Abstract: In this present work, photocatalysts based on a new pyrochlore-type solid solution were prepared using the ceramic method at 1000°C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis shows the existence of a solid solution with pyrochlore structure Bi1.5Sb1.5Zn1–xCuxO7(0 ≤ x≤ 1). Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images exhibited a slight difference in the external morphology of the samples. The UV-diffuse measurement revealed a change in the absorbance from the UV part for the zinc-rich compound to the visible part for the copper-rich compound. The Energy band gap values were between 3.15 and 1.84 eV. The photocatalytic activity of these prepared mixed oxides was studied for the photo-degradation of the dye Orange II (ORII) as an organic pollutant, in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as an oxidising agent, under sunlight irradiation, by varying different parameters such as the catalysts mass, the oxidant volume, the concentration of the pollutant and the pH. The experimental results obtained by UV-visible spectroscopy revealed that the removal efficiency of ORII increased with increasing the irradiation time for all tested photocatalysts. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model gave the best fit, with the highest correlation coefficients (R2= 0.99). The results of this study revealed the potential and various advantages of these new efficient photocatalysts.

Abstract—: For a long time now, cigarette smoking has been recognized as a primary source of toxic chemical exposure for people. Among said toxic chemicals, VOCs are identified as being the highest contributing category to the overall toxicity of cigarette smoke. Thus, in this review an identification of the various VOCs present in cigarette smoke (mainstream, sidestream and environmental tobacco smoke) was first conducted, followed by a survey of the different factors affecting their emission level. Then, a study of the presently used techniques for the abatment of cigarette smoke-derived VOCs was performed. Finally, an assesment of some potentially interesting catalytic systems for the reduction of VOCs emission was carried out.

Algeria hosts seven species of the Columbidae family, including pigeons and doves, the majority of which have been the subject of numerous studies, but none have been conducted on the Stock Dove (Columba oenas). Data on this species are still scarce, and its distribution is limited only to Kabylie in northern Algeria. Species occurrence data were collected from September 2022 to August 2023 using the point count method. However, the species was recently recorded in several new localities (20 stations) in West Algeria, at Sidi Bel Abbès and Tlemcen. All our observations were made in a semi-arid bioclimatic area at an altitude ranging between 750 and 1,216 m. Nesting sites were located on woodland and forest edges, not far from water sources, and feeding sites were located in open, natural, or agricultural environments where cereal seeds, grasses, flower buds, and young green shoots were consumed. It could also cohabit with other species of pigeons and doves.

ABSTRACTOver the past two decades, there has been a growing interest in the role of universities in developing generic skills, in addition to disciplinary ones, to help students adapt to a changing workplace. The need to develop these skills is particularly critical for healthcare students who must face challenges in health systems. This scoping study, following Arksey and O'Malley's ([2005]. Scoping studies: Towards a methodological framework. International Journal of Social Research Methodology, 8(1), 19–32. https://doi.org/10.1080/1364557032000119616) method provides an overview of the scientific literature on generic skills in health studies. The definitions, categorizations, and measurement tools from 43 articles were mapped and summarized and gaps were identified. Definitions and terms were varied but overall, generic skills are considered cross-disciplinary and cross-professional. Nevertheless, the term skill itself was not defined. The lack of consensus on categorization and assessment led us to propose a typology to group all the skills mentioned into four categories: personal, ideas and object-related, interpersonal and community-related skills. One conclusion is that generic skills are valued foremost in relation to labor market demands with an emphasis on skills such as knowledge, communication, and planning over ethical and citizenship skills that are essential for future healthcare professionals. It is imperative to consider generic skills that are necessary to face the complex challenges of today’s world.

Age-related changes in organ function, immune dysregulation, and the effects of senescence explain in large part the high prevalence of infections, including respiratory tract infections in older persons. Poor nutritional status in many older persons increases susceptibility to infection and worsens prognosis. Interestingly, there is an association between the amount of saturated fats in the diet and the rate of community-acquired pneumonia. Polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 LC-PUFAs) including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), have well-known anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antimicrobial effects, which may, in theory, be largely induced by PUFAs-derived lipids such as specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs). In adults, preliminary results of studies show that ω-3 LC-PUFAs supplementation can lead to SPM generation. SPMs have a crucial role in the resolution of inflammation, a factor relevant to survival from infection independent of the pathogen’s virulence. Moreover, the immune system of older adults appears to be more sensitive to ω-3 PUFAs. This review explores the effects of ω-3 LC-PUFAs, and PUFA bioactive lipid-derived SPMs in respiratory tract infections and the possible relevance of these data to infectious disease outcomes in the older population. The hypothesis that PUFAs have beneficial effects via SPM generation will need to be confirmed by animal experiments and patient-derived data.

Spectral pixels are often a mixture of the pure spectra of the materials, called endmembers, due to the low spatial resolution of hyperspectral sensors, double scattering, and intimate mixtures of materials in the scenes. Unmixing estimates the fractional abundances of the endmembers within the pixel. Depending on the prior knowledge of endmembers, linear unmixing can be divided into three main groups: supervised, semi-supervised, and unsupervised (blind) linear unmixing. Advances in image processing and machine learning (ML) substantially affected unmixing. This article provides an overview of advanced and conventional unmixing approaches. In addition, we draw a critical comparison between advanced and conventional techniques from the three categories. We compare the performance of the unmixing techniques on three simulated and one real dataset. The experimental results reveal the advantages of different unmixing categories for different unmixing scenarios. Moreover, we provide an open-source Python-based package available at https://github.com/BehnoodRasti/HySUPP to reproduce the results.

This research explored the crystal structure, mechanical and elastic, electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of spinel compoundsATi2S4(A=Ca, Sr and Ba). The ferromagnetic phase of the compounds was found to be stable, and FP-LAPW method within density functional theory (DFT) was used to calculate and compare the lattice constant a, bulk modulus B0, and its pressure derivative B'. The exchange-correlation potential was also treated with both the GGA and TB-mBJ potential approximation. The results of the study showed that the examined spinels exhibit half-metallic behavior, which makes them a potential material for use in spintronic and optoelectronic devices.

Theoretical research was conducted on the energy levels of electrons and positrons in zinc-blend TlBr and TlCl using the first-principle full potential linearized augmented plane wave method based on the gradient generalized approximation GGA. The study involved the calculation of electron and positron band structures which provided predictive data on several properties such as positron mobility, positron affinity, diffusion constants, effective masses, and positronium work function.

This paper presents VCMalloc, a custom memory allocator based on a new dynamic memory management approach that keeps data allocated in a contiguous form in memory. It can preserve the virtual contiguity of data even after performing different memory operations like “Reallocation” and “Free” without consuming much system resources. A novel control plane that we call a “Memory Management System” is introduced with a set of algorithms for the physical-virtual memory mappings, assuring fast, efficient, and safe tracking of data and user pointers. The proposed allocator prioritizes virtual contiguity while it keeps the physical memory completely up to the operating system to manage. It was tested and compared with the current implementation of Malloc as well as a state-of-the-art memory allocator MIMalloc in the recent versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. For the allocator itself, a considerable performance increase has been achieved in basic operations of up to 28% increase in allocation speed and 26% in reallocation speed. The data structures allocated by VCMalloc have shown remarkable performance increases of up to 31% faster for matrix multiplication. Furthermore, VCMalloc has also demonstrated its superiority in real-world SPEC CPU 2017 benchmark applications.

L’apoplexie pituitaire (AP) est une complication relativement rare des adénomes hypophysaires (AH), survenant sous forme de nécrose ou d’hémorragie au sein de la tumeur. L’objectif de cette étude était de déterminer les facteurs prédictifs de survenue d’apoplexie pituitaire chez les patients présentant une AH.

Dans la polyarthrite rhumatoïde (PR), les corticoïdes sont souvent utilisés comme traitement d’appoint initial ou pour gérer les poussées polyarticulaires.

Despite the large numbers of digital women entrepreneurs around the world, the role of social media in helping them meeting the challenge of entrepreneurship is still unclear. Through semi-structured interviews, we explored the role social media plays in the businesses of eight Tunisian digital women entrepreneurs. As a part of the Middle East and North Africa region, Tunisia was an interesting context of study characterised by an interesting presence of women in all fields, especially in entrepreneurship. And yet the number of studies carried out in this context on this effect remains limited despite the high adoption rates of social media platforms. Going from the theoretical approach to data analysis, the findings show that social media helped women entrepreneurs meeting the challenge of entrepreneurship and impacted their professional lives positively.

Adult tumors diagnosed as cerebellar glioblastoma (cGBM) are rare and their optimal classification remains to be determined. The aim of this study was to identify subgroups of cGBM based on targeted molecular analysis. cGBM diagnosed between 2003 and 2017 were identified from the French Brain Tumor Database and reviewed according to the WHO 2021 classification. The following molecular alterations were studied: IDH1/2, H3F3A, FGFR1, BRAF, TERTpromoter mutations, EGFRamplification, MGMTpromoter methylation, and alternative lengthening of telomere status. DNA methylation profile was assessed in a subset of cases. Eighty-three cGBM were included and could be classified into 6 mutually exclusive subgroups associated with median age at diagnosis (MA) and prognosis: TERT-mutant and/or EGFR-amplified tumors (n=22, 26.5%, MA=62 y, median overall survival [OS]=4 mo), H3K27M-mutant tumors (n=15, 18.1%, MA=48 y, median OS=8 mo), mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) pathway–activated tumors (FGFR1, BRAFmutation, or occurring in neurofibromatosis type I patients, n=15, 18.1%, MA=48 y, median OS=57 mo), radiation-associated tumors (n=5, 6%, MA=47 y, median OS=5 mo), IDH-mutant tumors (n=1), and unclassified tumors (n=25, 30.1%, MA=63 y, median OS=17 mo). Most MAPK pathway–activated tumors corresponded to high-grade astrocytomas with piloid features based on DNA methylation profiling. In multivariate analysis, MAPK pathway–activating alterations, ATRX loss of expression, and alternative lengthening of telomere positivity were independently associated with a better outcome and TERT/EGFRalterations with a worse outcome. cGBM display an important intertumoral heterogeneity. Targeted molecular analysis enables to classify the majority of tumors diagnosed as cGBM into mutually exclusive and clinically relevant subgroups. The presence of MAPK pathway alterations is associated with a much better prognosis.

Biological control of fungal pathogens by antagonistic yeasts is increasingly becoming a valid strategy for a sustainable crop production and bioformulates are available on the market in some countries. However, in tropical and subtropical areas little research has focused on selection and development of local biocontrol yeasts adapted to such environments. To this aim, several yeasts were collected from the carposphere of different fruits in various locations in Tunisia. Representative isolates, selected for their fruit source and morphological characteristics, were identified by analysing their ITS regions and assayed for their biocontrol activity against the postharvest pathogen Penicillium expansumon stored apples, in comparison with three Italian yeast isolates already studied in depth as biocontrol agents. The selected yeasts were further characterized considering some important phenotypic features such as tolerance to abiotic stresses (oxidative, osmotic and UV-light stress), growth at different temperatures, compatibility with common agrochemicals and capacity to produce biofilm. Among the new investigated yeasts, seven isolates displayed a high biocontrol protection of apples from P. expansum(from 50 to 96% rot reduction). The most effective isolates were Cystobasidium minutumL3aid and Rhodotorulasp. Or1, reducing Penicillium rot of apples by 96% and 88%, respectively. These isolates and others, however, with good biocontrol activity, also showed remarkable resistance to environmental stresses and compatibility with common agrochemicals. Therefore, the selected isolates are worthy of further studies aimed at setting up new formulates to be used in biological or integrated control of fungal diseases of fruit and vegetables.

Évaluation des perturbations du profil lipidique au cours de la polyarthrite rhumatoïde (PR) féminine.

La rétinopathie diabétique (RD) est la première cause de cécité avant l’âge de 50 ans. Récemment, de nouveaux marqueurs prédictifs de sa survenue ont été incriminés dont les vitamines B12 et B9. Notre objectif était d’évaluer l’association entre le déficit en ces vitamines et la RD chez les diabétiques de type 2.

Évaluer la fertilité des patientes suivies pour une polyarthrite rhumatoïde (PR) et sa relation avec l’activité de la maladie.

Les antithyroïdiens de synthèse et le Methimazole en particulier constitue le traitement de première intention de l’hyperthyroidie dans la maladie de Basedow(MB). La réponse à ce traitement reste toujours variable. Notre objectif était d’évaluer cette réponse et les facteurs qui lui sont associés.

Les adénomes hypophysaires sont des tumeurs bénignes de la glande pituitaire. Leur pronostic est généralement bon. L’objectif de cette étude est de décrire les caractéristiques clinicobiologiques et évolutifs des macroadénomes hypophysaires non secrétants.

Le craniopharyngiome est une tumeur épithéliale rare d’origine embryonnaire. L’objectif de cette étude est de décrire ses caractéristiques cliniques et évolutives.

Les effets indésirables (EI) de la corticothérapie sont bien connus par le personnel médical. Cependant, on ignore le niveau de connaissance des patients sur ce traitement.

Polycarbonate is a tough, amorphous and transparent high performance thermoplastic polymer. It is used in many fields of application due to its versatile thermophysical, mechanical and optical properties. However, one of its drawbacks is its relatively high thermal conductivity which prevents its application as an insulating material. An appropriate heat treatment can therefore be a useful route to improve the thermal insulating property. The objective of this work is to study the effect of heat treatment; namely the influence of the quenching temperature above and below the glass transition temperature (Tg) on the thermophysical properties of neat polycarbonate (PC). The effect of the quenching temperature above Tg was also studied for neat poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The effect of residual stresses (RS) generated by the free quenching process on the thermophysical properties of neat PC was investigated. The thermal conductivity (k) and thermal diffusivity (a) of neat PC were measured using a periodic measurement method (DICO), (DIffusivity and COnductivity), at room temperature. The DICO method developed in the CERTES laboratory (Center for Studies and Research in Thermal, Environment and Systems of Paris 12 University), allows simultaneous access to the conductivity and thermal diffusivity from which the specific heat (Cp) can then be deduced. This work showed that the quenching from a high temperature above Tg did not affect the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of both PC and PMMA. However, quenching from a temperature below Tg (130 ° C) caused a decrease of both the thermal. In fact the thermal conductivity of PC annealed at 130 ° C which is 0.22 W. m-1 .K-1 decreased to 0.06 W. m-1 .K-1 and 0.14 W. m-1 .K-1 after quenching at 0° C and 40 ° C respectively. This means that quenching would therefore improve the insulating capacity of PC compared to the material which has undergone only annealing. Contrary to the thermal conductivity, the values of the specific heat capacity in this temperature range ( 0° C – 40° C) significantly increased as a result of quenching. They increase from 1118 J. kg-1. K-1 for the annealed sample to 1290 J. kg-1. K-1 for PC quenched at 0° C and increased to 2221 J. kg-1. K-1 for PC quenched at 40 ° C which corresponds to an increase by 98 %. It was also found that the values of thermal conductivity and specific heat were in good agreement with those reported in the literature for neat PC samples quenched below Tg.

Metabolic syndrome is a pathological entity associated with a high risk of cardiovascular disease. Data regarding the frequency of this syndrome, lipid profile, and atherogenic index of plasma in patients with radiographic axial spondyloarthritis are scarce.

AbstractExternal bonding of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) plates has emerged as a method for strengthening reinforced concrete structures. The creep of the concrete, adhesive and FRP can accelerate debonding along with the interface. In this paper, an original creep model is developed to study the long-term behaviour of combined cohesive-bridging model of an FRP–concrete interface, debonding under axial loading. A combined cohesive-bridging zone model is presented to simulate long-term debonding between the FRP plate and concrete beam interface. Four zones are distinguished and thoroughly analysed: elastic, softening, bridging and debonding. An original behaviour law is proposed, combining the creep modelling of the various materials. A new analytical model of the long-term shear stress distribution along the interface is developed. For application data, the bond-slip parameters for a real-time combined cohesive-bridging model along the FRP–concrete interface are determined by calibration based on the experimental and analytical data in the pre-existing literature. The simulation of the long-term bond-slip law of the FRP–concrete interface is based on the constant fracture energy Gfand shearing rigidity of the interface. The parametric study suggests that to extend the durability of an FRP–concrete interface, loads should be in the elastic stage, and thick, highly rigid FRP plates should be used.

The emergency department (ED) faces great challenges during the corona pandemic, which has greatly affected the course of work, as the medical staff works to maintain the quality of service and more guarantee the health of patients and staff. With the rapid spread of the coronavirus, ED has become the focus of attention of many researchers, where most of them focused on reducing waiting time and the duration of the patient's length of stay (LOS) through the restructuring of ED. In this study, the authors propose a simulation model using the hierarchical coloured-petri nets (CP-Nets). Several improvement scenarios have been suggested in order to arrive at the optimal solution. Scenarios were compared and solutions were presented to decision makers. This study was conducted at the Hassani Abdelkader Hospital in Sidi Bel Abbes. The authors obtained a model that could be generalized to other hospitals.

The support of novice entrepreneurs is for the improvement of the performance of newly created companies. However, many companies, despite their support, go bankrupt. Faced with the scarcity of previous studies on this subject, focusing on the issue of the performance of newly created companies from the perspective of support is central. Hence, the purpose of this article is to study the nature of the effect of the influence of psychological determinants of the success of the entrepreneur-coach relationship on the performance of newly created companies. The empirical field is made up of novice Tunisian entrepreneurs. The authors followed a quantitative methodology by collecting data from 350 novice entrepreneurs. The results of the study show that trust, the existence of the psychological contract, and the entrepreneur's commitment determine the performance of newly created businesses via the success of the entrepreneur-coach relationship.

In cardiovascular disorders, the study of thrombocytes, commonly known as platelets, is highly important since they are involved in blood clotting, essential in hemostasis, and they can in pathological situations affect the blood circulation. In this paper, single deposited platelets are measured using interferometric digital holographic microscopy. We have shown that the average optical height of platelets is significantly lower in healthy volunteers than in dialyzed patients, meaning a better spreading. It demonstrates the great interest for assessing this parameter in any patients, and therefore the high potential of analyzing single spread platelets using digital holographic microscopy in fundamental research as well as a diagnostic tool in routine laboratories, for usual blood tests.

A novel 8-aminoquinoline isomer [Cu(H2O)2(C9H8N2)2]Cl2complex (1), has been synthesized by solvothermal method. The single-crystal X-ray study, Hirshfeld surface analysis and computational calculation were discussed. Hydrogen bonding network within the complex enables the formation of a 3D network supported by aromatic stacking interactions of quinoline rings in face-to-face and edge-to-face fashions. The analysis of Hirshfeld surfaces facilitated a comprehension of intermolecular interactions in the structure. The reactivity descriptors for (1)such as EHOMOand ELUMOenergies, density of state (DOS), ionization potential (IP), electron affinity (EA), Mulliken electronegativity (χ) and the absolute hardness (η) were calculated by PBE functional method with DNP basis set. The possible sites for nucleophilic and electrophilic attacks on (1)were analyzed through Fukui functions. The calculated results indicate that this complex could be used as a novel antibacterial agent.

Temperature change, global warming, and the ever-changing climate have made life extremely difficult for plants. Our research analyzed the effects of chaste plant extract on salt-stressed tomatoes. Three concentrations of chaste plant extract (CPE) were applied (0.25%, 0.5%, and 1%). The obtained results indicated that CPE-treated plants showed a higher ability to tolerate salt stress (75 mM) by a significant increase in plant growth and photosynthetic pigment content (p≤ 0.05). Antioxidant enzyme activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione reductase (GR) are also crucial in the case of treatments. Carbon–nitrogen enzymes such as phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC), malate dehydrogenase (NAD-MDH), and glutamine synthase have changed (GS). Our results suggest that the application of chaste plant extract could be used as a promising plant growth biostimulant for treating tomato plants under salinity stress.

The main purpose of the present paper is to investigate the problem of the nonparametric estimation of the expectile regression in which the response variable is scalar while the covariate is a random function. More precisely, an estimator is constructed by using the kNearest Neighbor procedures (kNN). The main contribution of this study is the establishment of the Uniform consistency in Number of Neighbors (UNN) of the constructed estimator. The usefulness of our result for the smoothing parameter automatic selection is discussed. Short simulation results show that the finite sample performance of the proposed estimator is satisfactory in moderate sample sizes. We finally examine the implementation of this model in practice with a real data in financial risk analysis.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) generated from glycation might cause diseases such as diabetes and breast cancer. Antioxidants have an important role in protecting humans against infections and degenerative diseases due to their ability to neutralize AGEs. Olea europaeavar. oleaster(Oeo) is an ancient plant widespread in the Mediterranean basin which is traditionally used as a source of antioxidants. The present research deals with phytochemical screening and the antioxidant properties of both aqueous and methanolic extracts of the Oeofruit. Additionally, antidiabetic potential (α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities) and inhibitory potential on AGEs formation have been investigated using the methanolic extract of the Oeo(ME-Oeo) fruit. The cytotoxic effect against two human breast cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-468 and MCF-7) was also investigated. Both aqueous and methanolic extracts showed a high phenolic and flavonoid content: by using HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS up to fifteen major compounds were positively identified. The methanolic extract showed better antioxidant activity than aqueous extract in all tests. Also, the ME-Oeofruit showed high inhibitory effects on the production of Amadori products and AGEs from albumin in the presence of fructose and a high significant inhibitory effect against α-amylase (IC50 = 2.367 mg/mL) and α-glucosidase (IC50 = 1.272 mg/mL), respectively. The ME-Oeofruit showed moderate cytotoxic activity against MDA-MB-468 cell line (IC50= 35.16 µg/mL), and MCF-7 cell line (IC50= 46.75 µg/mL). These results suggest the possibility of using ME-Oeofruit as a source of natural bioactive compounds for the prevention of glycation-associated complications in diabetes and in cytotoxicity treatment.

The aim of the study was to find alternative materials that could contribute to the protection of the environment by the elimination of organic pollutant (tryptophan). The adsorbent materials (activated carbon) were prepared from pea and bean peels which were chemically treated with phosphoric acid and then treated physically by calcination. This synthesized material was used as an adsorbent for the purification of different waters charged with organic tryptophan compound. Agricultural residues were characterized by electronic microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The physical characterization was determined by adsorption of nitrogen gas at 77 K (BET). The impact of some process parameters was examined and analyzed, namely the initial concentration of pollutant, the dose of activated carbon and the dilution medium. The obtained results showed a low yield between 10% and 33% in the three types of water for coagulation–flocculation with aluminum sulfate alone. However, better removal efficiency was obtained by combination of aluminum sulfate and activated carbon between 70% to 90%, and elimination efficiency between 75% to 80% in combination with aluminum sulfate and activated carbon. Specific areas of pea and bean peels respectively 735.27, 760.56 m2/g, and the diameter of its pores respectively 58.42 and 52.88, make these adsorbent materials efficient, economical and effective for the removal of organic matter.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune and inflammatory disease affecting the central nervous system (CNS). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides sufficient imaging contrast to visualize and detect MS lesions, particularly those in the white matter (WM). A robust and precise segmentation of WM lesions from MRI provide essential information about the disease status and evolution. The proposed FPSOPCM segmentation algorithm included an initial segmentation step using fuzzy particle swarm optimization (FPSO). After extraction of WM, atypical data (outliers) is eliminated using possibilistic C-means (PCM) algorithm, and finally, a Mamdani-type fuzzy model was applied to identify MS. The objective of the work presented in this paper is to obtain an improved accuracy in segmentation of MR images for MS detection.

An examination was conducted on a newly developed compound named N1-(coumarin-7-yl) amidrazone (Azo-Cum) to assess its impact on the corrosion of mild steel (MS) in a 1 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution. Various analytical techniques, including weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), UV–visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and AFM, were employed to evaluate the inhibitory efficiency of the compound. The findings indicated that inhibition efficiency rose with higher concentrations but decreased with elevated temperatures. According to weight loss analysis, the optimal concentration of the new eco-friendly inhibitor (5 ×10−4M) exhibited a maximum efficiency of 89.26%. Polarization studies disclosed that Azo-Cum acted as a mixed-type inhibitor with a cathodic predominance. The adsorption of the inhibitor on the MS surface followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Additionally, the study explored the synergistic effect of Azo-Cum in combination with KI on MS corrosion in a 1 M HCl (Blank) solution using potentiodynamic polarization measurements. The results identified concentration ranges that demonstrated antagonistic inhibition. Density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamic simulation (MD) calculations were performed to investigate the correlation between molecular and chemical reactivity.

Introduction: This work provides statistical analyses of bibliographic data on pharmacologically evaluated flavonoids from different plant families. By opposition to structural elucidations benefitting from full data aspects, pharmacological evaluations are concerned with partial investigations resulting in sparse information. Methods: The limited data availability was overcome by extensive consideration of several small sets of pharmacologically evaluated flavonoids in several plant taxa, alternatively to the traditional intensive analysis of big dataset of a given metabolic family in a given plant taxon. Statistical analyses were carried out using correspondence analysis, cluster analysis, box plots and fisher exact test to highlight structure-structure, structure-plant and structure-activity trends. Results: Different aglycone types showed opposite trends between hydroxylation (flavonols, anthocyanidins, flavanols), and methoxylation (isoflavones, isoflavanes, neoflavones). Moreover, different carbons showed differential substitution levels in different aglycones: C3 in flavonols, C6, C8 in flavones, flavonols, C2’ in flavanones, C6’ in isoflavanes. Plant families were well differentiated by different relative occurrences of aglycones: flavones in Lamiaceae, flavanones in Rutaceae, neoflavones in Rubiaceae, flavonols in Asteraceae, isoflavones in Fabaceae. Relatively more hydroxylated flavonoids occurred in Asteraceae, Lamiaceae and Fabaceae vs. more methoxylated ones in Rutaceae and Rubiaceae. Concerning structure-activity trends, flavanols and isoflavones were relatively more concerned with anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory activities, respectively, vs. balanced distribution of flavones. Anti-inflammatory activity showed significant association with substitution position of same chemical groups (OH, OCH3), whereas anti-diabetic activity was revealed to be mainly influenced by the type of chemical groups (positive effect of OH and glycosyls). Conclusion: These results call for regular updates and further investigations.

This work presents the chemical modification of Spanish broom flour (SBF), and the study of SBF loading and surface treatment on the performances of polypropylene (PP) biocomposites. In order to enhance the interfacial interactions between the PP matrix and the SBF, two types of chemical treatments were used: 2 wt% of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) for different times (8, 24 and 48 h) and 5 wt% of vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS), respectively. Different techniques for characterization such as the melting flow index (MFI), X-ray diffraction, transient plane source (TPS) and water absorption were used. The experiment results showed a decrease of the MFI with increasing of modified SBF content, independently of the type of the chemical treatment. Moreover, this decrease became significant in the biocomposites containing SBF-VTMS. The X-ray patterns showed that surface treatment of SBF could improve their crystallinity and crystallite sizes. The TPS measurements illustrates that the thermal conductivity of the biocomposites decreases with 10 wt% of modified SBF loading. Higher content than 20 wt% of SBF, improved the thermal conductivity of the biocomposites. Meanwhile, the lowest values were found when the VTMS is used. Besides, it was accompanied by a decrease in absorptivity due to the better interfacial adhesion SBF-PP.
