This randomized controlled study focused on mothers of children with disabilities to determine the effect of a training program on family stress and life satisfaction. The sample consisted of 52 mothers of children with disabilities (intervention group = 26 and control group = 26). The intervention group participated in a five-session training program on coping mechanisms and life satisfaction. Data were collected using the Questionnaire On Resource And Stress (QRS-FT) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). After the intervention, the mean life satisfaction scores of the intervention group participants increased (p < 0.05), while their mean total score of family stress decreased (p > 0.05). In the control group, the mean life satisfaction scores decreased (p > 0.05), while the mean total score of family stress increased (p < 0.05). The intervention helped mothers of children with disabilities experience more satisfaction with life and less family stress. Authorities should consider the outcomes of educational intervention studies and formulate training programs for mothers of children with disabilities. Nurses can use interactive educational programs as nursing interventions to help mothers of children with disabilities experience less family stress and more life satisfaction. • Mothers with disabled children have a high care burden and high family stress. • The care burden and family stress of mothers with disabled children negatively affect their life satisfaction. • The education given to mothers of disabled children is effective in reducing their family stress and increasing their life satisfaction. • It is important that the training given to mothers of disabled children is continuous and regular. Background. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the serum neurotensin (NT) levels and their relationships with self-reported anxiety, emotion regulation skills and impulsivity in healthy and obese adolescents. Methods. Adolescents who gained weight between 12-17 years of age and who were above the 95th percentile (p) for body mass index (BMI)>95p were compared with age- and gender-matched healthy adolescents with a BMI of 3-85 p. Anthropometric measurements were performed, and serum NT levels were analyzed with ELISA method in all participants. Barrat Impulsivity Scale-11 (BIS-11), Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) were used for evaluating self-reported impulsivity, anxiety and emotion regulation. MANOVA with follow-up univariate ANOVAs (Bonferroni corrected) were used for group comparisons. P was set at 0.05 (two-tailed). Results. Sixty-five obese and 65 healthy adolescents were included in the study. In the obese group, NT levels were significantly elevated compared to the control group. Self-reported emotion-regulation difficulties, anxiety and impulsivity were significantly elevated among obese adolescents. Serum NT levels among the obese group were positively correlated with emotion dysregulation and impulsivity scores. Conclusions. In this study, we found emotional dysregulation, anxiety, impulsivity, and serum NT levels were significantly elevated among obese adolescents compared to controls. NT levels in the obese group correlated with impulsivity and emotion dysregulation. Obesity is often the result of a high-calorie and unbalanced diet for a long time and can sometimes be associated with hyperphagia and eating disorders. Neurotensin (NT) is an anorexigenic peptide, which is secreted from the central nervous system and intestines, and increases intestinal fat absorption. In the literature, conflicting results regarding serum NT level in obesity and the relation of NT with metabolic parameters were reported. Besides, there is no data regarding the relation of NT with eating disorders or food preference in obese individuals. We aimed to evaluate the relation of serum NT level with metabolic parameters, hyperphagia, binge eating disorder (BED) and food preference in obese adolescents. The study included 65 obese adolescents and 65 healthy controls. Anthropometric measurements, biochemical analyzes and body fat analyzes were performed in all cases. Hyperphagia score, presence of BED and three-day food intake records were also evaluated. NT level was significantly higher in obese adolescents than in controls and it was not associated with metabolic parameters, hyperphagia or food preference. In the obese group, NT level was not significantly different according to the presence of BED. Organic diseases account for only 16-30% of early feeding disorders. During the infancy period, mother-child relationship is in the center of feeding and disturbances in this relationship can also cause feeding disorders. Infantile anorexia (IA) usually begins within the first three years of age, but it has most commonly been observed to emerge between 9 and 18 months of age, a time during which babies transition to spoon and self-feeding. It is also worth noting that babies start to gain autonomy during this time frame. The present study discusses the case of an 8-month-old girl diagnosed with IA after ruling out food allergies, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, malrotation, and neurological problems. The patient was diagnosed with IA was treated with the relational regulation of parents and active participation of her father during the treatment process. It is found that mother-child relational disturbances and conflicts decreased dyadic reciprocity and non-appropriate affects in feeding times are associated with IA. Effective treatment strategies for non-organic feeding disorders might be developed by giving importance to maternal mental health and providing paternal involvement in baby caregiving. Enuresis is a common childhood disorder associated with the lack of bladder control that would be expected based on the child's age or developmental stage. Enuresis affects the lives of both children and their parents due to the burden it entails in daily life. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the dimensions of attachment between children with enuresis and their mothers, as well as the relationship with parental attitudes. This study included 70 children were diagnosed with primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE) based on the guidelines of the International Children's Continence Society (ICCS) along with 70 children with not enuresis and any psychiatric disorders. We asked the mothers of all participants to complete the Parental Attitude Research Instrument, and the children to complete The Experiences in Close Relationships Scale Revised – Middle Childhood. Both groups in our study were well balanced in terms of gender, age, and sociodemographic data. Children with enuresis were found to score higher on the anxiety and avoidance dimensions of the attachment scale with statistical significance (p < 0.01). Also, on the scale completed by the mothers of children with enuresis, the subtests indicating overprotective parenting and strict discipline presented significant differences (p < 0.01). Data obtained in our study demonstrate that enuresis can have a negative effect on the mother-child attachment and parental attitudes. The use of harsh language or punishment by the mother in response to the failure of the child to achieve nocturnal dryness may affect the attachment between the mother and the child, and cause the child to experience negative emotions such as shame, anxiety, embarrassment, frustration, and loneliness. We think that it would be useful to evaluate the mother-child attachment and the crisis experienced by the family after each wetting incidence in combination with parental attitudes and behaviors in the treatment of enuresis cases. Epileptic patients present with psychiatric disorders more frequently than the general population and patients with other chronic medical conditions. Psychiatric disorders can co-occur with epilepsy and can be caused by epilepsy. Personality changes, as well as psychosis, and mood or anxiety disorders can occur in association with epilepsy. Anxiety disorders due to epilepsy can manifest as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobias, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. The risk of an anxiety disorder is higher in patients with focal epilepsy, especially those with temporal lobe epilepsy, but an anxiety disorder can also occur in patients with frontal lobe epilepsy or generalized tonic-clonic epilepsy. Herein we present a 41-year-old female patient with comorbid anxiety disorder and epilepsy that improved following initiation of antiepileptic medication. The patient's EEG showed abnormalities, particularly in the frontal lobe. Epileptic activation-associated anxiety disorder presented as phobia of swallowing and the patient exhibited features of generalized anxiety disorder. Following initiation of antiepileptic medication, the seizures stopped and the symptoms of anxiety disappeared in two weeks. The patient was receiving psychotherapy once every 2 weeks. The patient remained asymptomatic during 2-years of follow-up. This case highlights the importance of differential diagnosis of underlying epilepsy in patients with acute severe anxiety and the efficacy of proper medical treatment, which was given in the presented case for the underling pathology of anxiety.
