The uprising alternately called EDSA Revolution or People Power Revolution or EDSA People Power Revolt, which led to the downfall of Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1986, supposedly ushered in the formal restoration of civil freedoms that had been snatched away by Marcos’ martial law. In the aftermath of the uprising, formal democratic institutions and civil rights were returned, including the right to free elections and the right to peaceful assembly. But as this article seeks to show, the administrations after EDSA have been marred by the neglect of workers’ welfare and the failure to address old labor concerns such as inadequate wages, job precarity, and contractualization. Given the shortage of employment opportunities in the Philippines, the administrations after EDSA have also promoted migration as its de facto job-generating mechanism. But the export of human resources is not without its ugly consequences, such as making overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) susceptible to abuse and exploitation. Deploying the notion of counter-history and using various materials from both government and non-government organizations, this article undertakes to critically assess the labor conditions during the historical period after the fabled EDSA People Power Revolt, and concludes that no notable changes have taken place.

Dolayısıyla ürik asit kristalleri hastada bulunuyorsa kanda çözünmeye başlayacak ve kristallerde dokulardan uzaklaşacaktır., In this study, it is planned to develop product/products that can be used in reducing the high uric acid concentration in the blood, which is the cause of gout. This product/products will not only be used in gout but also in diseases caused by high uric acid concentrations in the blood such as acute uric acid nephropathy, nephrolithiasis, and chronic urate nephropathy. The uric acid crystals accumulated in the joints in gout are tried to be eliminated. The reason for the accumulation of uric acid crystals is due to the little or no activity of the uricase enzyme in patients. Since the bioconversion of uric acid cannot be achieved in metabolism, the concentration of uric acid in the blood increases. As the uric acid level, whose solubility is already low, increases in the blood, it accumulates in the form of crystals, especially in areas with poor circulation. Even at the advanced levels of the disease, especially in the joints due to the accumulation of crystals, wounds occur and even the uric acid crystals appear on the wound. As a result of this situation, the patient suffers greatly. As a result of this situation, the patient suffers greatly. Microbial production of nitrilase enzyme, optimization of production and modification of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fabric under optimum conditions; The microbial production of the uricase enzyme, the optimization and purification of the production, and the immobilization of the purified uricase enzyme to the modified PAN fabric and the optimization of the immobilization and the uricase were also immobilized in different support materials. As a result, the developed product/products will be designed for use in the treatment of gout. Thus, the high concentration of uric acid in the blood will be reduced during treatment. Therefore, if uric acid crystals are present in the patient, they will begin to dissolve in the blood and move away from the tissues in the crystals.

Manufacturing industries such as the food industry implements automation with the advancement of technology. Quality inspection of foods and packages are very crucial to the safety and to the high production requirement imposed by the consumers. This process involve handling various foods or objects with different sizes, shapes, color, and temperature for classification to ensure the quality of products before being sent out of the factory. This thesis proposes a novel automated system that classifies an object based on the four parameters: size, shape, color, and temperature. Color and temperature are the vital parameters of the study, as these two parameters tend to contradict with the existing object classification algorithms. The four parameters are obtained using the integration of an optical and thermal camera to capture image features and temperature respectively. Objects are classified using an artificial neural network as the machine learning algorithm. The performance and accuracy of the proposed system is evaluated and the existing works involving common parameters are compared.

The modern-day video-surveillance system is a significant advancement in technology used in various applications with the aim of automatizing the recognition of dangerous situations and helping human security officers to make the most appropriate decisions in order to ensure the safety of the general population. With the ever-growing crime rate in the Philippines, the government made counter measures to ensure the safety of the citizens. CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras were installed in public places in which the government aims it to help deter crime and solve investigations. However, index crimes is still growing even though the CCTV cameras were installed in numerous places since current surveillance and control systems still require human supervision and intervention. This study proposes to empower the CCTV cameras with the use of an automatic firearm detection system in videos appropriate for surveillance purposes. With the adaptation of existing object detection techniques, an algorithm will be designed according to the given specifications of the CCTV cameras installed in the Philippines. The proposed algorithm will trigger an alarm signal when a firearm was to be detected. This study aims to help reduce the number of crimes that involves firearms and to ensure a safer community for the people with the use of the proposed algorithm.

As a genre, testimonios or testimonial narratives are not just transgressive of canonical literary aesthetics; they also serve as a tool for otherwise marginalized groups to expose, denounce, and negotiate their experiences of abjection and subordination. These narratives may constitute a counter-hegemonic project, if not an oppositional response, at least, to structures and relations sustained (often brutally) by the apparati of state and capital. In this exploratory paper, I read the letters of abused workers as counternarratives that rub against mainstream discourse. In particular, I am using as primary materials the letters written by the Filipino workers of a foreign company which has been recognized and endorsed by state officials for its “contribution” to investment and job generation. Occluded, however, are the stories of abuse, exploitation, and repression among the workers, some of whom have met violent deaths in the workplace. These “littlestories” become counternarratives vis-à-vis the positive, celebratory depiction of the company in official discourse, which bleaches the company of allegations concerning its anti-labor practices. The discussion revolves around how the letters as testimonios and as counternarratives exemplifydiscourses of resistance and solidarity, foregrounding the workers’ denunciation of the abuses committed by and within the company, while also highlighting the workers’ collective responses to these abuses.

International audience; Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major concern of public health. The pharmacist is known as a health practitioner involved in prevention and therapeutic education. Our study aimed at defining the impact of community pharmacists' interventions for preventing and screening CKD. In our observational prospective study of 5 months conducted in 109 community pharmacy, we included 2 groups of patients: A (therapeutic optimization): CKD patients and B (CKD screening): population at risk. In group A, we included 354 patients, mainly women (51.2%), in stage 3 of CKD, mean age 73 years old, with hypertension alone (40.6%) or associated with diabetes (44%). About 70% of the patients had a follow up by a nephrologist and 45% of them were good adherent according to the Morisky-Green self-report. However, approximately 20% of patients did not have nephroprotective treatments in their regimen although they were on stage 3 or 4 CKD patients, and about half of them were not aware of medical situations at risk. Concerning group B, 532 patients were included. The pharmaceutical interventions screened 10% of patients with a GFR

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the “signature wound” seen in veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, from which the U.S. now has over 20,000 young veterans living with TBI. However, some unintended consequences of the Bayh-‐Dole Act of 1980, a law designed to tap the “secret weapon” of federally funded research & development (R&D) to help the U.S. return to competitiveness after the recession of the late 1970’s, are now preventing these heroes from getting the treatment and cures they need. This article reviews the history of American academia’s close cooperation with the U.S. government in solving military medical problems from WWI through the Vietnam War, where those cures have now benefited millions worldwide. It then shows how this relationship has changed since the enactment of Bayh-‐Dole Act, and then examines the Act’s current and future impact on U.S. national security and the all-‐volunteer force. The article concludes that the Bayh-‐Dole Act should not be completely repealed, but recommends some amendments be enacted in order to take better care of the 1% of the U.S. population that fights and sacrifices to protect the other 99%.

International audience; Background: In end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, HCV eradication improves patient and graft survival. Aim: Determine optimal use of erythropoietin and ribavirin, compare ribavirin concentrations with those of HCV patients having normal renal function and evaluate SVR in a prospective observatory of ESRD candidates for renal transplantation. Methods: Thirty-two naïve patients were treated with Peg-IFN-α2a and ribavirin. Two different schedules of ribavirin and EPO administration were used: starting ribavirin at 600 mg per week and adapting EPO when hemoglobin fell below 10 g/dL (adaptive strategy), or starting ribavirin at 1,000 mg per week while increasing EPO from the start of treatment (preventive strategy). Results: Patients treated with the adaptive strategy had lower median hemoglobin levels (9.6 vs. 10.9 g/dL, p=0.02) and more frequently median Hb levels below 10 g/dL (58 vs. 5%, p=0.0007) despite lower median ribavirin doses (105 vs. 142 mg/day, p
