The electrochemical hydrogenation of organic carrier molecules at room temperature and ambient pressure is possible via proton-coupled electron transfers of even numbers of protons and electrons.

Phthalocyanines (Pc), with or without metal ligands, are still of high research interest, mainly for the application in organic electronics. Because of rather low solubility, Pc-based films are commonly deposited applying various advanced and demanding vacuum techniques, like physical vapor deposition (PVD). In this work, an alternative straightforward approach of NiPc layer formation is proposed in which NH2-side groups of nickel(II) tetraamino-phthalocyanine (AmNiPc) are engaged in the process of electrochemical deposition of (AmNiPc)layeron indium-tin oxide (ITO) substrates. The resulting layer is widely investigated by cyclic voltammetry, atomic force microscopy, UV–vis, and ATR-IR spectroscopies, X-ray diffraction, and photoemission techniques: X-ray and UV-photoelectron spectroscopies. The chemical and electronic structure of (AmNiPc)layeris characterized. It is shown that the electronic properties of the formed (AmNiPc)layer/ITO hybrid correspond to the ones previously reported for PVD-NiPc films.

A convenient and higher yielding synthetic route to N‐alkyl‐bis(thiophene)phenothiazine derivatives is reported and their aggregation, electrochemical properties and polymerization are characterized. The key step in the synthesis of this group of compounds has been the Stille type coupling reaction between the N‐alkyldibromophenothiazine and tin derivatives of thiophene as the best way for preparation of conjugated N‐alkylphenothiazine derivatives. For this group of compounds we also present an electrochemical polymerization effect and widely adopted approach to prepare structurally ordered thin, electroconducting films by Langmuir–Blodgett technique.

By using an electrolytic salt solution of two anionic species differing by their ionic radius or their molecular size, it is possible to accurately control the concentration of anionic doping agent without modification of the electrolyte conductivity. The conducting polymer film is electrosynthesized on the electrode in a solution containing small ions. Once de-doped, the film keeps the memory of the size of the doping anion and can be only re-doped by comparable or smaller anions. After the synthesis, the film is transferred to another electrolyte containing heteropolyanions ensuring the conductivity and a variable concentration of small ions acting as dopants. Measurement of the electroactivity of the polyaniline film is made by linear sweep voltammetry in classical electrochemical conditions.
