Hypersexuality has been a debated disorder, which has not been able to secure its place into the classificatory systems. This article was aimed to report a female with hypersexuality in Bangladesh. Mrs X, a 20-year-old married lady, presented with the complaints of irritability, low mood, sleep disturbances for last one month. As per Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders(Fifth Edition) criteria and mental state examination findings, she was labeled as a case of major depressive disorder and borderline personality disorder. Her early childhood was uneventful, and she got married 2 years back after having a love relationship with the person. Immediately after her marriage, she was used to enjoy sex for 5 to 6 hours daily as she used to enjoy 5 to 6 orgasms per day. The couple enjoyed their sex daily, even the in the days of menstruation. For last one year her husband stopped daily intercourses as well as the duration of the intercourses was also decreased below 1 hour. Subsequently, the lady felt disturbances and used to demand sex more time as well as orgasms daily. She used to consume pornography, masturbate, and started extramarital relationship for sexual activity. She enjoys her persistent thoughts, fantasies regarding sex; however, she became frustrated when she was not getting expected duration and expected number of orgasms. She asked her husband to divorce her as he was not being able to have intercourses for 5 to 6 hours daily. This is the first reported case of hypersexuality in a sexually conservative country like Bangladesh which may open the whole hidden problem.

Aim: The topic of pornography use is controversial. It is important to understand how young people use pornography and determine whether pornography use has adverse effects on health and well-being.Methods: A comprehensive systematic literature search was conducted in 4 electronic databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, CINAHL plus, and Cochrane library) with appropriate MeSH terms “sexual health” and “pornography” and Boolean operators “AND” and “OR,” using SPIDER search strategy tools (sample, phenomenon of interest, design, evaluation, and research type). 11 articles were proceeded with systematic review after critical appraisal following PRISMA guidelines.Results: The major findings of the study imply that traditional and unimaginative activities depicted in some pornography and sexualized media are harmful because they impose restricted and circumscribed concepts of sex and sexuality. As a result, sexism, sexual objectification, neoliberal sexual consumerism, and sexual variety are reproduced and reinforced rather than promoted. FPU is linked to better levels of sexual comfort and self-acceptance and reduced levels of anxiety, shame, and guilt over sexual behavior. Pornography consumption has also been linked to increased arousal and orgasm responses, a greater interest in sex, acceptance of various sexual acts, and more sexual experimentation.Conclusion: Watching pornography may be a healthy phenomenon if it is occasional, not impairing the personal and social life; however, it can become pathological if watched excessively and impairs the individual’s functioning.

Sexual relations suffered from a drastic change because of the pandemic of the COVID-19 and its controlling measures. We performed a bibliometric review of articles conducted on sexual behavior through this COVID-19 pandemic. We performed a search in the Scopusdatabase on August 14, 2021. The search was carried out by the mentioned search terms: “sex* act*” OR “Sex* Behav*” AND “COVID-19.” A total of 230 published articles was identified in the Scopus database, out of which 130 research works were funded and 23.91% (n = 55) articles had international collaborations. R Stephenson published the highest number of papers (n = 4) whilst SK Kar had the maximum number of citations (n = 39) and the highest number of citations per article (13). Universidade de São Paulo and the University of California were the most productive organizations whilst the USA outnumbered the other countries. Sexually Transmitted Infections(n = 13) and Elsevier (61) published the highest number of papers as a journal and publisher, respectively. It is the first bibliometric review on studies that assessed impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on human sexual activities during which identified that more than half of the articles were funded which is a promising sign for the researchers from this field and for those who are keen to work in this field.

In recent decades, surge in the usage of pornography is promoting a severe negative impact on health and well-being throughout the world. In recent times, there is a surge in rape cases in India. There may be a relation between pornography addiction and an increase in sexual crime against women. This review aims to document the association between sexual violence and addiction to pornography in India. Six original articles were retrieved from databases for the initial review of the literature, such as PubMed, EMBASE, EBSCOhost, CINAHL plus, and PubMed Central. Out of the six included cross-sectional research, 50% reported primary (sample sizes range from 100 to 600), 33.3% secondary data, and 16.7% study assessed data from Google trend. Only 16.7% of included articles unveiled a significant association between the number of Internet users and increased sexual violence (rapes and or crimes) toward females that revealed an insignificant association when variables were controlled. About 33.3% of studies reported that the male gender was more vulnerable to pornography addiction among medical students than females. Pornography search had no significant association with literacy level. Female population ratio in Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes positively and urbanization and female workforce participation negatively impacted crime against women.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown measures have affected the sexuality and emotional bonding among the couple across the world.Objectives: We aimed to assess the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown on the married people’s emotional bonding and sexual relationships in 3 south Asian counties (Bangladesh, India, and Nepal).Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among Bangladesh, India, and Nepal residents from April 3 to April 15, 2020. The survey was designed in English. The participants were selected through convenience sampling technique, the link of the online questionnaire was shared with the participants. Only participants older than 18 years and above, married, and living with their spouses were included in the study.Results: A total number of 120 respondents were included finally for analysis from the participating countries (India, Nepal, and Bangladesh). The mean age of the participants was 35.42 (±5.73) years; the majority were males under the age of 40 years and had completed postgraduation as their qualification. Among the study participants, more than half (53.8%) of the women reported being sexually active during the lockdown, whereas 41% of the men reported being sexually active. Among the sexually active participants, most women (57.7%) reported that they perceived positive emotional bonding with their partners. Nevertheless, there was no significant difference observed when compared with men. There are variations in responses. However, no significant association was identified.Conclusion: There are a few insights from the study, that is, there was no significant difference found in almost 3 countries in emotional intimacy. There had been a trend that there is improved emotional bonding with their partners, although no significant difference was observed.

Background: Recent studies are coming out assessing the relationship between suicide rates and various ecological variables. However, information on the association between suicide rate and ecological variables in India has been limited. We aimed to measure the association of suicide rate with religion, literacy, gross domestic product, human development index, life expectancy, fertility, urbanization, and unemployment in India.Methods: We extracted 36 states or union territories of India and their suicide rate, the proportion of Hindu and Muslim populations, literacy rate, per capita gross domestic product (GDP), Human Development Index (HDI), life expectancy, fertility rate, urbanization, and unemployment rate. We assessed the association with rate and other ecological variables mentioned.Results: Suicide rates were positively correlated with the percentage of Hindu population in the state (rs = 0.38, p= .022), literacy rate (rs = 0.368, p= .027), and GDP (rs = 0.61, p= .001), whereas they were negatively correlated with fertility (rs = –0.442, p= .039) and unemployment rate (rs = –0.4, p= .015). We did not find any significant association between suicide rate and Muslim populations, HDI, life expectancy, and urbanization.Conclusion: This study’s findings identified several associations between ecological variables and suicide rates. However, based on the nature of the analysis, a cautious interpretation and further investigations are warranted.

Background: Sexual intercourse is one of the important components of well-being, especially in married couples. There is a dearth of baseline research and data regarding the sexual habits of residents in South-East Asia.Objective: We aimed to see the baseline frequency of sexual intercourses among the residents of 3 South Asian countries (Bangladesh, India, and Nepal).Methods: This web-based cross-national, cross-sectional study was done among the residents of Bangladesh, India, and Nepal through Google forms. Married individuals who were living with their spouses were invited to respond to the survey.Results: A total of 120 respondents participated in this survey of which 46.7%, 38.3%, and 15% of respondents were from India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, respectively. The mean of the weekly sexual intercourse was 2.23 (range: 0-8) among the total respondents; 2.70 (range: 0-7) among the Nepalese, 2.32 (range: 0-5) among the Bangladeshis, and 1.82 (range: 0-8) among the Indians. The differences were not statistically significant.Conclusion: This study revealed very baseline and preliminary excerpts of sexual intercourse habit among the residents of 3 South Asian countries. There is a geographical variation in regard to the sexual contacts. Further, large-scale well-designed studies are warranted to explore the behavior.

The history of psychiatry as a discipline in Nepal has been poorly studied. We have attempted to summarise historical landmarks to explore how it began and its evolution over time in relation to contemporary political events. Although Nepal has achieved several milestones, from establishing a psychiatric out-patient department with one psychiatrist in 1961 to having more than 500 psychiatric in-patient beds with 200 psychiatrists by 2020, the pace, commitment and dedication seem to be slower than necessary: the current national mental health policy dates back to 1996 and has not been updated since; there is no Mental Health Act; the number of psychiatric nurses and in-patient psychiatric beds has increased only slowly; and there is a dearth of professional supervision in rehabilitation centres. Thus, despite making significant progress, much more is required, at greater intensity and speed, and with wide collaboration and political commitment in order to improve the mental health of all Nepali citizens, including those living in rural areas and or in deprived conditions.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected almost every part of human life which reveals several peculiar human behaviors. Panic buying is one of the erratic phenomenon that has been observed in many countries of the world during this COVID-19 pandemic. The selling of online sex dolls, lingerie, and sex toys was increased during the COVID-19 lockdown in several countries like Australia, UK, Denmark, Colombia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, France, India, North America, and Ireland. The increase in sex toy market turnover has several implications such as customization of recreational facilities, limitations in alternative sources of pleasure, need to have sex and unfortunately, and unavailability of a partner. We speculate that people may buy sex toys in response to perceived scarcity, perceived short supply, the anticipation of price hike, or to get control over the environment. However, there could be other factors such as an extra time to explore sexuality, and being apart from the partners. There is a need to study the sexual behavior and sex toy use among people in the post-pandemic era and their repercussions on the intimate relationship.

Masturbation is a normal sexual behavior; however, masturbation in childhood is less commonly addressed in research. Here we report a case of childhood masturbation in Bangladesh. A six-year-old girl was presented at a private chamber of a psychiatrist with the complaints of episodic frictions of pubic area with edges of bed, furniture, and other approachable particles for last one and half years. The average duration of episodes was about 5 minutes. After taking detailed history, and performing physical and mental state examination, the girl was labeled as a case of childhood masturbation. Adequate psychoeducation was provided to the mother regarding the disorder as well as its management such as behavior therapy. She was also ensured repeatedly regarding the diagnosis as well as the management so that she can believe and maintain the behavior therapy. However, the mother was found challenging to accept the diagnosis as well as treatment without any medication. This article is expected to raise the issue among clinical practitioners other than psychiatrists who in turn would reduce the sufferings of the patients and anxiety of the caregivers.

Fluoxetine exerts wide ranges of side effects which encompass both common and other uncommon side effects. Here we report a case, who developed coital bleeding after being treated with fluoxetine. A 30-year-old married lady developed coital bleeding after being treated with fluoxetine 20 mg. The blood was fresh; however, the penetrations were not painful, vagina was well lubricated and both partners were psychologically ready. There is no history of bleeding without any effort of penetration. The bleeding stopped after discontinuing fluoxetine and subsequently meticulous search was done to find out other causes which revealed nothing contributory. The holistic impact of this newer class of antidepressants on women during reproductive age is mostly unknown.
