The single image super-resolution (SISR) technique refers to improving the resolution over the original image. In recent years, we use deep learning-based convolutional neural networks to improve the spatial resolution of images more reasonably. To train such deep learning models, we use training samples consisting of the original HR images and LR images obtained by bicubic downsampling. However, this method of training data using downsampling has a negative impact when applying the trained model to real images. That is because the downsampling function that occurs in the real image is unknown, and the hypothetically created LR image does not represent the resolution degradation that can realistically occur. Therefore, SISR methods that use realistic degradation called real-world super-resolution (RWSR) have been proposed. In this paper, we investigate how such RWSR methods using realistic degradation affect the SISR performance of satellite images. The results of applying the trained model to optical satellite images show that the RWSR method is not the most effective way to handle optical satellite images when compared to the deep learning method without modeling the degradation. In particular, we showed that the effect of RWSR with not only upsampling but also noise and blur removal is significant in the visibility of optical satellite images. Moreover, pre-trained RWSR models can be an aid in visually deciphering ground objects.

We study simultaneous parametric oscillations in a system composed of two distributed-element-circuit Josephson parametric oscillators in the single-photon Kerr regime coupled via a static capacitance. The energy of the system is described by a two-bit Ising Hamiltonian with an effective coupling whose amplitude and sign depend on the relative phase between parametric pumps. We demonstrate that the binary phases of the parametric oscillations are correlated with each other, and that the parity and strength of the correlation can be controlled by adjusting the pump phase. The observed correlation is reproduced in our simulation taking pure dephasing into account. The present result demonstrates the tunability of the Hamiltonian parameters by the phase of external microwave, which can be used in the Ising machine hardware composed of the KPO network., 11 pages, 11 figures

Terrestrial exoplanets orbiting within or near their host stars’ habitable zone are potentially apt for life. It has been proposed that time-series measurements of reflected starlight from such planets will reveal their rotational period, main surface features and some atmospheric information. From imagery obtained with the Akatsuki spacecraft, here we show that Venus’ brightness at 283, 365, and 2020 nm is modulated by one or both of two periods of 3.7 and 4.6 days, and typical amplitudes, Establishing diagnostics for terrestrial exoplanets are crucial for their characterization. Here, the authors show brightness modulations of Venus are caused by planetary-scale waves superimposed on the super-rotating winds can be used to detect existence of an atmosphere if detected at an exoplanet.

A patient who underwent fertility-sparing surgery for Stage IA clear cell carcinoma may have developed de novo clear cell carcinoma in the contralateral ovary 9 years later. She underwent fertility-sparing surgery and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for right ovarian carcinoma at 33 years of age (when endometriosis was observed in the contralateral ovary). At the age of 41 years, a tumor was discovered in the left ovary. This was diagnosed pathologically as clear cell carcinoma with clear cell adenofibroma, which may have developed de novo. A consensus is currently taking shape that although fertility-sparing surgery is a therapeutic option for patients with Stage IA clear cell carcinoma, long-term outpatient monitoring is advised to watch for its recurrence or de novo development in the contralateral ovary.

The images of AKATSUKI acquired with the camera IR2 at 1.74-2.3 µm report the discovery of an equatorial disruption or “front” in the opacity of the lower clouds of Venus at 50 km between 30ºN¿30ºS. This feature appears on the night every 9 terrestrial days during more than 8 months, and introduces a dramatic and abrupt increase of the cloud opacity and reducing the thermal radiance in a factor of about 1:2 from its brightest to the darkest side.

Excessive alcohol consumption is a major public health problem worldwide. Although drinking habits are known to be inherited, few genes have been identified that are robustly linked to alcohol drinking. We conducted a genome-wide association metaanalysis and replication study among > 105,000 individuals of European ancestry and identified β-Klotho (KLB) as a locus associated with alcohol consumption (rs11940694; P = 9.2 × 10-12). β-Klotho is an obligate coreceptor for the hormone FGF21, which is secreted from the liver and implicated in macronutrient preference in humans. We show that brain-specific β-Klotho KO mice have an increased alcohol preference and that FGF21 inhibits alcohol drinking by acting on the brain. These data suggest that a liver-brain endocrine axis may play an important role in the regulation of alcohol drinking behavior and provide a unique pharmacologic target for reducing alcohol consumption.

Subjects were patients ≥16 years old) who received injection antibiotics to treat lower respiratory tract infections, and who were listed among 2004–2007 insurance claims data. Cell surface mucins configure the cell surface by presenting extended protein backbones that are heavily O-glycosylated. The glycopeptide structures establish physicochemical properties at the cell surface that enable and block the formation of biologically important molecular complexes. Some mucins, such as MUC1, associate with receptor tyrosine kinases and other cell surface receptors, and engage in signal transduction in order to communicate information regarding conditions at the cell surface to the nucleus. In that context, the MUC1 cytoplasmic tail (MUC1CT) receives phosphorylation signals from receptor tyrosine kinases and serine/threonine kinases, which enables its association with different signaling complexes that conduct these signals to the nucleus and perhaps other subcellular organelles. We have detected the MUC1CT at promoters of over 500 genes, in association with several different transcription factors, and have shown that promoter occupancy can vary under different growth factor conditions. However, the full biochemical nature of the nuclear forms of MUC1 and its function at these promoter regions remain undefined. I will present evidence that nuclear forms of the MUC1CT include extracellular and cytoplasmic tail domains. In addition, I will discuss evidence for a hypothesis that the MUC1CT possesses a novel catalytic function that enables remodeling of the transcription factor occupancy of promoters, and thereby engages in regulation of gene expression.

Background: AZD3514 is a first-in-class, orally bio-available, androgen-dependent and -independent androgen receptor inhibitor and selective androgen-receptor down-regulator (SARD). Methods: In study 1 and 2, castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) patients (pts) were initially recruited into a once daily (QD) oral schedule (A). In study 1, pharmacokinetic assessments led to twice daily (BID) dosing (schedule B) to increase exposure. Study 2 explored a once daily schedule. Results: In study 1, 49 pts were treated with escalating doses of AZD3514 (A 35 pts, B 14 pts). Starting doses were 100 mg (A) and 1000 mg (B). The AZD3514 formulation was switched from capsules to tablets at 1000 mg QD. 2000 mg BID was considered non-tolerable due to grade (G) 2 toxicities (nausea [N], vomiting [V]). No adverse events (AEs) met the dose-limiting toxicity (DLT) definition. Thirteen pts received AZD3514 in study 2, with starting doses of 250 mg QD. The most frequent drug-related AEs were N: G1/2 in 55/70 pts (79 %); G3 in 1 pt (1.4 %); & V: G1/2 in 34/70 pts (49 %) & G3 in 1 pt (1.4 %). PSA declines (≥50 %) were documented in 9/70 patients (13 %). Objective soft tissue responses per RECIST1.1 were observed in 4/24 (17 %) pts in study 1. Conclusion: AZD3514 has moderate anti-tumour activity in pts with advanced CRPC but with significant levels of nausea and vomiting. However, anti-tumour activity as judged by significant PSA declines, objective responses and durable disease stabilisations, provides the rationale for future development of SARD compounds.

A quasi-free photo-production of neutral kaons on ^C has been measured in the threshold region. Neutral kaons were identified by the invariant mass of two charged pions after K_s →π^+π^- decay outside the target. The obtained cross section is almost the same magnitude as that of K^+. The data are also compared with the calculation using the elementary kaon photo-production model. The results are the first information on n(γ, K^0)Λ reaction which is necessary to improve the models.

We have developed a liquid deuterium target system to be used with the Neutral Kaon Spectrometer (NKS). We designed the system with attention to yield, background and safety. For maximizing the K^0 yield, target thickness was optimized and the density of the liquid was kept as high as possible. For minimizing the background, we tried to reduce the amount of material around the target region. For the safety operation, we adopted the LabVIEW on Linux which enabled the remote monitoring and controlling. The target cell is made of aluminum outer shell with a thickness of 1mm and beam windows of 75μm thick polyimide film. We adopted the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) with a thickness of 1.5mm for the material of the wall of the vacuum chamber covering the target cell. We succeeded in suppressing the boiling of the liquid deuterium and keeping the state as long as 2 weeks. The density of the liquid deuterium throughout the beam time in May 2004 was 0.1731±0.00007g/cm^3 including long term stability and short term fluctuation. The total error of the number of the target is 0.63%, which is much less than the statistical error.

金沢大学理工研究域物質化学系, In our previous paper, we reported a mutant of recombinant Myrothecium verrucaria bilirubin oxidase, in which the Met467 residue was replaced by Gly. This mutant displayed a remarkable reduction in enzymatic activity and an evident decrease in the intensity of the absorption band around 600 nm (type 1 charge transfer transition). In this study, we report the preparation of three Met467 mutants (Met467Gln, Met467His, and Met467Arg) and characterize their enzymatic activities, midpoint potentials, and absorption and ESR spectra. Met467His and Met467Arg show no enzymatic activity and a great reduction in the intensity of the absorption band around 600 nm. Furthermore, their ESR spectra show no type 1 copper signal, but only a type 2 copper signal; however, oxidation by ferricyanide caused the type 1 copper signal to appear. On the other hand, Met467Gln as expressed shows both type 1 and type 2 copper signals in its ESR spectrum, the type 1 copper atom parameters being very different from usual blue copper proteins but very similar to those of stellacyanin. The enzymatic activity of the Met467Gln mutant for bilirubin is quite low (0.3%), but the activity for potassium ferrocyanide is similar (130%) to that of the wild type enzyme. These results indicate that Met467 is important for characterizing the features of the type 1 copper of bilirubin oxidase.

Riociguat, a soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator, has been shown in a phase 2 trial to be beneficial in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. METHODS: In this phase 3, double-blind study, we randomly assigned 443 patients with symptomatic pulmonary arterial hypertension to receive placebo, riociguat in individually adjusted doses of up to 2.5 mg three times daily (2.5 mg-maximum group), or riociguat in individually adjusted doses that were capped at 1.5 mg three times daily (1.5 mg-maximum group). The 1.5 mg-maximum group was included for exploratory purposes, and the data from that group were analyzed descriptively. Patients who were receiving no other treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension and patients who were receiving endothelin-receptor antagonists or (nonintravenous) prostanoids were eligible. The primary end point was the change from baseline to the end of week 12 in the distance walked in 6 minutes. Secondary end points included the change in pulmonary vascular resistance, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels, World Health Organization (WHO) functional class, time to clinical worsening, score on the Borg dyspnea scale, quality-of-life variables, and safety. The STB-Tagger was calibrated by measuring photon energies with a pair spectrometer. We conclude that the energy range of the tagged photons in the 1.2 GeV-mode is from 0.8 to 1.1 GeV.

International audience; The Brezing-Weng method is a general framework to generate families of pairing-friendly elliptic curves. Here, we introduce an improvement which can be used to generate more curves with larger discriminants. Apart from the number of curves this yields, it provides an easy way to avoid endomorphism rings with small class number.

The PTEN tumor suppressor gene encodes a multifunctional phosphatase that plays an important role in inhibiting the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase pathway and downstream functions that include activation of Akt/protein kinase B, cell survival, and cell proliferation. Enforced expression of PTEN in various cancer cell lines decreases cell proliferation through arrest of the cell cycle, accompanied in some cases by induction of apoptosis. We used cDNA microarrays containing 4009 cDNAs to examine changes in gene-expression profiles when exogenous PTEN was induced in PTEN-defective cells. The microarrays and subsequent semi-quantitative reverse transcription-PCR analysis revealed transcriptional stimulation of 99 genes and repression of 72 genes. Some of the differentially expressed genes already had been implicated in cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, or cell cycle control, e.g., overexpression of PTEN-induced transactivation of cyclin-dependent inhibitor 1B (p27Kip1) and 2B (p15INK4B), members of the TNF receptor family, tumor necrosis factor-associated genes, and members of the Notch-signaling and Mad families. To our knowledge this is the first report of transactivation of those genes by PTEN. The genes differentially expressed in our experiments also included many whose correlation with cancer development had not been recognized before. Our data should contribute to a greater understanding of the broad spectrum of ways in which PTEN affects intracellular signaling pathways. Analysis of expression profiles with microarrays appears to be a powerful approach for identifying anticancer genes and/or disease-specific targets for cancer therapy.

BACKGROUND/AIM—Inactivation of the p16INK4A (p16) tumour suppressor gene by promoter region hypermethylation has been demonstrated not only in many types of tumours, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but also in early preneoplastic lesions in the lung, colon, oesophagus, and pancreas. The aim of this study was to examine the methylation status of the p16 promoter in pre- and/or non-neoplastic liver diseases. PATIENTS/SUBJECTS/METHODS—The methylation status of p16 was evaluated in 22 HCC, 17 cirrhosis, 17 chronic hepatitis, nine primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), eight autoimmune hepatitis, seven drug induced liver disease, six fatty liver, and three normal liver tissues using methylation specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP). p16 protein expression was also examined by immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS—Methylation of the p16 promoter was detected in HCC (72.7%, 16/22) and also in cirrhosis (29.4%, 5/17) and chronic hepatitis (23.5%, 4/17), all of which were positive for hepatitis B or C virus infections. Methylation was not detected in any of the other samples. All methylation positive HCC, cirrhosis, and chronic hepatitis samples showed loss of p16 expression, and a significant correlation was found between methylation and loss of expression. Analysis of serial samples from individual patients with methylation positive HCC revealed that loss of p16 expression with promoter methylation occurred in 18 of 20 patients at the stage of chronic hepatitis without clinically detectable carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS—Our results suggest that methylation of the p16 promoter and the resulting loss of p16 protein expression are early events in a subset of hepatocarcinogenesis and that their detection is useful in the follow up of patients with a high risk of developing HCC, such as those with hepatitis B or C viral infections. We study the oscillation spectrum and acoustic properties of a liquid drop in the phase-separated fluid when the interfacial dynamics of phase conversion can be described in terms of the kinetic growth coefficient. For a readily mobile interface, i.e., as the growth coefficient becomes comparable with a reciprocal of the acoustic impedance, anomalous behavior is found in the oscillation spectrum of a drop as well as in the velocity and absorption of a sound wave propagating through a suspension of drops in the two-phase system. Compared with the known case of two immiscible fluids, the high interface mobility leads to an anomalous softening of the radial drop pulsations and to the frequency- and temperature-dependent behavior for the sound velocity and absorption coefficient in a two-phase suspension., Comment: 6 pages

These MMICs operate without a gate bias control v ltage when the gate bias is shunted in the package. This PA module pr vides 30dBm utput p wer and approximately 30dB of gain in the 27-31GHz range. The single bias supply perati n pr vides significant cost advantage to the device manufacture as well as the end user since there is no need to design a gate contr l bias network.

To study the effects of the intrathecal administered glutamate receptor antagonists on the bladder and urethral activities during isovolumetric bladder contraction in conscious normal and chronic spinal rats.Twenty-eight female Wistar rats with and without previous spinal cord transection were used. Before and after intrathecal administration of glutamate receptor antagonist, urodynamic parameters under isovolmetric condition of the bladder were analyzed.In normal rats, MK-801 (noncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate [NMDA] receptor antagonist) and LY 293558 (competitive AMPA receptor antagonist) produced a decrease in bladder contraction pressure and urethral activity with dose dependent manner. In chronic spinal rats, detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia (DSD) was developed before drug administration. MK-801 and LY 293558 partially inhibited bladder contraction pressure, and markedly depressed urethral contraction concomitant with bladder contraction. LY 293558 produced urethral relaxation concomitant with bladder contraction.In both normal rats and chronic spinal rats, two subtypes of glutamate receptors (NMDA and AMPA receptors) in the spinal cord were involved in the control of bladder and urethral activities. The AMPA receptor in the spinal cord seems to take an important role in the development of DSD.

A high efficiency 1.4 W MMIC power in the K-Band frequency band has been developed. A process technology optimized for high efficiency performance and an accurate design technique allowed us to achieve a power added efficiency of 42% with good noise power ratio figure. These performance make this device suitable for K-Band commercial satellite systems as part of antenna element array.

The effectiveness of second harmonic manipulation for power performance improvement at millimeter-wave frequencies is experimentally demonstrated. The new power amplifier stage clearly demonstrates superior performance with respect to a standard tuned load approach, both in terms of output power and power-added efficiency. Moreover, the IM3 test showed no significant differences in the two cases.

A three stages GaAs MMIC power amplifier in MESFET Technology for point to point radio application that delivers an output power greater than 125 mW, with associated gain higher than 19 dB has been developed. The use of bias feed bonding wires as tuning element has been exploited to shorten the design cycle time and to optimize the circuit performance in the desired frequency bandwidth. The device has a power added efficiency greater than 15% at 1 dB of compression in the frequency bandwidth from 21.2 to 23.6 GHz. A pilot test for production has demonstrated the repetitivity of the good performance and the device has been accepted for large volume production after the first design cycle.

Cytoreductive resection (RST), chemohyperthermic peritoneal perfusion (CHPP) and/or intra-aortic chemotherapy (IA-chemo) were performed for peritoneal dissemination in gastric cancer. Ninety-six patients with peritoneal dissemination were grouped into tubercular (TB), 40; nodular (ND), 31; diffuse (DF) type, 19; and others, 6, respectively, by the gross findings. Sixty-three patients underwent RST. Fifty-nine patients received CHPP by 10-liter heated saline. Thirty patients underwent intra-aortic catheterization for the IA-chemo.
