the wild apple germplasm for breeding purpose. The 29 Malus baccata accessions were used to divulge their genetic diversity using morpho-molecular markers. Based on morphological characters, Mahalanobis D2statistics resolved all accessions in four clusters. A set of 85 SSR were used to study molecular diversity among the accessions. The AMOVA stated genetic diversity between populations of genotypes was lower (7%) compared to that observed within and among the individuals of the populations (93%). The effective allele number (2.63) was found to be lower than mean allele number (3.7), with mean heterozygosity as 0.51. The gene diversity varied between 0.10 for Hi02d05 to 0.79 for CH-Vf1.The expected heterozygosity was greater than observed heterozygosity for total analysed loci of SSR. The average PIC value was found as 0.50. The accessions were segregated into two distinct classes using heirarchical clustering method. Further, population structure also differentiated the 29 accessions into two populations, with sub-population I accounts for 18 accessions and sub-population II consisted of only 9 accessions. MB-5 and MB-20 accessions fall in the admixture group. The differentiated populations were validated and reconfirmed by the PCoA analysis. . The morphological features and molecular markers revealed significant level of genetic diversity along with population differentiation among the maintained accessions.

BACKGROUND: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a rare hemoglobinopathy which can result in chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. Patients with SCD have an increased risk of hematologic malignancy, but the prevalence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in this population is unknown. Herein, the association of SCD with HCC was examined using registry data. METHODS: The SEER-Medicare database was queried to identify patients diagnosed with HCC between 2000 and 2015, and further stratified by SCD status. Propensity matching was performed to examine cancer-related survival and treatment outcomes. RESULTS: Overall 56,934 patients with HCC were identified, including 81 patients with SCD. In this article, we report the characterization of a novel DNA damage–regulated gene, named DNA damage–regulated overexpressed in cancer 45 (DOC45). Our results indicate that DNA damage–inducing agents, including doxorubicin (adriamycin), etoposide, and ionizing and UV radiation, strongly downregulate DOC45 expression, whereas endoplasmic reticulum stress–inducing agents do not. Our results also indicate that DOC45 is overexpressed in several human malignancies, including cancers of the colon, rectum, ovary, lung, stomach, and uterus. DOC45 harbors conserved nucleotide triphosphate–binding motifs and is capable of ATP hydrolysis, findings that highlight its function as a novel ATPase. Although predominantly cytoplasmic, DOC45 exhibits a characteristic nucleocytoplasmic distribution and, on inhibition of nuclear export, predominantly accumulates in the nucleoli. These results suggest that DOC45 may shuttle between nucleus and cytoplasm to carry out its function. Our results also indicate that DOC45 expression is enhanced during oncogenic Ras-mediated transformation and that its expression is linked to phosphoinositide 3-kinase signaling pathway. Furthermore, short hairpin RNA–mediated knockdown of DOC45 in human colon cancer cells inhibits their proliferation and enhances cellular sensitivity to doxorubicin-induced cell death, suggesting that DOC45 plays an important role in cell proliferation and survival. Collectively, our results indicate that DOC45 is a novel ATPase that is linked to cellular stress response and tumorigenesis, and may also serve as a valuable tumor marker. We have identified a p53 and DNA damage–regulated gene that encodes a novel IQ motif protein, which we have named p53 and DNA damage–regulated IQ motif protein (PIQ). PIQ has two isoforms, long (PIQ-L) and short (PIQ-S), and both bind to calmodulin in the presence and absence of calcium. PIQ expression is down-regulated by p53 and DNA damage–inducing agents, whereas PIQ itself represses the expression of p53 up-regulated modulator of apoptosis that is a key mediator of p53-induced apoptosis. Thus, PIQ is a novel protein that may function to bridge a crosstalk between p53 and calmodulin-regulated cellular processes. We further show that PIQ expression is up-regulated in a number of primary colorectal and gastric tumors when compared with matching normal tissues, suggesting that PIQ may be involved in tumorigenesis and could serve as a valuable diagnostic/prognostic marker for gastrointestinal tumors.

A Labyrinth weir is a type of nonlinear weir folded in plan-view, with the ability to pass a large flow at low heads due to an increase in the effective length of the weir crest for a given channel width. The discharge coefficients (Cd) were experimentally determined for both semicircular and triangular labyrinth weirs of varying sidewall angles (α) under free-flow conditions using eight physical models. Dimensional analyses are conducted using the Buckingham π theorem to find the dependent and non-dependent variables. A nonlinear empirical equation was developed using (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 22) software. The findings show that the discharge coefficient decreases with the increase of headwater to (Ht/P) for both types of labyrinth weir with different plan forms. It is found that the efficiency of the semicircular and triangular labyrinth is higher than linear weir for (Ht/P ≤ 0.45) and decreases with increasing the value of (Ht/P) due to interference of flow between the layers in downstream. The obtained results revealed that the discharge coefficient (Cd) values obtained empirically using multivariable power regression and 5th degree polynomial equations considerably agree with the experimental data, for both of the semicircular and triangular labyrinth weirs. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient R2was (0.9951) and (0.9637) using 5th degree polynomial equation, and their values were (0.9643) and (0.9274) using multivariable power regression equation for both semicircular and triangular labyrinth weir models, respectively. The results in the present study compared quite well with the predicted results of the proposed equations obtained by other investigators.
