We report an electrochemical protocol for the synthesis of hemiaminal ethers by phosphorous acid–assisted α-C(sp3)–H/N–H cross-coupling reactions of THF and sulfonamides or amides.

To manage intra-fractional motions, recent developments in tomotherapy enable a unique capability of adjusting MLC/jaw to track the moving target based on the intra-fractional motions detected by sequential monoscopic imaging. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of motion compensation with a realistic imaging rate for prostate stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). The obtained results will guide optimizing treatment parameters and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) in tomotherapy using this approach.Ten retrospective prostate cases with actual prostate motion curves previously recorded through the Calypso system were used in this study. Based on the recorded peak-to-peak motion, these cases represented either large ( 5 mm) or median (≤ 5 mm) intra-fractional prostate motions. All the cases were re-planned on tomotherapy using 35 Gy/5 fractions SBRT regimen and three different jaw settings of 1 cm static, 2.5 cm static, and 2.5 cm dynamic jaw. Two motion compensation methods were evaluated: a complete compensation that adjusted the jaw and MLC every 0.1 s (the same rate as the Calypso motion trace), and a realistic compensation that adjusted the jaw and MLC at an average imaging interval of 6 s from sequential monoscopic images. An in-house 4D dose calculation software was then applied to calculate the dosimetric outcomes from the original motion-free plan, the motion-contaminated plan, and the two abovementioned motion-compensated plans. During the process, various imaging rates were also simulated in one case with unusually large motions to quantify the impact of the KV-imaging rate on the effectiveness of motion compensation.The effectiveness of motion compensation was evaluated based on the PTV coverage and OAR sparing. Without any motion-compensation, the PTV coverage (PTV V100%) of patients with large prostate motions decreased remarkably to 55%-82% when planning with the 1 cm jaw but to a less level of 67-94% with the 2.5 cm jaw. In contrast, motion compensation improved the PTV coverage (92%) when combined with the 2.5 cm jaw, but less effective, around 75%-94%, with the 1 cm jaw. For OAR sparing, the bladder D1cc, bladder D10cc, and rectum D1cc all increased in the motion-contaminated plans. Motion compensation improved OAR sparing to the equivalent level of the original motion-free plans. For patients with median prostate motion, motion-induced degradation in PTV coverage was only observed when planning with the 1 cm jaw. After motion compensation, the PTV coverage improved to better than 94% for all three jaw settings. Additionally, the effectiveness of motion compensation depends on the imaging rate. Motion compensation with a typical rate of two KV images per gantry rotation effectively reduces motion-induced dosimetric uncertainties. However, a higher imaging rate is recommended when planning with a 1 cm jaw for patients with large motions.Our results demonstrated that the performance of sequential monoscopic imaging-guided motion compensation on tomotherapy depends on the amplitude of intra-fractional prostate motion, the plan parameter settings, especially jaw setting, gantry rotation, and the imaging rate for motion compensation. Creating a patient-specific imaging guidance protocol is essential to balance the effectiveness of motion compensation and achievable imaging rate for intra-fractional motion tracking.

Trained immunity defines long-term memory of innate immunity based on transcriptional, epigenetic, and metabolic modifications of myeloid cells, which are characterized by elevated proinflammatory responses toward homologous or heterologous secondary stimuli in mammals. However, the evidence of trained immunity-associated immune cells and its molecular mechanism in teleost fish remains largely unknown. In this study, we established a trained immunity activation model in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) and found that administration with β-glucan induces protection against a bacterial infection. Through single-cell RNA sequencing to annotate 14 clusters of innate and adaptive immune cells, as well as two clusters of blood cells, from head kidney and spleen, respectively, we characterized that neutrophil displays cardinal features of trained immunity by analyzing the expression abundance of trained immunity database–related genes at the single-cell level. Subsequently, through establishing an in vivo training and in vitro neutrophil challenge model, we found that the trained neutrophils exhibit a significant elevation of the IL-1R signaling pathway after Edwardsiella piscicida infection. Furthermore, inhibition of neutrophil’s IL-1R signaling pathway through anakinra treatment impaired the heightened production of reactive oxygen, nitrogen species, lactate, as well as the neutrophil extracellular traps formation and bacterial killing ability. Taken together, these findings characterized neutrophil as the orchestrator to express features of trained immunity, and revealed that the IL-1R signaling pathway plays a critical role in induction of trained immunity for bacterial clearance in teleost fish.

PurposeAgricultural carbon productivity considers the dual goals of “agricultural economic growth” and “carbon emission reduction”. Improving agricultural carbon productivity is a requirement for promoting green and low-carbon development of agriculture. Agricultural production agglomeration is widespread worldwide, but the relationship between agricultural production agglomeration and agricultural carbon productivity is inconclusive. This paper aims to study the impact of agricultural production agglomeration on agricultural carbon productivity, which is conducive to a better understanding of the relationships among agglomeration, agricultural economic development and carbon emission, better planning of agricultural layout to build a modern agricultural industrial system and achieve the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.Design/methodology/approachBased on China's provincial data from 1991 to 2019, this paper uses non-radial directional distance function (NDDF) and Metafrontier Malmquist–Luenberger (MML) productivity index to measure total factor agricultural carbon productivity. Subsequently, using a panel two-way fixed effect model to study the effect and mechanism of agricultural production agglomeration on agricultural carbon productivity, and the two-stage least squares method (IV-2SLS) is used to solve endogeneity. Finally, this paper formulates a moderating effect model from the perspective of the efficiency of agricultural material capital inputs.FindingsThe empirical results identify that Chinese provincial agricultural carbon productivity has an overall growth trend and agricultural technological progress is the major source of growth. There is an inverted U-shaped relationship between agricultural production agglomeration and agricultural carbon productivity. The input efficiency of agricultural film, machine and water resources have moderating effects on the inverted U-shaped relationship. Agricultural production agglomeration also promotes agricultural carbon productivity by inhibiting agricultural carbon emissions in addition to affecting agricultural input factors and its internal mechanisms are agricultural green technology progress and rural human capital improvement.Originality/valueThis paper innovatively adopts the NDDF–MML method to measure the total factor agricultural carbon productivity more scientifically and accurately and solves the problems of ignoring group heterogeneity and the shortcomings of traditional productivity measurement in previous studies. This paper also explains the inverted U-shaped relationship between agricultural production agglomeration and agricultural carbon productivity theoretically and empirically. Furthermore, from the perspective of agricultural material capital input efficiency, this paper discusses the moderating effect of input efficiency of fertilizers, pesticides, agricultural film, agricultural machines and water resources on agricultural production agglomeration affecting agricultural carbon productivity and answers the mechanism of carbon emission reduction of agricultural production agglomeration.

Laser-driven coherent phonons can act as modulated strain fields and modify the adiabatic ground state topology of quantum materials. We use time-dependent first-principles and effective model calculations to simulate the effect of a strong terahertz electric field on electronic carriers in the topological insulator ZrTe$_5$. We show that a coherent $A_\text{1g}$ Raman mode modulation can effectively pump carriers across the band gap, even though the phonon energy is about an order of magnitude smaller than the equilibrium band gap. We reveal the microscopic mechanism of this effect which occurs via Landau-Zener-St\"uckelberg tunneling of Bloch electrons in a narrow region in the Brillouin zone center where the transient energy gap closes when the system switches from strong to weak topological insulator. Purpose: Wire tension band technique, as a widely accepted strategy for the treatment of patellar fractures, is undergoing constant improvement. This study aims to assess the clinical effect of a modified wire tension band technique for treatment of comminuted displaced patellar fractures. Methods: From January 2015 to December 2021, 97 adult patients (52 males and 45 females) with comminuted displaced patellar fractures were treated with wire tension band technique in our department. The age ranged from 18 to 68 years old with an average of 39 years old. All patients had single closed comminuted displaced patellar fractures and all were treated with open reduction internal fixation. There were 58 patients in the modified wire tension band group (The MW group) and 39 patients included in the Kirschner wire tension band group (The KW group). Operating time, intraoperative bleeding, length of hospital stay, postoperative follow-up, fracture healing time, and knee motion and function scores were recorded and compared between the two groups. The incidence of postoperative complications such as non-union of the fracture, infection, failure of the internal fixation, re-fracture, and broken of the internal fixation were recorded and evaluated. Operative time, intraoperative blood loss, post-operative clinical outcomes and radiographic results were recorded and analyzed. VAS (Preoperative and last follow-up scores in the Visual Analogue Scale) and Böstman scale were recorded and evaluated. Results: There were no significant differences in basic information such as age, gender, BMI, mechanism of injury, history of smoking and alcohol, injured limb and follow-up time in the MW group compared to the KW group. Intraoperative time (49.91±3.88, min ) in the MW group was significantly lower than intraoperative time (67.64±4.27, min) in the KW group and the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05). In the MW group (102.59±10.01, ml), intraoperative blood loss was significantly lower than in the KW group (126.41±13.86, ml), and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P＜0.05). The intraoperative time of fluoroscopy in the MW group was (8.14±1.82, s), which was lower than the intraoperative time of fluoroscopy in the KW group (10.41±1.67, s), and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P＜0.05). The hospital days were also significantly shorter in the MW group (6.07±1.23, d) than in the KW group (6.79±1.42, d). The difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of fracture healing time, mobility, VAS score and Böstman score after surgery. There were no complications such as infection or non-healing fractures. However, there were 2 cases of wire fracture complications in both the MW and KW groups when the internal fixation was removed. Conclusion: The modified wire tension band technique for fixation of patellar fractures is an effective new technique for the safe and reliable management of patellar fractures and offers an alternative strategy for the treatment of patellar fractures.

Self-adaptability is highly envisioned for artificial devices such as robots with chemical noses. For this goal, seeking catalysts with multiple and modulable reaction pathways is promising but generally hampered by inconsistent reaction conditions and negative internal interferences. Herein, we report an adaptable graphitic C6N6-based copper single-atom catalyst. It drives the basic oxidation of peroxidase substrates by a bound copper-oxo pathway, and undertakes a second gain reaction triggered by light via a free hydroxyl radical pathway. Such multiformity of reactive oxygen-related intermediates for the same oxidation reaction makes the reaction conditions capable to be the same. Moreover, the unique topological structure of CuSAC6N6 along with the specialized donor-π-acceptor linker promotes intramolecular charge separation and migration, thus inhibiting negative interferences of the above two reaction pathways. As a result, a sound basic activity and a superb gain of up to 3.6 times under household lights are observed, superior to that of the controls, including peroxidase-like catalysts, photocatalysts, or their mixtures. CuSAC6N6 is further applied to a glucose biosensor, which can intelligently switch sensitivity and linear detection range in vitro.

Magnetic materials are essential for energy generation and information devices, and they play an important role in advanced technologies and green energy economies. Currently, the most widely used magnets contain rare earth (RE) elements. An outstanding challenge of notable scientific interest is the discovery and synthesis of novel magnetic materials without RE elements that meet the performance and cost goals for advanced electromagnetic devices. Here, we report our discovery and synthesis of an RE-free magnetic compound, Fe 3 CoB 2 , through an efficient feedback framework by integrating machine learning (ML), an adaptive genetic algorithm, first-principles calculations, and experimental synthesis. Magnetic measurements show that Fe 3 CoB 2 exhibits a high magnetic anisotropy ( K 1 = 1.2 MJ/m 3 ) and saturation magnetic polarization ( J s = 1.39 T), which is suitable for RE-free permanent-magnet applications. Our ML-guided approach presents a promising paradigm for efficient materials design and discovery and can also be applied to the search for other functional materials.

The ability to molecularly engineer luminescent metal-organic frameworks is a powerful tool for the design of better performing rational temperature sensors. Lanthanide based MOF stand out as luminescent temperature sensors due to the high luminescence intensity and sharp emission lines of the lanthanides. The use of two different lanthanide cations incorporated into the same MOF structure is supposed to allow for a rational, that is self-referencing, temperature sensing. Here, we present series of mixed EuxTb(1-x)BTC, which were designed as nanoparticles. The EuxTb(1-x)BTC series shows controllable luminescent properties, which depend on the solvation of the lanthanide. The two MOFs in the series with the lowest Eu content, i.e. Eu0.04Tb0.96BTC and Eu0.02Tb0.98BTC, are suitable candidates for rational temperature sensing in the range between 200 and 270 K and above 300 K.

In complex mining environments, driverless mining trucks are required to cooperate with multiple intelligent systems. They must perform obstacle avoidance based on factors such as the site road width, obstacle type, vehicle body movement state, and ground concavity-convexity. Targeting the open-pit mining area, this paper proposes an intelligent mining road object detection (IMOD) model developed using a 5G-multi-UAV and a deep learning approach. The IMOD model employs data sensors to monitor surface data in real time within a multisystem collaborative 5G network. The model transmits data to various intelligent systems and edge devices in real time, and the unmanned mining card constructs the driving area on the fly. The IMOD model utilizes a convolutional neural network to identify obstacles in front of driverless mining trucks in real time, optimizing multisystem collaborative control and driverless mining truck scheduling based on obstacle data. Multiple systems cooperate to maneuver around obstacles, including avoiding static obstacles, such as standing and lying dummies, empty oil drums, and vehicles; continuously avoiding multiple obstacles; and avoiding dynamic obstacles such as walking people and moving vehicles. For this study, we independently collected and constructed an obstacle image dataset specific to the mining area, and experimental tests and analyses reveal that the IMOD model maintains a smooth route and stable vehicle movement attitude, ensuring the safety of driverless mining trucks as well as of personnel and equipment in the mining area. The ablation and robustness experiments demonstrate that the IMOD model outperforms the unmodified YOLOv5 model, with an average improvement of approximately 9.4% across multiple performance measures. Additionally, compared with other algorithms, this model shows significant performance improvements.

A two circular-arc cam mechanism is a special kind of constant-breadth cam. At the junction point of each cam contour, a mutation of the curvature radius may be produced, which affects the motion performance of the mechanism, especially its jerk performance at high speed. Based on a proposed motion model, the follower movements of the constant-breadth two circular-arc cam mechanism with an inclined flat-faced follower are analyzed. Bezier Curve is proposed to fit the driving law of the cam mechanism, while variable speed law is adopted to drive the cam mechanism motion, thus reducing motion characteristic value (AV)max (i.e., the maximum value of the velocity multiplied by acceleration for the follower’s motion law of the cam mechanism at the same motion time point) and the jerk of the follower. In this paper, the establishment of the optimization objective functions and constraint conditions, and the control node selections of the cam drive function are researched. The optimization results are obtained by using the primary objective method. The results of a test case calculation and simulation show that, the optimized drive function, according to the variable motor speed, can significantly reduce the value of (AV)max of the follower, while the jerks of the follower system are also reduced considerably. More precisely, the (AV)max value is reduced by 11.63% and the jerks are reduced on average by 15.35%, at the three jerk positions. The proposed methods provide a new approach to improving the kinematic performance of similar cam mechanisms.

The increased permeability of the lung microvascular endothelium is one critical initiation of acute lung injury (ALI). The disruption of vascular-endothelium integrity results in leakiness of the endothelial barrier and accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the alveoli. During ALI, increased endothelial-cell (EC) permeability is always companied by high frequency and amplitude of cytosolic Ca2+ oscillations. Mechanistically, cytosolic calcium oscillations include calcium release from internal stores and calcium entry via channels located in the cell membrane. Recently, numerous publications have shown substantial evidence that calcium-permeable channels play an important role in maintaining the integrity of the endothelium barrier function of the vessel wall in ALI. These novel endothelial signaling pathways are future targets for the treatment of lung injury. This short review focuses on the up-to-date research and provide insight into the contribution of calcium influx via ion channels to the disruption of lung microvascular endothelial-barrier function during ALI.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), as a novel class of functional polymers, exhibit versatile applications due to their crystalline porous structures and conjugated skeletons. However, synthesis of COFs with high crystallinity still faces great challenges, especially for scale-up preparation. Herein we report a two-step solvothermal process to improve crystallinity of COFs. The first step focuses on polycondensation of monomers with no need for optimizing crystallization conditions. In the second step, appropriate solvothermal conditions are used to facilitate crystallization of the COFs through defects correction and structural repairing. Furthermore, this strategy could also be applicable to scale-up synthesis of high quality COFs, which lays a foundation for their practical applications.

High lattice thermal conductivity of intrinsic GeTe limits the wide application of GeTe-based thermoelectrics. Recently, the optimization of GeTe-based thermoelectric materials has been focusing on reducing lattice thermal conductivity via strengthening phonon scattering. In this study, we systematically studied thermoelectric properties of Se-alloyed Ge0.95Bi0.05Te via theoretical calculations, structural characterizations, and performance evaluations. Our results indicate that Se-alloying can induce dense point defects with mass/strain-field fluctuations and correspondingly enhance point defect phonon scattering of the Ge0.95Bi0.05Te matrix. Se-alloying might also change chemical bonding strength to introduce resonant states in the base frequency of Ge0.95Bi0.05Te matrix, which can strengthen Umklapp phonon scattering. Finally, a decreased lattice thermal conductivity from ∼1.02 W m−1 K−1 to ∼0.65 W m−1 K−1 at 723 K is obtained in Ge0.95Bi0.05Te1-xSex pellets with increasing the Se content from 0 to 0.3. A peak figure of merit of ∼1.6 at 723 K is achieved in Ge0.95Bi0.05Te0.7Se0.3 pellet, which is ∼77% higher than that of pristine GeTe. This study extends the understanding on the thermoelectric performance of GeTe.

There has been a long debate on the stable phase of iron under the Earth's inner core conditions. Because of the solid-liquid coexistence at the inner core boundary, the thermodynamic stability of solid phases directly relates to their melting temperatures, which remains considerable uncertainty. In the present study, we utilized a semi-empirical potential fitted to high-temperature ab initio data to perform a thermodynamic integration from classical systems described by this potential to ab initio systems. This method provides a smooth path for thermodynamic integration and significantly reduces the uncertainty caused by the finite-size effect. Our results suggest the hcp phase is the stable phase of pure iron under the inner core conditions, while the free energy difference between the hcp and bcc phases is tiny, on the order of 10s meV/atom near the melting temperature., Comment: 4 figures

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are crucial post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression in ubiquitous biological processes, including immune-related pathways. This review focuses on the miR-183/96/182 cluster (miR-183C), which contains three miRNAs, miR-183, -96, and -182, having almost identical seed sequences with minor differences. The similarity among seed sequences allows these three miRNAs to act cooperatively. In addition, their minor differences permit them to target distinct genes and regulate unique pathways. The expression of miR-183C was initially identified in sensory organs. Subsequently, abnormal expression of miR-183C miRNAs in various cancers and autoimmune diseases has been reported, implying their potential role in human diseases. The regulatory effects of miR-183C miRNAs on the differentiation and function of both innate and adaptive immune cells have now been documented. In this review, we have discussed the complex role of miR-183C in the immune cells in both normal and autoimmune backgrounds. We highlighted the dysregulation of miR-183C miRNAs in several autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), multiple sclerosis (MS), and ocular autoimmune disorders, and discussed the potential for utilizing miR-183C as biomarkers and therapeutic targets of specific autoimmune diseases.

The performance of classic radar geometry based on the line-of-sight (LOS) signal transmitted from radar to the target in the free space is affected by multipath echoes in urban areas, where non-line-of-sight (NLOS) signals reflected by obstacles are received by the radar. Based on prior information of the urban situation, this article proposes a novel two-stage localization algorithm with multipath exploitation in a dense clutter environment. In the offline stage, multipath propagation parameters of uniformly distributed samples in the radar field of view are predicted by the ray-tracing technique. In the online stage, a rough location of the target is estimated by the maximum similarity between measurements and the predicted parameters of reference samples at different locations. The similarity is described by the likelihood between measurements and the predicted multipath parameters with respect to all possible associated hypotheses. A gating threshold is derived to exclude less likely hypotheses and reduce the computational burden. The accurate target location is acquired by a non-linear least squares (NLS) optimization of the associated multipath components. Simulation results in various noise conditions show that the proposed method provides robust and accurate target localization results under dense clutter conditions, and the offline pre-calculation of ray-tracing ensures the real-time performance of the proposed localization algorithm. The root mean square error (RMSE) of simulation results shows the advantage of the proposed method over the existing method. The presented results suggest that the proposed method can be applied to NLOS target localization applications in complex environments.

Percutaneous minimally invasive surgery involving Achilles tendon (AT) repair has the advantages of a low rerupture rate and fewer postoperative complications. However, due to the inability to operate under direct vision, the injury of the small saphenous vein (SSV) and sural nerve (SN) remains largely a high risk involving many challenges. We propose to introduce the preoperative application and advantages of ultrasonography in percutaneous minimally invasive surgery for acute AT rupture. Our results indicated that ultrasonography could locate the position of the SN more accurately and reduce the risk of iatrogenic nerve injury. Compared with the traditional surface markers, the preoperative localization and marking of AT, SSV, and SN in ultrasonography significantly reduced the risk of intraoperative accidental injury to blood vessels and nerves, which could reduce postoperative complications and promote early rehabilitation of patients. We ultimately exploit the properties of ultrasonography in percutaneous minimally invasive surgery to treat Achilles tendon rupture.

A series of aromatic polythioamides with high gold extraction efficiency and high refractive index have been synthesized through the KOH-assisted multicomponent polymerization of elemental sulfur, aromatic diamines and aromatic dialdehydes.
