Background Traumatic avulsion injuries to the anus, although uncommon, can result in serious complications and even death. Management of anal avulsion injuries remains controversial and challenging. This study aimed to investigate the clinical effects of treating large skin and subcutaneous tissue avulsion injuries in the perianal, sacral, and perineal regions with island flaps or skin graft combined with vacuum assisted closure. Methods Island flaps or skin graft combined with vacuum assisted closure, diverting ileostomy, the rectum packed with double-lumen tubes around Vaseline gauze, negative pressure drainage with continuous distal washing, wounds with skin grafting as well as specialized treatment were performed. Results The injuries healed in all patients. Six cases had incomplete perianal avulsion without wound infection. Wound infection was seen in four cases with annular perianal avulsion and was controlled, and the separated prowl lacuna was closed. The survival rate in 10 patients who underwent skin grafting was higher than 90%. No anal stenosis was observed after surgery, and ileostomy closure was performed at 3 months (six cases) and 6 months (four cases) after surgery, respectively. Conclusions Covering a wound with an island flap or skin graft combined with vacuum assisted closure is successful in solving technical problems, protects the function of the anus and rapidly seals the wound at the same time.

The deep levels of carbon doped high resistivity (HR) GaN samples grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) has been investigated using thermally stimulated current (TSC) spectroscopy and high temperature (HT) Hall measurement. Two different thickness of 100 and 300 nm were used to be compared. It was found that four distinct deep levels by TSC and one deep level by HT Hall measurement were observed in both samples, which means great help for the decrease of leakage current and lifetime limitations of device utilizing the structure. The activation energy of these levels was calculated and their possible origins were also proposed. The low temperature traps, might be related to VN, 0.50 and 0.52eV related to incorporate a high level carbon, 0.57eV related to VGa, 0.59eV related to CGaor NGa, 0.91 and 0.97eV related to interstitial N1.

Cu 2 S film electrode direct growth on Cu foil is prepared by a simple hydrothermal approach. The electrochemical properties of the as-prepared Cu 2 S electrode are investigated via conventional discharge and charge tests. When applying a current density of 0.1 mA cm − 2 , the as-prepared Cu 2 S electrode exhibits discharge and charge capacity of 0.27, 0.32, 0.35, 0.34 and 0.34 mAh cm − 2 at the 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th and 500th cycle, respectively. Such good performance of the as-prepared Cu 2 S electrode is attributed to the fine electric contact between Cu 2 S and Cu foil and the possible hollow structure of Cu 2 S film.

The effects of the image potential on electronic and hydrogenic impurity states in a quantum box are investigated using the variational approach. The results show that when the image potential is considered, the variations in ground electronic energy and impurity-binding energy are considerable, especially when the dimensions of quantum box become small. The results also show that the effects of impurity ion image potential on impurity-binding energy are much larger than those of electron image potential.

Considering the image potential, we calculate the binding energies of a shallow donor impurity placed on the centre of a quantum box using the variational approach. The results we have obtained show that there is a great difference of the effects of image potential between the cases including impurity ion image potential and including the image potentials of impurity ion and electron simultaneously. The results also show that the image potential is important, especially when the dimensions of quantum box become small.

Third-harmonic-generation processes in crystals are governed by the fourth-rank tensor ((3))(Xijkl), which reflects the crystal symmetry. In this case, the third-order nonlinear susceptibility tensor can be contracted to the compact matrix form ((3))(Xim). The matrices ((3))(Xim) for isotropic media and all 32 crystallographic point groups are presented. With these matrices, the analytic expressions of third-order effective nonlinear susceptibility can be easily derived.

By analyzing the phase mismatch in the different frequency generation of noncollinear alignment, we obtain the condition in which noncritical phase matching can be realized. The relevant equation for determining the optimum angles between the incident beams is derived. The calculated result agrees exactly with the experimental one.

By Hyper-Rayleigh Light Scattering (HLS) experiments, we obtained the first-order hyperpolarizabilities (beta) for a series of 1D polyeno-dipolar and C3h polyenoctupolar molecules. Theoretically, we applied the additive model to analyze (beta) for multipolar nonlinear optical (NLO) molecules. The hyperpolarizability is dissected into an additive term and an interaction term, and the equations for evaluating the additive (beta) A and interaction (beta) I terms were derived for multipolar molecules. The structure and substituent effects were analyzed for various planar C3h and C2v multipolar molecules, based on the calculation results of the (beta) ijk from a CNDO/S program.
