The authors used the finite element method to establish a technique to precisely evaluate the axial force, expansion, and contraction of rails in areas with turnouts in succession integrated with a CWR on ballasted track laid on an earth roadbed or on ballastless track of viaduct. An on-site test was carried out in a CWR track section where 2 turnouts are located in succession integrated with a CWR on a ballasted track, and the test results were compared with the analytical results. This technique was applied to analysis of the rail axial force characteristics of a CWR connected with a turnout directly fastened to viaducts, and the relationship between girder bridge length, girder arrangement, and axial force in rails was clarified.
