- Abstract
When developing clinical practice guidelines and providing recommendations, consideration of the benefit-harm balance is one of the essential prerequisites. In some situations, such as when the margin between benefit and harm is narrow, it is important to conduct a systematic review by comprehensive search for adverse events for a more accurate assessment of the benefit-harm balance. However, there are no studies that consider the means for comprehensive retrieval of the harmful effects in Japan. In this paper, a method for comprehensive search of adverse effects is introduced, involving the use of highly sensitive filters. Exhaustive retrieval of adverse events is likely to yield an enormous number of records; to reduce the number, it is necessary to select the appropriate methods. The scope, benefit and harmful consequences of each clinical questions should be assessed when developing clinical practice guidelines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
