No presente artigo, realizamos uma breve apresentação de Agustina Bessa-Luís, introduzindo as contribuições da autora para a literatura, com o objetivo de refletir sobre a ressignificação da aura mística feminina por meio das protagonistas Quina de A Sibila (1954) e Eugénia Viseu e Silvina do romance Eugénia e Silvina (1989). São apresentadas, em vista disso, algumas posições teóricas sobre o projeto estético agustiniano, estabelecendo relações entre a representação feminina feita por Bessa-Luís e a condição da mulher na sociedade patriarcal. Para tanto, embasamo-nos em Beauvoir (2016), Bloch (1995), Coelho (1999), Fonseca (2017), Machado (1979), Moisés (2001, 2013), entre outros. Ao tratar das representações do feminino nos seus romances, Agustina Bessa-Luís proporciona uma discussão demasiado importante acerca de estereótipos misóginos, favorecendo sua desconstrução. Nesse sentido, o projeto estético e literário de Agustina Bessa-Luís, a nosso ver, transforma o panorama da ficção portuguesa novecentista, e abre espaço para os escritos que vieram depois.

Background. Infection in acute pancreatitis will worsen the disease prognosis. The aim of our study was to analyze the role of procalcitonin as a prognostic biomarker for infections and clinical severity. Method. A prospective single-cohort observational study of patients diagnosed of acute pancreatitis (n = 152) was designed. PCT determination was tested on admission (first 72 hours). Infections (biliary, extrapancreatic and infected pancreatic necrosis), need for antibiotics, need for urgent ERCP and severity scores for acute pancreatitis was assessed. ROC curves were designed and the area under the curve was calculated. Logistic regression for multivariate analysis was performed to evaluate the association between procalcitonin optimal cut-off level and major complications. Results. PCT > 0.68mg/dL had higher incidence of global infection, acute cholangitis, bacteraemia, infected pancreatic necrosis, use of antibiotics in general, and need for urgent ERCP. In the multivariate regressions analysis, PCT > 0.68mg/dL at admission demonstrated to be a strong risk factor for complications in acute pancreatitis. Discussion. PCT levels can be used as a reliable laboratory test to predict infections and the clinical severity of acute pancreatitis. High levels of PCT predict antibiotics prescription as well as the need for urgent ERCP in patients with concomitant clinically severe cholangitis.

Our study aims to determine the trend in AP hospital mortality and the role of comorbidities as a predictor of hospital mortality. Methods We analyzed patients aged ≥ 18 years hospitalized with AP diagnosis between 2016 and 2019. The data have been extracted from the Spanish National Hospital Discharge Database of the Spanish Ministry of Health. We performed a univariate and multivariable analysis of the association of age, sex, and comorbidities with hospital mortality in patients with AP. The role of the Charlson and Elixhauser comorbidity indices as predictors of mortality was evaluated. Results A total of 110,021 patients diagnosed with AP were hospitalized during the analyzed period. Hospital mortality was 3.8%, with a progressive decrease observed in the years evaluated. A figura feminina é tema contumaz na obra de Agustina Bessa-Luís. Embora as personagens agustinianas possuam caráter universal, a autora traça perfis diferentes que permitem levantar questionamentos acerca das figurações da mulher na sociedade contemporânea. A Sibila, 1953, livro vencedor dos prêmios Delfim Guimarães e Eça de Queirós, é considerado pela crítica um divisor de águas na literatura portuguesa. Ademais, é este que consagra Bessa-Luís uma das maiores romancistas, não só de literatura portuguesa, mas da literatura de modo geral. Dentre suas contribuições literárias, a de maior destaque, a nosso ver, foi abrir espaço para a nova ficção contemporânea portuguesa de autoria feminina. Ao aludir à figura das sibilas clássicas, Bessa-Luís explora a aura mística feminina, aspecto recorrente em suas obras, e pela linguagem, estrutura e análise de pormenores, instiga o leitor a reflexões. É nesse sentido que este trabalho propõe investigar a construção das personagens Maria, Estina e, principalmente, Quina e sua relação com as raízes culturais e ideológicas que influenciaram os juízos de valor sobre a realidade feminina no romance supramencionado. Ao tratar das configurações do feminino na obra, Bessa-Luís proporciona uma discussão importante acerca de alguns estereótipos misóginos, favorecendo sua desconstrução. Deste modo, pretendemos dar ênfase à contribuição de Bessa-Luís para a literatura portuguesa, tecer discussões acerca da ruptura de estereótipos misóginos através da associação do feminino ao místico na obra e, além disto, discutir sobre o legado das mulheres fortes. Maria, Estina e Quina, três figurações femininas distintas que compõem o Clã da família Teixeira. Por fim, pretende-se analisar as três personagens do romance, estabelecendo relações entre a representação feminina feita por Bessa-Luís e a condição da mulher na sociedade patriarcal. The female figure is a common theme in the work of Agustina Bessa-Luís. Although her characters be universal, the author draws different profiles that allow us to raise questions about the figurations of women in contemporary society. A Sibila, 1953, winner of the Delfim Guimarães and Eça de Queirós Awards, is considered by critics a historical landmark in Portuguese literature. For it is this who consecrates BessaLuís one of the greatest novelists, not only of Portuguese literature, but of universal literature. Among her literary contributions, the most prominent, in our view, was to make room for the new Portuguese contemporary fiction of female authorship. Referring to the figure of classical sibyls, Bessa-Luís explores the feminine mystical aura, a recurring aspect in her works, and by language, structure and analysis of details, urges the reader to reflections. It is in this sense that this work proposes to investigate the construction of the characters Maria, Estina and, especially, Quina and their relationship with the cultural and ideological roots that influenced the value judgments about the female reality in the above mentioned novel. In dealing with the configurations of the feminine in the work, Bessa-Luís provides an important discussion about some misogynist stereotypes, favoring their deconstruction. In this way, we intend to emphasize the immeasurable contribution of Bessa-Luís to the Portuguese literature, to make discussions about the rupture of misogynist stereotypes through the association of the feminine with the mystic in the work in question and furthermore, to discuss about the legacy of the Strong Women. Maria, Estina and Quina, three distinct female figurations that make up the Teixeira’s family Clan. Finally, we intend to analyze the three characters of the novel, establishing relationships between the female representation in their construction and the condition of women in patriarchal society. For this, we are based on Araújo and Fonseca (2015), Beauvoir (2009), Bloch (1995), Butler (2017), Coelho (1999), Fonseca (2017), Kury (2009), Machado (1979), Magalhães (1989), Moisés (2001 and 2013) and others.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a practical instrument for self-evaluation of maturity in the processes of procurement and supply management, applicable to small and medium-size companies, as well as to show how the use of this evaluation tool may help companies to decide what to improve in these processes. Design/methodology/approach Based on an empirical and theoretical framework, the instrument developed measures the maturity of procurement and supply management activities in four macro-processes: materials management, purchase process, supplier evaluation process and process of procurement planning. For testing the self-evaluation instrument, the authors evaluated the maturity of 48 hospitals and 37 metal-mechanic manufacturing companies located in the southern region of Brazil. To show how to use this tool to decide what to improve in procurement and supply processes, the authors conducted a comparative analysis of a hospital and a metal-mechanic company, in relation to the sample of the same segment. Findings The results show that the instrument is reliable for practical application. Metal-mechanic industries have a greater maturity in the purchase process than in the other three macro-processes. The management of materials is the most mature macro-process in hospitals. Comparing hospitals to metal-mechanic companies, the present research shows that, between 20 and 99 employees, hospitals tend to have a higher level of maturity in the purchase process than metal-mechanic companies. With 100 employees or more, metal-mechanic companies are more mature than hospitals in procurement planning and in selection/evaluation of suppliers. Originality/value Presenting a useful self-evaluation instrument, this work demonstrates that the measurement of the maturity level, and benchmarking it with other companies, may help a firm to decide what to improve in its processes of procurement and materials management, showing how an economic sector can understand itself better. Few scientific studies have practical application to the assessment of the degree of maturity of procurement and supply management processes. Besides that the authors did not find other papers presenting a comparison of different segments.

Em escritos judaico-cristãos (e pagãos) que fundaram o ocidente medieval, a mulher está relacionada ao mal e ao pecaminoso. O comportamento feminino e sua relação com a natureza e os seres que nela habitam, submetidos à autoridade do Cristianismo para a interpretação de eventos naturais como “sobrenaturais”, alimentaram uma noção mística misógina que culminou na associação da mulher à bruxaria. Esse imaginário sobre a mulher repercute até os dias atuais. Não raro, têm surgido obras literárias que discutem esses temas ainda hoje. Assim sendo, este trabalho propõe desvelar a ressonância do ideário mediévico sobre a mulher e a bruxaria, analisando os contos “São os cabelos das mulheres” e “Quem me deu foi a manhã”, ambos do livro 23 histórias de um viajante, de Mariana Colasanti. Para tanto, nos embasaremos principalmente em Bloch (1995); Chevalier e Gheerbrant (2009), Fonseca (2010; 2013), Kramer e Sprenger (2014), Muraro (2014), dentre outros.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Marina Colasanti - 23 histórias de um viajante. Monitoring and controlling costs are relevant matters to any organization, especially hospitals which usually encounter limitations in relation to available resources, as this information is vital to successful management. The literature frequently points to the advantages of using different cost systems for service organizations, especially those involved in the health care industry, although these models have not been validated in a complete hospital organization, nor have their real and effective benefits been identified. As such, the objective of this study is to demonstrate the use of absorption costing joined with the RKW system for generating managerial information in a hospital organization, thus making use of a parallel system of costing and costs and thereby relating them to fulfillment of legal precepts. The research was conducted starting with an interview held in November 2007 with the person responsible for hospital costs, followed by documental analysis. In light of the discoveries of the research and review of the literature it can be concluded that the traditional absorption system joined with the RKW system allows for monitoring of costs of hospital procedures with an acceptable level of precision, and is an important instrument in management.
