This report presents an analysis of a MISTRAL knowledge exchange survey completed by 892 researchers working on social science aspects of sustainability from around the world in 2020. This had the aim of generating insights into their approach to research communication and knowledge exchange. The online survey posed a range of questions regarding researcher background, perceptions of research use and impact, researchers’ understanding of users, and self-reflection on how knowledge exchange processes can be improved moving forward. The survey was based on the ‘Exchange’ model of knowledge exchange, which envisages this to be a continual process of action, implementation and reflection. This survey is aimed at increasing the level of reflection in this process. A diverse array of responses were received, indicating both trends amongst groups of researchers and differing perspectives regarding certain aspects of how knowledge can most effectively be exchanged and create impact. This report presents the results of the analysed survey responses.
