AbstractThe main goal of the present study was to enhance the rhizobacterium potential in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland system planted by Phragmites australisusing biotechnology. The bioinoculation of denitrifier promoting rhizobacteria fluorescent Pseudomonasspp. has been used to confer higher rhizosphere competence by environmentally friendly biological approaches. In order to study the behaviour or the denitrifying potential of the inoculated bacteria ex situand in situ, the models of Chick–Watson and Series-Event were used with modifications. The comparison of kinetic parameters: (k): the denitrifying coefficient (h−1) and the denitrifying rate at the first contact with a determined concentration of nitrate (A) for different bioassays has shown that the application of the bioinoculation increases remarkably the efficiency of the water treatment system for the reduction of nitrates even by an individual bioinoculated bacterium.

AbstractWe propose in this study to explore the impact of the power supply frequency and the spectral radiant flux emitted by a germicidal UV lamp on the bacterial viability and activities. Two types of power supplies are used, a traditional electromagnetic ballast taken as a reference and electronic ballast allowing modulating frequencies. To evaluate energy emitted in the UV bandwidth, a photometric system composed of an integrating cylinder, a monochromator, and a CCD camera is mounted. The bacterial viability and activities were repressed when we used a high-frequency UV lamp. Accordingly, the regulation of traditional UV lamp at a high frequency supply can provide an enhancement of UV disinfection process and guarantee the safety of treated water, without any environmental and sanitary hazards.
