The article discusses a study which characterizes genetic variation across the matrix metalloproteinase-2 gene and evaluates the associations with breast cancer risk. Of the 6,066 Chinese women, about 39 of them were genotyped under the Shanghai Breast Cancer Study. It discovers that a rare haplotype reduced the risk of breast cancer, while rare allele homozygotes increased the risk of the cancer.
