The violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality for bipartite systems is discussed by making use of the pseudospin operators which enable us to group all modes of the Hilbert space of the system in pairs. We point out that a single pair can be already employed to perform a test of the Bell-CHSH inequality in order to check out its violation. The mechanism is illustrated with the help of $N00N$ states as well as with coherent and squeezed states., 8 pages, expanded version

A relativistic Quantum Field Theory framework is devised for Mermin's inequalities. By employing smeared Dirac spinor fields, we are able to introduce unitary operators which create, out of the Minkowski vacuum $\vert 0 \rangle$, GHZ-type states. In this way, we are able to obtain a relation between the expectation value of Mermin's operators in the vacuum and in the GHZ-type states. We show that Mermin's inequalities turn out to be maximally violated when evaluated on these states., Comment: 8 pages, minor changes, results unchanged

The renormalization properties of two local gauge invariant composite operators $(O,R^a_{\mu})$ corresponding, respectively, to the gauge invariant description of the Higgs particle and of the massive gauge vector boson, are analyzed to all orders in perturbation theory by means of the algebraic renormalization in the $SU(2)$ Higgs model, with a single scalar in the fundamental representation, when quantized in the Landau gauge in Euclidean space-time. The present analysis generalizes earlier results presented in the case of the $U(1)$ Higgs model. A powerful global Ward identity, related to an exact custodial symmetry, is derived for the first time, with deep consequences at the quantum level. In particular, the gauge invariant vector operators $R^a_{\mu}$ turn out to be the conserved Noether currents of the above-mentioned custodial symmetry. As such, these composite operators do not renormalize, as expressed by the fact that the renormalization $Z$-factors of the corresponding external sources, needed to define the operators $R^a_{\mu}$ at the quantum level, do not receive any quantum corrections. Another consistency feature of our analysis is that the longitudinal component of the two-point correlation function $\langle R^a_\mu(p) R^b_\nu(-p) \rangle$ exhibits only a tree level non-vanishing contribution which, moreover, is momentum independent, being thus not associated to any physical propagating mode. Finally, we point out that the renowned non-renormalization theorem for the ghost-antighost-vector boson vertex in Landau gauge remains true to all orders, also in presence of the Higgs field.

With the introduction of shadow fields, we demonstrate the renormalizability of the N=4 super-Yang--Mills theory in component formalism, independently of the choice of UV regularization. Remarkably, by using twisted representations, one finds that the structure of the theory and its renormalization is determined by a subalgebra of supersymmetry that closes off-shell. Starting from this subalgebra of symmetry, we prove some features of the superconformal invariance of the theory. We give a new algebraic proof of the cancellation of the $\beta$ function and we show the ultraviolet finiteness of the 1/2 BPS operators at all orders in perturbation theory. In fact, using the shadow field as a Maurer--Cartan form, the invariant polynomials in the scalar fields in traceless symmetric representations of the internal R-symmetry group are simply related to characteristic classes. However, the quantization process of such theories reveals the necessity of introduce some elements and special conditions in the starting action, in order to take care of the presence of divergences in the perturbative expansion. One of these conditions, also known as a gauge fixing condition, requires that the gauge field must obey a certain restriction, in order to filter only one configuration from all equivalent configurations. Later, with the birth of supersymmetry as the best approach to a physics beyond the standard model, the supersymmetric version of the Yang-Mills theories emerges. Such version suffers from the same problems of the non-supersymmetric case, and therefore, it is necessary to introduce a gauge condition for superfields as well. In this work, we will develop a supersymmetric formulation of a very specific gauge known as the maximal Abelian gauge. Furthermore, we will show the algebraic proof of the renormalization of a super Yang-Mills theory in this gauge. Com o advento das teorias de Yang-Mills, originalmente formuladas em meados dos anos 50, novas linhas de pesquisa relacionada ao universo das interações fraca, forte e eletromagnética, mediada através de bósons vetoriais de calibre, foram exaustivamente desenvolvidas ao longo dos anos. No entanto, o processo de quantização de tais teorias, revela a necessidade da introdução de certos elementos e condições especiais na ação de partida, no intuito de solucionar as divergências presentes em sua expansão perturbativa. Uma destas condições, também conhecida como condição de fixação de calibre, impõe que o campo de calibre deve obedecer a um determinado vínculo, afim de filtrar apenas uma configuração dentre todas as configurações equivalentes. Mais tarde, com o nascimento da supersimetria como a melhor alternativa para uma física além do modelo padrão, surge a versão supersimétrica da teoria de Yang-Mills. Tal versão padece dos mesmos problemas da sua análoga não supersimétrica, e portanto, é necessário introduzir uma condição de calibre para os supercampos também. Neste trabalho, iremos desenvolver a formulação supersimétrica de um calibre muito específico conhecido como calibre abeliano maximal. Além disso, mostramos a prova algébria da renormalização de uma teoria de super Yang-Mills neste calibre.

The new formulation implies the loss of locality as much of action as of the transformation of BRST itself, but by conveniently introducing auxiliary fields, including one Stuckelberg-type, the locality can be restored, although giving up the polynomiality. We verified the emergence by dynamic effects of mass scales in several dimensions, leading to the refinement of the Gribov-Zwanziger model, associated with the appearance of complex poles and violation of the positivity of the fundamental degrees of freedom of the model, which we interpret as a signal of confinement. We show that due to the special construction of the invariant field, our Stuckelberg field has a special ultraviolet behavior that allows to prove the multiplicative renormalizability to all the orders of the model in its local form. Then, we analyze several consequences of the restitution of the BRST symmetry encoded in the Ward identities of the theory: exact behavior of the longitudinal part of the gluon colon correlator, the gauge-parameter independence of all correlation functions of local BRST-invariant operators and the generalization of the identities of Nielsen. Finally, we use the universal coupling conjecture of the Faddeev-Popov operator with all the fields that carry color to obtain an effective description of the conffinement in matter fields. Nesta tese propomos uma extensão não-perturbativa nilpotente da simetria BRST dentro do cenário da ação de Gribov-Zwanziger tanto nos calibres de Landau, lineares covariantes e maximal Abeliano, ao introduzirmos uma função de horizonte de Zwanziger invariante de BRST por construção, a qual permite-nos resolver (parcialmente) o problema das ambiguidades de Gribov duma maneira explicitamente invariante. A nova formulação implica na perda de localidade tanto da ação quanto da própria transforma de BRST. Mas introduzindo convenientemente campos auxiliares, incluindo um do tipo Stückelberg, a localidade pode ser restituída, embora abrindo mão da polinomialidade. Verificamos o surgimentos por efeitos dinâmicos de escalas de massa em várias dimensões, que levam ao refinamento do modelo de Gribov-Zwanziger, associado ao aparecimento de polos complexos e a violação da positividade dos graus de liberdade fundamentais do modelo, fato que interpretamos como um sinal de confunamento. Mostramos que devido a construção especial do campo invariante, o nosso campo de Stückelberg tem um omportamento ultravioleta especial que permite provar a renormalizabilidade multiplicativa a todas as ordens do modelo na sua forma local. Analisamos depois várias consequências da restituição da simetria BRST codifucadas nas identidades de Ward da teoria: comportamento exato da parte longitudinal do correlator de dois pontos do gluon, independência com respeito ao parâmetro de fixação de calibre dos correlatores de operadores compostos invariantes e generalizamos as identidades de Nielsen. Finalmente, usamos a conjectura de acoplamento universal do operador de Faddeev-Popov com todos os campos que carregam cor para obtermos uma descrição efetiva do confinamento em campos de matéria.

Nós apresentamos algumas evidências formais (matemáticas e físicas) que apontam para um comportamento dos campos de matéria similar ao comportamento dos campos de calibre em regimes de energias suficientemente baixas (ou seja, no limite infra-vermelho). Em outras palavras, argumentamos que os efeitos do problema de Gribov no setor de calibre do Modelo Padrão é refletido no setor de matéria, por meio de um mecanismo ainda desconhecido. Esse reflexo é abordado por um termo não linear, semelhante ao termo não-local do horizonte de Gribov, que aparenta dar conta dos aspectos não-perturbativos dos campos de matéria no regime infra-vermelho. The present thesis is devoted to the study of aspects of the Gribov problem in Euclidean Yang-Mills theories coupled to matter fields. We present some formal (mathematical and phy sical) evidences that point to a similar dynamic behavior of the matter field in comparison with the gauge field in regimes of sufficiently low energy (i.e. the infrared regime). In other words, we claim that an effect of the Gribov problem in the gauge sector is refleted in the matter sector, by means of an unknown mechanism. Such reflection is treated as a non-local term in the matter sector, similar to the non-local Gribov horizon term for the gluons, which seems to account for non-perturbative aspects of the matter field at infrared regime.

We study the soft breaking, the linear breaking and spontaneous breaking, all of BRST symmetry. In the standard formulation of the model, broken softly, we built the replica model used to estimate the values of the glueballs' masses. Using auxiliary fields, we built a linearly broken model, and using basically the same procedure, a newer formulation where the symmetry is broken spontaneously. Nesta tese falamos essencialmente sobre a simetria BRST no modelo de Gribov-Zwanziger. Estudamos a quebra suave, a quebra linear e a quebra espontânea, todas da simetria BRST. Na formulação padrão do modelo, quebrada suavemente, construímos o modelo de réplica usado para estimar os valores das massas das glueballs. Utilizando campos auxiliares construímos um modelo quebrado linearmente, e utilizando basicamente o mesmo procedimento, uma formulação mais recente onde a simetria é quebrada espontâneamente.

The variety of prescriptions available to define it difficults the development of general tools for its characterization. In this thesis, we study equilibrium properties of Markovian multiplicative white-noise processes. For this, we define the time reversal transformation for this kind of processes, taking into account that the asymptotic stationary probability distribution depends on the prescription. We deduce a functional formalism to derive a generating functional for correlation and response functions of a multiplicative stochastic process represented by a Langevin equation. Representing the stochastic process in this functional (Grassmann) formalism, we avoid the necessity of fixing a particular prescription. In this framework, we analyze equilibrium properties and study hidden symmetries of the process. We show that, using a careful definition of equilibrium distribution and taking into account the appropriate time reversal transformation, usual equilibrium properties are satisfied for any prescription. Finally, we present a detailed deduction of a covariant supersymmetric formulation of a multiplicativeMarkovian white-noise process and study some of the constraints it imposes on correlation functions using Ward-Takahashi identities. Os processos estocásticos com ruído branco multiplicativo são objeto de atenção constante em uma grande área da pesquisa científica. A variedade de prescrições possíveis para definir matematicamente estes processos oferece um obstáculo ao desenvolvimento de ferramentas gerais para seu tratamento. Na presente tese, estudamos propriedades de equilíbrio de processos markovianos com ruído branco multiplicativo. Para conseguirmos isto, definimos uma transformação de reversão temporal de tais processos levando em conta que a distribuição estacionária de probabilidade depende da prescrição. Deduzimos um formalismo funcional visando obter o funcional gerador das funções de correlação e resposta de um processo estocástico multiplicativo representado por uma equação de Langevin. Ao representar o processo estocástico neste formalismo (de Grassmann) funcional eludimos a necessidade de fixar uma prescrição particular. Neste contexto, analisamos as propriedades de equilíbrio e estudamos as simetrias ocultas do processo. Mostramos que, usando uma definição apropriada da distribuição de equilíbrio e considerando a transformação de reversão temporal adequada, as propriedades usuais de equilíbrio são satisfeitas para qualquer prescrição. Finalmente, apresentamos uma dedução detalhada da formulação supersimétrica covariante de um processo markoviano com ruído branco multiplicativo e estudamos algumas das relações impostas pelas funções de correlação através das identidades de Ward-Takahashi.

A key aspect is what is known as IR/UV mixing of divergences,which was first observed by Minwalla et al [28], who studied the non-commutative scalar field with quartic interaction. In this work, at 1 loop analisys, the mixing was seen in the tadpole, which has 2 contributions: nonplanar graph carries the IR divergence and the planar graph carries the UV divergence. This fact makes the theory nonrenormalizable. Due to this problem, mechanisms have been proposed to decouple both regimes to end up with renormalizable theories. One of these mechanisms is the addition of a nonlocal term on the U*(1) action to be stable. In this work we study, following the approach of algebraic renormalization, the stability of this model. We therefore need to localize the nonlocal operator through auxiliary fields and its ghosts (Zwanziger s method) intending to withdraw the spurious degrees of freedom. We use the soft breaking approach to analize the term that breaks the BRST symmetry rewriting it with a set of external sources in a BRST doublet in such a way that the original term is obtained when we set the sources to their physical values. As a result, we have seen that the theory with the addition of this term in the action is only renormalizable if we introduce new terms, some of them being quartic, but these terms change the form of the propagator so that they don t decouple the regimes. Another aspect that we noticed is that, depending on the choice of some parameters, the propagator gives clues of a confining photon , following the criterion of Wilson and the criterion of loss of positivity of the propagator. Os aspectos quânticos de teorias de campo formuladas no espaço-tempo não comutativo têm sido amplamente estudados ao longo dos anos. Um dos principais aspectos é o que na literatura ficou conhecido como mixing IR/UV. Trata-se de uma mistura das divergências, que foi vista pela primeira vez no trabalho de Minwalla et al [28], onde num estudo do campo escalar não comutativo com interação quártica vemos já a 1 loop que o tadpole tem uma divergência UV associada a sua parte planar e, junto com ela, temos uma divergência IR associada com um gráfico não planar. Essa mistura torna a teoria não renormalizável. Dado tal problema, houve então uma busca por mecanismos que separassem essas divergências a fim de termos teorias renormalizáveis. Um mecanismo proposto foi a adição de um termo não local na ação U*(1) para que esta seja estável.Neste trabalho, estudamos através da renormalização algébrica a estabilidade deste modelo. Para tal, precisamos localizar o operador não local através de campos auxiliares e seus respectivos ghosts (metodo de Zwanziger) na intenção de retirar os graus de liberdade indesejados que surgem. Usamos o approach da quebra soft de BRST para analisar o termo que quebra BRST, que consiste em reescrevermos tal termo com o auxílio de fontes externas que num determinado limite físico voltam ao termo original.Como resultado, vimos que a teoria com a adição deste termo na ação só é renormalizável se tivermos que introduzir novos termos, sendo alguns deles quárticos. Porém, estes termos mudam a forma do propagador, que não desacopla as divergências. Um outro aspecto que podemos salientar é que, dependendo da escolha de alguns parâmetros, o propagador dá indícios de termos um fóton confinante, seguindo o critério de Wilson e o critério da perda da positividade do propagador.

Such effects are introduced in a way to preserve the properties of renormalizability and locality of the theory. The comparison with the lattice data indicates a good qualitative agreement. Neste tese, estudamos os efeitos não perturbativos associados à presença do horizonte de Gribov e à condensação de operadores locais de dimensão dois, numa teoria de Yang-Mills euclidiana em SU(2), quantizada no calibre abeliano maximal. Estes efeitos são introduzidos de modo a preservar as propriedades de renormalizabilidade e localidade da teoria, e refletem-se diretamente no comportamento dos propagadores. A comparação com os dados da rede indicam um bom acordo qualitativo.

In particular, we investigate the dynamical mass generation for the gluons due to the presence of dimension two condensates. This study is performed in the framework of the local composite operator technique in the case of the Yang-Mills action as well as in the case of the Gribov-Zwanziger action. Further, an investigation of the Gribov ambiguities in the linear covariant gauges is presented. In the case of the Yang-Mills action, we perform a detailed analysis of the local composite operator formalism when the operators Aa¹Aa¹ and fabc¹cbcc are simultaneously introduced. Using the algebraic renormalization theory, we prove the renormalizability of the model trough all orders in perturbation theory. With the help of the renormalization group equations, a quantum efective action for the condensates and is constructed. This construction is performed by means of the dimensional regularization in the MS renormalization scheme. We show that non vanishing condensates values are dynamically favored, independently of the chosen scale. Explicit one loop computations are then presented, providing estimates for the condensates as well as for the vacuum energy. With the help of suitable Ward identities, we are able to normally show that the presence of the condensate is responsible for the breaking of the transversality of the vacuum polarization. However, the gluon propagator remains transverse, trough all orders in perturbation theory. Finally, we end this analysis with the explicit computation of the one loop correction to the efective gluon mass. The result is that, due to the condensate , the Abelian and the non Abelian sectors acquire diferent masses. Since the non Abelian mass is larger than the Abelian one, this feature can be interpreted as an evidence for the Abelian dominance principle in the Landau gauge. With respect to the Gribov-Zwanziger action, we start our analysis without taking into account the condensate. We show that, at one loop order, the vacuum energy is always positive, independently of the renormalization scheme and scale. We also present attempts to solve the one and two loops horizon condition in the MS scheme, and also the respective obstacles of it. Later, using the algebraic renormalization theory, we show, to all orders in perturbation theory, the renormalizability of the Gribov-Zwanziger action when the composite operator Aa¹Aa¹ is included in the framework of the local composite operator technique. Attempts to solve the one loop gap equations in the MS scheme are then presented. We show that there are no solutions for < 0 while for 0 there is only one possible solution for the horizon condition. However, in the MS scheme, we were not able to find explicitly that solution. As an improvement, an optimization of the renormalization scheme is performed in the sense of minimizing the renormalization scheme dependence. In that approach the MS limit solution was found as well as the solution with minimal dependence on the renormalization scheme. In both cases, the vacuum energy shows itself to be positive while the condensate > 0. A discussion of the consequences of a nonvanishing Gribov parameter is then provided. Finally, we present a study of the Gribov ambiguities in the linear covariant gauges for the case α<. Further, diferently of the Landau gauge, the ghost propagator is not related to the appearance of long range forces. Instead, an infrared singular Green function related to the Gribov horizon is identifed. This Green function can be associated with long range forces. At the end, all Landau gauge results can be recovered taking the limit α→0. Alguns aspectos não perturbativos das teorias de Yang-Mills puras em quatro dimensões Euclideanas, quantizadas no calibre de Landau, são estudados analiticamente. Por pura entendemos a teoria na ausência de matéria (férmions). Em particular, ivestigamos a geração dinâmica de massa para os gluons devido a presença de condensados de dimensão dois. Este estudo é feito utilizando a técnica de operadores locais compostos no caso da ação de Yang-Mills, bem como, no caso da ação de Gribov-Zwanziger. Além deste estudo, uma investigação sobre as ambigüidades de Gribov nos calibres lineares covariantes é apresentada. No caso da ação de Yang-Mills, fizemos uma análise detalhada da técnica de opera-dores locais compostos quando introduzidos, simultaneamente, os operadores AμaAμa e fabcc*bcc. Através da teoria da renormalização algébrica, provamos a renormalizabilidade do modelo a todas as ordens em teoria de perturbações. Com o auxílio das equações do grupo de renormalização uma ação quântica efetiva é construída para os condensados e . Esta construção é feita utilizando a regularização dimensional em conjunto com o esquema de renormalização MS. Mostramos que um valor não trivial para estes condensados é favorecido dinamicamente, independentemente da escala escolhida. Cálculos explícitos, a um laço, são apresentados fornecendo estimativas numéricas para estes condensados e para a energia do vácuo. Através de um estudo via identidades de Ward, somos capazes de mostrar formalmente que a presença do condensado Overhauser, , é responsável pela quebra de transversalidade da polarização do vácuo. Contudo, o propagador do glúon permanece transverso, a todas as ordens em teorias de perturbações. Finalmente, esta análise é terminada com o cálculo explícito da correção, a um laço, à massa do glúon, devido a presença destes condensados. O resultado é que existe uma quebra na degenerescência da massa entre gluons Abelianos e não Abelianos. Esta quebra, devido a massa não Abeliana ser maior que a Abeliana, pode ser interpretada como uma evidência da dominância Abeliana no calibre de Landau. Com relação à ação de Gribov-Zwanziger sem a inclusão de condensados, começamos por efetuar cálculos explícitos. Mostramos formalmente que, a um laço, a energia do vácuo será sempre positiva, independentemente do esquema de renormalização escolhido e da escala. Apresentamos uma discussão sobre a procura de soluções da condição de horizonte no esquema MS, a um e dois laços, e as respectivas dificuldades encontradas. Em seguida, mostramos, através da teoria de renormalização algébrica, que a inclusão do operador AμaAμa na ação de Gribov-Zwanziger via o formalismo LCO é renormalizável a todas as ordens em teoria de perturbações. Tentativas de resolver as equações de gap são apresentadas no esquema de renormalização MS a um laço. Mostramos formalmente que, para a condição de horizonte, não existem soluções para < 0 e somente uma solução para > 0 pode existir. Contudo, no esquema MS, não fomos capazes de encontrar esta solução explicitamente. Desta forma, uma aprimoração do esquema de renormalização é feita de forma a minimizar a dependência no esquema escolhido. Nesta otimização encontramos a solução no limite MS bem como para o caso em que a dependência no esquema de renormalização é mínima. Em ambos os casos, a energia do vácuo se mostra positiva e o condensado > 0. Após os cálculos explícitos, uma discussão sobre as conseqüências físicas de um parâmetro de Gribov não nulo é apresentada. Finalmente, apresentamos um estudo das ambiguidades de Gribov nos calibres lineares covariantes para o caso em que α<. Ainda, diferentemente do calibre de Landau, o propagador dos campos fantasmas não apresenta conexão com forças de longo alcance. Em contrapartida, uma função de Green singular no infravermelho, relacionada ao horizonte, é identificada e pode ser associada a forças de longo alcance. Por fim, todos os resultados do calibre de Landau são recuperados no limite α→0..

Uma superrede de líquidos de Luttinger composta por um arranjo periódico de dois líquidos de Luttinger diferentes é considerada e encontramos que suas propriedades são uma mistura das propriedades dos líquidos constituintes dependendo da proporção espacial em que estejam. O peso de Drude é dado pelo produto da velocidade efetiva de carga e o expoente de correlação efetivo de carga, como no caso homogêneo. As leis de escala entre os expoentes nas funções de correlação não são alteradas pela estrutura da superrede. As propriedades de baixa energia de uma superede de Hubbard unidimensional (arranjo periódico de duas cadeias de Hubbard com acoplamentos e/ou "hoppings" diferentes) e uma superrede de spins (arranjo periódico de duas cadeias XXZ de spin -½ com parâmetros de anisotropia diferentes) são descritas em termos de uma superrede de líquidos de Luttinger. Para as superedes de Hubbard encontramos que o estado fundamental apresenta várias fases: metálicas e isolantes, as últimas sem gap (compressíveis). As superredes de spin apresentam platôs na magnetização que dependem da proporção espacial em que estejam as cadeias. O modelo de Wolff é generalizado e estudado via bosonização. Uma análise de grupo de renormalização é feita e, até primeira ordem, três fases são encontradas: condutor de carga e isolante de spin, condutor perfeito e isolante perfeito. Em segunda ordem, linhas de pontos fixos instáveis são encontradas Abstract: In this work, we study inhomogeneous strongly correlated electron systems. A Luttinger liquid superlattice, modeled by a repeated pattern of two different Luttinger liquids was considered. We find that the effective low-energy description amalgamates features of both types of liquids in proportion to their spatial extent. The Drude peak is given by the product of the effective charge velocity and the effective exponent in the charge-charge correlation function. The scaling laws between the exponents of the correlation functions are maintained, but with effective exponents. The low-energy properties of a one-dimensional Hubbard superlattice (which consists of a periodic arrangement of two long Hubbard chains with different couplings and di.erent hoppings) and spin superlattices (consisting of a repeated pattern of two long spin -½ XXZ chains, with different anisotropy parameters) are described in terms of Luttinger liquid superlattices. One-dimensional Hubbard superlattices exhibit a very rich phase diagram with several different phases: metallic and insulating, the latter with no gap (compressible). Non-trivial plateaux, with magnetization depending of the relative sizes of the chains, were found in spin superlattices. We generalized and studied the Wolff model using bosonization. From a renormalization group calculation we found three phases (in first order of perturbation theory): charge conductor and spin insulator, perfect conductor and perfect insulator.
