Mobile communications networks are a basic infrastructure of our society and, therefore, a fundamental area of study in the context of Telecommunications Engineering. ETSETB provides different subjects related to mobile communications systems and technologies, among them the Mobile Communications Laboratory (LCM) in bachelor's degree studies and the Wireless Lab (WLAB), in master's degree studies. In this context, a new laboratory equipment has recently been acquired to improve the teaching and practical experimentation with this type of technology. Specifically, the equipment purchased is a portable 5G NR, LTE and NB-IoT network meter composed of a radio frequency portable scanner (R&S®TSME6) and associated control and measurement software (R&S®ROMES4). This project has carried out the launch of the equipment and has carried out several studies where the three radio technologies have been characterized by analysing the most relevant parameters such as power levels, control information, service quality, cell identifier and beams, etc. Finally, differences and similarities between commercial networks have been noted, and it has been possible to determine which commercial operator is appropriate for each technology on the campus. The experience and results gained during the completion of the project have served to prepare future activities with the equipment for LCM and WLAB students. Las redes de comunicaciones móviles constituyen una infraestructura básica de nuestra sociedad y, por ello, un área fundamental de estudio en el contexto de la Ingeniería de Telecomunicaciones. En la ETSETB se imparten diferentes asignaturas relacionadas con los sistemas y tecnologías de comunicaciones móviles, entre ellas el Laboratorio de Comunicaciones Móviles (LCM) en los estudios de grado y el Wireless Lab (WLAB), en los estudios de máster. En este contexto, recientemente se ha adquirido un nuevo equipo de laboratorio destinado a mejorar la enseñanza y experimentación práctica con este tipo de tecnologías. En concreto, el equipo adquirido es un medidor de redes 5G NR, LTE y NBIoT portátil compuesto por un escáner portátil de radiofrecuencia (R&S®TSME6) y un software de control y medidas asociado (R&S®ROMES4). En este proyecto se ha llevado a cabo la puesta en marcha del equipo y se han realizado diversos estudios dónde se han caracterizado las tres tecnologías radio analizando los parámetros más relevantes cómo niveles de potencia, información de control, calidad del servicio, identificador de celdas y de beams, etc. Finalmente, se ha comprobado las diferencias y similitudes entre las redes comerciales pudiendo determinar qué operador comercial es el apropiado para cada tecnología en el campus. La experiencia y resultados adquiridos durante la realización del proyecto han servido para preparar futuras actividades con el equipo para los estudiantes de LCM y WLAB. Les xarxes de comunicacions mòbils constitueixen una infraestructura bàsica de la nostra societat i, per això, una àrea fonamental d'estudi en el context de l'Enginyeria de Telecomunicacions. En la ETSETB s'imparteixen diferents assignatures relacionades amb els sistemes i tecnologies de comunicacions mòbils, entre elles el Laboratori de Comunicacions Mòbils (LCM) en els estudis de grau i el Wireless Lab (WLAB), en els estudis de màster. En aquest context, recentment s'ha adquirit un nou equip de laboratori destinat a millorar l'ensenyament i experimentació pràctica amb aquesta mena de tecnologies. En concret, l'equip adquirit és un mesurador de xarxes 5G NR, LTE i NB-IoT portàtil compost per un escàner portàtil de radiofreqüència (R&S®TSME6) i un programari de control i mesures associat (R&S®ROMES4). En aquest projecte s'ha dut a terme la posada en marxa de l'equip i s'han realitzat diversos estudis on s'han caracteritzat les tres tecnologies radio analitzant els paràmetres més rellevants com nivells de potència, informació de control, qualitat del servei, identificador de cel·les i de beams, etc. Finalment, s'ha comprovat les diferències i similituds entre les xarxes comercials podent determinar quin operador comercial és l'apropiat per a cada tecnologia al campus. L'experiència i resultats adquirits durant la realització del projecte han servit per a preparar futures activitats amb l'equip per als estudiants de LCM i WLAB.

Automotive radars can use the wide band at extremely high frequencies (EHF) between 30 GHz and 300 GHz, which has a higher amount of free frequency bands than the lower part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The focus of this thesis is to develop a horn antenna to work in this band with the central frequency of 77 GHz, a Field of View (FOV) of 20º on Elevation and 130º on Azimuth and a reflection coefficient (S11) below -15 dB. It was possible to accomplish the requirements set by the company with a single horn antenna, which is a less complex and more compact solution. This thesis presents the results with a brief review of a two-element antenna array for possible future works. Los radares de automoción pueden utilizar la banda ancha a frecuencias extremadamente altas (EHF) entre 30 GHz y 300 GHz, que tiene una mayor cantidad de bandas de frecuencia libres que la parte inferior del espectro electromagnético. El objetivo de esta tesis es desarrollar una antena de bocina para trabajar en esta banda con la frecuencia central de 77 GHz, un campo de visión de 20º en elevación y 130º en azimut y un coeficiente de reflexión (S11) por debajo de los - 15 dB. Fue posible cumplir los requisitos establecidos por la empresa con una sola antena de bocina, que es una solución menos compleja y más compacta. Esta tesis presenta los resultados con una breve revisión de una matriz de antenas de dos elementos para posibles trabajos futuros. Els radars d'automoció poden utilitzar la banda ampla a freqüències extremadament altes (EHF) entre 30 GHz i 300 GHz, que té una major quantitat de bandes de freqüència lliures que la part inferior de l'espectre electromagnètic. L'objectiu d'aquesta tesi és desenvolupar una antena de botzina per treballar en aquesta banda amb la freqüència central de 77 GHz, un camp de visió de 20º en elevació i 130º en azimut i un coeficient de reflexió (S11) per sota dels -15 dB. Va ser possible complir els requisits establerts per l'empresa amb una sola antena de botzina, que és una solució menys complexa i més compacta. Aquesta tesi presenta els resultats amb una breu revisió d'una matriu d'antenes de dos elements per a possibles treballs futurs.

Fast channel estimation in millimeter-wave (mmWave) systems is a fundamental enabler of high-gain beamforming, which boosts coverage and capacity. The channel estimation stage typically involves an initial beam training process where a subset of the possible beam directions at the transmitter and receiver is scanned along a predefined codebook. Unfortunately, the high number of transmit and receive antennas deployed in mmWave systems increase the complexity of the beam selection and channel estimation tasks. In this work, we tackle the channel estimation problem in analog systems from a different perspective than used by previous works. In particular, we propose to move the channel estimation problem from the angular domain into the transformed spatial domain, in which estimating the angles of arrivals and departures corresponds to estimating the angular frequencies of paths constituting the mmWave channel. The proposed approach, referred to as transformed spatial domain channel estimation (TSDCE) algorithm, exhibits robustness to additive white Gaussian noise by combining low-rank approximations and sample autocorrelation functions for each path in the transformed spatial domain. Numerical results evaluate the mean square error of the channel estimation and the direction of arrival estimation capability. In the developed world, mobile markets have reached saturation on subscriber penetration and connections growth. The challenge for operators has evolved from attracting new customers to retaining existing ones. Various components have an impact on churn. Therefore, it is very important to understand the behaviour of the customers, encourage them in spending more and then predicting the future by preventing their attrition. As the industry is evolving, the biggest challenge for operators is to engage with consumers and retain their loyalty by delivering more competitive and innovative value-added services. While understanding consumer needs remains essential to improve customer retention, other emerging tariffs and services are likely to carry a long-term impact on churn (including national, international and roaming bundles tariffs and mobile services). The churn might be voluntary in cases they want to leave the network they actually are using, or involuntary churn in case of unpaid bills. The methodology used to do the right evaluations in order to achieve strong results in this field is very large and varied. The scope of this thesis is to identify and analyse different appropriate models that can help the data analysts to find the churners in Telecommunication industry. In this thesis we are going to discuss on two important topics in telecommunication markets and their respective predictive models, which tend to understand the customer behaviour towards different competitors: market share in telecommunication industry and customer churn.

Aquest treball ha rebut finançament del programa europeu DISCOVERER (Disruptive Technologies for Very Low Earth Orbit Platforms, EC-H2020-737183) This thesis studies the complementarity of VLEO satellite technologies with existing solutions in the telecommunications market, both in the space and terrestrial sectors. All the characteristics and particularities of VLEO orbits are defined and explained in detail, showing advantages and disadvantages compared to traditional higher orbits. Study of the deployment of the satellite constellation concept within the New Space framework. Next, the business opportunities that can be generated by the introduction of VLEO technologies in the telecommunications market are studied, analysing the possible reshaping of each vertical market and how can they be most benefited. Finally, a business opportunity is proposed and qualitatively analysed in detail using the Value Proposition Canvas methodology.

El aumento de la inteligencia y la capacidad de cálculo de los equipos de usuario (UE) deja la puerta abierta a un nuevo paradigma, en el que los dispositivos personales toman un papel activo en su integración como parte de la RAN. El uso de estas UE como relés es la tendencia dominante, ayudando a otros usuarios al enlace en la estación base cuando experimentan condiciones de mala cobertura. En este contexto, el trabajo desarrollado en este proyecto pretende contribuir y discutir si el UE puede ser consciente de una situación adversa cercana, es decir, pérdida de conexión o handover, estudiando y aplicando técnicas de análisis de series temporales en secuencias reales medidas en células 5G. Los resultados indican que las grabaciones que siguen el mismo camino por lo general tienen suficientes semejanzas para relacionarlos, lo que significa que la historia de un UE anterior se puede utilizar para avanzar una situación que puede empeorar. L'augment de la intel·ligència i la capacitat de càlcul dels equips d'usuari (UE) deixa la porta obert a un nou paradigma, on els dispositius personals prenen un paper actiu en la seva integració com a part de la RAN. L'ús d'aquestes UE com a relés és la tendència dominant, ajudant a altres usuaris a l'enllaç a l'estació base quan experimenten condicions de mala cobertura. En aquest context, el treball desenvolupat en aquest projecte pretén contribuir i discutir si el UE pot ser conscient d'una situació adversa propera, és a dir, pèrdua de connexió o handover, estudiant i aplicant tècniques d'anàlisi de sèries temporals en seqüències reals mesurades en cèl·lules 5G. Els resultats indiquen que els enregistraments que segueixen el mateix camí en general tenen prou semblances per relacionar-los, el que significa que la història de un UE anterior es pot utilitzar per avançar una situació que pot empitjorar. The increased intelligence and computing capacity of user equipment (UE) leaves the door open to a new paradigm, where personal devices take an active role in being integrated as a part of the RAN. The use of these UEs as relays is the dominant trend, assisting other users in the link to the base station when they experience poor coverage conditions. In this context, the work developed in this project is intended to contribute to and discuss if the UE can be aware of an upcoming adverse situation i.e., loss of connection or handover, studying and applying time series analysis techniques in real sequences measured in 5G cells. The findings indicate that recordings following the same path generally have enough similarities to relate them, meaning that previous UE’s history can be used to notice in advance a worsening situation.

With the arrival of 5G networks, higher frequencies need to be used at the mmWave bands in order to find available and broad enough spectral bands. At these high frequencies, with very short wavelengths, any obstacle between the transmitter and the receiver will block the transmission. Furthermore, multipath transmission is not feasible since reflections produce a high reduction in the signal level. For this reason, free line-of-sight (LOS) is needed to achieve successful transmission. This study will provide a complete performance analysis at the network level considering multiple base stations, based on a statistical model of the positions of the base stations, of the blocking objects, and the shapes and sizes of these objects. The aim of this project is to develop a complete analysis of the effect of blocking elements such as buildings, which create no-line-of-vision (nLOS) regions and, therefore, lack of coverage. Con la llegada de las redes 5G, es necesario utilizar frecuencias más altas en las bandas de ondas milimétricas para encontrar bandas espectrales disponibles y lo suficientemente amplias. A estas altas frecuencias, con longitudes de onda muy cortas, cualquier obstáculo entre el transmisor y el receptor bloqueará la transmisión. Además, la transmisión multicamino no es factible, ya que las reflexiones provocan una gran reducción en el nivel de la señal. Por esta razón, se necesita una línea de visión directa (LOS) para lograr una transmisión exitosa. Este estudio proporcionará un análisis completo a nivel de red considerando múltiples estaciones base, basado en un modelo estadístico de la posición de cada una de ellas, de los objetos de bloqueo y las formas y tamaños de éstos. El objetivo de este proyecto es desarrollar un análisis completo del efecto de los elementos de bloqueo, como edificios, que crean regiones sin línea de visión (nLOS) y, consecuentemente, sin cobertura. Amb l'arribada de les xarxes 5G, s'han d'utilitzar freqüències més altes a les bandes d'ones mil·limètriques per trobar bandes espectrals prou amples i disponibles. A aquestes freqüències tan altes, amb longituds d'ona molt curtes, qualsevol obstacle entre lemissor i el receptor bloquejarà la transmissió. A més, la transmissió multicamí no és factible, ja que les reflexions produeixen una gran reducció del nivell del senyal. Per aquest motiu, es necessita una línia de visió directa (LOS) per aconseguir una transmissió exitosa. Aquest estudi proporcionarà una anàlisi completa a nivell de xarxa considerant múltiples estacions base, a partir d'un model estadístic de la posició de cadascuna, dels objectes de bloqueig i de les formes i dimensions d'aquests objectes. L'objectiu d'aquest projecte és desenvolupar una anàlisi completa de l'efecte dels elements de bloqueig com els edificis, que creen regions sense línia de visió (nLOS) i, conseqüentment, sense cobertura.

This final degree thesis is part of a project of the Mobile Communications Research Group (GRCM) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. The project is focused on the development of operations and management mechanisms and algorithms that with the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the 5G era and the next generations, integrate user equipment as part of the intelligence of the end-to-end connected network. This would materialise data analytics solutions that would not need to expose the network to a large amount of raw data collected by UEs. In this context, the aim of this thesis is to create a local network in order to test the different algorithms that lead to the intelligence of the radio access network in an environment beyond 5G. This includes configuring and analysing the performance of the assembled network as well as understanding the operation of each of its component parts. Esta tesis de final de grado forma parte de un proyecto del Grupo de Investigación en Comunicaciones Móviles (GRCM) de la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña. El proyecto está enfocado al desarrollo de mecanismos y algoritmos de mantenimiento y gestión que con el uso de la inteligencia artificial y el aprendizaje autónomo en la era del 5G y las siguientes generaciones, integre los equipos de usuario como parte de la inteligencia de la red conectada de extremo a extremo. De esta manera se materializaría soluciones de análisis de datos que no necesitarían exponer a la red a una gran cantidad de datos recopiladas en bruto por los equipos de usuario. En este contexto, el objetivo de esta tesis en crear una red local para poder testear los diferentes algoritmos que lleven a la inteligencia de la red de acceso en un entorno más allá del 5G. Esto incluye configurar y analizar las prestaciones de la red montada además de entender el funcionamiento de cada una de las partes que la componen. Aquesta tesi de final de grau forma part d'un projecte del Grup de Recerca en Comunicacions Mòbils (GRCM) de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. El projecte està enfocat al desenvolupament de mecanismes i algoritmes d'operació i gestió que amb l'ús de la intel·ligència artificial i l'aprenentatge autònom a l'era del 5G i les següents generacions, integri els equips d'usuari com a part de la intel·ligència de la xarxa connectada d'extrem a extrem. D' aquesta manera es materialitzaria solucions d'anàlisis de dades que no necessitarien exposar a la xarxa a una gran quantitat de dades recopilades en brut pels equips d'usuari. En aquest context, l'objectiu d'aquesta tesis es crear una xarxa local per a poder testejar els diferents algoritmes que portin a la intel·ligència de la xarxa d'accés en un entorn més enllà del 5G. Això inclou configurar i analitzar les prestacions de la xarxa muntada a més d'entendre el funcionament de cadascuna de les parts que la composen.

In this study, we focus on the kinematic precise point positioning (PPP) solutions at high-latitudes during the March 2015 great geomagnetic storm. We aim to discover the mechanism behind the positioning degradation from the perspective of the impacts of the storm-induced ionospheric disturbance on the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) data processing. We observed that the phase scintillation dominated the amplitude scintillation at high-latitudes and the variation pattern of the rate of total electron content index (ROTI) was consistent with that of the phase scintillation during the storm. The kinematic PPP errors at high-latitudes were almost three times larger than those at the middle- and low-latitude, which were accompanied by large ROTI variations. From the perspective of GNSS data processing, the large positioning errors were also found to be related to the large number of satellites experiencing cycle slips (CSs). Based on the lock time from the ionospheric scintillation monitoring receiver, we found that a large amount of the CSs was falsely detected under the conventional threshold of the CS detector. By increasing such threshold, the kinematic positioning accuracy at high-latitudes can be improved to obtain similar magnitude as at middle- and low-latitude. The improved positioning accuracy may suggest that the ionospheric disturbance induced by the geomagnetic storm at high-latitudes has minor effects on triggering the CSs. Therefore, precise positioning can be achieved at high-latitudes under geomagnetic storms, given that the CS problem is well addressed. En este trabajo de Final de Máster se pretende descubrir el potencial que ofrece Matlab como herramienta de diseño y simulación de las antenas que ofrece en su librería y de redes de adaptación. Para ello, se ha diseñado y simulado dos antenas incluidas en la librería de Matlab, la InvertedLcoplanar y la InvertedFcoplanar. Además, se han modificado algunos parámetros de las antenas para ver cómo afecta a su comportamiento, en concreto, como afecta al ancho de banda. Y, después de optimizar las dos antenas, se ha hecho uso de la aplicación Matching Network Designer para diseñar redes de adaptación para mejorar el ancho de banda de las antenas anteriores. Como conclusión principal es que Matlab ofrece un gran abanico de posibilidades y tiene un potencial muy grande de cara este tipo de simulaciones, ya que además es un software que se usa en ámbitos académicos por lo que cualquier usuario tiene acceso a él, y no requiere de una gran complejidad de uso. Además, hemos visto que mediante el uso de redes de adaptación se puede mejorar el ancho de banda de las antenas diseñadas. In this Master's Final Project, we intend to discover the potential that Matlab offers as a design and simulation tool for the antennas that it offers in its library and for adaptation networks. To do this, two antennas included in the Matlab library, the InvertedLcoplanar and the InvertedFcoplanar, have been designed and simulated. In addition, some parameters of the antennas have been modified to see how it affects their behavior, specifically, how it affects bandwidth. And, after optimizing the two antennas, the Matching Network Designer application has been used to design matching networks to improve the bandwidth of the previous antennas. The main conclusion is that Matlab offers a wide range of possibilities and has great potential for this type of simulation, since it is also a software that is used in academic settings, so any user has access to it, and does not require highly complex to use. In addition, we have seen that through the use of adaptation networks, the bandwidth of the designed antennas can be improved. En aquest treball de Final de Màster es pretén descobrir el potencial que ofereix Matlab com a eina de disseny i simulació de les antenes que ofereix a la seva llibreria i de xarxes d'adaptació. Per això, s'han dissenyat i simulat dues antenes incloses a la llibreria de Matlab, la InvertedLcoplanar i la InvertedFcoplanar. A més, s'han modificat alguns paràmetres de les antenes per veure com afecta el seu comportament, en concret, com afecta l'amplada de banda. I, després d'optimitzar les dues antenes, s'ha fet ús de l'aplicació Matching Network Designer per dissenyar xarxes d'adaptació per millorar l'amplada de banda de les antenes anteriors. Com a conclusió principal és que Matlab ofereix un gran ventall de possibilitats i té un potencial molt gran de cara aquest tipus de simulacions, ja que a més és un programari que es fa servir en àmbits acadèmics per la qual cosa qualsevol usuari hi té accés, i no requereix duna gran complexitat dús. A més, hem vist que mitjançant lús de xarxes dadaptació es pot millorar lample de banda de les antenes dissenyades.

The project consists of an analysis of the different monitoring tools and automation functions in them to find the best tool for incorporating assets. These tools have been tested in a controlled environment to determine their capabilities. It all started with a study of automation needs and a search for monitoring tools. Subsequently, I made the choice of the tool according to established criteria and an adjusted result was obtained, so it was decided to incorporate the second-best option. Then, the configuration and implementation of both were carried out in a controlled environment and a test of both was proposed and executed. Finally, after analyzing and testing the two best options, it has been seen that both Nagios Core and Zabbix have offered similar results, but it has been determined that the best option for implementation in the client network is to meet the established needs is Zabbix. El proyecto consiste en un análisis de las diferentes herramientas de monitorización y funciones de automatización de las mismas para encontrar la mejor herramienta para la incorporación de activos. Estas herramientas se han probado en un entorno controlado para determinar sus capacidades. Todo comenzó con un estudio de necesidades de automatización y una búsqueda de herramientas de monitoreo. Posteriormente, realicé la elección de la herramienta según criterios establecidos y se obtuvo un resultado ajustado, por lo que se decidió incorporar la segunda mejor opción. Luego, se realizó la configuración e implementación de ambas en un ambiente controlado y se propuso y ejecutó un testeo para ambas. Finalmente, tras analizar y testear las dos mejores opciones, se ha visto que tanto Nagios Core como Zabbix han ofrecido resultados similares, pero se ha determinado que la mejor opción de implementación en la red del cliente para cubrir las necesidades establecidas es Zabbix. El projecte consisteix en una anàlisi de les diferents eines de monitorització i funcions d'automatització per trobar la millor eina per a la incorporació d'actius. Aquestes eines s'han provat en un entorn controlat per determinar-ne les capacitats. Tot va començar amb un estudi de necessitats d'automatització i una cerca d'eines de monitorització. Posteriorment, vaig fer l'elecció de l'eina segons criteris establerts i es va obtenir un resultat ajustat, per la qual cosa es va decidir incorporar-hi la segona millor opció. Després, es va realitzar la configuració i implementació de totes dues en un ambient controlat i es va proposar i executar un testeig d'ambdues. Finalment, després d'analitzar i testejar les dues millors opcions, s'ha vist que tant Nagios Core com Zabbix han ofert resultats similars, però s'ha determinat que la millor opció d'implementació a la xarxa del client per cobrir les necessitats establertes és Zabbix.

This paper focuses on Beyond fifth generation (B5G) non-linear data modeling and decision-making tools to optimize cost reduction versus coverage-QoS trade-off, in other words, the number of active Remote Radio Heads or Units (RRHs) needed according to traffic demands. The cost and energy optimization are analytically expressed by modeling the complex relationships between input and output system parameters using realistic scenarios and traffic profiles for low, medium, and high traffic environments. The optimization tool is based on a multi-objective integer linear programming model, designed to reduce the network cost while maintaining a good coverage-QoS and accounting for capacity constraints, User Equipments (UEs), and different slices. Results at 3.6 and 28 GHz are presented by analyzing and comparing several Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) split options in a heterogeneous deployment with Macro-RRHs (MRRHs) and Small-RRHs (SRRHs). Cost reductions ranging from 30 % to 70 % have been obtained depending on the scenario. Este proyecto presenta una arquitectura de desarrollo de nueva generación, basada en la utilización de aplicaciones que ofrecen servicios muy concretos, los denominados microservicios. Anteriormente, una aplicación contenía en sí misma todos los servicios necesarios que debía ofrecer esa aplicación, pero se observó que era más eficiente desglosar estos servicios en varias aplicaciones que se comunicasen entre ellas. Por otro lado, el proyecto está desarrollado con una filosofía de integración y desarrollo continuo, que mejora la automatización de tareas y la colaboración entre desarrolladores. También, se pretende realizar una introducción de los beneficios que ofrece el tener las plataformas y los servidores ubicados en la nube, ya que es la tendencia de los últimos años. Además, el proyecto está especialmente enfocado a la securización de las aplicaciones, utilizando los métodos más avanzados de los que se dispone hoy en día para asegurar la comunicación con la APIs. Por último, el trabajo pretende demostrar la eficiencia de este tipo de arquitecturas y ser una guía de cómo implementar tanto cada uno de los elementos o plataformas necesarios en la arquitectura propuesta, como el código para securizar las aplicaciones. This project presents a new generation development architecture, based on the use of applications that each offers very specific services, the so-called microservices. Previously, an application contained in itself all the necessary services that such an application had to offer, but it was observed that it was more efficient to break down these services into several applications, to communicate with each other. On the other hand, the project is developed with a philosophy of integration and continuous development, which improves the automation of tasks and collaboration between developers. Also, it is intended to make an introduction of the benefits offered by having the platforms and servers located in the cloud, since it is the trend in recent years. In addition, the project is specially focused on securing applications, using the safest methods available today to ensure communication with the APIs. Finally, the work aims to demonstrate the efficiency of this type of architecture and to be a guide on how to implement both each of the elements or platforms necessary in the proposed architecture, as well as the code to secure the applications Aquest projecte presenta una arquitectura de desenvolupament de nova generació, basada en la utilització d'aplicacions que ofereixen serveis molt concrets, els anomenats microserveis. Anteriorment, una aplicació contenia en si mateixa tots els serveis necessaris que havia d'oferir aquesta aplicació, però es va observar que era més eficient desglossar aquests serveis en diverses aplicacions que es comuniquessin entre elles. D'altra banda, el projecte està desenvolupat amb una filosofia d'integració i de desenvolupament continu, que millora l'automatització de tasques i la col·laboració entre desenvolupadors. També, es pretén fer una introducció dels beneficis que ofereix tenir les plataformes i els servidors ubicats al núvol, ja que és la tendència dels últims anys. A més, el projecte està especialment enfocat a la securització de les aplicacions, utilitzant els mètodes més avançats de què es disposa avui dia per assegurar la comunicació amb l'APIs. Finalment, el treball pretén demostrar l'eficiència d'aquest tipus d'arquitectures i ser una guia de com implementar tant cadascun dels elements o plataformes necessaris a l'arquitectura proposada com el codi per securitzar les aplicacions.

El control de la temperatura i la seguretat han estat dos punts clau en el transport i la distribució de les vacunes de la COVID-19 arreu del món. La disminució de preu dels components dels dispositius (sensors i actuadors), les xarxes sense fil més ràpides i l'augment de les capacitats d'anàlisi de dades estan fent que l'IoT esdevingui una peça clau en el sector de la logística i el transport. En aquest context, s'ha implementat una solució IoT de gestió de flotes pel transport frigorífic. Mitjançant una comunicació bidireccional en temps real i l'ús de la plataforma Thingsboard, s'han pogut monitorar alguns paràmetres dels vehicles (temperatura, posició, velocitat...), gestionar alarmes i enviar ordres a aquests vehicles per controlar la temperatura del compartiment refrigerat. A més, s'ha utilitzat Amazon QuickSight per desenvolupar un quadre de comandament per a l'anàlisi forense de les dades IoT obtingudes. Per una banda, s'ha desenvolupat un prototip amb tota la circuiteria i elements necessaris per capturar i enviar les dades dels vehicle mitjançant la tecnologia GPRS i el protocol de comunicació MQTT. Per altra banda, s'han simulat la resta de vehicles a partir de dades sintètiques per disposar d'una petita flota de vehicles i així comprovar el funcionament de la plataforma IoT creada. Amb aquest projecte, s'ha obtingut una plataforma IoT completament integrada a AWS. Des d'una vessant pràctica, s'han analitzat les possibilitats que ofereixen les noves tecnologies i els sistemes de comunicació aplicats en l'IoT del sector del transport. El control de la temperatura y la seguridad han estado dos puntos clave en el transporte y la distribución de las vacunas de la COVID-19 en todo el mundo. La disminución de precio de los componentes de los dispositivos (sensores y actuadores), las redes inalámbrica más rápidas y el aumento de las capacidades de análisis de datos están haciendo que el Yate acontezca una pieza clave en el sector de la logística y el transporte. En este contexto, se ha implementado una solución Yate de gestión de flotas por el transporte frigorífico. Mediante una comunicación bidireccional en tiempo real y el uso de la plataforma Thingsboard, se han podido monitorizar algunos parámetros de los vehículos (temperatura, posición, velocidad...), gestionar alarmas y enviar órdenes a estos vehículos para controlar la temperatura del compartimento refrigerado. Además, se ha utilizado Amazon QuickSight para desarrollar un cuadro de mando para el análisis forense de los datos Yate obtenidas. Por un lado, se ha desarrollado un prototipo con toda la circuiteria y elementos necesarios para capturar y enviar los datos de los vehículo mediante la tecnología GPRS y el protocolo de comunicación MQTT. Por otro lado, se han simulado el resto de vehículos a partir de datos sintéticos para disponer de una pequeña flota de vehículos y así comprobar el funcionamiento de la plataforma Yate creada. Con este proyecto, se ha obtenido una plataforma Yate completamente integrada a AWS. Desde una derramando práctica, se han analizado las posibilidades que ofrecen las nuevas tecnologías y los sistemas de comunicación aplicados en el Yate del sector del transporte. Temperature control and safety have been two key issues in the transportation and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. The decreasing price of device components (sensors and actuators), faster wireless networks and increasing data analysis capabilities are making Yate a key player in the logistics and transportation sector. In this context, a Yate fleet management solution has been implemented for refrigerated transport. Through real-time bidirectional communication and the use of the Thingsboard platform, it has been possible to monitor some vehicle parameters (temperature, position, speed...), manage alarms and send orders to these vehicles to control the temperature of the refrigerated compartment. In addition, Amazon QuickSight has been used to develop a dashboard for the forensic analysis of the Yate data obtained. On the one hand, a prototype has been developed with all the necessary circuitry and elements to capture and send vehicle data using GPRS technology and the MQTT communication protocol. On the other hand, the rest of the vehicles have been simulated from synthetic data in order to have a small fleet of vehicles to test the performance of the Yate platform created. With this project, a Yate platform fully integrated to AWS has been obtained. From a practical point of view, the possibilities offered by new technologies and communication systems applied to the Yate in the transport sector have been analyzed.

This study sets out to examine learner-learner oral interaction during a task-based virtual exchange carried out online using video-based SCMC among 32 English and Spanish foreign language learners from two different universities. The video-recordings of three oral tasks in which learners took part in pairs were analyzed to identify, transcribe, and code language related episodes. These were divided into episodes carried out entirely in Spanish, entirely in English or by combining the use of the two languages resulting in episodes which originally started in English or Spanish but exhibited translanguaging. The aim of the study was to identify the language or language-combination mode that was more effective in eliciting interactional feedback and modified output and thus aiding in L2 development. The results indicated that English episodes exhibited slightly more explicit corrective feedback but Spanish episodes contained significantly more modified output. The presence of translanguaging had a statistically significant effect on the amount of interactional feedback and modified output in the episodes which started in Spanish. These findings suggest that English may act as the default language when the focus of attention in an oral task switches to examine a language point in virtual exchanges which has implications for L2 development.

El objetivo principal de este TFM es proporcionar una guía de buenas prácticas para la implementación del Teletrabajo en las organizaciones, en concreto medianas empresas españolas dentro del sector de las TIC. El trabajo se puede dividir en dos bloques, un primer bloque que trata de la implementación del Teletrabajo en la empresa y un segundo bloque que trata de la gestión de equipos que trabajan en remoto. En el primer bloque se hace primeramente una revisión de la normativa y legislación actual sobre el Teletrabajo en España y en Europa, luego se analizan los beneficios, riesgos y desafíos que conlleva el Teletrabajo, y seguidamente se analizan también cuáles son los factores críticos de éxito a la hora de implementar programas de Teletrabajo. En este bloque también se revisan cuáles son las políticas, procesos y procedimientos necesarios para realizar una buena implementación del Teletrabajo, cuáles son las métricas o KPIs que nos permiten evaluar si la adopción está yendo por buen camino y finalmente, se analiza qué infraestructura TIC se necesita para hacer viable la implantación de este modelo de trabajo, así como las herramientas y aplicaciones de TI necesarias para teletrabajar. En el segundo bloque se trata sobre cómo se debe hacer la gestión de personas en remoto y se revisan cuáles son las métricas y KPIs que nos pueden guiar a la hora de gestionar equipos, así como las aplicaciones y herramientas de TI que pueden ayudar a los managers a gestionar sus equipos. La metodología utilizada ha sido la revisión de la literatura académica y profesional sobre la materia de Teletrabajo y el análisis de casos de estudio de algunas empresas incluida la mía. Como principal conclusión es que dentro y fuera del contexto de pandemia y crisis, el Teletrabajo es un modelo de trabajo muy válido que permite a las empresas mantener sus niveles de productividad e inclusive mejorarlos y que para los trabajadores proporciona una mayor flexibilidad, calidad de vida y beneficios que les permite adaptarse de mejor forma a la nueva realidad. The main objective of this TFM is to provide a best practices guide for the implementation of Telework in organizations, specifically medium-sized Spanish companies within the ICT sector. The work can be divided into two blocks, a first block that deals with the implementation of Telework in the company and a second block that deals with the management of teams that work in remote. In the first block there is a review of the current regulations and legislation on Telework in Spain and in Europe, then the benefits, risks and challenges that entails Telework, and then we also analyse what are the critical factors of success in implementing Telework programs. In this block we also review what are the policies, processes, and procedures necessary to make a good implementation of Telework, what are the metrics or KPIs that allow us to evaluate if the adoption is going in the right direction and finally, analyses what ICT infrastructure is needed to make the implementation of this work model viable, as well as the IT tools and applications needed to telework. The second block deals with how people should be managed remotely and reviews the metrics and KPIs that can guide us in managing equipment, as well as IT applications and tools that can help managers manage their teams. The methodology used has been the review of the academic and professional literature about Telework and the case study analysis of some companies including my own. As a main conclusion is that within and outside the context of pandemic and crisis, Telework is a very valid work model that allows companies to maintain their productivity levels and even improve them and that for workers provides greater flexibility, quality of life and benefits that enable them to better adapt to the new reality. Actualmente, el número de dispositivos IoT (Internet of Things) crece de forma exponencial, llegando a estar presente en prácticamente todos los ámbitos. En igual proporción aumentan los servicios que estos dispositivos utilizan y, por tanto, la vida útil de sus baterías se ve mermada. Para ponerle solución, es indispensable tratar de evolucionar estos servicios, centrando los esfuerzos en lograr que estos dispositivos puedan ser igual de efectivos, pero con menor consumo. En este sentido surge el presente trabajo, en el que se estudia el uso de señales CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum), junto con constelaciones de satélites LEO, para tratar de ofrecer servicios PNT (posicionamiento, navegación y temporización) de forma alternativa a otros sistemas como el GPS o Galileo. De esta forma, se analizan distintas prestaciones, haciendo especial hincapié en la complejidad del receptor, ya que será la que marque la cantidad de recursos que consume el dispositivo. Posteriormente, se elabora una interfaz, con el objetivo de poder comprobar cómo afecta la configuración diseñada a estas prestaciones. Asimismo, se estudian posibles casos de análisis para llegar a implementar el cálculo de la probabilidad de error de bit en una comunicación LoRa. Currently, the number of IoT (Internet of Things) devices is growing exponentially, becoming present in practically all areas. The number of services used by these devices is increasing at the same rate and, therefore, the useful life of their batteries is decreasing. In order to find a solution, it is essential to try to evolve these services, focusing efforts on making these devices equally effective, but with lower consumption. In this sense, this paper studies the use of CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) signals, together with LEO satellite constellations, to try to offer PNT (positioning, navigation and timing) services as an alternative to other systems such as GPS or Galileo. In this way, different features are analyzed, with special emphasis on the complexity of the receiver, as this will determine the amount of resources consumed by the device. Subsequently, an interface is elaborated, with the aim of being able to check how the designed configuration affects these features. Also, possible analysis cases are studied in order to implement the calculation of the bit error probability in a LoRa communication. En igual proporció augmenten els serveis que aquests dispositius utilitzen i, per tant, la vida útil dels seus bateries es veu minvada. Per a posar-li solució, és indispensable tractar d'evolucionar aquests serveis, centrant els esforços a aconseguir que aquests dispositius puguin ser igual d'efectius, però amb menor consum. En aquest sentit sorgeix el present treball, en el qual s'estudia l'ús de senyals CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum), juntament amb constel·lacions de satèl·lits LEO, per a tractar d'oferir serveis PNT (posicionament, navegació i temporització) de manera alternativa a altres sistemes com el GPS o Galileu. D'aquesta manera, s'analitzen diferents prestacions, posant l'accent principalment en la complexitat del receptor, ja que serà la que marqui la quantitat de recursos que consumeix el dispositiu. Posteriorment, s'elabora una interfície, amb l'objectiu de poder comprovar com afecta la configuració dissenyada a aquestes prestacions. Així mateix, s'estudien possibles casos d'anàlisis per a arribar a implementar el càlcul de la probabilitat d'error de bit en una comunicació LoRa.

This project presents an analysis of the state of the art of mobile communications. A brief introduction to the history of mobile telephony and the predecessor generations is shown. The spectrum available in Europe for the emerging 5G technology is shown, where the auction of the 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz band is promoted. We show the active demand for data during the last years and an estimation for the next ones. We also show the services where this amount of data is consumed the most. To finish this analysis, an estimation of 5G subscriptions is presented in context with predecessor technologies. In Europe, the 26 GHz millimeter band is also promoted, which is indicated as a viable option for the development of 5G. Techniques such as Massive MIMO or beamforming can help encourage the use of mmWave. We present a set of simulations to provide indoor coverage with DAS for different frequency bands and technologies (LTE and 5G). This study is carried out in real work offices of Cellnex, the company with which the project is carried out. Finally, we show some conclusions of signal quality and quantity with estimated costs for each solution presented. Este proyecto presenta un análisis del estado del arte de las comunicaciones móviles. Se muestra una breve introducción de la historia de la telefonía móvil y las generaciones predecesoras. Se muestra el espectro disponible en Europa para la tecnología emergente 5G, donde se promueve la subasta de la banda de 700 MHz y 3.5 GHz. Mostramos la demanda activa de datos durante los últimos años y una estimación de los próximos. También dejamos ver los servicios donde más se consume esta cantidad de datos. Para terminar este análisis, se presenta una estimación de suscripciones a 5G en contexto con las tecnologías predecesoras. En Europa también se promueve la banda milimétrica 26 GHz, que se indica como una opción viable para el desarrollo del 5G. Se muestran técnicas como el Massive MIMO o beamforming que pueden ayudar a incentivar el uso de mmWave. Presentamos un conjunto de simulaciones para dar cobertura interior con DAS para distintas bandas de frecuencia y tecnologías (LTE y 5G). Este estudio se realiza en unas oficinas de trabajo reales de Cellnex, empresa con la que se realiza el proyecto. Finalmente, mostramos unas conclusiones de calidad y cantidad de señal con unos costes estimados para cada solución presentada. Aquest projecte presenta un anàlisi de l?estat de l?art de les comunicacions mòbils. Es mostra una breu introducció de la història de la telefonia mòbil i les generacions predecessores. Los sistemas de posicionamiento resultan una herramienta fundamental en el ámbito industrial y social. Desde actividades de monitorización en tiempo real hasta la navegación de los automóviles, es imprescindible contar con sistemas que garanticen una alta precisión en el posicionamiento. El posicionamiento basado en luz visible (VLP) ofrece una solución indoor de este ámbito tecnológico. Se utiliza el espectro de la luz visible para posicionar objetos en el espacio, de modo que se utilizan los focos de luz para iluminar el entorno y para integrar sistemas inteligentes de posicionamiento. El objeto de este trabajo es contribuir al desarrollo de una aplicación móvil de guiado y posicionamiento en un museo. Esta aplicación utiliza los sensores de la cámara del dispositivo móvil para detectar focos de luz pertenecientes a una red de focos inteligentes. Ante la existencia de diversas fuentes de error, este proyecto se centra en la resolución de dos de ellas mediante sendos algoritmos que aprovechan la unidad de medida inercial de los dispositivos. El primer algoritmo permite corregir la posición captada de un foco, en función de los ángulos de posición del dispositivo móvil. El segundo, utiliza un sistema de navegación inercial para predecir el rumbo del usuario en aquellos momentos que no se capta un foco. Los resultados obtenidos con dichos algoritmos muestran que se incrementa la precisión en el posicionamiento del usuario, así como en la naturalidad de su movimiento. Además, estos algoritmos pueden ser implementados en otras soluciones existentes de VLP. Positioning systems are an essential tool in the industrial and social spheres. From real-time monitoring activities to automotive navigation, systems that ensure high positioning accuracy are essential. Visible Light Positioning (VLP) offers an indoor solution in this technological field. The visible light spectrum is used to position objects in space, so that light sources are used to illuminate the environment and to integrate intelligent positioning systems. The purpose of this work is to contribute to the development of a mobile application for guidance and positioning in a museum. This application uses the camera sensors of the mobile device to detect light sources belonging to a network of intelligent light sources. Given the existence of several sources of error, this project focuses on the resolution of two of them by means of algorithms that take advantage of the inertial measurement unit of the devices. The first algorithm allows correcting the captured position of a spotlight, depending on the position angles of the mobile device. The second uses an inertial navigation system to predict the user's course when a spotlight is not captured. The results obtained with these algorithms show that the accuracy of the user's positioning is increased, as well as the naturalness of the user's movement. Furthermore, these algorithms can be implemented in other existing VLP solutions. Els sistemes de posicionament són una eina fonamental en l'àmbit industrial i social. Des d'activitats de monitoratge en temps real fins a la navegació dels automòbils, és imprescindible tenir sistemes que garanteixin una alta precisió en el posicionament. El posicionament basat en la llum visible (VLP) ofereix una solució indoor d'aquest àmbit tecnològic. S'utilitza l'espectre de la llum visible per posicionar objectes a l'espai, de manera que s'utilitzen els focus de llum per il·luminar l'entorn i integrar sistemes intel·ligents de posicionament. Aquest treball és contribuir al desenvolupament d'una aplicació mòbil de guiatge i posicionament en un museu. Aquesta aplicació utilitza els sensors de la càmera del dispositiu mòbil per detectar focus de llum pertanyents a una xarxa de focus intel·ligents. Davant l'existència de diverses fonts d'error, aquest projecte se centra en la resolució de dues mitjançant un algoritme que aprofiten la unitat de mesura inercial dels dispositius. El primer algorisme permet corregir la posició captada d'un focus, en funció dels angles de posició del dispositiu mòbil. El segon, utilitza un sistema de navegació inercial per predir el rumb de lusuari en aquells moments que no es capta un focus. Els resultats obtinguts amb aquests algorismes mostren que s'incrementa la precisió en el posicionament de l'usuari, així com la naturalitat del seu moviment. A més, aquests algorismes poden ser implementats en altres solucions existents de VLP.

En los últimos años se ha desarrollado el concepto de 'ciudad inteligente', debido al gran avance en el ámbito de la electrónica, y que ofrece al usuario un modelo de ciudad basado en la sostenibilidad, seguridad y comodidad, gracias a la posibilidad de interacción con diferentes sistemas (movilidad, sanidad, meteorología), mediante el uso de complejas redes de sensores y actuadores extendidas a lo largo de la ciudad. El desafío que representa la imposibilidad de alimentar gran parte de los sistemas descritos mediante cable ha sido solucionado gracias al desarrollo tecnológico en sistemas de autonomía (baterías) y de recarga. En este contexto, en el presente Trabajo de Final de Máster se procede al desarrollo de un sistema de monitorización de temperatura y humedad con envío automatizado de alarmas vía radio mediante interfaz GPRS, que permite su funcionamiento de forma autónoma gracias al uso de baterías y un sistema de recarga. Para cumplir con los diferentes objetivos propuestos, en primer lugar se ha analizado el estado actual sobre diferentes áreas del ámbito tecnológico del proyecto. Una vez obtenido el conocimiento del entorno que rodea el trabajo a desarrollar, se procede al análisis, programación y pruebas de los diferentes componentes que forman parte del prototipo. Finalmente, el proyecto incorpora mejoras convenientemente justificadas sobre el prototipo y que son añadidas al diseño final; así como un análisis de cumplimiento de los diferentes objetivos establecidos al inicio del proyecto y líneas de trabajo futuras. En els darrers anys s'ha desenvolupat el concepte de 'ciutat intel·ligent', a causa del gran avenç en l'àmbit de l'electrònica, i que ofereix a l'usuari un model de ciutat basat en la sostenibilitat, la seguretat i la comoditat, gràcies a la possibilitat d'interacció amb diferents sistemes (mobilitat, sanitat, meteorologia), mitjançant l'ús de xarxes complexes de sensors i actuadors esteses al llarg de la ciutat. El desafiament que representa la impossibilitat d'alimentar gran part dels sistemes descrits mitjançant cable ha estat solucionat gràcies al desenvolupament tecnològic en sistemes d'autonomia (bateries) i de recàrrega. En aquest context, en aquest Treball de Final de Màster es procedeix al desenvolupament d'un sistema de monitorització de temperatura i humitat amb enviament automatitzat d'alarmes via ràdio mitjançant interfície GPRS, que permet el seu funcionament de forma autònoma gràcies a l'ús de bateries i un sistema de recàrrega. Per complir els diferents objectius proposats, en primer lloc s'ha analitzat l´estat actual sobre diferents àrees de l'àmbit tecnològic del projecte. Un cop obtingut el coneixement de l'entorn que envolta el treball a desenvolupar, es procedeix a l'anàlisi, la programació i les proves dels diferents components que formen part del prototip. Finalment, el projecte incorpora millores convenientment justificades sobre el prototip i que són afegides al disseny final; així com una anàlisi de compliment dels diferents objectius establerts a linici del projecte i línies de treball futures. In recent years, the concept of "smart city" has been developed, due to the great advancement of electronics, and which has offer to user a city model based on sustainability, safety and comfort, thanks to the possibility of interaction with different systems (mobility, health, meteorology ...), through the use of complex networks of sensors and actuators spread throughout the city. The challenge due to the impossibility of feeding sensor networks by cable has been solved thanks to the development of autonomy systems (batteries), and recharging systems. In this context, Master's Final Project proceed to the development of a temperature and humidity monitoring system with automated sending of alarms via radio with GPRS interface, which allows its operation autonomously thanks to the use of batteries and a recharging system. In order to meet the different proposed objectives, firstly, the current state of different areas of the project's technological field has been analyzed. Once the knowledge of the environment surrounding the work to be developed has been obtained, the second step it´s a studying, programming and testing different components that are part of the prototype. Finally, the project incorporates suitably justified improvements on the prototype and that are added to the final design; as well as an analysis of compliance with the different objectives established at the beginning of the project and future lines of work.

Visible Light Communications (VLC) is a candidate technology that complements the benefits of radio communication networks, particularly in those situations where a low-cost solution using license-free spectrum is required to enable ultra-dense deployments of indoor small cells. However, the main drawback that VLC has when compared to wireless communications on RF bands is that, in presence of obstacles between the transmitter and the receiver, full-blockage events are likely to happen as the power received on reflections is much weaker than the power of the blocked line-of-sight link. In this paper, we take advantage of this phenomenon and study the effect that different activities performed by people in the service area to-be-monitored have on the Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) signaling of the VLC link. Based on the presented experimental studies, it is possible to conclude that different relevant events are able to be detected correctly according to the statistics of the ARQ signaling that is collected from the ongoing VLC transmission., © 2021 IEEE. Radio frequency communication of space vehicles has been and continues to be one of the most critical and important points in space research. Without this system, it does not make sense to invest huge amounts of money on these flights, given that, without communication we will not be able to collect or send any type of data. Over the years, many of the communication problems have been solved, except for the problem that we will deal with in this project. That problem is the called Blackout effect, which consists of a total communication cutoff with the spacecraft when the capsule tries to reenter atmospheres of planets amenable to ionization, such as Mars and the earth. In this work, an in-depth study of the telecommunications systems of a space vehicle throughout history has been carried out, as well as its most recurrent problems and needs. We have focused on the communication cutoff in atmospheric reentry and how electromagnetic waves behave when they are enveloped in plasma in those moments of disconnection. Several possible theoretical solutions to this problem have been sought and finally we have chosen the most viable one, which is to wrap the antenna with a matching layer whose electrical permittivity compensates the inductance generated by the plasma layer in communication. Using MATLAB® software, these effects on communication have been simulated and a matching layer has been proposed that compensates the plasma and manages to establish communication with the outside. To carry out these simulations, the incidence of electromagnetic waves on the entire surface of the vehicle had to be taken into account. In our case, it has been simplified by putting the different media as concentric spheres. Once these simulations have been made, we have been able to observe that thanks to the theoretical solutions that have been proposed, it is possible to have communication through plasma, and even improve free-space radiation. Finally, the steps to follow in this investigation have been presented. In the form of the creation of new synthetic materials with the necessary specifications to fulfill the objective of having communication through plasma.

This work introduces a Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol designed to allow a group of underwater robots that share a wireless communication channel to effectively communicate with each other. The goal of the Underwater Multirobot Cooperative Intervention MAC (UMCI-MAC) protocol presented in this work is to minimize the end to end delay and the jitter. The access to the medium in UMCI-MAC follows a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) strategy which is arbitrated by a master, which also has the capability to prioritize the transmission of some nodes over the rest of the network. Two experiments have been carried out with a team of four Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) in order to compare this protocol with Aloha-CS and S-FAMA MAC protocols used in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSN). In the first experiment, the communications and the AUVs have been simulated using UWSim-NET. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate all three protocols in terms of delay, jitter, efficiency, collisions and throughput depending on the size of the data packet and the rate of packet delivery in the application layer for each robot. The results of this experiment proved that UMCI-MAC successfully avoids packet collisions and outperforms the other two protocols in terms of delay, jitter and efficiency. The second experiment consisted of a Hardware In The Loop (HIL) teleoperation of a team of four robots. One of the AUVs was a real BlueROV in a water tank, while the remaining AUVs and the communications were simulated with UWSim-NET. It demonstrates the impact of the MAC protocols in underwater acoustic links. Of the three MAC protocols evaluated in this work, UMCI-MAC was the only one which succeeded in the proposed teleoperation experiment. Thus demonstrating its suitability as a communications protocol in underwater cooperative robotics.

This project aims to study the pandemic applicability of remote connectivity mechanisms by the UTG North Campus ICT (UTGCNTIC) department of the UPC. The work consists of studying the current landscape regarding VPN protocols and Single Sign-On systems with SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language). Following the research, a practical application of the knowledge learned was set up by creating a Virtual Private Network (VPN) based on the WireGuard protocol and integrated with a Single Sign-On system with SAML. The mentioned department currently has an OpenVPN based VPN. This project focuses on finding better alternatives and concludes that the solution still needs more time to finish the development. WireGuard has been used to implement a VPN. KeyCloak and JumpCloud are used as Identity Providers (IdP) for the authentication Single Sign-On (SSO). El objetivo de este proyecto es estudiar la aplicabilidad en tiempos de pandemia de mecanismos de conectividad remota por el departamento UTG Campus norte TIC (UTGCNTIC) de la UPC. El trabajo consiste en el estudio del panorama actual referente a los protocolos VPN y de los sistemas de autenticación única (Single Sign-On) con SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language o lenguaje de marcado para confirmaciones de seguridad). En aquests últims anys, el fenomen conegut com New Space ha generat una veritable revolució en el sector espacial, que ha crescut exponencialment. Un d'aquests descobriments més prometedors són les Òrbites Terrestres Molt Baixes (VLEO) aplicades al sector de les telecomunicacions, per la qual cosa són una línia d'estudi molt interessant amb previsions d'expandir encara més l'economia espacial. En relació amb l'anterior, la Unió Europea, a través del projecte DISCOVERER, busca impulsar les tecnologies existents en aquest tipus de trajectòries, així com nous models de negoci per aprofitar els seus beneficis i aplicacions. Over the last years, the New Space phenomenon has generated a true revolution in the space sector, which has grown exponentially. One of the most promising discoveries are the Very Low Earth Orbits (VLEO) applied to the telecommunications sector, reason why they are a very interesting line of study with forecasts to expand the space economy even further. In relation to the above, the European Union, through the DISCOVERER project, seeks to promote existing technologies in this type of trajectories, as well as new business models, in order to take advantage of its benefits and applications.

En los últimos el uso de enlaces ópticos han sido altamente incrementado debido a las ventajas que supone este sobre los enlaces eléctricos, junto con esto, también han aumentado los programas dedicados a la simulación de estos enlaces ópticos. El objetivo principal de este proyecto es crear programas lo cuales puedan servir para el estudio de este tipo de enlaces y sus componentes además del diferente comportamiento de estos. Para ello se han convertido en funciones de Matlab diferentes bloques del programa VPIphotonics para poder hacer varias simulaciones simples. In recent years, the use of optical links for data transmission has highly increased due their advantages as compared to electrical links, and with it, the number of software tools dedicated to simulate these optical links. The main focus of this project is to create a software tool which can help in the study of this type of links, their components and their different behaviour. For that some blocks from VPIphotonics software tool have been converted into Matlab's functions to be able to create simple simulations. En els últims anys l'ús d'enllaços òptics han sigut altament incrementats degut als avantatges que aquests suposen sobre els enllaços elèctrics, junt a això, també han incrementat els programes dedicats a la simulació d'aquests enllaços òptics. L'objectiu principal d'aquest projecte és crear programes els quals puguin server per l'estudi d'aquest tipus d'enllaços i el seus components a més del diferents comportaments d'aquest. Per això s'han convertit en funcions de Matlab diversos blocs del programa VPIphotonics per fer diverses simulacions simples.

In this project, an audit system of the inventory application of the company, named CROSS, has been develop. The system is based on comparing the database of the application with a database created on purpose of the project, which contain information of the live network of the company. Moreover, the system has been designed to automatically update CROSS based on the reports done comparing both databases. In addition, the system itself will notify via mail the changes that have been made, on the application, to the corresponding departments of the company. All the developed code has been written following security guidelines such as VPN, ssh protocol and user authentication. Finally, the system has been configured to run once a day in order to maintain CROSS as updated as possible. En este proyecto, se ha desarrollado un sistema de auditoría de la aplicación de inventario de la empresa, llamada CROSS. El sistema se basa en comparar la base de datos de la aplicación con una base de datos creada expresamente por el proyecto que contiene información extraída directamente de la red de la empresa. Además, el sistema ha sido diseñado para actualizar automáticamente CROSS basándose en los informes realizados comparando ambas bases de datos. Por otra parte, el propio sistema notificará vía mail, a los departamentos correspondientes de la empresa, los cambios que ha realizado. Todo el código desarrollado a lo largo del proyecto sigue protocolos de seguridad como conexión VPN, protocolos SSH o autenticación de usuario. Finalmente, el sistema se ha configurado para funcionar una vez al día para mantener CROSS lo más actualizado posible. En aquest projecte, s'ha desenvolupat un sistema d'auditoria de l'aplicació d'inventari de l'empresa, anomenada CROSS. El sistema es basa en comparar la base de dades de l'aplicació amb una base de dades creada expressament pel projecte que conté informació extreta directament de la xarxa de l'empresa. El teléfono móvil es una herramienta de gran importancia en la sociedad de la información y de la comunicación, donde los jóvenes son los mayores dependientes y consumidores de ésta. No obstante, la educación ha prestado poco interés a la utilización del teléfono móvil como recurso psicopedagógico hasta el momento. La principal manifestación que se deja ver como fruto de la combinación del teléfono móvil y los procesos educativos es la metodología desarrollada y conocida como m-learning. Además, se presentan numerosas referencias sobre datos, creencias y resultados en forma de beneficios y riesgos que acarrea la utilización del teléfono móvil en el aula. Del mismo modo, se recoge una serie de potencialidades enumeradas por diferentes autores, así como otras nuevas, propuestas más a delante. Para enmarcar y potenciar la utilización del teléfono móvil como recurso psicopedagógico dentro del aula de cualquier nivel educativo se desarrolla una propuesta de innovación educativa al respecto. Ésta va destinada a Educación Infantil y pretende potenciar hábitos, conocimientos y habilidades con y sobre el teléfono móvil de forma activa y motivadora. Por último, como conclusión final, se defiende y apuesta por la utilización del teléfono móvil dentro del ámbito educativo, ya que responde a la demanda tanto de los alumnos como de la sociedad en general., The mobile phone is an important tool in the information society and media, where young people are the biggest consumers and dependents on it. However, education has paid little attention to use the mobile phone as a psycho-pedagogical resource so far. The main manifestation that is seen as the result of the combination of the mobile phone and the educational processes is the methodology developed and known as m-learning. In addition, many references are presented about data, beliefs and results in form of the benefits and risks which are involved in the use of the mobile phone in the classroom. In the same way, a number of potentialities are included, which are listed by different authors, as well as new proposals. To frame and promote the use of mobile phones as a psycho-educational resource in the classroom of any educational level, an innovative educational proposal is developed on that subject. This is destined for Childhood Education and aims to promote habits, knowledge and skills relating to the mobile phone as an active and motivating way. Finally, as an ultimate conclusion, the use of mobile phones is defended within the educational environment, as it responds to the demands of students and society in general.

The recent increase in the demand for higher data transmission rates in wireless communications has entailed many implementation issues that can only be resolved by going through a full paradigm shift. Making use of the millimetric spectrum bands is a very attractive solution to the shortage of radio resources but, to garner all their potential, new techniques must be developed. Most of them are contained in the Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (M-MIMO) framework: the idea of using very large antenna arrays for cellular communications. In this thesis, we propose the usage of Lens Antenna Arrays (LAA) to avoid the unbearable power and infrastructure costs posed by traditional M-MIMO architectures. This novel communication system exploits the angular-dependent power focusing capabilities of an electromagnetic lens to discern between waves with different angles of arrival and departure, without explicit signal processing. The work presented in this document motivates the use of LAAs in mmWave communications, studies some of their mathematical properties and proposes their application in noncoherent schemes. Numerical results validate the performance of this novel kind of systems and confirm their strengths in both multi-user and block fading settings. LAAs that use noncoherent methods appear to be very suitable for vehicular communications and densely populated cellular networks. En los últimos tiempos, el incremento en la demanda de mayor velocidad de transmisión de datos en redes de comunicación inalámbricas ha conllevado varios problemas de implementación que solo se podrán resolver a través de un cambio total de paradigma. Utilizar bandas milimétricas del espectro es una solución muy atractiva a la escasez de recursos de radio pero, para poder extraer todo su potencial, es necesario desarrollar nuevas técnicas. La mayor parte de éstas pasa por la infraestructura Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (M-MIMO): la idea de usar matrices de antenas muy grandes para comunicaciones celulares. En esta tesis, proponemos el uso de matrices de antenas con lente, o Lens Antenna Arrays (LAA), para evitar los inasumibles costes energéticos y de instalación propios de las arquitecturas M-MIMO tradicionales. Este novedoso sistema de comunicaciones explota las capacidades de concentración de energía con dependencia angular de las lentes electromagnéticas para distinguir entre ondas con distintas direcciones de llegada y de salida, sin procesado de la señal explícito. El trabajo presentado en este documento motiva el uso de los LAAs en comunicaciones en bandas milimétricas (mmWave), estudia varias propiedades matemáticas y propone su aplicación en esquemas no coherentes. Resultados numéricos validan su ejecución y confirman sus fortalezas en entornos multiusuario y con desvanecimiento en bloque. Los LAAs que utilizan métodos no coherentes parecen ser idóneos para comunicaciones vehiculares y para redes celulares altamente pobladas. En els darrers temps, l'increment en la demanda de major velocitat de transmissió de dades en xarxes de comunicació inalàmbriques ha comportat diversos problemes d'implementació que tan sols es podran resoldre a través d'un canvi total de paradigma. Utilitzar les bandes mil·limètriques de l'espectre és una solució molt atractiva a l'escassetat de recursos de ràdio però, per tal d'extreure'n tot el seu potencial, és necessari desenvolupar noves tècniques. La majoria d'aquestes passa per la infraestructura Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (M-MIMO): la idea d'utilitzar matrius d'antenes molt grans per a comunicacions cel·lulars. En aquesta tesi, proposem l'ús de matrius d'antenes amb lent, o Lens Antenna Arrays (LAA), per tal d'evitar els inassumibles costos energètics i d'instal·lació propis d'arquitectures M-MIMO tradicionals. Aquest innovador sistema de comunicacions explota les capacitats de concentració d'energia amb dependència angular de les lents electromagnètiques per tal de distingir entre ones amb diferents direccions d'arribada i de sortida, sense processament de senyal explícit. El treball presentat en aquest document motiva l'ús dels LAAs per comunicacions en bandes mil·limètriques (mmWave), n'estudia diverses propietats matemàtiques i proposa la seva aplicació en esquemes no coherents. Resultats numèrics en validen l'execució i confirmen les seves fortaleses en entorns multi-usuari i amb esvaïment en bloc. Els LAAs que utilitzen mètodes no coherents semblen ser idonis per a comunicacions vehiculars i per a xarxes cel·lulars altament poblades.

It has traditionally been argued that the development of telecommunications infrastructure is dependent on the quality of countries' political institutions. We estimate the effect of political institutions on the diffusion of three telecommunications services and find it to be much smaller in cellular telephony than in the others. By evaluating the importance of institutions for technologies rather than for industries, we reveal important growth opportunities for developing countries and offer policy implications for alleviating differences between countries in international telecommunications development.

At the beginning of the 90s, the US, Western Europe and Japan represented the majority of the global economy, while Asia, Latin America and Africa had a strong capacity for expansion but accounted for just a limited fraction of global output. Over the first decade of the new century, emerging economies had an impressive growth. In fact, many of these countries in underdeveloped economies even recovered faster and earlier than developed markets in the global crisis of 2008. For instance, in 2014, China, India, Russia, and Brazil appeared as the top 10 largest economies1 (measured by GDP in US dollars). But even if some of these emerging economies appear to be the largest and fastest- growing economies, why are African companies trading at a discount? This thesis will try to compare trading levels between African companies and firms in developed economies, particularly in the United States and Europe, across the consumer and telecommunications sectors. Three different analyses will be done in order to understand why African companies are undervalued compared to its Western peers: (i) current and historical trading levels of African companies vs. developed markets across the consumer and telecommunications sectors, (ii) trading performance of the four biggest African IPOs during the last three years, and (iii) how African listed subsidiaries trade compared to its mother blue-chip companies in developed markets. These three different analyses will reveal that African companies appear to have a clear discount compared to their peers in developed markets. The rationale for the discount will be discussed in Section 8, and it is mainly driven by these factors: (i) the intrinsic uncertainty of the region, (ii) currency volatility and the inevitable exposure to foreign global currencies, and (iii) operations risks due to the infrastructure development level and the high competitiveness in one of the fastest growing markets. As just stated, Africa is one of the fastest growing economies on Earth. But does the high growth compensate the risks, reflected in the cost of capital? To be able to answer this question, a comparison between WACC and growth across African and Western companies will be carried out. The cost of capital will be translated from a local currency, for example 12 the Kenyan shilling, into the US dollar using Fisher International’s parity conditions which uses inflation to convert WACCs. After quantifying the discount and showing that the significantly higher growth in Africa does not compensate the high cost of capital, two companies with an outstanding valuation will be further analysed, one for the consumer industry and another for the telecommunications sector. These two companies, Nestle Nigeria and Safaricom, can serve as examples to other African companies that want to reach a better market valuation. Nonetheless, the unique features of these firms are built after many years of heritage and a leading market position in the region in which they operate.

Les ràdios de les naus espacials transmeten un senyal modulat a una freqüència portadora, que posteriorment es demodula i es processa a banda base. Tanmateix, aquesta freqüència portadora canvia amb el temps a causa de l’efecte Doppler, que s’ha d’eliminar abans de la demodulació mitjançant l’adquisició i el seguiment de la portadora. Un algorisme per fer-ho ja està implementat a les ràdios de naus espacials desenvolupades per la NASA. Tot i això, utilitza un algorisme d’escombratge de pas fix per adquirir la portadora, una limitació que facilita la seva implementació en el maquinari de vol, però fa que el procés d’adquisició sigui fràgil. En aquesta tesi es presenta un nou algorisme d’adquisició de portadores que utilitza un pas adaptatiu, i el seu rendiment es quantifica en presència de soroll blanc. A més, també es presenta una implementació en programari que utilitza GNU Radio, i es comprova mitjançant simulacions amb una àmplia varietat de ratios de senyal a soroll. Finalment, els resultats presentats en aquest treball demostren la capacitat de l’algorisme d’adquirir i fer un seguiment de la portadora del Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Las radios de las naves espaciales transmiten una señal modulada a una frecuencia portadora, que posteriormente se demodula y se procesa en banda base. Sin embargo, esta frecuencia portadora cambia con el tiempo debido al efecto Doppler, que debe eliminarse antes de la demodulación mediante la adquisición y el seguimiento de la portadora. Un algoritmo para hacerlo ya está implementado en las radios de naves espaciales desarrolladas por la NASA. Sin embargo, utiliza un algoritmo de barrido de paso fijo para adquirir la portadora, una limitación que facilita su implementación en el hardware de vuelo, pero hace que el proceso de adquisición sea frágil. En esta tesis se presenta un nuevo algoritmo de adquisición de portadoras que utiliza un paso adaptativo, y su rendimiento se cuantifica en presencia de ruido blanco. Además, también se presenta una implementación en software que utiliza GNU Radio, y se comprueba mediante simulaciones con una amplia variedad de ratios de señal a ruido. Finalmente, los resultados presentados en este trabajo demuestran la capacidad del algoritmo de adquirir y hacer un seguimiento de la portadora del Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Spacecraft radios transmit a signal modulated at a carrier frequency, which is later demodulated and processed at baseband. However, this carrier frequency shifts over time due to the Doppler effect, which must be removed prior to demodulation by acquiring and tracking the carrier. An algorithm to do so is already implemented in spacecraft radios developed by NASA. However, it uses a fixed-step sweep algorithm to acquire the carrier, a limitation that facilitates implementing it in flight hardware, but makes the acquisition process brittle. In this thesis, a novel carrier acquisition algorithm that uses an adaptive-step is presented and its performance is quantified in the presence of Additive White Gaussian Noise. Additionally, a software implementation using GNU Radio is also presented and tested in simulation for a wide variety of Signal to Noise Ratio conditions. Finally, results presented in this work demonstrate the ability of the algorithm to acquire and track the carrier of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Outgoing

L’any 2019 es va caracteritzar per la planificació de l’execució del segon dividend digital, que, a més d’una replanificació de les freqüències dels canals de televisió digital terrestre, preveu, en un termini d’uns tres anys, la renovació total del parc de receptors, tot derivat dels esforços esmerçats per al desplegament per fases de la cinquena generació de comunicacions mòbils, l’anomenada 5G.

Curs 2019-2020 Tutors: Ana Belén Macho Pérez i Juan Cano García El present treball estudia com l’Impost sobre el Valor Afegit (IVA) aborda els nous reptes que planteja el comerç electrònic transfronterer. Per tal de realitzar aquest estudi s'analitza la normativa nacional i europea de l’Impost sobre el Valor Afegit, avaluant l'impacte que té per a les empreses la consagració del principi de tributació en destí i la possibilitat d'utilitzar el règim especial de la “Mini Finestreta Única” per facilitar la declaració. Aquest nou règim presenta certes debilitats, algunes de les quals han estat detectades per la Comissió Europea, la qual al 2017 va promulgar un nou cos normatiu per donar-hi resposta. The present study examines how Value Added Tax (VAT) addresses the new challenges posed by cross-border e-commerce. In order to carry out this study, an analysis is conducted based on the national and European regulations of the Value Added Tax, evaluating the impact that the consecration of the principle of taxation in destination and the possibility of using the "Mini One-Stop Shop" regime to simplify tax submission. This new regime has certain weaknesses, some of which have been detected by the European Commission, which in 2017 enacted a new regulatory body in response to them.

L’any 2019 es va caracteritzar per la planificació de l’execució del segon dividend digital, que, a més d’una replanificació de les freqüències dels canals de televisió digital terrestre, preveu, en un termini d’uns tres anys, la renovació total del parc de receptors, tot derivat dels esforços esmerçats per al desplegament per fases de la cinquena generació de comunicacions mòbils, l’anomenada 5G.

The network slicing capability introduced in 5G systems facilitates the realisation of flexible multi-tenant networks. Network slicing enables the partition of a common shared network in several logical networks, each configured to fulfil specific service requirements. In scenarios where the lifecycle of network slices has to be managed dynamically (e.g. allocation, modification and deallocation of network slices in response to changing tenants’ needs), slice admission control becomes a central function to assure that the set of slices concurrently activated count with the sufficient resources to fulfil their service requirements. Slice admission control is particularly challenging for the Radio Access Network (RAN) part of a slice, because the amount of required radio resources is highly dependent on the characteristics of the deployment environment and type of cells. In this context, this paper presents a functional data-analytics framework along with a new analytical methodology for estimating the radio resource requirements for RAN slice admission control. Specifically, in order to characterise the propagation and interference conditions in each cell, the proposed resource estimation method leverages statistical information extracted via data analytics from the cell performance measurements collected at the management plane. Results show the benefits of the proposed estimation method under different types of cell deployments. The work is going to consist on building a dataset with images from incidents such as fires, earthquakes, floodings, contamination… in different scenarios. The data needs to be cleaned and is going to be annotated using Amazon Mechanical Turk. Meanwhile a model for recognising the scenes and the incidents is going to be trained and tested using deep learning techniques in order to achieve good results. L’estructura de la publicació comprèn una cronologia dia a dia, els personatges que més han destacat, els personatges que han traspassat, el Balanç per activitats temàtiques i, finalment, una síntesi de la vida política de cada un dels Estats del món. The jump from 4G to 5G connections may sound like a small change that does not involve much innovation, but it is not. Since apart from improving the achievements of the 4G, it will be provided new advances, applications and services never seen before (throughout the document it can be seen). But the most revolutionary of 5G networks will be the automation of network management. It will be carried out using networks that organize by themselves, called Self-Organizing Networks (SON). Like this, from its use, important advantages will be achieved, such as improvements in network performance, in costs and in user experience. In this way, this thesis provides a vision of the SON functions, from the creation of models and functional procedures of two specific application examples. In the present project, the characteristics of the 5G will be detailed and the manual and automated functions will be described. Next, the diagrams and functional procedures of the application examples will be developed, and the necessary parameters will be provided to implement each algorithm of each function. And finally, the conclusions and future developments of thesis will be included. El salto de las conexiones 4G a 5G puede parecer un pequeño cambio que no implica mucha innovación, pero no lo es. Dado que además de mejorar los logros del 4G, se proporcionarán nuevos avances, aplicaciones y servicios nunca antes vistos (a lo largo del documento se podrán ver). Pero lo más revolucionario de las redes 5G será la automatización de la gestión de la red. Se llevará a cabo utilizando redes que se organizan por sí mismas, denominadas Self-Organizing Networks (SON). Así, a partir de su uso, se lograrán importantes ventajas, tales como mejoras en el rendimiento de la red, en los costes y en la experiencia del usuario. De esta manera, con esta tesis, se proporciona una visión de las funciones SON, a partir de la creación de modelos y procedimientos funcionales de dos ejemplos aplicativos en concreto. En el presente proyecto, se detallará las características del 5G y se describirá las funciones manuales y automatizadas. Seguidamente, se desarrollará los diagramas y procedimientos funcionales de los ejemplos aplicativos y se proporcionará los parámetros necesarios para implementar cada algoritmo de cada función. Y finalmente, se incluirá las conclusiones y futuros desarrollos de la tesis. El salt de les connexions 4G a 5G pot semblar un petit canvi que no implica molta innovació, però no ho és. Atès que a més de millorar els èxits del 4G, es proporcionaran nous avenços, aplicacions i serveis mai abans vists (al llarg del document es podran veure). Però lo més revolucionari de les xarxes 5G serà l'automatització de la gestió de la xarxa. Es durà a terme utilitzant xarxes que s'organitzen per si mateixes, denominades Self-Organizing Networks (SON). Així, a partir del seu ús, s'aconseguiran importants avantatges, com ara millores en el rendiment de la xarxa, en els costos i en l'experiència de l'usuari. D'aquesta manera, amb aquesta tesi, es proporciona una visió de les funcions SON, a partir de la creació de models i procediments funcionals de dos exemples aplicatius en concret. En el present projecte, es detallarà les característiques del 5G i es descriurà les funcions manuals i automatitzades. Seguidament, es desenvoluparà els diagrames i procediments funcionals dels exemples aplicatius i es proporcionarà els paràmetres necessaris per a implementar cada algoritme de cada funció. I finalment, s'inclourà les conclusions i futurs desenvolupaments de la tesi.
