Various studies have shown that medical professionals are prone to follow the incorrect suggestions offered by algorithms, especially when they have limited inputs to interrogate and interpret such suggestions and when they have an attitude of relying on them. We examine the effect of correct and incorrect algorithmic suggestions on the diagnosis performance of radiologists when (1) they have no, partial, and extensive informational inputs for explaining the suggestions (study 1) and (2) they are primed to hold a positive, negative, ambivalent, or neutral attitude towards AI (study 2). Our analysis of 2760 decisions made by 92 radiologists conducting 15 mammography examinations shows that radiologists’ diagnoses follow both incorrect and correct suggestions, despite variations in the explainability inputs and attitudinal priming interventions. We identify and explain various pathways through which radiologists navigate through the decision process and arrive at correct or incorrect decisions. Overall, the findings of both studies show the limited effect of using explainability inputs and attitudinal priming for overcoming the influence of (incorrect) algorithmic suggestions.

Introduction: Diabetes is one of the major metabolic diseases worldwide. Despite being a complex systemic pathology, the aggregation and deposition of Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP), or amylin, is a recognized histopathological marker of the disease. Although IAPP proteotoxicity represents an important trigger of β-cell dysfunction and ultimately death, its exploitation as a therapeutic tool remains underdeveloped. The bioactivity of (poly)phenols towards inhibition of pathological protein aggregation is well known, however, most of the identified molecules have limited bioavailability. Methods: Using a strategy combining in silico, cell-free and cell studies, we scrutinized a unique in-house collection of (poly)phenol metabolites predicted to appear in the human circulation after (poly)phenols ingestion. Results: We identified urolithin B as a potent inhibitor of IAPP aggregation and a powerful modulator of cell homeostasis pathways. Urolithin B was shown to affect IAPP aggregation pattern, delaying the formation of amyloid fibrils and altering their size and morphology. The molecular mechanisms underlying urolithin B-mediated protection include protein clearance pathways, mitochondrial function, and cell cycle ultimately rescuing IAPP-mediated cell dysfunction and death. Discussion: In brief, our study uncovered urolithin B as a novel small molecule targeting IAPP pathological aggregation with potential to be exploited as a therapeutic tool for mitigating cellular dysfunction in diabetes. Resulting from the colonic metabolism of dietary ellagic acid in the human body, urolithin B bioactivity has the potential to be explored in nutritional, nutraceutical, and pharmacological perspectives. publishersversion published

Este estudo tem como objetivo descrever a experiência de capacitação da equipe de enfermagem sobre a prevenção de lesão por pressão em pacientes com COVID-19 submetidos ao posicionamento prona. Trata-se de relato de experiência sobre capacitação da equipe de enfermagem em uma Unidade Terapia Intensiva de um hospital privado de grande porte de São Paulo. Participaram das ações educativas 100 profissionais de enfermagem no mês de março de 2020. As capacitações abordaram os seguintes temas: posição prona e seus benefícios, utilização de curativos multicamadas (face e proeminências ósseas) e coxins para alívio e redistribuição da pressão, gerenciamento de circuitos e dispositivos e técnica de reposicionamento nadador. A realização das capacitações para prevenção de lesão por pressão em pacientes pronados representou importante ferramenta para treinamento e aprimoramento da equipe de enfermagem frente aos desafios do paciente grave com COVID-19.

Numerous publications have shown the value of structured reporting in communication with referring physicians and for further usage of clinical report data in other contexts. Despite the topic being present and known in radiology for many years now, widespread adoption of structured reporting in clinical routine is still lacking. All major radiological societies have published position statements in favor of structured reporting and are pursuing various related initiatives. Among those are the development and the maintenance of openly available structured report template repositories as well as quality control of report templates and development of standardized terminologies. This article highlights the efforts of the German Radiological Society and the European Society of Radiology on the topic of structured reporting and provides an overview of pros and cons as well as publicly available resources.Zahlreiche Publikationen belegen den herausragenden Wert einer strukturierten Befundung sowohl für die Kommunikation mit zuweisenden klinischen Kollegen als auch für die Weiterverwendung der Befunddaten in anderen Kontexten. Obwohl das Thema bereits seit vielen Jahren in der Radiologie bekannt ist, hat sich die strukturierte Befundung noch nicht flächendeckend in der klinischen Routine etablieren können. Alle größeren radiologischen Fachgesellschaften haben sich klar für die strukturierte Befundung ausgesprochen und verfolgen etliche Initiativen auf diesem Gebiet. Dazu zählt der Aufbau frei zugänglicher Sammlungen von Befundvorlagen und die Qualitätssicherung derselben sowie die Pflege und Entwicklung standardisierter Begriffslexika. Im vorliegenden Artikel werden insbesondere die Aktivitäten der Deutschen Röntgengesellschaft und der European Society of Radiology dargestellt sowie ein kurzer Überblick über Vor- und Nachteile und verfügbare Ressourcen gegeben.

This research was developed in the second semester of 2019, with students of the Degree in Physics, at a Federal Public University, in Bahia. Its objective is presenting a study based on the methodology of Project-Based Learning (PBL) combined with Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT's) in Physics teaching. Therefore, the research was developed in three methodological phases. The first one was dedicated to the study of the podcast in education, aiming to map the use of this media as a didactic support. The second phase was the pedagogical intervention research and the third one was related to application of the Project-Based Learning methodology. Throughout the intervention there was a better understanding of the concepts explored by the students, measured through diversified assessments, as well as a satisfactory engagement of most of the research participants throughout the development process of the PBL project., Esta investigación se desarrolló en el segundo semestre de 2019, con estudiantes de la Licenciatura en Física, en una Universidad Pública Federal, en Bahía. Su objetivo es presentar un estudio basado en la metodología del Aprendizaje Basado en Proyectos (ABP) combinado con las Tecnologías Digitales de la Información y la Comunicación (TDIC's) en la enseñanza de la Física. Por lo tanto, la investigación se desarrolló en tres fases metodológicas. El primero estuvo dedicado al estudio del podcast en la educación, con el objetivo de mapear el uso de este medio como soporte didáctico. La segunda fase fue la investigación de intervención pedagógica y la tercera estuvo relacionada con la aplicación de la metodología de Aprendizaje Basado en Proyectos. A lo largo de la intervención hubo una mejor comprensión de los conceptos explorados por los estudiantes, medidos a través de evaluaciones diversificadas, así como un compromiso satisfactorio de la mayoría de los participantes de la investigación a lo largo del proceso de desarrollo del proyecto ABP., Esta pesquisa foi realizada no segundo semestre de 2019, com estudantes do curso de Licenciatura em Física, de uma Universidade Pública Federal, na Bahia. Seu objetivo é apresentar um estudo baseado na metodologia de Aprendizagem Baseada em Projetos (ABP) combinada com as Tecnologias Digitais de Informação e Comunicação (TDIC's) no ensino de física. Para tanto, a pesquisa desenvolveu-se em três eixos metodológicos. O primeiro foi dedicado ao estudo do podcast na educação, visando mapear o uso dessa mídia como apoio didático. O segundo eixo foi da pesquisa de intervenção pedagógica e o terceiro eixo foi referente à aplicação da metodologia de Aprendizagem Baseada em Projetos. Ao longo da intervenção observou-se uma melhor apreensão dos conceitos explorados pelos estudantes, aferida mediante avaliações diversificadas, assim como um engajamento satisfatório da maior parte dos pesquisados durante todo o processo de desenvolvimento do projeto da ABP.

Purpose During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, higher education worldwide had to switch to digital formats. The purpose of this study was to evaluate CoRad-19, a digital teaching tool created by the German Radiological Society for medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods A total of 13 German-speaking universities implemented CoRad-19 in their curriculum and partially or completely replaced their classes with the online courses. Previous experience and contact with radiology and the participants' opinions regarding the medium of e-learning were surveyed using a custom questionnaire. The subjective level of knowledge regarding the individual modules was also surveyed before and after participation to measure learning effects. The data of 994 medical students from the participating sites were analyzed and compared intraindividually using the Friedman test. Results From 4/1/2020-10/1/2020, 451 complete data sets from a total of 994 surveys were included. E-learning was rated very useful both before and after course participation (4 [IQR 3-4], p=0.527, r=0.16). E-learning as a method was also rated as a very good medium both before and after participation (4 [IQR 3-4], p=0.414, r=0.17). After participation, participants rated radiology as particularly suitable for digital teaching (before: 3 [IQR 3-4] vs. after 4 [IQR 3-4], p=0.005, r=0.6). Significant learning gains were measurable in all course modules (p≤0.009). Post-hoc analysis showed interest in radiology to increase significantly after course participation (p=0.02). Conclusion In the representative survey, significant learning effects were observed in all course modules. In addition, it should be particularly emphasized that the students' interest in radiology was increased by course participation. Thus, the German Radiological Society provided significant support to German-speaking medical faculties with respect to maintaining excellent education using CoRad-19. The automobile industry has set the demand regarding Powder Metallurgy (PM) parts for decades, since this near-net shape technology is a cost-effective manufacturing process allying good mechanical properties with dimensional and geometrical precision. Aiming at the future of the electric automobiles high production and demand, many changes are on the way to guarantee the competitiveness of PM against other manufacturing process. The high costs of alloying elements such as Ni and Cu, the changes in health and safety regulations as well as light weighting of components are the topics of major importance in the field of PM and focus of main R&D around the globe. The use of high temperature sintering and different alloying elements are possible solutions to overcome properties obtained by using Ni as an alloying element sintered at conventional temperatures. Materials with Cr, Mo and Si were investigated using high temperature sintering (1180°C and 1250°) in comparison to traditionally high Ni materials sintered at conventional temperature (1120°C). The dimensional stability, geometrical precision, density, and microstructure of ring-shaped specimens were studied by using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and the effect of HTS on the mechanical properties were estimated through the fraction of the load bearing section. The effect of HTS on the dimensional precision and geometrical stability was later investigated in real parts manufactured by industrial partners through an EPMA Club Project. The 4%Ni material sintered at 1120°C was also compared to Ni-less/Ni-free materials sintered at 1250°C using tensile testing, impact testing, and hardness. The use of HTS to improve the mechanical properties without impairing the dimensional and geometrical stability was confirmed in parts with both low and high complexity designs. This project sets the blueprint for future material developments using HTS as manufacturing process.

The aim of this study is to assess the short-term impact of the sixth-grade experimental project and the factors that mediate this impact. The main feature of the project proposed by the Department of Municipal Education (SME) of Rio de Janeiro, in 2011, is its expansion up to the 6th grade the elementary education, with only one lead teacher to teach the main subjects. To evaluate the project, we used the differences-in-differences method with propensity scorematching. The results indicate an improvement of 0.16 standard deviations in mathematics at the end of the first half of the project, for the schools that entered in the 6th Grade Experimental, in 2014. The main mechanisms that explain performance improvement are the improved climate in the classroom, in pedagogical autonomy and in the training of teachers. El objetivo de este estudio es evaluar el impacto de corto plazo del Proyecto 6º Año Experimental y los factores mediadores en dicho impacto. Propuesto por la Secretaría Municipal de Educación de Rio de Janeiro en 2011, su principal característica es la ampliación para seis años del primer ciclo de la educación fundamental, con la presencia de tan solo un profesor-regente impartiendo las principales asignaturas. Para evaluar el proyecto se utilizó el método de diferencias-en-diferencias con pre pareado por escore de propensión. Los resultados indican una mejora de 0,16 desviaciones estándar para Matemáticas a fines del primer semestre del proyecto, para las escuelas que ingresaron en el 6º Año Experimental en 2014. Background Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), it proved necessary to rapidly change medical education from on-site to online teaching. Thus, medical educators were forced to rethink the purpose of teaching and the best form of transmission of knowledge. In cooperation with the European Society of Radiology (ESR), we investigated the attitudes of radiologists in Europe and North America toward innovative online teaching concepts. Methods In total, 224 radiologists from 31 different countries participated in our cross-sectional, web-based survey study. On a 7-point Likert scale, participants had to answer 27 questions about the online teaching situation before/during the pandemic, technical and social aspects of online teaching and the future role of online teaching in radiology. Results An overwhelming majority stated that radiology is particularly well-suited for online teaching (91%), that online teaching should play a more prominent role after the pandemic (73%) and that lecturers should be familiar with online teaching techniques (89%). Difficulties include a higher workload in preparing online courses (59%), issues with motivating students to follow online courses (56%) and the risk of social isolation (71%). Before the pandemic, only 12% of teaching was provided online; for the future, our participants deemed a proportion of approximately 50% online teaching appropriate. Conclusion Our participants are open-minded about online teaching in radiology. As the best way of transferring knowledge in medical education is still unclear, online teaching offers potential for innovation in radiology education. To support online teaching development, a structured, framework-based “online curriculum” should be established. In smart buildings, cyber-physical components (e.g., controllers, sensors, and actuators) communicate with each other using network protocols such as BACnet. Many of these devices are now connected to the Internet, enabling attackers to exploit vulnerabilities on protocols and devices to attack buildings. Situational awareness and intrusion detection are thus critical to provide operators with a clear and dynamic picture of their network, and to allow them to react to threats and attacks. Due to Smart Buildings being relatively dynamic and heterogeneous environments, situational awareness further needs to rapidly adapt to the appearance of new devices, and to provide enough context and information to understand a device’s behavior. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to situational awareness that leverages a combination of learning and knowledge of possible role devices. Specifically, we introduce a role-based situational awareness and intrusion detection system to monitor BACnet building automation networks. The system discovers devices, classifies them according to functional roles and detects deviations from the assigned roles. To validate our approach, we use a simulated dataset generated from a BACnet testbed, as well as a real-world dataset coming from the building network of a Dutch university.

O jogo de futebol é caracterizado como um esporte de alta intensidade com curtos intervalos de recuperação, sendo assim, parâmetros de mensuração de carga durante o jogo vem sendo analisados para evoluir o desempenho dos atletas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência de diferentes sistemas táticos sobre a intensidade de esforço (IE), potência e fadiga em 10 jogadores, com média de idade de 16,6 ± 0,5 anos. A frequência cardíaca (FC) foi monitorada através de monitores cardí­acos (Firstbeat®) durante dois jogos simulados utilizando os sistemas táticos 1-4-4-2 (S-1) e 1-4-3-3 (S-2). Para quantificar os valores de potência máxima (Pmáx.) e potência mí­nima (Pmí­n) foi utilizado o teste de corrida anaeróbia RAST (Running-based anaerobic sprint test) em três momentos: T1- teste basal, T2 - teste pós (S-1), T3 - teste pós (S-2). Os valores de FC registrada nos jogos não demonstraram diferenças significativas quando comparado 1-4-4-2 x 1-4-3-3 (FCmáx S-1= 189.4 ± 8.18 e S-2= 193.6 ± 5.13 bpm) (p< 0,151). A FC média registrada no S-1 foi 162.6 ± 7.23 e S-2 = 164.3 ± 9.64 bpm (p< 0,711). Os valores de potência não apresentaram alterações significativas quando comparadas nos três momentos (T1, T2, T2). Houve um aumento significativo nos valores do í­ndice de fadiga entre os momentos T1 e T2 (*p < 0,05). Os resultados obtidos nesta pesquisa demonstram que ambos os sistemas táticos estudados apresentaram respostas semelhantes da FC e não foram capazes de alterar os valores de potência máxima e mí­nima nos jogadores. The football game is characterized as a high intensity sport with short recovery intervals, thus, parameters of load measurement during the game have been analyzed to evolve the performance of athletes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different tactical systems on the intensity of effort (IE), power and fatigue in 10 players, with mean age of 16.6 ± 0.5 years. Heart rate (HR) was monitored through cardiac monitors (Firstbeat®) during two simulated games using the tactical systems 1-4-4-2 (S-1) and 1-4-3-3 (S-2). This work refers to a didactic sequence, based on David Ausubel's Theory of Meaningful Learning. The sequence was applied in high school classes, at night, in a public school in the municipality of Amargosa, in Bahia, divided into three moments (introduction of previous organizers, main activity and discussion). The objective of this work was to raise discussions, by means of a teaching sequence, to favor a meaningful learning about Newton's first law with the use of manipulable materials. The central question to be investigated in this didactic sequence focused on the following aspect: is it possible to learn about the first law of movement through the contextualization of physical concepts and through an approach using manipulable material? The methodology followed the parameters of the qualitative approach according to Bogdan and Biklen (1994). The results presented showed evidence of subsumers for the understanding of the law of movement., Este trabalho refere-se a uma sequência didática, baseada na Teoria da Aprendizagem Significativa de David Ausubel. A sequência foi aplicada em turmas do ensino médio, no período noturno, em uma escola pública do município de Amargosa, na Bahia, dividida em três momentos (introdução de organizadores prévios, atividade principal e discussão). O objetivo deste trabalho foi de levantar discussões, por meio de uma sequência de ensino, para favorecer uma aprendizagem significativa acerca da primeira lei de Newton com a utilização de materiais manipuláveis. A questão central investigada nessa sequência didática concentrou-se no seguinte aspecto: é possível aprender sobre a primeira lei do movimento por meio da contextualização de conceitos físicos e através de uma abordagem com a utilização de material manipulável? A metodologia seguiu os parâmetros da abordagem qualitativa segundo Bogdan e Biklen (1994). Os resultados apresentados mostraram evidências de subsunçores para a compreensão da lei do movimento.

To evaluate the relationship between religiosity and spirituality with resilience in HC patients from Primary Health Care Units (PHC-U) of Porto Alegre (RS), Brazil. Methods: Cross-sectional and descriptive quantitative study including 44 adults from four PHC-U in HC due to chronic conditions and controlled/compensated health problems with some dependence on activities of daily living. We used religiousness (DUREL), spirituality (ARES), resilience (RS-14), functionality (Katz), depressive symptoms (PHQ-2), social support (mMOS-SS), economic classification (ABEP 2016) and severity of clinical conditions (CIRS-G) scales. Results: Most of the evaluated patients were female (72.7%), elderly (average 74 years), widows, white, low socioeconomic status, low education, retired, with an average time of 7.5 years of home restriction and with moderated degree of resilience. Respondents have high religiosity and spirituality rates, with 90.9% presenting high intrinsic religiosity and 79.6% performing private religious practices one or more times a day. Most (88.6%) consider important that their religiosity and spirituality is addressed in their health care, but only 20.5% have been asked about it. Resilience was associated with higher spirituality (B=0,44; p=0,02), controlling this effect for social support and depressive symptoms; and older age (B=0,18; p=0,02). Conclusion: The study corroborates the relevance of the religiosity and spirituality dimension and indicates its role in promoting resilience in this population in HC. The approach to religiosity and spirituality with these individuals is recommended, strengthening the integral care recommended by PHC. La religiosidad y la espiritualidad actúan como mecanismos para fortalecer la resiliencia. Objetivo: evaluar la relación entre la religiosidad y la espiritualidad con resiliencia en pacientes en AD de las Unidades de Salud de la Atención Primaria a la Salud (US-APS) de Porto Alegre (RS), Brasil. Métodos: estudio cuantitativo descriptivo y transversal que incluyó a 44 adultos de cuatro US-APS en AD debido a afecciones crónicas y problemas de salud controlados/compensados con cierta dependencia de las actividades de la vida diaria. Utilizamos escalas de religiosidad (DUREL), espiritualidad (ARES), resiliencia (RS-14), funcionalidad (Katz), síntomas depresivos (PHQ-2), apoyo social (mMOS-SS), clasificación económica (ABEP 2016) y gravedad de las condiciones clínicas (CIRS - G). Resultados: la mayoría de los pacientes evaluados eran mujeres (72.7%), ancianas (edad promedio 74 años), viudas, blancas, de bajo nivel socioeconómico, baja educación, jubiladas, con un tiempo promedio de 7.5 años de restricción domiciliaria y grado moderado de resiliencia. Los encuestados tienen altas tasas de la religiosidad y la espiritualidad, 90.9% tienen una alta religiosidad intrínseca y 79.6% realizan prácticas religiosas privadas una o más veces al día. La mayoría (88,6%) considera importante que su la religiosidad y la espiritualidad se aborde en su atención médica, pero solo al 20,5% se les ha preguntado al respecto. La resiliencia se asoció con una mayor espiritualidad (B=0,44; p=0,02), controlando este efecto para apoyo social y los síntomas depresivos, y la edad avanzada (B=0,18; p=0,02). Conclusión: el estudio corrobora la relevancia de la dimensión religiosa y espiritual e indica su papel en la promoción de la resiliencia en esta población en AD. Se recomienda el enfoque de la religiosidad y la espiritualidad con estas personas, fortaleciendo la atención integral recomendada por la APS. Introdução: A atenção domiciliar (AD) caracteriza-se por práticas de cuidado que realizam abordagem integral do paciente em seu contexto familiar, socioeconômico e cultural. Religiosidade e espiritualidade atuam como mecanismos de fortalecimento da resiliência. A maioria (88,6%) considera importante que sua religiosidade e espiritualidade seja abordada em seus atendimentos de saúde, mas somente 20,5% já foram questionados sobre tal temática. Resiliência associou-se à maior espiritualidade (B=0,44; p=0,02), controlando-se este efeito para suporte social e sintomas depressivos; e à maior idade (B=0,18; p=0,02). This study assessed the level of knowledge of teachers and students of a Dentistry Course about the ethical and legal aspects involved in the acquisition and handling of extracted human dental elements. We applied a semistructured questionnaire to the teachers and students from the 2nd period, since they constitute the users of human teeth in preclinical teaching and research activities. Data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics for the closed questions, in addition to the Collective Subject Speech for the open questions. We interviewed 51 teachers from the total of 55 and 201 students from the total of 288, of which 72.55% and 72.60%, respectively, recognized the dental element as an organ. As for the way to obtain the teeth, 39.49% of the students reported that they acquired teeth in dental offices and 33.76% in health units, where 91.04% of the students and 80.39% of the teachers are unaware of any commercialization. Regarding biosafety, both students (78.61%) and teachers (90.20%) recognize the biological risk in the handling of these elements and perform some type of disinfection. When considering the legal aspects, 68.63% of the teachers and 20.10% of the students stated that they were aware of the existence of a regulation, although this statement was not explicitly reflected in the obtained responses. From the textual material generated by the open questions, we raised three categories (way to obtain the used teeth, commercialization of teeth and biological risk), which were interpreted in the light of speeches added by the interviewed segments (teachers and students). We can conclude that both teachers and students have shown little knowledge about the legal aspects involved in the acquisition and handling of extracted human dental elements. O estudo verificou o nível de conhecimento do corpo docente e discente de um curso de Odontologia acerca dos aspectos éticos e legais envolvidos na obtenção e manipulação de elementos dentários humanos extraídos. Foi aplicado um questionário semiestruturado aos docentes e discentes a partir do 2º período, por se constituírem os usuários de dentes humanos nas atividades de ensino pré-clínico e de pesquisa. Os dados foram analisados utilizando-se a estatística descritiva para as perguntas fechadas, além do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo para as perguntas abertas. Participaram 51 docentes de um total de 55 e 201 discentes do total de 288, dos quais 72,55% e 72,60%, respectivamente, reconheceram o elemento dentário como um órgão. Quanto à forma de obtenção, 39,49% dos discentes relataram obter os dentes em consultórios odontológicos e 33,76% em unidades de saúde, sendo que 91,04% destes e 80,39% dos docentes desconhecem qualquer tipo de comercialização. Em relação à biossegurança, tanto os discentes (78,61%) quanto os docentes (90,20%) reconhecem o risco biológico na manipulação desses elementos e realizam algum tipo de desinfecção. Considerando-se os aspectos legais, 68,63% dos docentes e 20,10% dos discentes afirmaram ter conhecimento da existência de uma regulamentação, o que não se refletiu de forma explícita nas respostas obtidas. Do material textual gerado pelas perguntas abertas emergiram três categorias (forma de obtenção dos dentes utilizados, comercialização de dentes e risco biológico), interpretadas à luz de discursos agregados dos segmentos (docentes e discentes) entrevistados. Pode-se concluir que tanto docentes quanto discentes apresentaram conhecimento incipiente sobre os aspectos legais que envolvem a obtenção e manipulação de elementos dentários humanos extraídos.

Los usos sociales de los ríos incluyen desde el agua para consumo, riego o pesca hasta vías para navegación y generación de energía hidroeléctrica. Urge la gestión responsable, incluyendo el compromiso de múltiples actores sociales. La transferencia de conocimientos científicos hacia la comunidad, por medio de tareas de educación ambiental, contribuye a esa meta. Esta última es eficiente para cambiar percepciones y actitudes cuando incluye experiencias de prácticas en campo. En este capítulo, se comentan los resultados de tres experiencias educativas en las ciudades argentinas de La Plata, Córdoba y Tucumán, donde tuvo protagonismo la adquisición de conocimientos sobre diversidad acuática. En todos los casos se verificó que la transferencia de conocimientos, de manera sencilla y práctica, permite a la comunidad visibilizar aspectos de la naturaleza previamente desconocidos y adoptar una actitud participativa para la solución de problemas ambientales. Water for consumption, irrigation or fishing in addition to ways for navigation and generation of hydroelectric energy are among the uses of rivers and streams. Responsible management is urgent, including the empowerment of multiple social actors. The transfer of scientific knowledge to the community, through environmental education tasks, contributes to that goal. Environmental education is efficient to change perceptions and attitudes when it includes experiences of open-air inquiry. In this chapter, we discuss the results of three educational experiences in the Argentine cities of La Plata, Córdoba and Tucumán, where the acquisition of knowledge about aquatic diversity played a leading role. In all cases it was verified that the transfer of knowledge, in a simple and practical way, allows the community to visualize previously unknown aspects of nature and adopt a participatory attitude for the solution of environmental problems. ZusammenfassungSeit Einführung der PET/CT im Jahr 2001 bzw. der PET/MRT im Jahr 2010 ist die PET als Hybridbildgebung und Instrument einer bildgesteuerten Präzisionsmedizin zunehmend zu einem Versorgungsstandard in der Onkologie geworden. Die zentrale Schnittstelle in der Kommunikation zwischen den zuweisenden onkologisch tätigen Ärzten und dem Nuklearmediziner und Radiologen stellt der schriftliche Befund dar, der das Patientenmanagement und Outcome beeinflusst, aber auch juristisch-relevante Dokumentation der erbrachten Leistung und ärztlichen Beurteilung der erhobenen Befunde ist. Eine qualitativ hochwertige, auf die klinische Frage fokussierte Hybridbildgebung sollte im weiteren Fortgang mit einem gleichermaßen qualitativ hochwertigen, strukturierten schriftlichen Befund verbunden sein, der die klinische Frage zur Zufriedenheit des zuweisenden Arztes beantwortet. Im vorliegenden Manuskript werden daher Konsensempfehlungen zur Befundstruktur, zu Befundinhalten und zur konklusiven Beurteilung einer onkologischen Hybridbildgebung gegeben. Darüber hinaus werden beispielhafte Vorlagen für ebensolche Befunde dargestellt. Die hier dargelegten Empfehlungen zur strukturierten Befunderstellung sollen eine weitere Standardisierung und Harmonisierung onkologischer Befunde im Kontext einer Hybridbildgebung fördern und so die Kommunikation mit den zuweisenden Ärzten vereinfachen und die Akzeptanz und Wertschätzung der onkologischen Hybridbildgebung weiter unterstützen.

El desvío de un sistema acuático respecto de un sistema de referencia se toma como indicio de impacto, y cuando dicho desvío implica una disminución de servicios, éste se traduce en deterioro. Se han concebido métricas basadas en bioindicadores como complemento a las medidas físicas y químicas para diagnosticar el estado de un sistema. Se introduce y ejemplifica con datos reales la metodología de curvas ROC (del inglés, Característica Operativa del Receptor) para medir la capacidad diagnóstica de los índices, establecer valores de corte y comparar su rendimiento entre sí. Se repasa brevemente el enfoque multimétrico y se ofrece una propuesta de agregación de métricas basada en lógica difusa. Metrics based on bioindicators have been conceived as a complement to physical-chemical measures to diagnose the state of a system. El artículo describe el procedimiento seguido para el diseño y la validación aparente y de contenido, mediante el procedimiento de juicio de expertos, de un cuestionario cuyo objetivo reside en identificar variables personales y contextuales con potencial impacto en las trayectorias académicas de estudiantes universitarios que cursan carreras tanto en modalidad presencial como a distancia. El referido instrumento fue diseñado en formato online y estructurado en 10 secciones orientadas a evaluar distintos aspectos. Se espera que la información obtenida como consecuencia de su administración permita identificar variables asociadas con trayectorias de logro, así como con trayectorias de abandono o de bajo rendimiento académico, en las modalidades presencial y distancia. El instrumento fue sometido al juicio de 6 expertos en el área de psicología y educación, quienes valoraron tanto de manera cuantitativa como cualitativa, la pertinencia de cada uno de los ítems que lo integran. In smart buildings, physical components (e.g., controllers, sensors, and actuators) are interconnected and communicate with each other using network protocols such as BACnet. Many smart building networks are now connected to the Internet, enabling attackers to exploit vulnerabilities in critical buildings. Network monitoring is crucial to detect such attacks and allow building operators to react accordingly. In this paper, we propose an intrusion detection system for building automation networks that detects known and unknown attacks, as well as anomalous behavior. It does so by leveraging protocol knowledge and specific BACnet semantics: by using this information, the alerts raised by our system are meaningful and actionable. To validate our approach, we use a real-world dataset coming from the building network of a Dutch university, as well as a simulated dataset generated in our lab facilities.

Whereas the structure of individual differences in many social and emotional attributes is well understood in adults, much less work has been done in children and adolescents. The main goals of this research were to specify the major content domains that are assessed across multiple socioemotional instruments (self-esteem, grit, self-efficacy, strengths and difficulties, Big Five) in research in the United States and Europe, to test them in a less developed context with considerable educational challenges (Brazilian schools). We selected the five most promising instruments and studied their structure at the item level in a large sample of Brazilian school students (N = 3,023). The extracted factors to capture the major domains of child differences represented in these instruments closely resembled the Big Five personality dimensions. We discuss the contribution of our findings to the assessment of socio-emotional skills in education research, as well as limitations of the current study, and suggestions for future research. Resumo Enquanto a estrutura das diferenças individuais em muitos atributos sociais e emocionais está bem estabelecida em adultos, consideravelmente menos estudos foram conduzidos em crianças e adolescentes. Os objetivos do presente estudo foram especificar os principais domínios de conteúdo de múltiplos instrumentos socioemocionais (autoestima, garra, autoeficácia, forças e dificuldades e os cinco grandes fatores) usados em pesquisas nos Estados unidos da América e na Europa, e testá-los em um contexto muito menos desenvolvido e com consideráveis desafios educacionais, a saber, escolas brasileiras. Foram eleitos os cinco principais instrumentos socioemocionais utilizados internacionalmente, sendo investigada a sua estrutura fatorial em uma grande amostra de estudantes escolares (N = 3,023). Os fatores extraídos para representar os domínios socioemocionais dos instrumentos testados se mostraram bastante coerentes com as dimensões do modelo dos cinco grandes fatores. Discutem-se as contribuições do estudo na avaliação de competências socioemocionais na pesquisa educacional, bem como as limitações do estudo e sugestões para futuras investigações.

En el presente trabajo se utilizarán analíticas del aprendizaje sobre los estudiantes y sus contextos como apoyo a la docencia y a la mejora de los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje desde una aproximación no “maximalista”. Se tendrán en cuenta las prácticas efectivas de los sujetos con el fin de identificar perfiles de apropiación de tecnología de la información y la comunicación (TIC) por parte de los estudiantes, a partir sus huellas digitales en el aula virtual, combinado con datos cuantitativos del rendimiento académico y las propias opiniones de los usuarios. A prática de exercícios físicos é considerada um importante fator para a redução dos riscos associados às doenças cardiovasculares. O objetivo do estudo foi verificar as respostas cardiovasculares Pressão Arterial Sistólica, Pressão Arterial Distólica e Frequência Cardíaca nos exercícios supino reto e supino vertical em adultos saudáveis praticantes de musculação. A amostra foi composta por 30 indivíduos do sexo masculino praticantes de musculação por no mínimo seis meses frequentes, com idade entre 20 e 30 anos (25,9±3,1). Um grupo realizou o exercício supino reto (GSR) (n=15), o outro realizou o exercício supino vertical (GSV) (n=15), realizando 03 séries de 10 repetições sem alteração da carga, com intervalo de 2 minutos entre séries, e as variáveis aferidas antes e após a execução dos exercícios. Os resultados indicaram que não houve diferenças significativas das variáveis analisadas da pré para a pós-execução dos exercícios, ao serem comparados individualmente e entre os dois grupos.

This pot study assessed the effects of deferring forage during autumn and leaving as winter cover on reducing cold damage to plants of 2 tropical (C4) grasses (Chloris gayana and Panicum coloratum) in a temperate environment in La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Mature plants were subjected to the following treatments: (i) autumn-deferred forage retained (DF) as control; and (ii) autumn-deferred forage removed (DFR) cutting at 15 cm from soil level at beginning of winter. This experiment had 10 replicates per treatment and 1 plant per pot (experimental unit). Plants of both species were extracted from a commercial beef farm and transplanted into an experimental garden in pots where they grew outdoors from 2 February to 23 May (111 days) when treatments were applied. After winter, both grasses were cut to 15 cm in early spring (27 September) and spring growth was measured in November. Shoot biomass was harvested at ground level and separated into lower and upper layers (above and below 15 cm), leaf blades, sheaths and stolons. Daily air temperature, relative humidity and frost events were registered. Allometric analysis of shoot biomass was performed to determine the stress incidence by cold. DF plants achieved 55‒80% higher shoot biomass than DFR plants during spring in both species. The allometric analysis revealed for P. coloratum significant relationships between shoot biomass from plant compartments (lower and upper layers, leaf blade and sheath) and total shoot biomass in both treatments, indicating good cold tolerance. However, for C. gayana, unlike DF plants, DFR plants were strongly stressed, showing a lack of shoot biomass fit. These results suggest that deferring autumn forage growth and retaining as winter cover may improve survival during winter and productivity during spring of these two tropical grasses in temperate pastoral systems. However, the study needs to be repeated under field conditions and under grazing or cutting over a number of years in different situations to verify these preliminary results. En La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina, en un experimento en macetas a aire libre (condiciones de luz y temperatura naturales) se evaluó el efecto del forraje diferido como cobertura invernal en 2 gramíneas tropicales C4 (Chloris gayana y Panicum coloratum). Plantas adultas fueron extraídas de un establecimiento ganadero, trasplantadas a macetas en un jardín experimental y, después de crecer durante 111 días, sometidas el 23 de Mayo a los tratamientos: (1) control [sin remoción del forraje diferido de otoño (DF)]; y (2) remoción del forraje diferido de otoño (DFR) después de un corte a 15 cm del suelo. Background Arterial hyperenhancement and washout on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are described by all major guidelines as specific criteria for non-invasive diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, publications on the quantitative assessment of washout in MRI are lacking. Therefore, we evaluated a method for quantitatively measuring and defining washout in MRI in order to determine a cutoff value that allows objective HCC diagnosis. Methods We analyzed all patients who underwent liver transplantation for cirrhosis or liver resection for HCC at our institution between 2003 and 2014. Washout was quantitatively investigated by placing a 25-mm2 region of interest (ROI) over each nodule and two 25-mm2 ROIs over adjacent liver parenchyma. The percentage signal ratio (PSR = 100 × ratio of signal intensity of adjacent liver to that of the lesion) was calculated for each series in both groups. Accordingly, this quantitative measurement was compared to a qualitative approach. Results A total of 16 hypervascularized non-HCC nodules and 69 HCC nodules were identified. Interobserver reliability was reasonably good for the measurement of PSRs and readers showed a substantial agreement for the qualitative assessment. Brachial plexus neuropathies are common complaints among patients seen at orthopedic clinics. The causes range from traumatic to occupational factors and symptoms include paresthesia, paresis, and functional disability of the upper limb. Treatment can be surgical or conservative, but detailed knowledge of the brachial plexus is required in both cases to avoid iatrogenic injuries and to facilitate anesthetic block, preventing possible vascular punctures. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the topography of the infraclavicular brachial plexus fascicles in different upper limb positions adopted during some clinical procedures. A formalin-preserved, adult, male cadaver was used. The infraclavicular and axillary regions were dissected and the distance of the brachial plexus fascicles from adjacent bone structures was measured. No anatomical variation in the formation of the brachial plexus was observed. The metric relationships between the brachial plexus and adjacent bone prominences differed depending on the degree of shoulder abduction. Detailed knowledge of the infraclavicular topography of neurovascular structures helps with the diagnosis and especially with the choice of conservative or surgical treatment of brachial plexus neuropathies. Las neuropatías del plexo braquial son quejas comunes entre los pacientes atendidos en las clínicas ortopédicas. Las causas van desde traumas a factores ocupacionales y los síntomas incluyen parestesias, paresia e incapacidad funcional del miembro superior. El tratamiento puede ser quirúrgico o conservador, pero se requiere un conocimiento detallado del plexo braquial en ambos casos para evitar lesiones iatrogénicas y para facilitar el bloqueo anestésico, evitando posibles lesiones vasculares. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la topografía de los fascículos del plexo braquial infraclavicular en diferentes posiciones de los miembros superiores adoptadas durante algunos procedimientos clínicos. Se llevó a cabo la disección de las regiones infraclavicular y axilar de un cadáver adulto, de sexo masculino, conservado en formaldehído. Se midió la distancia de los fascículos del plexo braquial en relación a las estructuras óseas adyacentes. No se observó variación anatómica en la formación del plexo braquial. Las relaciones métricas entre el plexo braquial y las prominencias óseas adyacentes difieren en función del grado de abducción del hombro. El conocimiento detallado de la topografía infraclavicular de las estructuras neurovasculares ayuda con el diagnóstico y sobre todo con la elección del tratamiento conservador o quirúrgico de las neuropatías del plexo braquial.

El peso a destete (PD) en vacunos es una medida atribuible a la habilidad materna y a la capacidad intrínseca del individuo para crecer. El PD está correlacionado con futuros pesos (al servicio o sacrificio) que influyen en el éxito del proceso de producción. Arango y Plasse (1994) mencionan que entre 25 y 40% del peso final se desarrolla en la etapa predestete, destacando la importancia biológica y económica de obtener un buen PD. El PD está influenciado por factores ambientales y genéticos. Entre los ambientales están: año de nacimiento, época o mes de nacimiento, entre los genéticos: sexo, edad de la madre (años o número de parto), entre otros. Estos factores difieren en su magnitud relativa, según la zona agroecológica, unidad de producción y constitución genética de la población en estudio. Sin embargo, es importante valorar el grado con el cual estos factores afectan a una determinada población. A democracia, apenas possível por meio deste, deve, assim, empreender, através da revisão das concepções de liberdade, igualdade e fraternidade, a reforma da justiça, hoje militarizada, e a incorporação de valores como o perdão e a hospitalidade incondicionais. The article The Militarisation of Justice and Defence of Democracy addresses the current modes of public action of increasing militarism and questionsthe threat this represents to citizenship, counterposed to the State and institutions. The control of security technologies and representations has led to the spread of militarism, which has been incorporated into society, fragmenting it and placing ultrapolitical thought at risk. Democracy, only possible through suchthought, must therefore revise the concepts of liberty, equality and fraternity in order to reform the currently militarised justice system and incorporate values such as unconditional forgiveness and hospitality.

Background To compare the overall survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who were treated with lipiodol-based conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) with that of patients treated with drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE). Methods By an electronic search of our radiology information system, we identified 674 patients that received TACE between November 2002 and July 2013. A total of 520 patients received cTACE, and 154 received DEB-TACE. In total, 424 patients were excluded for the following reasons: tumor type other than HCC (n = 91), liver transplantation after TACE (n = 119), lack of histological grading (n = 58), incomplete laboratory values (n = 15), other reasons (e.g., previous systemic chemotherapy) (n = 114), or were lost to follow-up (n = 27). Therefore, 250 patients were finally included for comparative analysis (n = 174 cTACE; n = 76 DEB-TACE). Results There were no significant differences between the two groups regarding sex, overall status (Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer classification), liver function (Child-Pugh), portal invasion, tumor load, or tumor grading (all p > 0.05). The mean number of treatment sessions was 4 ± 3.1 in the cTACE group versus 2.9 ± 1.8 in the DEB-TACE group (p = 0.01). Median survival was 409 days (95 % CI: 321–488 days) in the cTACE group, compared with 369 days (95 % CI: 310–589 days) in the DEB-TACE group (p = 0.76). In the subgroup of Child A patients, the survival was 602 days (484–792 days) for cTACE versus 627 days (364–788 days) for DEB-TACE (p = 0.39). In Child B/C patients, the survival was considerably lower: 223 days (165–315 days) for cTACE versus 226 days (114–335 days) for DEB-TACE (p = 0.53). Conclusion The present study showed no significant difference in overall survival between cTACE and DEB-TACE in patients with HCC. However, the significantly lower number of treatments needed in the DEB-TACE group makes it a more appealing treatment option than cTACE for appropriately selected patients with unresectable HCC.

Distintos factores de perturbación pueden incidir negativamente sobre este capital natural. A los fines prácticos del biomonitoreo, importa identificar taxones cuya presencia/ausencia sirvan para alertar sobre la incidencia crítica de agentes antrópicos de impacto. El Índice Biótico de las Yungas basado en 4 taxones (IBY-4) es útil para diagnosticar el “estado sanitario” de los ríos y arroyos de la región epónima. Se basa en la mera presencia de insectos bentónicos de la familia Elmidae, Coleoptera y de los órdenes Megaloptera, Plecoptera y Trichoptera. El IBY-4 logra aglutinar las siguientes cualidades: 1) es confiable, puesto que su especificidad y sensibilidad han sido estadísticamente testeadas en una base de datos que cubre toda la región de Yungas del NOA; 2) es práctico, porque no se requieren datos de abundancia ni alta resolución taxonómica durante la identificación; 3) es versátil, porque se basa en taxones sensibles a distintas manifestaciones de la perturbación antrópica. Un corolario de la sencillez extrema del IBY-4 es que puede ser implementado por niños, circunstancia que lo torna útil para programas de educación ambiental en escuelas.
