Nursing has always been a cost for the institutions within which nurses work. This fact has influenced almost everything that affects how nurses are utilized and valued. As a cost, nurses are closely managed on the margin, always constrained by the resource machinations of organizations and systems with little determination or enumeration of the contributions nurses make to the service and financial value represented by algorithms and metrics that enumerate and demonstrate nurse's impact and contribution to service and financial value. This article further pushes the boundaries of this circumstance, challenging nurse and health leaders to reconceptualize nursing contribution and recalibrate the determination and calculation of nursing value as a sustainable baseline for nursing leadership for the future. Background: Norwegian public health nursing education is a postgraduate education in health-promoting and preventive community nursing with a focus on children, young people (0-20 years) and their families. It has its theoretical foundations in public health and nursing. Research from 2021 showed a clear public health focus, while the nursing foundation was less visible. Objectives: To explore the nursing content and abstraction levels in the reading lists from institutions that educate public health nurses in Norway. Method: Using an exploratory and descriptive design, a thematic content analysis of the curriculum literature was conducted with a focus on nursing content and abstraction levels. The results showed that the majority of nursing texts were related to practice. Very few texts were ethical/philosophical texts with a higher level of abstraction. Conclusion: There is a need for qualitative and quantitative studies that can shed light on the rationale behind the choice of curriculum content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Groups within the healthcare organisations are widespread subjects of research nowadays. Nevertheless, informal groups are rarely examined in healthcare. This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study aimed to determine the formation of informal groups and its dimensions in Turkey. A survey design was adopted and sample size was 208. The questionnaire was validated using exploratory factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The study unveiled that the ownership of hospitals are prominent determinants of informal groups. Demographic, social and environmentally proximity are the main factors for public employees to take part in an informal group while intellectual life and closeness are the main factors for private sector employees. The study suggests that managers should assume the most part of responsibility to determine employee's abilities, preferences and social features to cooperate with informal groups. Funded in part by AMGEN. The Family Heart Foundation (FHF) developed a machine learning model (MLM), FIND-FH, to flag undiagnosed individuals at high risk for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). The model utilizes structured electronic health record (EHR) data. Past implementation of FIND-FH in a large health system identified 2167 high risk patients appropriate for outreach; 153 (7%) were clinically assessed, 46 (30%) diagnosed with FH. FHF was not involved in developing the approach to patient outreach or patient facing materials in this initial deployment. To characterize interim progress and performance metrics regarding screening, outreach, and diagnosis of patients identified by FIND-FH at 5 health systems participating in FHF led Collaborative Learning Network (CLN). The FHF CLN team works with CLN members using implementation and quality science tools including expert interviews, patient journey mapping, current state process mapping and rapid cycle tests of change. Patient facing materials are jointly developed by FHF in conjunction with FH patients and CLN members. Performance metrics include: #Identified as High Risk of FH; #Appropriate for Outreach/Assessment; #Completed Assessment; #New Diagnosis Definite/Probable/Possible FH; #Needing Other CV Risk Reduction Intervention(s). Currently ∼1.85M EHRs have been screened by FIND-FH, identifying 3,720 at high FH risk. To date, chart reviews completed on 1278 found 628/1278 (49%) unlikely to have FH. The remaining 650/1278 (51%) were deemed appropriate for outreach/assessment. Of 91/650 (14%) patients assessed thus far, 71/91 (78%) were diagnosed as definite/probable/possible FH. Multiple patients not diagnosed with FH, had conditions requiring intervention to lower cardiovascular risk. Patient facing letters and resources were found to be acceptable to individuals diagnosed with FH. Deployment of FIND-FH through a CLN provides proof-of-concept of the ability of an implementation science framework to improve the diagnosis and care for patients with FH. Preliminary performance metrics are promising, yet difficult to directly compare to prior efforts. Health systems used targeted chart review to avoid outreach and assessment of patients "not likely to have FH." Patient facing materials developed in conjunction with FH patients and made available to all CLN members prevented duplication of efforts at individual health systems. Insights gained from the CLN are informing the development of more efficient, effective, scalable and sustainable care delivery systems for "FIND"ing individuals living with FH. Background: Evidence for analgesic effects of parent-led pain management strategies during painful procedures in newborn infants exists; however, such strategies are inconsistently used in practice. A publicly available parent-targeted video demonstrates breastfeeding, skin-to-skin care, and sucrose during painful procedures. Australian parents' use and knowledge of this video and these strategies was unknown. Purpose: To determine parents' use of pain management strategies, and perceived acceptability and usefulness of the parent-targeted video. Methods: A cross-sectional, online, anonymous survey with embedded video. Participants were recruited via social media channels of the Miracle Babies Foundation, an Australian parent support network. Target participants were parents or family members of infants currently or previously hospitalized in neonatal special and/or intensive care nurseries, or high dependency units. Results: A total of 162 of 189 respondents provided sufficient data for analysis; all identified as mothers. Only 6 (4%) had previously seen the video; however, nearly all rated it as potentially useful and helpful (n = 124, 82%). Although most reported that sucrose had been used (n = 112, 84%), fewer reported having used skin-to-skin care (n = 50, 37%), or breastfeeding (n = 33, 25%). Most intended to advocate for skin-to-skin care (n = 108, 88%) or breastfeeding (n = 100, 81%) in future procedures. Perceived barriers to utilizing strategies included lack of information-sharing and organizational practices that excluded parent involvement. Implications for Practice and Research: The video may be valuable in supporting mothers to advocate for their involvement during painful procedures in preterm and sick hospitalized infants. Further research is recommended to explore coordinated strategies targeting parents and healthcare professionals to overcome barriers to implementing parent-led infant pain management strategies. The article focuses on World Voice Day is celebrated annually on April 16th to raise awareness about the importance of the human voice and to promote good voice health and education. The day's activities include lectures, concerts, educational programs, clinical voice screenings, and media events scheduled to take place on and around April 16th, and are organized by laryngologists, speech-language pathologists, singers, singing teachers, actors, acting teachers, and other voice professionals.

Public health projects carried out by non-government organisations (NGOs) are considered a critical contributor in the provision of health services to rural population in India. But there is clear lack of documented evidence that describes the capacity and competency of the NGO project managers to successfully design and implement a new project. This article presents findings of an exploratory case study using outreach model of family planning service delivery as an example to understand the steps and actions taken by senior managers throughout the project's life cycle and competencies required by them to execute the project. Focus group discussion followed by paper-based survey using sections of Management Competency Assessment Tool was conducted with senior managers of the chosen NGO. The results indicate that the strategies developed by the NGO managers are consistent with the existing literature on project management. However, not all managers have the same level of confidence in demonstrating the competencies of (a) knowledge of healthcare environment; (b) evidence informed decision making; and (c) interpersonal, communication qualities and relationship management. Depression is a major threat to public health in China. Although many social determinants have been recognized as robust predictors of health outcomes, depression is still widely viewed and framed as a personal health issue that the affected individual is primarily responsible for when it comes to causes and solutions. Research shows that individualizing mental health responsibilities is directly related to stigma formation. While cross-cultural theory and prior research suggest the prevalence of contextual and societal attributions in China, the individualization of the Chinese culture in recent decades may alter the pattern of responsibility attributions for depression. How top Chinese media organizations and mental health institutions framed causal and problem-solving responsibilities for depression on Sina Weibo, a popular social networking site, were quantitatively content-analyzed by examining a total of 539 Weibo posts in terms of their featuring of personal and societal causes and solutions for depression. Both media organizations and mental health institutions primarily assigned depression responsibilities to the individual (vs. the society). State-controlled media organizations were more inclined to hold individuals responsible for fixing the problem than market-oriented media organizations. Compared to media organizations, mental health institutions paid less attention to depression causal responsibilities at both individual and societal levels. Findings support a multi-vocal and balanced framing approach that integrates individual- and society-level attributions of causal and problem-solving responsibilities for depression, so as to help alleviate stigmas, identify structural remedies, and enhance efficacy in depression prevention and treatment at individual, community, and population levels. COVID-19's first wave created chaos for new NICU families as they struggled to cope with the challenge of a fragile infant along with a pandemic. Safety was paramount due to a lack of understanding around how the virus transmits, but much has been learned since then. The next wave of the virus needs to have a rethink around family separation. World leader organization European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) provides insight into the challenges with the first wave and suggests ideas around rethinking how families interact with their baby in the subsequent waves. Introduction: Patient group engagement is increasingly used to inform the design, conduct, and dissemination of clinical trials and other medical research activities. However, the priorities of industry sponsors and patient groups differ, and there is currently no framework to help these groups identify mutually beneficial engagement activities. Methods: We conducted 28 qualitative, semi-structured interviews with representatives from research sponsor organizations (n = 14) and patient groups (n = 14) to determine: (1) how representatives define benefits and investments of patient group engagement in medical product development, and (2) to refine a list of 31 predefined patient group engagement activities. Results: Patient group and sponsor representatives described similar benefits: engagement activities can enhance the quality and efficiency of clinical trials by improving patient recruitment and retention, reduce costs, and help trials meet expectations of regulators and payers. All representatives indicated that investments include both dedicated staff time and expertise, and financial resources. Factors to consider when evaluating benefits and investments were also identified as were suggestions for clarifying the list of engagement activities. Discussion: Using these findings, we refined the 31 engagement activities to 24 unique activities across the medical product development lifecycle. We also developed a web-based prioritization tool (https://prioritizationtool.ctti-clinicaltrials.org/) to help clinical research sponsors and patient groups identify high-priority engagement activities. Use of this tool can help sponsors and patient groups identify the engagement activities that they believe will provide the most benefit for the least investment and may lead to more meaningful and mutually beneficial partnerships in medical product development. When the Institute of Medicine released its report, commonly known as the Future of Nursing report, every state was challenged to take on the work of implementing the 8 recommendations. The Texas Team Action Coalition achieved measurable results in many areas; however, sustainability of efforts was challenging due to the volunteer nature of the work. As Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's focus shifted from Advancing Health Through Nursing to Building a Culture of Health for All, the Texas Team sought to realign its work accordingly. This article details initiatives of the Texas Team over the past 10 years and describes current efforts to position itself to champion anticipated recommendations from the 2020-2030 Future of Nursing report from the National Academy of Medicine. Topics include the paradox of the American values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness could not be clearer for the lives of Black Americans, and the history and pain of anti-Black racism while suggesting some initial steps in tearing down and rebuilding the foundation.

The Hungarian national habitus is reconstructed on the basis of studying some persistently recurring structural configurations and behavioural patterns that govern everyday life from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. My main thesis is that while the structural weight of certain institutions and social groups of key importance (first of all towns and urban middle classes) is insignificant in Hungary in the Middle Ages and in the Early Modern period, other social groups (nobility, gentry, peasantry) and social institutions (state, churches) are over-represented. Some pertinent structural homologies between three systemlevel changes in the 20th century (in 1919, 1945, 1990) are also pointed out.
