Objective: Clear cell odontogenic carcinoma (CCOC) is a rare malignant odontogenic tumor (MOT) characterized by sheets and lobules of vacuolated and clear cells. To understand the biology of CCOC, we established a new cell line, CCOC-T, with EWSR1-ATF1 fusion gene from a mandible tumor with distant metastasis and characterized this cell line. Materials and methods: To detect the EWSR1-ATF1 fusion gene, we used three CCOC cases, including the present case, by RT-PCR and FISH analysis. We characterized established CCOC-T cells by checking cell growth, invasion and the expression of odontogenic factors and bone-related factors. Moreover, the gene expression profile of CCOC-T cells was examined by microarray analysis. Results: Histologically, the primary tumor was comprised of cords and nests containing clear and squamoid cells separated by fibrous septa. In addition, ameloblastomatous islands with palisaded peripheral cells were observed, indicating probable odontogenic origin. This tumor expressed the fusion gene EWSR1-ATF1, which underlies the etiology of hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma (HCCC) and potentially that of CCOC. We found a breakpoint in the EWSR1-ATF1 fusion to be the same as that reported in HCCC. Established CCOC-T cells grew extremely slowly, but the cells showed highly invasive activity. Moreover, CCOC-T cells expressed bone-related molecules, odontogenic factors, and epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related molecules. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the establishment of a CCOC cell line. CCOC-T cells serve as a useful in vitro model for understanding the pathogenesis and nature of MOT.

Both autoimmunity and tumor immunity are immune responses against self-tissues or cells. However, the precise similarity or difference between them remains unclear. In this study, to understand a novel mechanism of tumor immunity, we performed transplantation experiments with a murine autoimmune model, C57BL/6J (B6)/lpr mice. A melanoma cell line, B16F10 cells, or granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor- overexpressing B16F10 (B16F10/mGM) cells were transplanted into B6 or B6/lpr mice. Tumor growth by transplanted B16F10/mGM cells was significantly accelerated in B6/lpr mice compared with that in B6 mice. The accumulation of M1 macrophages in the tumor tissues of B6/lpr recipient mice was significantly lower compared with that in the control mice. In vitro co-culture experiment showed that impaired differentiation into M1 macrophages was observed in B6/lpr mice. The number of tumor vessels and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression were also significantly enhanced in the tumor tissues of B6/lpr mice compared with those in the B6 mice. Moreover, VEGF expression was correlated with the increased expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α in the tumor tissues of B6/lpr mice. These results suggest that dysfunctional tumor immunity and enhanced angiogenesis in autoimmunity influence tumor growth.

Background Nanomaterials are widely used in various fields. Although the toxicity of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in pulmonary tissues has been demonstrated, the toxicological effect of CNTs on the immune system in the lung remains unclear. Methods and finding In this study, exposure to Taquann-treated multi-walled CNTs (T-CNTs) was performed using aerosols generated in an inhalation chamber. At 12 months after T-CNT exposure, alveolar inflammation with macrophage accumulation and hypertrophy of the alveolar walls were observed. In addition, fibrotic lesions were enhanced by T-CNT exposure. The macrophages in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of T-CNT-exposed mice were not largely shifted to any particular population, and were a mixed phenotype with M1 and M2 polarization. Moreover, the alveolar macrophages of T-CNT-exposed mice produced matrix metalloprotinase-12. Conclusions These results suggest that T-CNT exposure promoted chronic inflammation and fibrotic lesion formation in profibrotic macrophages for prolonged periods.

For instance, not only a group therapy approach but also individual correspondence is requested for a personal problem of related to privacy like obesity as for nursing. The place in which it can consult about the thing that it worries about the side effect at anytime is necessary for the person concerned who lives in the region., 抗精神病薬の服薬中断により入退院を繰り返したある当事者の語りをとおして、服薬継続における「自己決定の尊重」と看護の役割について考察し、主体的に服薬継続をしていくために看護が求められていることは何かを明らかにした。患者が自ら服薬継続の必要性を認識し納得する、そのプロセスを支援していくことが看護に求められる。具体的には、(1)薬物療法に関する日常的な援助場面や、SST・心理教育などの集団療法的な場面で、看護の専門性に則ったインフォームド・コンセントを行っていく、(2)患者－医師間に信頼関係ができ、薬に関して率直に話し合いができるようになるために、患者自らが行動を起こせるようなエンパワメントを図っていくことが挙げられる。また、肥満のような個人的なプライバシーに関わる副作用については、集団療法的アプローチとともに個別的な対応が求められる。その対応策は、患者自ら判断でき、その人なりの無理のない実践が可能となるように支援をする。地域で生活する当事者には、副作用などの困りごとをいつでも相談できる「場」が必要である。外来などを利用して、患者に最も近くにいる看護が中心となって、「場」を提供する対策が必要である。

application/pdf, 論文(Article), The emotional quotient (EQ) is also known as the mental intelligence quotient. We believe that both intellectual ability and EQ are relevant to the practice of nursing. For this study, we conducted a longitudinal analysis of data to look for trends in the EQ scores of fi rst- and third-year nursing students. Study participants consisted of 196 students who were admitted to three-year nursing school programs at fi ve institutions, and later 186 of those same students when they were enrolled in their third year. We used Masao Ōmura's EQ instrument for this study. No significant differences were found between fi rst- and thirdyear students in the dimensions of empathy, selfawareness, persistence, and optimism. However, third-year students had lower empathy scores than first-year students. There were also signifi cant differences between fi rst and third year students on the dimensions of self-control and adaptability. These fi ndings intimate that on-site clinical training greatly influences student development in nursing science education. Further research will go beyond the longitudinal design of this study and determine the associative factors related to the EQ scores for each student.

We study the parametric resonance of the neutrino oscillation through the matter whose density varies spatially. The Fourier analysis of the matter effect enables us to clarify the parametric resonance condition, which is summarized in a frequency matching between the neutrino oscillation and the spatial variation of the matter density. As a result, the n-th Fourier mode of a matter density profile modifies the energy spectrum of the νμ →νe appearance probability at around the n-th dip.

Recently, the committee of the educational authorities is taking notice of a new school subject, integrated learning (sogotekinagakusyu). As a kind of integrated learning, integrated human science has been being taught in the affiliated upper and lower secondary school of Nagoya University since 1995. Although we reported about usefulness of learning integrated human science last year, we attempted to verify the consistency of the result over one year, using different subjects. Concerning the content of the questionnaire, the points which were different from the previous study were as follows : (1) three new items representing usefulness of learning integrated human science were added to 43 original items; (2) students were asked in an open-ended questionnaire what usefulness they noticed in learning integrated human science except usefulness that they had showed in 46 items; (3) another open-ended question requested them to describe how motivation of learning integrated human science would be generalized. Roughly speaking, the present result had strong resemblance to the previous ones. However, some differences were shown between two researches. In this study, five factors of usefulness were found by a factor analysis unlike two factors shown in the previous study. Of these, the most important factor meant usefulness for development of self-learning ability. In other words, students inferred that taking a class of integrated human science would bring up their learning ability. Besides, usefulness for forming concerns with society and government and usefulness for raising interpersonal skill were found. Concerning the other two factors, however, we could not interpret clearly. From two open-ended questions, it was revealed that students thought they became to be able to communicate easily with even unknown persons because students had accumulated a lot of experiences to contact with those in the field study. We consider a search for the CP-violating angle deltaCP in long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. We show that the subleading deltaCP-dependent terms in the nu_mu -> nu_e oscillation probability can be easily obscured by the ambiguity of the leading term which depends on |dm^2_31|. It is thus necessary to determine the value of dm^2_31 with a sufficient accuracy. The nu_mu survival events, which can be accumulated simultaneously with the nu_e appearance events, can serve for this purpose owing to its large statistics. Therefore, the combined analysis of nu_e appearance and nu_mu survival events is crucial to provide a restrictive constraint on deltaCP. Taking a test experimental setup, we demonstrate in the deltaCP-dm^2_31 plane that the analysis of nu_e appearance events leads to less restrictive constraints on the value of deltaCP due to the ambiguity of dm^2_31 and that the combined analysis efficiently improves the constraints., ReVTeX file, 9 pages, 7 figures.
