Frequency-selective rasorbers (FSRs), which have absorptive and transmissive properties at different frequencies, are crucial in a wide range of applications in communication and radar engineering. However, the FSRs currently available usually exhibit a single high-performance transmission band, which cannot meet the rising demands for modern multiband communication/radar systems. In this article, we propose a dual-band frequency-selective rasorber that utilizes a cascaded metasurface and is designed with an equivalent circuit model and parameter optimization. In addition, a prototype dual-band frequency-selective rasorber is fabricated and characterized. Microwave measurements present two highly transparent peaks located near 11.5 and 17.5 GHz with an insertion loss of around 0.5 dB. Also, there are two absorption bands with absorptivities higher than 80% at 3.9–10.2 GHz and 13–15 GHz. Such low insertion loss for both transparent bands is achieved by optimizing the position of resistors through mode analysis. Our approach facilitates the manufacture of high-performance multi-band frequency-selective rasorbers for use in multi-band communication systems.

In this paper, we design a metasurface with low-frequency transmission and high-FREQUENCY absorption characteristics by combining the low-frequency transmission structure with the high-frequency absorption structure which is loaded with lumped resistance element. The simulation results show that the metasurface has a high transmittance than 80% from 0 to 0.8 GHz, and the absorption rate is greater than 90% from 8 to 18 GHz. We fabricate the sample and verified the high-frequency absorption performance, the experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results.

Many of pyridine compounds are considered as typical hazardous refractory organics due to their acute toxic properties and teratogenic effects. Therefore, it is great significant to develop a separation technology with the characters of low energy consumption and environmental compatibility to efficiently remove pyridine from its wastewater. In this work, foam fractionation was used to remove pyridine from its wastewater and a novel foam fractionation column was designed for enhancing interfacial adsorption by vertical sieve tray and strengthening foam drainage by floating tongue type tray, in which bubble diameter was monitored for adjusting feeding flow rate and air flow rate in the continuous foam fractionation process. By comparing the foam properties and the adsorption properties of three anionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate, sodium alcohol ether sulfate and sodium alpha-olefin sulfonate), sodium dodecyl sulfate was chosen as the optimal collector to remove pyridine at pH 4.5. Under the optimal operating conditions, the enrichment ratio and removal percentage of pyridine could reach as high as 34.5 and 90.2%, simultaneously. Above results indicated that foam fractionation was a practicable technology to efficiently remove a hazardous material from its wastewater by designing an effective foam fractionation column.

This paper presents a design method for S-band transmission and X-band absorption rasorber metasurface. This absorption is achieved by loading a lumped element in the metasurface. According to the simulation results, the designed structure has a transmittance of more than 80% in 0 ∼ 2.6 GHz and absorption rate of 80% in 8 ~ 14 GHz, the maximum absorption rate is more than 90% in 9 ∼ 14 GHz, the metasurface will have great application value in the stealth field. And its structure is simple, weight is light and easy to fabricate.

The transmissive metasurface has important applications in many fields. So its design,fabrication and measurement have become a research hotspot in related fields. However, during the measurements in practice, it is usually found that the measured transmittance (T) suffers from abnormal fluctuations in the designed high transmittance frequency band, which are quite different from the simulation results. In this paper, we analysis the main causes of this phenomenon and presents a simple solution — the time domain gate. The results show that the proposed scheme can well solve the fluctuations caused in the measurement.

Nanoparticulate antitumor photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been suffering from the limited dose accumulation in tumor. Herein, we report dually hypoxia- and singlet oxygen-responsive polymeric micelles to efficiently utilize the photosensitizer deposited in the disease site and hence facilely improve PDT's antitumor efficacy. Tailored methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-azobenzene-poly(aspartic acid) copolymer conjugate with imidazole as the side chains was synthesized. The conjugate micelles (189 ± 19 nm) obtained by self-assembly could efficiently load a model photosensitizer, chlorin e6 (Ce6) with a loading of 4.1 ± 0.5% (w/w). The facilitated cellular uptake of micelles was achieved by the triggered azobenzene collapse that provoked poly(ethylene glycol) shedding; rapid Ce6 release was enabled by imidazole oxidation that induced micelle disassembly. In addition, the singlet oxygen-mediated cargo release not only addressed the limited diffusion range and short half-life of singlet oxygen but also decreased the oxygen level, which could in turn enhance internalization and increase the intracellular Ce6 concentration. The hypoxia-induced dePEGylation and singlet oxygen-triggered Ce6 release was demonstrated both in aqueous buffer and in Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) cells. The cellular uptake study demonstrated that the dually responsive micelles could deliver significantly more Ce6 to the cells, which resulted in a substantially improved cytotoxicity. This concurred well with the superior in vivo antitumor ability of micelles in a LLC tumor-bearing mouse model. This study presented an intriguing nanoplatform to realize interactively triggered photosensitizer delivery and improved antitumor PDT efficacy.

Redox-responsive micelles are versatile nanoplatforms for on-demand drug delivery, but the in situ evaluation of drug release is challenging. Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) technique shows potential for addressing this, while the aggregation-caused quenching effect limits the assay sensitivity. The aim of the current work is to combine aggregation-induced emission (AIE) probe with FRET to realize drug release assessment from micelles. Tetraphenylethene (TPE) is selected as AIE dye and curcumin (Cur) is chosen as the model drug as well as FRET receptor. The drug is covalently linked to a block copolymer via the disulfide bond linker and TPE is also chemically linked to the polymer via an amide bond; the obtained amphiphilic polymer conjugate self-assembles into micelles with a hydrodynamic size of ≈125 nm. Upon the supplement of glutathione or tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine) trigger (10 × 10-3 m), the drug release induces the fluorescence increase of both TPE and Cur. Accompanied with the FRET decay, absorption enhancement and particle size increase are observed. The same phenomenon is observed in MCF-7 cells. The FRET-AIE approach can be a useful addition to the spectrum of available methods for monitoring drug release from stimuli-responsive nanomedicine.
