As the omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) surges amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, there is limited comorbidities data associated with viral shedding time (VST). We aimed to investigate the effect of comorbidities on VST in asymptomatic and mild patients with omicron.A multi-center, retrospective, observational study was conducted from March 12, 2022 to May 24, 2022 in Shanghai. The analysis was adjusted for patients' baseline demographic, using log-rank test and logistic regression model.The study enrolled 198,262 subjects. The median duration of viral shedding time (VST) was 8.29 days. The number of cumulative viral shedding events was significantly lower in the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hyperlipidemia, diabetes, urinary system disease, and cardiocerebrovascular disease than in the no corresponding comorbidities group. Patients with comorbidities had a lower incidence of viral shedding, and the most significant independent risk factor is COPD (aOR 1.78, 95% CI: 1.53-2.08, p 0.001). Across different age ranges, the comorbidities affecting viral shedding also differ, with the greatest risk factors for viral shedding being hyperlipidemia (aOR 2.23, 95% CI: 1.50-3.31, p 0.001) and COPD (aOR 1.85, 95% CI: 1.50-2.28, p 0.001) between ages of 18-39 and 40-64, and thyroid dysfunction (aOR 2.36, 95% CI: 1.60-3.47, p 0.001) above age 64.Omicron-infected patients with comorbidities might prolong the VST. The independent risk factors also differ across age ranges, suggesting that providing targeted effective prevention and control guidance and allocating appropriate resources to different populations should be a crucial strategy.

As an adipokine, adipsin is closely related to metabolic-related diseases. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship among MAFLD, serum adipsin, and metabolic risk abnormalities.Methods: Our study was a cross-sectional study based on the first follow-up of the Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study (GNHS). A total of 908 patients with hepatic steatosis were involved in our study. Detailed data of patients were collected based upon questionnaire information, physical examination, and blood biochemical test.Results: Among the 908 patients, 789 patients were diagnosed with MAFLD. The levels of serum adipsin in the MAFLD group and non-MAFLD group were (3543.00 (3187.94– 3972.50) ng/mL) and (3095.33 (2778.71– 3354.77) ng/mL) (P < 0.001), respectively. After adjusting for potential confounders, adipsin levels were found to be associated with MAFLD. The OR was 3.46 (95% CI: 1.57– 7.64) for adipsin when comparing subjects in the highest tertile with those in the lowest tertile. With the increase in the number of metabolic risk abnormalities, both the levels of serum adipsin and the proportion of moderate to severe fatty liver increased (all p-trend < 0.001).Conclusion: Increased serum adipsin correlates with MAFLD. Both adipsin levels as well as fatty liver severity increase with higher numbers of metabolic risk abnormalities.Keywords: metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease, adipsin, metabolic risk abnormalities, hepatic steatosis

High-fat diet (HFD)-induced insulin resistance (IR) in skeletal muscle is often accompanied by mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. Boosting nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) using nicotinamide riboside (NR) can effectively decrease oxidative stress and increase mitochondrial function. However, whether NR can ameliorate IR in skeletal muscle is still inconclusive. We fed male C57BL/6J mice with an HFD (60% fat) ± 400 mg/kg·bw NR for 24 weeks. C2C12 myotube cells were treated with 0.25 mM palmitic acid (PA) ± 0.5 mM NR for 24 h. Indicators for IR and mitochondrial dysfunction were analyzed. NR treatment alleviated IR in HFD-fed mice with regard to improved glucose tolerance and a remarkable decrease in the levels of fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin and HOMA-IR index. NR-treated HFD-fed mice also showed improved metabolic status regarding a significant reduction in body weight and lipid contents in serum and the liver. NR activated AMPK in the skeletal muscle of HFD-fed mice and PA-treated C2C12 myotube cells and upregulated the expression of mitochondria-related transcriptional factors and coactivators, thereby improving mitochondrial function and alleviating oxidative stress. Upon inhibiting AMPK using Compound C, NR lost its ability in enhancing mitochondrial function and protection against IR induced by PA. In summary, improving mitochondrial function through the activation of AMPK pathway in skeletal muscle may play an important role in the amelioration of IR using NR.

Background Stress granules formation is closely associated with the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Factors determination this process remain to be elucidated. In this study, stress granule-related genes were validated as a predictor of HCC. Methods The stress granules-related associated genes were collected from the MSGP database and the MsigDB database. A novel prognostic risk scoring model were constructed by paired gene signature method. We identified eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A3 (EIF4A3) and karyopherin subunit alpha 2 (KPNA2) as candidate prognostic biomarkers, and their correlation with both prognosis and immune infiltration in HCC were evaluated. The expression of EIF4A3 and KPNA2 in HCC tissues was detected through immunohistochemistry (IHC). Results Through pairing of all DESG gene, we obtained a total of 16251 significance pairs. Subsequently, 93 pairs of all pairs containing EIF4A3 were extracted in this research. As a stress granule formation regulator, KPNA2 displayed the greatest correlations with EIF4A3 in HCC. Hyperactivated EIF4A3 and KPNA2 is associated with the poor clinical outcome of HCCs after hepatic resection. Involvement of EIF4A3 and KPNA2 in immune infiltration have been showed. Conclusion Our study identified coexistence of EIF4A3 and KPNA2 dysregulation inform poor clinical outcomes in HCC.

The West Qinling Orogen (WQO), which is bounded by the Qilian Orogenic Belt, Qaidam Block and the Songpan-Ganzi Block, is the western extension of the Qinling Orogenic Belt, and experienced complex tectonic evolution processes, involving the opening, subduction and closure history of the Proto- and Paleo-Tethys Oceans. The WQO features widespread Indosinian magmatic rocks, which are crucial to constrain the tectonic evolution of the WQO. The Indosinian magmatic rocks were formed mainly in two stages, 250 to 240 Ma and 225 to 210 Ma. The Early Indosinian magmatic rocks (250 to 240 Ma) are mainly distributed in the west and middle northern WQO. In comparison, the Late Indosinian magmatic rocks are mainly exposed in the eastern WQO, but also in the western WQO and the Bikou terrane. Controversy has existed for a long time on the petrogenesis and tectonic setting of the Early Indosinian magmatic rocks. We selected four respective plutons, including the Heimahe pluton, the Ren’ai pluton, the Daerzang pluton and the Ganjiagongma pluton. Detailed field investigation, petrology, LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating, zircon Lu-Hf isotope analyses, whole rock geochemistry and Sr-Nd isotope analyses, and mineral EPMA analyses were conducted for the studied plutons. The studied plutons were emplaced between 246 to 241 Ma according to zircon U-Pb dating results. Based on detailed studies on petrology, geochronology and geochemistry, we emphasis the significance of magma mixing in the petrogenesis of the Early Indosinian granitic rocks. The high Mg# signature of the Early Indosinian granitic rocks were generated by magma mixing between mafic and felsic magmas, but not result of direct fractional crystallization of mafic rocks. The granitic rocks with high Sr/Y values in the WQO, represented by the Ganjiagongma pluton, were not derived from thickened continental crust. No evident continental thickening occurred in the WQO during the Early Indosinian. Combining with regional geological evidence, we propose an alternative tectonic model to explain the evolution history of the WQO during the early Mesozoic. The A’nimaque-Mianlue ocean subducted northward with low angle, then the subducted slab rolled back during the Late Permian to Middle Triassic, and the ocean closured in the Late Triassic. This model can explain the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of the magmatic rocks and sedimentary rocks, as well as Late Triassic uplift and deformation event in the WQO.

The East Kunlun Orogen on the northern margin of the Tethyan orogenic system records a history of Gondwana dispersal and Laurasian accretion. Based on a synthesis of sedimentary, structural, lithological, geochemical, and geochronological data from the East Kunlun Orogen and adjacent regions, we discusses the spreading and northward consumption of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean during Late Paleozoic-Early Mesozoic times. The main evolutionary stages are: (1) During Carboniferous to Middle Permian, the Paleo-Tethys Ocean (Buqingshan Ocean) was in an ocean spreading stage, as suggested by the occurrence of Carboniferous MORB-, and OIB-type oceanic units and Carboniferous to Middle Permian Passive continental margin deposits; (2) The Buqingshan Ocean subducted northward beneath the East Kunlun Terrane, leading to the development of a large continental magmatic arc (Burhan Budai arc) and forearc basin between ~270-240 Ma; (3) During the late Middle Triassic to early Late Triassic (ca. 240-230 Ma), the Qiangtang terrane collided with the East Kunlun-Qaidam terranes, leading to the final closure of the Buqingshan Ocean and occurrences of minor collision-type magmatism and potentially inception of the Bayan Har foreland basin; (4) Finally, the East Kunlun Orogen evolved into a postcollisional stage and produced major magmatic flare-ups and polymetallic mineral deposits between Late Triassic to Early Jurassic (ca. 230-200 Ma), which is possibly related to asthenospheric mantle upwelling induced by delamination of thickened continental lithosphere and partial melting of the lower crust. Accordingly, we propose that the Wilson cycle-like processes controlled the Late Paleozoic-Early Triassic tectonic evolution of East Kunlun, which provides significant implications for the evolution of Paleo-Tethys Ocean.

Yamusi granodiorite in the eastern part of the Qilian Orogen consists mainly of gneissic granodiorite. Researchers have studied other nearby rock masses, and many studies, such as those focusing on the zircon U-Pb age chronology and geochemistry of Yamusi granodiorite, still need to be completed. We obtained a new LA–ICP–MS zircon U-Pb age of 480.3 ± 1.3 Ma for Yamusi granodiorite, which suggested that it was formed during the early Ordovician period. The whole-rock geochemical data show that this granodiorite is relatively rich in Na and poor in K (K2O/Na2O = 0.40–0.73). The granodiorite is metaluminous–weakly peraluminous and can be classified as medium-K calc-alkaline granite. It yields high Sr/Y ratios (35.17–53.78) and low Yb (

The first impoundment of a super-high dam is a crucial period from dam construction to operation, in which the prediction of the dam deformation is vital for the continued safety of the dam. Therefore, a multi-head attention model based on Pearson K-means clustering is proposed, which is shortened to PKMA. The inputs of the PKMA include measurements of the displacements of plumb lines, water levels, air temperatures, dam body temperatures, water temperatures, and foundation temperatures. Among these inputs, variables related to displacements are regarded as the dominant explanatory factors. Hence, the K-means clustering based on the Pearson index is utilised to increase the weights of displacements in the PKMA. To involve the interactions between inputs, the MA mechanism of neural networks is used to simulate the relationship between inputs and deformation targets. The PKMA model had a maximum MSE of 1.2518 and a maximum MAE of 0.9017 for the model performance metrics at the study measurement points. Compared to the comparison models MA, HST, and LSTM, the performance metrics of the PKMA model are an improvement of an average of 87.02%, 72.42%, and 69.24%.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the status of library and information science (LIS) education in Pakistan, as well as LIS progress, level of employment and issues, infrastructure and facilities, challenges faced by LIS institutions and future prospects of the profession. Design/methodology/approach A total of 115 permanent/regular and visiting academic members from different Pakistani institutions/universities participated in the research. A mixed-method was used, and data was collected through questionnaires and interviews. The data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Findings This study’s results showed that assistant, associate and associate professors have been very involved in producing high-quality research articles and producing quality graduates. This study also found that there are several problems with LIS education in Pakistan, such as a lack of qualified teachers, resources and facilities. This study provides all the answers to these problems. They are useful for LIS teachers and students in Pakistan because LIS education has been around for a long time, but there are still some problems that need to be fixed. The results could have an immediate effect on the direction, ability to survive and future of LIS education in Pakistan. Originality/value Previously, different studies have been conducted on evolution and challenges to the LIS profession, but to the best of the authors’ knowledge, no study has been reported based on the professional experiences in other Universities of Pakistan. According to the research, the findings are crucial for LIS professors and students in Pakistan. In addition, the research investigates the challenges faced by LIS teachers in Pakistan. It concludes with suggestions on how to address some of these problems. It is also said that Pakistan must develop universal standards for LIS to close the gap between what users want and what library workers can do.

Purpose The field of library and information sciences (LIS) is crucial to our educational system. Across the globe, the LIS systems operate at varying levels and rates of efficiency. One of the developing nations is Pakistan, which has LIS systems in all of its colleges, universities and schools. This multimethod study aims to identify and quantify elements that are detrimental to LIS progress as well as evaluate the faculty and infrastructure profiles of universities that offer LIS undergraduate and graduate level programmes. Design/methodology/approach Data was collected from the study's participants, who were mainly LIS professionals and faculty at 17 different universities, using survey questionnaires and in-person interviews. This study used a descriptive survey methodology, gathering information through a Google Survey and filling it out with a premade survey proforma. The survey responses were examined using content analysis. The development of LIS instructional and scholarly output is influenced by a variety of factors, which were investigated using a generalized linear model (GLM). To determine whether there was a statistically significant difference in opinion between faculty members and working professionals, as well as between men and women, the outcomes of an independent sample t-test were examined. Findings According to our data, the factors that have the biggest impact on the caliber and output of LIS research are “poor writing skills” (3.43), “lack of journal publication fees” (3.51) and “lack of research skills” (3.78). The top GLM model identified poor writing skills, a lack of publication fees and a lack of research expertise as bottleneck characteristics for producing high-quality LIS research. The aforementioned factors were 3.62, 2.41 and 2.19 times more significant than the average factor, respectively, to put it another way. Originality/value This study’s analysis revealed that there is no real distinction between the two groups' viewpoints. The results of this study can be applied to problems and challenges associated with LIS education in Pakistani educational institutions.

BACKGROUND: Meta-analysis was used to compare the difference between 3D reconstruction technology and 2D computed tomography (CT) before surgery for primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC) and to systematically evaluate the application value of 3D vascular reconstruction and 3D navigation technology in guiding precise liver resection for PHC. However, there are still many controversies in this aspect, and there are no clear conclusions on the effectiveness and safety of three-dimensional vascular reconstruction combined with three-dimensional navigation in laparoscopic hepatectomy. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically review the results of previous studies with meta method in this study to determine their clinical efficacy and complications and guide clinical treatment. METHODS: We used the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals Full-Text Database (VIP), and Wanfang database to conduct an online search for data from randomized controlled trials of preoperative 3D reconstruction versus conventional CT in hepatectomy published up to October 2021. Relevant literature was selected based on the inclusion criteria, data was extracted, and quality evaluation of the included literature was carried out. I(2) test was used to evaluate heterogeneity among the studies, and Cochrane risk of bias 2.0 was used to evaluate the studies. RESULTS: A total of 16 studies were included in this study. Meta-analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences between the 3D vascular reconstruction group and conventional surgery group in operation time [mean differences (MD) =−40.10, 95% confidence interval (CI): −74.94, −5.26, P=0.02, I(2)=78%, Z=2.26] and intraoperative blood loss (MD =−50.40, 95% CI: −62.93, −37.86, P

Previous studies have shown that the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which can be affected by emotions, is important in the occurrence or progression of glaucoma. The autonomic innervation distributed in the anterior chamber (AC) structures might play an efferent role in the neural regulation of intraocular pressure (IOP). This study aimed to investigate the anatomic neural connection from the emotional brain to autonomic innervation in the AC.A retrograde trans-multisynaptic pseudorabies virus encoded with an enhanced green fluorescent protein (PRV531) and non-trans-synaptic tracer FAST Dil were injected into the right eye of mice, respectively. Fluorescent localization in the emotional brain and preganglionic nuclei was studied. Five and a half days after PRV531 injection into the right AC, fluorescent signals were observed in several emotional brain regions, including the amygdala, agranular insular cortex, lateral septal nuclei, periaqueductal gray, and hypothalamus. Autonomic preganglionic nuclei, including Edinger-Westphal nucleus, superior salivatory nucleus, and intermediolateral nucleus, were labeled using PRV531.The sensory trigeminal nuclei were not labeled using PRV531. The fluorescence signals in the nuclei mentioned above showed bilateral distribution, primarily on the ipsilateral side. Seven days after injecting FAST Dil into the AC, we observed no FAST Dil-labeled neurons in the central nervous system.Our results indicate a neural connection from the emotional brain to autonomic innervation in the AC, which provides anatomical support for the emotional influence of IOP via the ANS.

Background: A panel of experts proposed a new definition of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in 2020. To date, the associations between adipokines, such as adiponectin, adipsin, and visfatin and MAFLD remain unclear. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the associations between each of these three adipokines and MAFLD using different diagnostic criteria. Methods: In total, 221 participants were included in our study based on medical examination. Detailed questionnaire information, physical examination, abdominal ultrasound, and blood-biochemical-test indexes were collected. The levels of adipokines were tested by using an enzyme immunoassay. Logistic regression models were used to assess the associations of the adipokines with MAFLD. Results: In total, 122 of the participants were diagnosed with MAFLD. Higher levels of adipsin and lower levels of adiponectin were found in the MAFLD group than in the non-MAFLD group (all p < 0.05). According to the logistic regression analysis, the ORs were 0.11 (95% CI: 0.05–0.23) for adiponectin, 4.46 (95% CI: 2.19–9.12) for adipsin, and 0.51 (95% CI: 0.27–0.99) for visfatin when comparing the highest tertile with the lowest tertile (all p-trend < 0.05). The inverse association between adiponectin and MAFLD was strongest when T2DM was used as the diagnostic criterion alone, and the positive association between adipsin and MAFLD was strongest when BMI was used as the diagnostic criterion alone. There was no significant association between visfatin and MAFLD, regardless of whether each of BMI, T2DM, or metabolic dysregulation (MD) was used as the diagnostic criterion for MAFLD alone. Conclusion: Adipsin levels were positively associated with MAFLD and adiponectin levels were inversely associated with MAFLD. The strength of these associations varied according to the different diagnostic criteria for MAFLD.

The rhyolites which are widely exposed to the northern margin of the East Kunlun orogenic belt were chosen as a research object to discern the post-orogenic tectonic evolution of the East Kunlun orogenic belt and reconstruct the post-collision orogenic processes of the Buqingshan- A’nyemaqen Ocean. We researched zircon U-Pb ages and geochemistry characteristics of the Late Triassic rhyolites in the eastern segment of the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt in the northern Tibetan Plateau. Zircon U-Pb dating yields coeval ages of 200.4 ± 1.4 Ma and 202.8 ± 1.2 Ma for the Keri rhyolites of the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt, indicating that the volcanic rocks were formed in the Late Triassic Rhaetian–Early Jurassic Hettangian. The Keri rhyolite is a product of the late magmatism of the Elashan Formation volcanic rocks. The rhyolites include rhyolitic brecciated tuff lavas and rhyolitic tuff lavas. The rhyolites are peraluminous and are high-K calc-alkaline, with high contents of SiO2, K2O, TFe2O3, and low P2O5 contents. The A/CNK ratios range from 0.97 to 1.09, indicating that the rhyolites are metaluminous to weakly peraluminous. The chondrite-normalized rare earth element (REE) distribution shows a significant negative Eu anomaly and low total REE concentrations. All samples are depleted in high field strength elements (HFSEs, e.g., Eu, Sr, Ti, and P), heavy rare earth elements (HREEs), and enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILEs, e.g., Rb, Zr, Nd, Th, and U) and light rare earth elements (LREEs). The Keri rhyolite has the characteristics of A1-type magmatic rock, formed in an anorogenic environment after the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean, and was the product of late magmatism in the Elashan Formation volcanic rocks.

Advanced Patch Attacks (PAs) on object detection in natural images have pointed out the great safety vulnerability in methods based on deep neural networks. However, little attention has been paid to this topic in Optical Remote Sensing Images (O-RSIs). To this end, we focus on this research, i.e., PAs on object detection in O-RSIs, and propose a more Threatening PA without the scarification of the visual quality, dubbed TPA. Specifically, to address the problem of inconsistency between local and global landscapes in existing patch selection schemes, we propose leveraging the First-Order Difference (FOD) of the objective function before and after masking to select the sub-patches to be attacked. Further, considering the problem of gradient inundation when applying existing coordinate-based loss to PAs directly, we design an IoU-based objective function specific for PAs, dubbed Bounding box Drifting Loss (BDL), which pushes the detected bounding boxes far from the initial ones until there are no intersections between them. Finally, on two widely used benchmarks, i.e., DIOR and DOTA, comprehensive evaluations of our TPA with four typical detectors (Faster R-CNN, FCOS, RetinaNet, and YOLO-v4) witness its remarkable effectiveness. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to study the PAs on object detection in O-RSIs, and we hope this work can get our readers interested in studying this topic.

Objective. To investigate a rapid and effective method for the examination of coronary CTA in emergency patients requiring coronary CTA examination, who have faster heart rate (≧80 bpm) or cannot cooperate with the examination due to the inability of breath holding at poor physical conditions. Methods. Before coronary CTA examination, with the ECG monitoring, intravenous injection of esmolol was given to achieve rapid heart rate reduction. Without the patient’s cooperation, coronary CTA examination was then performed in a quick and effective manner using the 640-slice high-speed CT. The diagnosis report was obtained through the subsequent reconstruction analysis using artificial intelligence software. Conclusion. Esmolol injection can rapidly reduce the heart rate of normal people during exercise and at rest, and the steady blood concentration can be reached in 2 minutes. The half-life is about 5 minutes, with short duration and fewer side effects on patients. The diagnostic rate of coronary artery segment using (excellent + good) CTA image of the patients with esmolol and artificial intelligence analysis in the experimental group was 95.4%, while the diagnostic rate was 91.1% in the control group, and there was no significant statistical difference between the two groups ( P > 0.05 ). Esmolol injection can rapidly reduce heart rate in patients with high heart rate, without holding breath or long-term preoperative preparation; the combination with the analysis of subsequent artificial intelligence reconstruction is a new method for rapid and effective coronary CTA examination in all patients.

The third isoform of the Na+–Ca2+ exchanger (NCX3) is crucial for a physiological fine-tuning of the Ca2+ fluxes in excitable tissues. In this view, the NCX3 accounts for the aberrant Ca2+ influx seen during neuronal excitotoxicity, such as in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, little is known about NCX3 regulation and functional properties. Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal (W. somnifera), a traditional indigenous plant widely recognized for having numerous medicinal values, was undertaken to determine its potential therapeutic benefit against aggregated Aβ1–42-induced NCX3 dysregulation and the thereof cognition impairment in 5xFAD mice. The undertaken sourced dried roots of authenticated W. somnifera physicochemical compositional tests satisfied standards of pharmacognostic quality, and further phytochemical analysis of the roots methanol extract revealed the roots constitute several antioxidants. Following an intra-gastric gavage administration of synthesized W. somnifera roots methanolic extract from postnatal day 30 (P30) to P75, in vivo cognitional studies and then neurochemical examinations of the NCX3 expression level, Aβ plaque deposition, and antioxidant activities in the AD-associated brain regions of 4-month-old 5xFAD mice suggests that the oxidative stress normalizing effects of W. somnifera constituents, operating on the NCX3, may have a therapeutic role in the improvement of cognition in AD.

The deformation of arch dam during impoundment is critical to evaluate the safety of arch dam, which is influenced by many factors that have different action mechanisms. After the monitoring data at different impoundment stages were comprehensively analyzed, a finite element simulation analysis model that can consider the real temperature, stress and deformation of the dam was set up with the help of simulation analysis method based on the whole process of the dam, which can effectively separate the single deformation caused by water pressure, dead weight, creep, air temperature, seepage and valley deformation. Then, the deformation mechanism of arch dam was gotten and the weight of each deformation influencing factor was accurately defined, thus providing experience and reference for the deformation law analysis of similar projects.

In this paper, the dam of Baihetan Hydropower Station was taken as an example to establish a refined three-dimensional finite element model (FEM) of the dam-dam foundation based on the comprehensive analysis of the safety monitoring data of the dam during the whole life cycle and the simulation analysis for the whole process of the whole dam, so as to accurately understand the working behavior of the dam during impounding process, to do a feedback analysis on the influence mechanism of the overall safety and deformation of the arch dam in the whole process of construction, impoundment and operation, and to predict and evaluate the potential safety risks of different water levels in the whole life cycle of the arch dam, thus providing a scientific basis for dam impounding safety and regulation decision-making.

The adsorption and recovery of dysprosium ions (Dy3+) from industrial wastewater are necessary but still challenging. Herein, we constructed a series of defect-containing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) [UiO-66-(COOH)2] using sodium benzoate (BCNa) as a modulator. Upon the formation of defects, the porosity and surface charge properties of the MOFs were improved, leading to a higher utilization ratio of active groups and higher adsorption capacities for Dy3+. The synthesized UiO-66-(COOH)2-B10 with an optimal addition of BCNa exhibited a superior adsorption capacity of 150.6 mg g-1. Fast adsorption occurred at ∼5 min, and equilibrium was reached at ∼60 min. Higher pH and temperature were found to be beneficial for boosting Dy3+ adsorption, and selective adsorption over other metal ions was achieved in a multicomponent solution. Further, FTIR spectroscopy and XPS investigations indicate that free carboxyl contributes to the capture of Dy3+. Thus, this work provides a promising strategy to enhance the utilization ratio of active groups and further adsorption performance.

In this study, the effect of annealing atmosphere on the electrical properties, optical properties, microstructure and defects of ZnO∶Al films was investigated in detail. The crystallization, surface and fracture morphologies, electrical properties, resistivity, transmittance, Raman vibration and photoluminescence of ZnO∶Al films were characterized by SEM, XRD, Hall effect test instruments, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer, Raman spectra and PL spectra. The results show that after annealing in air atmosphere, the carrier concentration of AZO films decreases from 1.63 × 1020 cm−3 to 7.1 × 1018 cm−3, the optical band gap varies from 3.51 eV to 3.37 eV, the transmittance in NIR increased and the band edge emission in PL spectrum shifted from 3.49 eV to 3.34 eV. On the other hand, while the carrier concentration of AZO films annealing in H2 atmosphere was 5.3 × 1020 cm-3, the optical band gap increases to 3.78 eV, the transmittance in NIR decreases remarkably, the emission intensity of the band edge increases by more than 10 times and the band edge emission in PL spectrum shifts to 3.57 eV. Furthermore, the 4 order LO phonons are observed in ZnO:Al films annealed in air.

Some previous researches raised the possibility of a novel acute myeloid leukemia (AML) entity presenting cup-like cytomorphology with mutations of both FLT3 and NPM1 or one of them. However, the clinical implications of this subtype remain unknown. We describe a 63-year-old patient belonging to this distinct AML subtype, who presented similar features of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) including nuclear morphology, negative for CD34 and HLA-DR, and abnormal coagulation. He had no response to both arsenic trioxide and CAG regimen (cytarabine, aclarubicin, and G-CSF). Given that the patient carried the FLT3-ITD mutation, we switched to a pilot treatment of FLT3 inhibitor sorafenib combined with low-dose cytarabine (LDAC). To date, the patient achieved durable complete remission over 58 months. These findings suggest that AML with cup-like blasts and FLT3-ITD and NPM1 mutations mimic APL, and the prognosis of this subtype may be improved by sorafenib combined with LDAC.

Numerous studies have shown that over-nutritional obesity may lead to pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes and cognitive decline. As the degree of metabolic disorders increases, the cognitive decline is getting worse. However, the cellular events that cause this cognitive dysfunction is yet to be clarified. We used a high-fat diet (HFD) consumption-induced obesity mouse model to test the effects of metformin on the hippocampal neurogenesis and learning and memory abilities of obese mice. 5-Bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) labelling and retrovirus labeling were applied to detect hippocampal newborn neurons. Behavioral experiments were used to detect learning and memory abilities of mice. 16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed to detect the composition of gut microbiota. The positron emission tomography (PET) was conducted to detect the energy metabolism activity of different mouse brain regions. Our results reveal that metformin restores the impairment of neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus and finally prevents the cognitive decline of the obese mice. Moreover, the therapeutic effects of metformin are achieved by regulating the composition of gut microbiota of mice, which may inhibit microglia activation and neuroinflammation in the brain of obese mice. This study suggests that metformin may be taken as a promising candidate for the intervention of cognitive decline related to imbalance of gut microbiota caused by obesity.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between folic acid and iron nutrition during pregnancy and congenital heart disease (CHD) in the offspring. Methods: Conditional logistic regression models and nonlinear mixed-effects models were used to analyze the effects of folic acid and iron nutrition during pregnancy on CHD in offspring. Results: After adjusting for confounders, folic acid or iron supplementation during pregnancy reduced the risk for fetal CHD (OR = 0.60 (0.45, 0.82) or 0.36 (0.27, 0.48)). Similarly, dietary iron intake during pregnancy (≥29 mg/d) was associated with a reduced risk of fetal CHD (OR = 0.64 (0.46, 0.88)). Additionally, compared with women who only supplemented folic acid (OR = 0.59 (0.41, 0.84)) or iron (OR = 0.32 (0.16, 0.60)), women who supplemented both folic acid and iron had lower risk for newborns with CHD (OR = 0.22 (0.15, 0.34)). Similarly, compared with women who only supplemented folic acid (OR = 0.59 (0.41, 0.84)) or higher dietary iron intake (≥29 mg/d) (OR = 0.60 (0.33, 1.09)), women who supplemented both folic acid and higher dietary iron intake (≥29 mg/d) had lower risk for the newborn with CHD (OR = 0.41 (0.28, 0.62)). The combined effects were significant in the multiplication model (OR = 0.35 (0.26, 0.48) or 0.66 (0.50, 0.85)) but not in the additive model. Conclusions: Our study found that folic acid and iron nutrition during pregnancy were associated with a reduced risk of CHD in the offspring and confirmed a statistically significant multiplicative interaction between folic acid and iron nutrition on the reduced risk of CHD in offspring.

Little is known about the role of chromosome 12 open reading frame 49 (C12ORF49)-induced metabolic signal transduction in tumor growth. We investigated the relationship between C12ORF49 expression and prognosis in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients.C12ORF49 protein expression was measured in CRC tissues by Western blot and immunohistochemistry staining. Knock out of C12ORF49 in CRC cells was then performed, and the role of C12ORF49 in CRC cell proliferation and growth was examined. The expression of C12ORF49 in CRC was analyzed in Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) databases. A prognosis model with 11 C12ORF49-associated genes (CAGs) was generated by TCGA databases.C12ORF49 expression was significantly higher in CRC tumor tissue than in non-tumor tissue. Furthermore, in vitro and in vivo loss-of-function experiments, showed that C12ORF49 plays critical roles in promoting tumor cell growth. There was a significant correlation between C12ORF49 protein and the presence of tumor necrosis. C12ORF49 is critical for its interaction with SREBF1, TMEM41A, and S1PR3 in the poor prognosis of CRC.Our results suggest that C12ORF49 plays a key role in CRC tumor growth.

High-fat diet (HFD) feeding for mice is commonly used to model obesity. However, conflicting results have been reported on the relationship between HFD and bone mass. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we synthesized data from 80 articles to determine the alterations in cortical and trabecular bone mass of femur, tibia, and vertebrae in C57BL/6 mice after HFD. Overall, we detected decreased trabecular bone mass as well as deteriorated architecture, in femur and tibia of HFD treated mice. The vertebral trabecula was also impaired, possibly due to its reshaping into a more fragmentized pattern. In addition, pooled cortical thickness declined in femur, tibia, and vertebrae. Combined with changes in other cortical parameters, HFD could lead to a larger femoral bone marrow cavity, and a thinner and more fragile cortex. Moreover, we conducted subgroup analyses to explore the influence of mice's sex and age as well as HFD's ingredients and intervention period. Based on our data, male mice or mice aged 6-12 weeks old are relatively susceptible to HFD. HFD with50% of energy from fats and intervention time of 10 weeks to 5 months are more likely to induce skeletal alterations. Altogether, these findings supported HFD as an appropriate model for obesity-associated bone loss and can guide future studies.

Late Paleozoic–early Mesozoic intrusive rocks are distributed widely along the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin in the northern Tibetan Plateau. To constrain the tectonic evolution, we carried out petrological, chronological, and geochemical studies of the Chahannuo gabbros. LA-ICP-MS Zircon U–Pb dating yields an age of 255.0 ± 0.9 Ma for the gabbros, which confirms the existence of Indosinian tectono-magmatic activity on the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin. The Chahannuo gabbros have low whole-rock SiO2, Fe2O3 contents, and high Al2O3 contents, which suggests a calc-alkaline affinity. In addition, the gabbros have high MgO, Cr, and Ni contents and Mg#, similar to those predicted of the regional basaltic melts, and indicating that they were affected mainly by fluid from the subducted slab. The Chahannuo gabbros are characterized by arc-like trace element patterns, with enrichment in LREE and LILE, and depletion in HREE and HFSE. No obvious negative Eu anomalies also indicate that no significant magmatic differentiation has occurred. The low Nb/La ratio and Ti content in gabbros samples suggests that the Chahannuo gabbros were partially contaminated by the crust during their formation. The Chahannuo gabbros have high incompatible element ratios (Rb/Sr, Th/Nd, and Th/La), which are closer to the category of enriched mantle. Combing our data with previous data from contemporaneous magmatism in the region, we suggest that the Chahannuo gabbros formed in a continental arc environment related to the northward subduction of the Paleo-Tethyan oceanic plate.

The North China Block and the South China Block collided in the Middle Triassic, but there is still a lack of consensus regarding the end of collisional orogeny and the closure time of the Paleo-Tethys. In this paper, we report zircon U–Pb ages and geochemistry for the Shimen pluton in the northern margin of the West Qinling Orogenic Belt to investigate its genesis and tectonic environment. The new findings allow to constrain the end time of the Triassic orogeny in the Qinling Orogenic Belt and the closure time of the Paleo-Tethys. The weighted average 206Pb/238U ages of the Shimen pluton are 218.6 ± 1.5 Ma and 221.0 ± 1.7 Ma. Thus, we suggest that the Shimen pluton crystallized at the 218.6 Ma and 221.0 Ma and was formed during the Late Triassic (Norian). The Shimen pluton is mainly syenogranite and has alkaline dark minerals aegirine–augite. It is composed of 73.45 to 77.80 wt.% SiO2, 8.28 to 9.76 wt.% alkali, and 11.35 to 13.58 wt.% Al2O3, with A/CNK ranging from 0.91 to 1.02 and 10,000 Ga/Al ranging from 2.39 to 3.15. These findings indicate that the Shimen pluton is typical A-type granite. The plutons have low rare earth element contents, ranging from 73.92 to 203.58 ppm, with a moderate negative Eu anomaly. All the samples are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements, such as Rb, Nd, Th and U, and light rare earth elements, and are depleted in high field strength elements, such as Nb, P, Zr, Ba, and Sr. The depletion of Ba, Sr, and Zr may be related to the fractionation and evolution of the granite. According to the petrological and geochemical characteristics, the Shimen pluton is an A1-type granite formed in an anorogenic extensional environment. Combined with its tectonic characteristics and petrogenesis, the Shimen pluton was probably formed by the partial melting of the crust under high temperature and low pressure in the intraplate environment after the subduction of the South China Block beneath the North China Block. This observation indicates that the Triassic orogeny in the Qinling Orogenic Belt had ended and the Paleo-Tethys-Mianlve Ocean had also closed by the Late Triassic (Norian).

The transition from the Proto- to the Paleo-Tethys is still a controversial issue. This study reports a new petrology, zircon U–Pb geochronology, and whole-rock geochemistry of volcanic rocks from the Maoniushan Formation in the Nankeke area, northern Qaidam (NQ) of the Tibetan Plateau, to provide new evidence for the transition from the Proto- to the Paleo-Tethys oceans. The volcanic suite consists mainly of rhyolitic crystal lithic tuff lavas and minor basalts. Zircon U–Pb data indicate that the bimodal volcanic rocks were formed during the Early Devonian (ca. 410–409 Ma). Geochemically, the basalts have low contents of SiO2 (48.92 wt.%–51.19 wt.%) and relatively high contents of MgO (8.94 wt.%–9.99 wt.%), TiO2 (1.05 wt.%–1.29 wt.%), K2O (2.35 wt.%–4.17 wt.%), and K2O/Na2O ratios (1.04–2.56), showing the characteristics of calc-alkaline basalts. Their rare earth element (REE) patterns and trace element spider diagrams are characterized by enrichments in LREEs (LREE/HREE = 18.31–21.34) and large ion lithophile elements (LILEs; Rb, Th, and K) and depletion in high-field-strength elements (HFSEs; Nb, Ta, P, and Ti), with slight negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.82–0.86), which are similar to Etendeka continental flood basalts (CFB). These features suggest that the basalts were most likely derived from low degree (1%–5%) partial melting of the asthenospheric mantle, contaminated by small volumes of continental crust. In contrast, the felsic volcanics have high SiO2 (68.41 wt.%–77.12 wt.%), variable Al2O3 (9.56 wt.%–12.62 wt.%), low MgO, and A/CNK ratios mostly between 1.08 and 1.15, defining their peraluminous and medium-K calc-alkaline signatures. Their trace element signatures show enrichments of LREEs and LILEs (e.g., Rb, Th, U, K, and Pb), depletion of HFSEs (e.g., Nb, Ti, Ta, and P), and negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.22–0.66). These features suggest that the felsic volcanics were derived from partial melting of the middle crust, without interaction with mantle melts. Considering all the previous data and geochemical features, the Maoniushan Formation volcanic rocks in NQ formed in a post-collisional extensional setting associated with asthenospheric mantle upwelling and delamination in the Early Devonian. Together with the regional data, this study proposed that the Proto-Tethys Ocean had closed and evolved to the continental subduction/collision orogeny stage during the Middle to Late Ordovician, evolved to the post-collisional extensional stage in the Early Devonian, and finally formed the Zongwulong Ocean (branches of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean) in the Late Carboniferous, forming the tectonic framework of the Paleo-Tethys Archipelagic Ocean in the northern margin of the Tibetan Plateau.

The Qingshuiquan-Tatuo ophiolites (QTOs), which are located in the central fault of the Kunlun Orogen, can provide critical information regarding the subduction processes of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. This study presents petrological, whole-rock geochemical, Sr Nd isotopic, and zircon U Pb data on these ophiolites. The QTOs consist of mantle peridotites, pyroxenites, and fine-grained low- and high-Ti (alkaline) gabbros (LTGs and HTGs, respectively) and lack mafic lava units. The QTO mafic units can be geochemically subdivided into LTGs and HTGs. The LTGs have high MgO contents (mostly >8.0%), V/Ti ratios (37.41–158.77) and low TiO2 (mostly Pb data yield a crystallization age of 516 Ma for the LTGs. In contrast, the HTGs show relatively high total alkali (1.72–5.66%), TiO2 (1.45–3.68%) and REE contents, high (La/Yb)N (3.37–14.06), Ti/Y (290.78–1058.94), and low ɛNd(t) values (−3.02 to −3.55), which suggest a geochemical signature of oceanic island basalt (OIB) and continental rift-like basalt. The zircon U Pb data yield crystallization ages of 486–485 Ma for the HTGs. Petrogenetic analyses suggest that the LTGs were derived from remelting of forearc mantle peridotites and that the serpentinites (harzburgites) represent the forearc mantle after the extraction of low-Ti mafic melts. In contrast, the HTGs were derived from a fertile asthenospheric mantle upwelling through a slab window followed by minor subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM)/crust contamination. The findings suggest that the QTOs were generated in an epicontinental environment above the subduction zone, which was geodynamically related to slab rollback at 516 Ma and subsequent oceanic-ridge oblique subduction at 485 Ma.

The transport property of a four-terminal MoS2NR/V7(Bz)8 device is computed within the framework of density functional theory combined with the nonequilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) technique. This device is constructed by a MoS2 nanoribbon (MoS2NR) as the source-to-drain channel and a spin-polarized V7(Bz)8 nanowire grafted on the MoS2NR surface as the double gate channel, where the four terminals are all connected to a semi-infinite one-dimensional (1D) Au lead. The transport characteristic is explored by investigating the conductance, currents, local density of states (LDOS), and scattering states. The currents of different leads are dissimilar due to the complex interplay between the four terminals that is otherwise not present in a two-terminal setup. The most interesting feature we articulate is that the induced promising properties including negative differential resistance (NDR) behavior, input/output current switching, as well as spin-polarized lead currents can be fine-tuned by the magnitude of either source bias or gate bias. These features can be utilized in designing multi-terminal nanoelectronic devices.

The austenitic stainless steel specimens with a micro-crystalline/nanocrystalline bimodal structure (micro-nanostructure) were produced by aluminothermic reaction casting method, and the tensile tests and in situ tensile tests were performed. It is found that the stress–strain curve displays the secondary yielding. The uniformly distributed mixed-grain microstructure of the micro-nanostructure is responsible for its strength and toughness. Based on the Hall–Petch relationship of a single-scale and considering the volume fraction of the micro-nanostructure, a mathematical model between the grain sizes and the yield strength is established. The model has a good accuracy when compared with the actual results.

With the increasing penetration of new-type loads such as electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel vehicles in urban power grids, the peak-to-valley load difference increases sharply, and a multi-energy coordination model is desirable. This article proposes a day-ahead operation model of an urban energy system considering traffic flows and peak shaving, which can positively contribute to multi-energy complement and low-carbon emission. The proposed model minimizes the total cost of electricity and gas by optimizing the charging and discharging strategies of energy storage, in which the output of the wind turbine and energy management of the energy hub are adaptively adjusted. The urban energy system is represented by a second-order cone (SOC) energy flow model, and hence, the optimization problem is modeled as a mixed integer SOC programming (MISOCP). Finally, test results on an integrated urban energy network indicate that the energy storage and multi-energy coordination can alleviate the peak load cutting and valley filling. The relationship between urban grid operation cost and peak-valley difference is also discussed. The maximum utilization of renewable energy sources using gasoline vehicles has been presented in this study to illustrate cost and emission reductions for a sustainable integrated electricity and transportation infrastructure.
