Both institutions opened in 2001, although the JMB's building had been attracting international interest since 1989 when the Jewish American architect Daniel Libeskind's dramatic extension to the eighteenth-century baroque palace, the Collegienhaus, earned him the museum design commission. Gorbey is not the first person to draw on the JMB to make sense of colonial histories in the southern hemisphere; several times he refers to a controversial connection between the JMB and the National Museum of Australia (NMA), another exemplar of the new museology built in the late 1990s. Here Gorbey explores how museums, traditionally associated with the display of objects, can successfully exhibit the story of peoples and communities whose material traces have been subject to deliberate, systematic eradication. At present times, Blockchain technology is gaining more attraction with every passing day, as it has revolutionized the traditional trade due to its distributed ledger feature, every record in this ledger is secured by rules of cryptography which makes it more secure and tamper-free. This naturally led to the emergence of various types of cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin, which builds on a technology commonly known as Blockchain. The rapid evolution of research on Blockchain calls for more research studies for investigating and analyzing the current knowledge in this field through a systematic technical study that shows the impact and significance of the related literature since the inception of the technology in 2013. From this point, in this paper, a state-of-the-art review is conducted on the most influential articles, conference papers, and review papers related to Blockchain published from 2013 to 2020 and indexed by the Web of Science Core CollectionTM (WoS) world's literature database. To attain the desired objective, after presenting an inevitable, brief overview of Blockchain technology, the collected papers have closely been analyzed along seven key research questions. Subsequently, vital valuable findings, such as the top 10 influential papers, yearly publications and citation trends, the favorite publication venues, the hottest research areas, and the most supportive funding bodies are reported, which may offer several implications about the status quo and emerging trends and frontiers of Blockchain, to guide towards establishing a baseline for both fresh and experienced researchers and practitioners before initiating a future research project on Blockchain. Furthermore, a rigorous discussion is provided on Blockchain application in diversified domains, along with different versatile use cases. Lastly, a brief insight is presented into open challenges and potential future advancements in the field of Blockchain. Coastal erosion as a threat to Ghana's coastline is being exacerbated by natural and anthropogenic processes. Adaptation to coastal erosion helps in managing the impacts and the levels of destruction to livelihoods, properties and investments along the coastline. Government intervention in adaptation to coastal erosion has always focused on the development of coastal sea defences without the integration of Indigenous knowledge and initiatives of coastal dwellers. This paper contributes to this gap by examining the Indigenous adaptation responses to coastal erosion in selected coastal communities of Ghana, factors influencing the choice of adaptation responses and the extent to which these Indigenous adaptation responses are addressing coastal erosion. Findings from the explorative qualitative study revealed that coastal dwellers are engaged in different forms of planned and reactive adaptation responses to coastal erosion. It was also found out that most of the Indigenous adaptation responses to coastal erosion were unsustainable in addressing coastal erosion and the choice of Indigenous adaptation response to coastal erosion was shaped by socio-economic and ecological factors or perception. Maladaptation responses by coastal dwellers were contributing to the phenomenon of coastal erosion. Coastal dwellers have survived the impacts of coastal erosion in the absence of support from central and local governments and their unsustainable adaptation responses have become a cyclical ritual over a period of time. Digital health solutions have the potential to complement traditional healthcare approaches and deliver improved health outcomes, but there are system-wide challenges that need to be addressed. These include fragmentation of the digital health landscape, regulatory processes that lack the agility to accommodate the fast pace of digital health advances, and inadequate transparency around data sharing and data governance. All of these challenges have led to mistrust, limited understanding and sharing of best practices, a lack of digital education and awareness, and insufficient patient and public engagement and involvement. In this paper, we argue that for digital health solutions to fulfil their potential, there needs to be a significant increase in early, meaningful, and sustained engagement with the people they intend to benefit. Flooding is a threatening human/climate-induced hazard and the expected increase in the frequency and severity of floods is challenging cities worldwide. Modern flood risk management advocates the diversification of measures and strategies to face floods. This diversification is endorsed by the risk-based approach that – unlike the standards-based approach – emphasizes the need of addressing both the probability and consequences of floods and stresses the importance of collaboration between spatial planners and water managers in the field of flood risk management. In this paper, the politicized Institutional Analysis and Development (IAD) framework is used as an analytical ordering device to systematically examine the interplay between discursive, institutional, and contextual factors in enabling or hampering the shift toward a risk-based approach in flood management policies for the Metropolitan City of Naples and the Metropolitan City of Milan. Striking similarities across the cases and recurring patterns reveal three main entangled governance issues hampering the shift toward a risk-based approach, namely: poor coordination across levels of government, communities of actors, and policy domains. The paper concludes with a set of recommendations for policy-makers on how to address these three governance challenges for successful flood adaptation policy responses. • This research advances our understanding of the poor spatialization of flood risk management strategies. • By drawing on a multiple-case design, flood policies in Naples and Milan are comparatively analyzed. • Institutional, discursive, and contextual factors enable or constrain the shift toward a risk-based approach. • Due to poor multi-level, multi-actor, and multi-sector coordination, this shift has largely failed. • Recommendations on how to enhance vertical and horizontal coordination are provided. Breast cancer disproportionately impacts Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities in Hawai‘i, as exemplified by high breast cancer prevalence and mortality rates. Breast cancer disparities are linked to socio-cultural determinants of health, signifying the importance of culturally-based interventions. This paper systematically reviewed breast cancer studies conducted in Hawai‘i. The literature search yielded 813 published studies, with a final total of 13 peer-reviewed studies that met this paper’s inclusion criteria. All but 1 study incorporated cultural components. By evaluating key intervention components and assessing the quality of each study, the research team aimed to analyze the importance of cultural values in health interventions. Family and spirituality in coping with a cancer diagnosis were key themes in patients’ lived experiences. Other culturally-based components in these studies included community-engaged research and cultural training for health professionals. The collective findings suggest that breast cancer health interventions that incorporate cultural strengths, values, and worldviews may play a central role in reducing the overall breast cancer burden among these communities. The present review advocates for future research to take a more culturally-based strategy in addressing breast cancer health disparities among Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders in Hawai‘i. This paper aims to provide various recommendations for English teachers and teacher educators who are invested in fostering the college aspirations of students. Text generation tools, often presented as a form of generative artificial intelligence, have the potential to pose a threat to the integrity of the educational system. They can be misused to afford students marks and qualifications that they do not deserve. The emergence of recent tools, such as ChatGPT, appear to have left the educational community unprepared, despite the fact that the computer science community has been working to develop and improve such tools for years. This paper provides an introduction to text generation tools intended for a non-specialist audience, discussing the types of assessments that students can outsource, showing the type of prompts that can be used to generate text, and illustrating one possible watermarking technique that may allow generated text to be detected. A small-scale study into watermarking suggests that this technique is feasible and show technical promise but should not be relied on as a solution to widespread use of artificial intelligence based tools by students. Alternative solutions are needed, including encouraging the educational community to work with artificial intelligence rather than against it. The concepts of ‘graduateness’ and graduate attributes became contested terrain before COVID-19 destabilised even the most assured of shared learning constructions. Indeed, for those of us immersed in the delivery of work-based learning (WBL), this has long been the case. Promotion of reductive notions of ‘skills’ acquisition to comply neatly with an employability agenda holds little relevance for those students already engaged in full time careers, and with a wealth of professional experience. What can hold influence and interest, however, is the opportunity to engage in meaningful, agentic, professionally-aligned reflective practices as a scaffolded route to promoting self-awareness and developing confidence in mapping competences from the professional domain to the academic (and vice versa). This paper shares an account of taking an embedded approach to supporting the development of academic literacies amongst work-based learners in one UK HEI. In particular, it will consider the use of reflective pedagogical tools and values in supporting work-based learners to become confident and adaptable writers. Discussion considers how work-based pedagogies and approaches may have farreaching relevance in a post-pandemic landscape, where reskilling and professional agility are likely to become more prolific aspects of education and work. Writing itself is framed as an integrated communication practice that encompasses literature retrieval, reading, evaluation, synthesis and articulation of argument. The paper will describe pre-pandemic academic support activities and share qualitative survey data in which students consider their confidence as both professional and academic writers. In this paper, the author explores the prospect of, and the rationale for, the critical workplace information literacy (CWIL) construct, by situating it at the junction of critical information literacy (CIL) and workplace information literacy (WIL), the two hitherto discrete frameworks and subdomains of information literacy (IL). This preliminary attempt at the conceptualisation of a new construct was guided by the question of what role CIL can play in empowering workers to attain decent work. The author frames the conceptualisation around the 'decent work' (DW) concept, as a normative goal of the critical workplace information literacy construct, and discusses the rationale for it in the framework of the discussion on the decent work deficits in the contemporary work and information environment. Freire's critical hermeneutics and dialectics of voice and empowerment are drawn upon. The paper argues positively for the role of CIL in attaining decent work and for the need for a new construct that would help fill the knowledge and discursive gap in IL and its subdomains and overcome the current silos in the IL community. The author concludes that developing a concept requires a broad deliberative process informed by both theoretical and empirical research, and gives suggestions for future research. Disaster risk reduction (DRR) and sustainable development are inextricably intertwined on many levels. In the post-2015 development agenda, Southeast Asia countries identify DRR as the primary key to building regional community resilience to achieve sustainable development goals. However, a knowledge gap was found in the current trend of DRR research in Thailand that impedes inclusive, sustainable development in the region. This paper reviews the literature on DRR in Thailand from the different periods during 2016-2020 with different geographic foci in 46 peer-reviewed journal articles to identify academic disciplinary trends in DRR fields using a thematic analysis (TA) qualitative method. In searching for themes, directed by Eakins and Luer's (2006) risk approach, relevant codes were sorted, collected, and combined to show the relationship between codes and themes. Findings indicate that hazard assessment for building infrastructure research occupied the most conducted research in Thailand, whereas disaster education was the least pervasive theme explored in academic research post-2015. The knowledge distribution area of DRR research in Thailand has explicitly endorsed the Central part (the urban) of Thailand as the primary research location, whereas the Eastern region (the rural) of Thailand was the least prevalent for DRR study location. The paper concludes that academic research on DRR toward sustainable development in Thailand has been mainstreaming physical concerns, not yet socioeconomic issues. This paper further argues that the future directions of DRR study in Thailand should ensure inclusiveness and include collaboration among local governments and communities to improve the culture of resilience for sustainable development. This paper is an attempt to approach the complexities of interdependent lifeworlds through an engagement with the multiple appearances and becomings of Air. Air's mysterious unknowability calls forth a sense of deep listening and attunement, including the ways in which elemental and more-than-human communities communicate or encounter one another. Seeking to practice ethical and political pedagogies within contemporary early childhood care and education, the authors orient this paper within a posthumanist theoretical framework while engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations with environmental humanities and postpositivist, poststructural, feminist writings. Down syndrome is the most common form of intellectual disability. However, there is a paucity of educational research focused on this vulnerable segment of learners especially in the present novel situation. This paper aimed to explore how teachers tailor remote special education for children with down syndrome amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines. It draws from a phenomenological qualitative study that collected information from online interviews with nine special education teachers handling children with down syndrome. The results revealed five themes: (1) contextualize individual educational plans; (2) meet sensory and movement needs; (3) emotionally connect with children; (4) communicate often with families; and (5) collaborate with community. This study provides practical insight into the enabling practices that teachers use to design the remote special education for children with down syndrome amid the current crisis. This paper explores the spatial distribution of the built environment in the 10th and 11th centuries a.d. in the periphery of Lamanai, a Precolumbian Maya site in northern Belize. Analysis of structures, labor investments, and ceramic distributions indicates that the periphery was characterized by a small, monumental core between Lamanai and Ka'kabish, known as Coco Chan, which radiated outwards, with smaller structures in the periphery. Ceramic assemblages and their distributions show that artifacts are concentrated near Coco Chan, which may indicate differences in access to materials in the periphery of Lamanai. The Gini Index, a method used to measure dispersion, shows that the settlement (i.e., area per structure) has a relatively high degree of economic equality as compared to other areas in the Maya world. The structures and ceramic assemblages in the periphery of Lamanai may help to explain its uninterrupted occupation history. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cultural tourism is a growing type of tourism; tourists visit places where they can practice activities, motivating them to experience the heritage and get involved with the local communities. This paper studies the relationship between the sustainable urban development of heritage sites and cultural tourism. It focuses on the ancient Thebes world heritage site, examines urban sustainability at the city level, then studies the urban context of the newly reopened Sphinx Avenue. The analytical framework of this study emerges from the principles of sustainable urbanism together with UNESCO thematic indicators for culture for 2030 and UNESCO recommendations for urban culture future. Three site visits were held to the city and the avenue in 2022 for urban observation. A questionnaire was distributed among inhabitants and visitors to collect qualitative information concerning the accessibility and visibility of the monuments and the position of Sphinx Avenue in the urban context. Furthermore, semi-structured interviews were conducted with tourism companies to explore the tourism sector's point of view. The paper questions the relationship between sustainable urban development and cultural tourism. Open educational resources (OER) are disproportionately created and/or accessed by institutions of higher education as compared to K-12 even though teachers confront the challenge of outdated teaching materials or, worse, an increasing trend by school districts to discontinue textbook adoption altogether. In this paper, we describe a sustainable and innovative example of OER-enabled pedagogy (OEP) that partners teachers and students across institutional boundaries to address these problems. The Pathways Project (PP) is a higher education and K-12 community of 350 world-language teachers, students, and staff that engage in the 5Rs (retain, reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute) of OEP with a repository of more than 800 OER ancillary activities that support standards-based pedagogy for 10 world languages and cultures. The PP is innovative because it fosters renewable assignments for the entire disciplinary ecosystem unlike most OEP studies that discuss renewable assignments limited to a single course. Teacher education is one of the best places to engage OEP because teachers are trained to personalize and contextualize OER materials for their local classroom needs. In so doing, the PP community receives timely discipline-specific professional development that is in high demand, especially in rural communities where teachers are isolated. Higher education-K-12 OEP partnerships are rare, and yet teacher education programs exist in most universities and can be a logical place to start. This paper provides concrete examples and practical steps that are transferable to other disciplines looking to engage in similar types of OER-OEP collaboration and community engagement. Rural tourism development is increasingly implemented by a lot of countries. By involving the community this kind of tourism is able to improve rural areas economy and earnings of villagers. This paper aims to examine studies on rural tourism clusters with the basis of Community Based Tourism in many countries. It is a systematic literature review whose data collection was carried from Google Scholar and Scopus data base and collecting journal article papers published within 2010-2020. Of that search, 70 articles which have similar themes to the present study were obtained. To process the literature, VOS viewer software was utilized to analyze and visualize the data. Findings showed that there are three big themes of rural tourism study. Upon the three clusters, it is recognizable that studies focusing on rural tourism, rural tourism cluster, and community based tourism have been conducted partially. However, there has been no study that combines two concepts of cluster and community based tourism simultaneously. From the results of the literature review, it was found that the development of rural tourism using a cluster approach or community based tourism has been proven to be successful in improving the rural economy. In addition, studies on rural tourism were mostly done during 2014-2018, while after these periods there was none. According to the findings, gaps in study of the implementation of two approaches, namely cluster and Community Based Tourism are widely open to be studied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Using a postqualitative inquiry approach, the purpose of this paper is to make sense of playful making events that took place at a community makerspace during an afterschool enrichment opportunity and to explore those events as ways we might deterritorialize traditional composition practices and pedagogies in the literacy classroom. Design/methodology/approach: Thinking alongside theories (Jackson and Mazzei, 2012) of (de/re)territorialization, becoming (Deleuze and Guattari, 1987) and intimacy with objects (Bennett, 2010), the author argues that children are always, already engaged in writing practices through their everyday maker literacies. Findings: By analyzing three different moments when young people were engaged in self-directed maker literacies, this paper illustrates how children's playful compositions are writing practices and mimic many of the skills teachers seek out during more traditional writing instruction. The author also argues that literacy educators must deterritorialize their own practices to notice the ways children are engaged in these skills. Originality/value: Written as a narrative, this paper adds to the ever-growing body of work that suggests seeing humans/nonhuman objects as being in co-relational partnerships offers us new ways to conceptualize literacy practice. Additionally, rather than call for a dismissal of traditional practices, the author encourages us to add to existing practices for a more robust and creative engagement with literacies. This paper contributes to the discussion on climate change impacts, livelihood diversification, and deagrarianization in arid and semi-arid regions. Using the semi-arid region of Guinea as a case study, this paper is the first to discuss the primary factors driving smallholder farmers into artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) in arid and semi-arid regions. Drawing on in-depth interviews and root-cause analysis, we find that increasing climate change impacts 'force' smallholder farmers to switch into artisanal gold mining. Smallholder farming in semi-arid Guinea is largely rainfed and erratic rainfall and increasing temperatures have affected crop production and farmers' income, driving many smallholder farmers into artisanal gold mining to have a more sustainable income. While artisanal gold mining has improved smallholder farmers' socioeconomic conditions, the agriculture exodus has significantly affected crop production, food prices, and rural agriculture labor dynamics. Agroecological, financial, and technical support could improve the adaptive capacity of climate impacted smallholder farmers in arid and semi-arid regions. • Agrarian communities are now transforming into artisanal mining communities due primarily to climate change. • Dry farmlands, low farm productivity, and low farm income are secondary factors that drive farmers into the ASM economy. • Farmers converted to miners to cope with climate change impacts and not necessarily to 'get rich quick'. • Smallholder farmers in semi-arid Guinea lack access to climate adaptive strategies. • Livelihood diversification from farming to ASM affects rural socioeconomics and threatens food security. Social innovation (SI) has been championed as an integral feature of community-led rural development. However, the choice of the term "innovation" prompts a number of questions about the intensity and novelty of SI initiatives. In this paper, these issues are examined through the lens of radical and incremental innovation theory. By analysing features of radical and incremental SI, we can better understand the different social reconfigurations that can respond effectively to a range of rural needs and opportunities. The article aims at explaining the meaning and operationalisation of radical and incremental SI in rural areas. A multiple case study method was adopted for the research. Empirical data was gathered from two initiatives located in rural areas of Spain and Scotland and the main methods used were semi-structured interviews and qualitative content analysis. The findings illustrate how radical and incremental SIs can lead to sustainable development and social change. However, they imply social reconfigurations of different intensity that respond to the different attitudes and aspirations of the actors involved. The paper shows three diverging development trajectories for SI initiatives and discusses the role of conflict, skills and planning in these processes. Further, the more fluid nature of SI compared to technological innovation is clarified. In the conclusion we argue that public actors should identify the different aspirations of local actors and set the stage for the activation of the local society. Purpose: Within a gated community, management of common property presents great challenges. Therefore, the diagnostic social ecological system (SES) framework proposed by Elinor Ostrom providing a holistic understanding of complex collective action problems in terms of management of commons is used to investigate key institutional-social-ecological factors influencing collective action in the context of gated communities. Design/methodology/approach: In this paper, Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) was used to systematically screen and review the relevant literature from 2000 to 2022, where 28 papers were selected for further analysis. Findings: The study systematically identifies and categorises a series of variables related to self-organizing management in the gated community, and consequently a SES-based gated community management framework is developed. Based on the conceptual framework, the paper discusses logical interrelationships of institutional-social-ecological factors and their impacts on collective action performance of gated communities. Research limitations/implications: Apart from requiring empirical validation, the conceptual SES-based gated community management framework is certainly subject to continuous improvement in terms of refinement and addition of other potential determinants of gated community collective action. Originality/value: Not only the review paper provides updates on the latest gated-community collective action research, it also contributes theoretically by conceptualizing the SES framework and its institutional–social–ecological design principles in gated community management. This sociolinguistic paper intends to investigate the perceptions of adult bilingual learners to explore whether they view Punjabi use as a blessing or a barrier as a mode of interaction and communication in light of the impact of social attitudes. A mixed-method approach was used to obtain the data. An online circulation of questionnaires among 100 female students from two universities in Sialkot was made, and follow-up interviews were conducted with two students from each university. Government protected areas are the most dominant governance type in the global network of protected areas, but in recent years, a lack of research compared to indigenous and private nongovernment protected areas has become evident. Consequently, community-inclusive conservation strategies consistent with the advantages of government protected areas are unclarified. Focusing on 49 households living at the Mount Huangshan World Natural Heritage Site in eastern China, this paper uses qualitative research triangulation to explain the causality between community exclusion and local distrust of the protected area and builds an explanation concerning the political and economic context. The questionnaire data analysed from the configuration perspective were corroborated with interviews and archival data, presenting innovative and enlightening findings. Lack of participation alone does not elicit local protests against biohabitat conservation, and government performance determines the trustworthiness of the government protected area. When local households are unaware of the government's efforts, a "trust paradox" in which the households that receive economic gains distrust government PAs emerges. This is caused by the social expectations of the "responsible government" and the survivorship bias of the households who manage to succeed in profiting. Induced or mandatory community participation is needed to strengthen the indigenous perception of the link between local development and government performance. In the frame of the museums' reflexive and participatory turn and given that curation has rarely been used as an inclusive practice, the co-curating project "Together We Curate" initiated by the MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts (Thessaloniki, Greece) after the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic has served as an attempt to break with established theory and practice. The paper discusses the participatory experience of a co-curating exhibition and critically examines if and how such an approach enables curating to become a collective and inclusive practice contributing to the democratization of culture. Via a practiceled research methodology, the paper reflects on how a shift in the institution's received practices can serve as a vehicle for togetherness, enabling participants to become active agents. Furthermore it discusses issues of sharing authorship, re-negotiation of institutional authority and power relations through participatory actions, possibly opening new spaces for thought and action in the process of democratizing art and culture. In recent years, predictive analysis has attracted a lot of interest due to advances in technology, particularly in the large data and machine learning fields. The advancement in technology has also scored the cases of cybercrimes. The majority of the time, a mathematical model that captures important trends is built using data that is historical. The predictive model is used to analyze data to forecast certain parameters or trends or to advise actions to achieve the best results. Artificial neural network (ANN) is an effective technique for such predictions. In this paper, ANN is used for prediction from a survey-based dataset that has been created from the students of universities of J&K Union Territory. The dataset that is used has been created with a dire need to understand the level of students in terms of their knowledge and understanding of cybercrimes. A very imperative way to prevent cyber against people is to make people aware of crimes and by training them for the same. For such a problem, a model is proposed to predict the need for cyber training among students using ANN. In this paper, ANN with back-propagation is proposed as a tool to predict whether there is a need for cyber training for individuals. Numerous cases have been reported in the cyber cell of J&K where cybercrimes have been registered by individuals. Purpose - this paper maps out the cooperation space between partners responsible for tension monitoring and cohesion delivery in Wales. The network, labelled Cohesion Delivery Network (CDN), is examined using a mixed method approach. The final output provides a visualisation of the cooperation space between seven key stakeholder groups and indicates what predictive factors cause increased and decreased cooperation. The final section of this paper provides explanatory accounts of the findings made, providing an insight into why and how the cooperation exists. Key Findings - Analyses of cooperation findings indicate gaps and bottlenecks within the network that were not previously understood. Cooperation faults and gaps relate to both cooperation frequency and cooperation quality. MDS and PCA procedures provide evidence that clustering exists between stakeholder groups in the network, with the axes helping to explain these. Predictive factors are found for cooperation frequency within the network and are cross-examined in three separate models, relating to different stakeholder clustering's identified. We also found that some partners act as a 'gateway' for other stakeholders to enter the inner circle of cooperation. Finally, reasons are provided for clustering and cooperation faults by open questions. These are broadly caused by two factors (1) the lack of a cohesive cross-agency agenda and (2) the network and particular roles only recently being established. Value - This research paper presents the first empirical evidence of the CDN cooperation in Wales. Evidence shows the structure of the network, highlighting cooperation frequency and quality. Whilst the process of gentrification in rural spaces is widely recognised, there has been less focus to date on the emergence of rural super-gentrification - defined as the displacement of the wealthy from rural communities by the super-wealthy. Of the limited work which has been conducted on super-gentrification, this has focused on the nature and outcomes of displacement taking place in different rural settings without considering the actions of key agents, such as planners and estate agents. Consequently, this paper explores the role of gentrifying agents - namely planners and estate agents - in shaping processes of rural super-gentrification in the English countryside. The paper highlights how restrictive planning regimes, including constraints on higher plot densities, contribute to 'rural exclusivity' and rural super-gentrification. Within such contexts, the promotional and steering strategies of estate agents - based upon incomers perceived economic and cultural capital - also facilitate rural super-gentrification. In such a way, the paper advances existing consumption-side theories of gentrification by highlighting desires by super-wealthy incomers for consuming rural village locations with local services, a slower pace of life and a 'sense of community'. In addition, the importance of privacy and seclusion, urban proximity and connectivity and access to educational circuits by incomers also shape the promotional and steering strategies of estate agents. Depopulation, commonly labelled as shrinkage, of rural areas can lead to a self-reinforcing vicious cycle of decreased regional vitality. However, some regions have been able to adapt to shrinkage and maintain their vitality despite the population loss. Thus, they have been able to "shrink smart". While there is a growing interest in this topic and particularly in the policies facilitating adaptation to depopulation, there is no commonly agreed measure to depict smart shrinkage. This paper aims at devising novel metrics for benchmarking the (full) development potential of depopulating rural areas as a way forward in the study of smart shrinkage. This paper reports a case study of the community revitalization initiative in Bishan Village, Anhui Province, China, which is art-oriented and overseen by the renowned art curator Ou Ning and his colleagues. The Bishan Project, launched in 2011, is analysed as an attempt to revive the countryside through cultural and creative innovations. This responds to the recent emphasis in rural studies on arts and creativities as effective interventions into rural revival and development. To comprehend the vibrant, resilient, and innovative ruralities that are proliferating around the world, the post-productivism thesis casts important light on the revival and revalorization of rural places by way of the diversification of rural livelihoods and economies. However, the focus on cultural consumption by urban consumers cannot account for the varied constellations of economic, social, and cultural innovations that contribute to the swift reinvention of rurality. Engaging instead with the literature on rural creativity, which examines the crucial role of creative practices in restoring rural subjectivities and remedying the social fabrics in rural regions, this study suggests that creative initiatives intervene in and catalyst the restoration of local cultures and social relations, and contribute to an evolutionary resilience that is nonetheless contested and indeterminate, revolving around tensions between the cultural authority of artists and villagers' uneven participation; and between local villagers' aspiration for economic development and artists' reluctance to capitalize on rural creativities. • The need to theorize reinvention of rurality becomes imperative amid urban-rural integration. • The post-productivism approach sheds light on the diversification of rural livelihoods. • The rural creativity literature pays more attention to endogenous development. • Socially engaged arts provide a relational means of knowledge making. • This paper investigates art-based rural revitalization in Bishan Village, China. Rural China is experiencing rapid socioeconomic transformations, including suburbanisation and rural gentrification. In this paper, we argue that to understand these processes, we have to take into account the changes in rural land rights. Based on an analysis of a pilot case for China's rural collective commercial construction land (RCCCL) reform policy at the edge of Chengdu City, we demonstrate how state-led rural land reform paves the way for stealthy land dispossession and rural gentrification. Our argument in this paper is threefold. First, given the entrenched collective land use rights of rural villagers in China, state-led land commodification, is a necessary condition for rural gentrification in China. Secondly, the prospect of capital accumulation through rural gentrification motivates entrepreneurial public and private actors to promote such reforms in ways that dispossess rural peasants and peasant collectives of their land (use) rights. Thirdly, the particularities of dispossession through state-led land reform result in particular experiences of displacement and displacement pressure on the side of affected rural communities. Our findings contribute to the decentring of rural gentrification theory, in that they underline the necessity to include the particular histories of land commodification and dispossession in our understanding of rural gentrification in contexts where rural land is partly or wholly shielded from market influences. In this study of the Andean town of Chuschi and its surrounding district of the same name, we consider the impacts of the proliferation of fencing on once open land. The paper contributes to a growing body of literature on the practice and impact of land fragmentation through fencing around the world, with positive and negative impacts having been noted. The analysis is based on 23 semi-structured interviews with community members and community leaders of Chuschi and the surrounding towns of Yanaccocha, Huaracco, Chaquiccocha, Pucruhuasi, Wacraccocha, Lerqona and Yupana. Some of the interviewees considered the fencing off of parcels of the communal land to be beneficial for land management, while others felt the practice was not ecologically or socially beneficial overall and created tensions in the community. In particular, some interviewees noted resentment towards those perceived to be 'ambitious' in terms of acquiring exclusive use of additional land. In conclusion, it appears that fencing, as practiced in Chuschi, may be a calculated approach to land management that some perceive to have overall collective benefits but, if not well governed, it also has the potential to be invasive and disruptive for communal Andean life. Purpose - The paper aims to study the applicability of Lefebvre's everyday life theory "production of space" in Sheraton's in-between spaces upon local residents' daily practices. Space as Lefebvre said is a result and cause, product and producer. Sheraton District, Cairo comprises lots of underutilized spaces between buildings. The in-between spaces have great potentials for accommodating diverse activities. The present study addresses the phenomenon of in-between spaces in this district. It is argued that in-between spaces can be developed to realize better functional and symbolic values, as the users attach special meanings based on users' everyday living. Design/methodology/approach - The study adopts a qualitative approach to investigate the above relationship on the mentioned district. The study devises direct observation to investigate people's behavioral patterns in such appropriated areas to analyze them in the light of preceding literature. Findings - The study concludes that people's everyday practices could re-invent the in-between spaces by realizing new functions and meanings in dynamic and creative ways. That experience can apply to other underutilized spaces in the district and the city toward improving the built environment and the quality of residents' life. Research limitations/implications - Finally, it is important to note that the findings of the study are limited to the studied context. Undertaking similar studies to other in-between spaces in Cairo, in other Egyptian cities or other countries may yield different findings. It may be equally interesting to study the means of adaptation in other underutilized urban spaces, such as those found underneath bridges, underneath buildings and on the rooftops. Originality/value - The main aim of the present study is to examine the impact of everyday practices on the appropriation of a transformed in-between space in the aforementioned district, and the extent to which that may improve in-between spaces' role toward the local community, in order to promote such approach for developing many underutilized in-between spaces in the area. Toward realizing this goal, the study begins with a theoretical background about everyday life. Then, the paper addresses the theory of space appropriation. In the context of urbanisation and the decline of the countryside, reverse entrepreneurship cannot be separated from integration, referring to a process of mutual trust and cooperation between reverse (returnee or immigrant from urban areas) entrepreneur, host community and external stakeholders for sustainable livelihoods. With a geographic focus on poor areas of China, this paper aims to reveal key factors behind successful initiatives of reverse entrepreneurship to address challenges facing local communities, and pathways for mobilising and effectively using various resources, both internally and externally. These objectives are addressed through multiple cases of tourism development in Ganzi, a Tibetan Minority Prefecture of Sichuan. This paper contributes to the literature on entrepreneurial integration to debates on reverse entrepreneurship in three aspects. Firstly, entrepreneurial integration starts from social embeddedness, interconnecting and interacting between reverse entrepreneur(s) and the host community to understand local challenges and share a new vision for sustainable livelihoods. Secondly, entrepreneurial integration is essentially an innovation platform to develop or enhance social capital (both bonding and bridging) for mobilising and effective use of critical resources. Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) is a very promising recent concept for the design of controllers to control systems with uncertainties. Based on an extended state observer, this control structure allows both external disturbances and modeling uncertainties to be actively rejected. The use of the active rejection control of disturbances is gaining more and more interest among the system control community. This is mainly due to its easy design, undemanding implementation and robustness. In this paper, three solutions using the ARDC structure to control fractional-order system are discussed. Two methods taken from the literature are briefly introduced, namely, the fractional-order dynamics rejection scheme (FODRS) and the fractional linear active disturbance rejection control (FLADRC). The basic ideas and technical formulations of these two are presented. A third method, based on the robustness performance introduced by fractional-order controllers, is also proposed in this paper. The proposed design method of the set-point tracking controller is based on the Bode's ideal transfer function (Bode's ITF). This will improve the robustness of the control scheme. In this paper, the combination of an art-based, participatory intervention (#soundslikesustainability; 2022) and an online conversation (#iSustain, public facebook group, 2020-2022) are presented as examples for communication about and for sustainability (Weder, 2021a) and possible way to promote the SDGs in a local area (here: in a metropolitan region in Australia). These two examples were theoretically conceptualized as "conversational spaces" (offline & online) and, retrospectively, explored and analyzed as case studies with a mixedmethod content analysis (thematic & frame analysis). The findings of these case studies show how particularly students and staff in a higher education setting started to collaboratively generate an understanding of sustainability and sustainable behavior by negotiation, by sharing their own examples, perspectives and challenges. Furthermore, the students started to take responsibility, advocacy and authorship for transformation and creating their own sustainability stories for sustainable development. Beyond these insights, the presented case studies show how conversational problematization and sensemaking in online and offline conversational spaces around sustainability can be initiated by creating innovative and sometimes unsettling moments of reflection. The paper contributes to the emerging area of sustainability communication, works with a critical environmental communication pedagogical approach (following Weder & Milstein, 2021) and offers innovative ideas for local engagement and community building where transformation and a bottom-up cultivation of sustainability can be realized - especially in a context of missed opportunities, a lack of political strategies and dominant economic interest in sustainability issues, like Australia. Sexuality education has become the cornerstone to curbing risky adolescent behaviour as a means to decrease the spread of unsafe sexual practices and prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS. While the implementation thereof has shown effectiveness in practice, the desired change at the community level remains a challenge, especially in relation to multicultural norms and disparities with which educators are faced in different school contexts in Southern Africa. This paper raises the question: How do schools mediate sexuality education in Free State provincial schools to accommodate contextual challenges? In order to investigate how schools mediate uniform national- and curriculum-based benchmarks, 10 participants from five schools within the Free State province were purposefully sampled. Data from semi-structured interviews with participants were coded and themed, with this paper specifically reflecting on the theme of school and community boundaries influencing the implementation of sexuality education. Through a First and Second Order Cybernetic perspective, it was found that challenges of gender and race are among the barriers prohibiting positive feedback within school structures, as well as the need to allow communities and parents to become stakeholders in tailoring sexuality education to be relevant to expected national standards as well as contextual and relevant cultural and traditional values. Drawing on literatures on food justice, and geographies of care and the concept of care-full justice, this aim of this paper is to develop the concept of care-full food justice as an analytical framework through which to view the work of community food provisioning initiatives in the meantime. The paper begins by developing the concept of care-full justice, outlining that it is based on three premises: the inter-dependence of care and justice; an understanding of who is taking responsibility for care in the meantime; and an appreciation of the ways in which the five dispositions of an ethics of care might individually or collectively facilitate responses to injustice. Secondly, the paper provides an overview of the research project informing the paper, which documents community food provisioning initiatives in Sydney. Thirdly, drawing on the example of Addison Road Community Centre Organisation Food Pantry, the paper applies a care-full food justice approach to generate insights into how the values of attentiveness, responsibility, competence, responsiveness and caring with flow through responses to injustice enacted by the organisation. The paper emphasises that a care-full food justice approach enables us to attend to the calls for caring justice and just care, to equally value these formative ethics that might guide our analysis and engagement with organisations responding to injustice in the meantime.
