Reducción de eventos cardiovasculares mayores (MACE) a 5 años en pacientes que sufrieron un síndrome coronario agudo (SCA) revascularizado percutáneamente y completaron un programa de rehabilitación cardiaca.

La deshabituación tabáquica supone un reto en prevención secundaria. Los programas de rehabilitación cardiaca (PRC) incrementan los resultados de abstinencia. El objetivo fue valorar si una intervención antitabaco precoz (IAP) mejora la tasa de abstinencia obtenida tras un PRC.

Camerochelys vilanovaiis a Spanish Lower Cretaceous pan-cryptodiran turtle. Although it was defined by several specimens, the fragmentary state of these plates and partial shells only provided poor information about the anatomy and systematics of this taxon. new specimen of C. vilanovai, from the type area and horizon (the Enciso Group, in La Rioja), is presented and analyzed here. It corresponds to a relatively complete and articulated shell. Several characters hitherto unknown for C. vilanovaiare described. In addition, some characters previously considered in the diagnosis of this form are reinterpreted, and the known range of intraspecific variability is expanded. Therefore, the diagnosis of C. vilanovaiis amended. Camerochelys vilanovaiis recognized as a taxon closely related to the European members of Xinjiangchelyidae (i.e. Brodiechelys brodiei, Brodiechelys royoiand Larachelus morla), the new character states recognized here being compared with those present in these taxa. A pesar de haber sido descrita mediante varios ejemplares, la naturaleza fragmentaria de esas placas y caparazones parciales suministró información muy limitada sobre su anatomía y sistemática. Se presenta y analiza aquí un nuevo ejemplar de C. vilanovai, procedente de la misma área fuente y horizonte donde esta forma fue definida (el Grupo Enciso, en La Rioja). Este espécimen corresponde a un caparazón relativamente completo y articulado. El estudio de este nuevo ejemplar permite describir numerosos caracteres hasta ahora no conocidos para C. vilanovai, así como reinterpretar otros previamente considerados en la diagnosis de este taxón, y ampliar el conocimiento sobre la variabilidad intraespecífica. Como consecuencia, se propone aquí una nueva diagnosis para C. vilanovai. Camerochelys vilanovaies reconocido como un taxón cercanamente emparentado con los miembros europeos de Xinjiangchelyidae (Brodiechelys brodiei, Brodiechelys royoiy Larachelus morla), realizándose una detallada comparación entre los nuevos estados reconocidos gracias al estudio del ejemplar aquí analizado y aquellos presentes en esos taxones.

To determine the genetic characteristics of the rabies virus in the Philippines, 59 rabies virus isolates were obtained from domestic rabid dogs and their partial nucleotide sequences of nucleoprotein (N) gene were compared. Based on comparison with reported sequences, phylogenetic analysis revealed that all isolates from the Philippines had close genetic relations and formed two subgroups. The Philippines isolates belonged to a different lineage from other Asian isolates but were closer to them than to terrestrial isolates and laboratory strains. Several specific nucleotide and amino acid substitutions were observed among the Philippines isolates. Our results suggest that rabies viruses in the Philippines might have a characteristic evolution.

We provide a new approach to the Fundamental Theorem of Asset Pricingbased on the relation between the projection problem and equivalent leastsquares problem. More precisely, we use an iterative procedure in order toobtain solutions of a bounded least square problem. Under some conditions,this solution will give either the state price vector or the arbitrageopportunity of the problem under consideration.

Modern proximity labeling techniques have enabled significant advances in understanding biomolecular interactions. However, current tools primarily utilize activation modes that are incompatible with complex biological environments, limiting our ability to interrogate cell- and tissue-level microenvironments in animal models. Here, we report μMap-Red, a proximity labeling platform that uses a red-light-excited SnIVchlorin e6 catalyst to activate a phenyl azide biotin probe. We validate μMap-Red by demonstrating photonically controlled protein labeling in vitrothrough several layers of tissue, and we then apply our platform in celluloto label EGFRmicroenvironments and validate performance with STED microscopy and quantitative proteomics. Finally, to demonstrate labeling in a complex biological sample, we deploy μMap-Red in whole mouse blood to profile erythrocyte cell-surface proteins. This work represents a significant methodological advance toward light-based proximity labeling in complex tissue environments and animal models.

The contribution of free radical-mediated reperfusion injury to the ischemic damage caused by total arterial occlusion has been investigated in a model of transient spinal cord ischemia in the rabbit. Spinal cord ischemia was produced in 20 anaesthetized rabbits by temporary luminal occlusion (20 min) of the abdominal aorta below the renal arteries. Superoxide dismutase (5 mg/kg) (10 animals) was infused before and during reperfusion below aortic occlusion using an infusion pump that infused the enzyme through the contralateral femoral artery. Control (10 animals) received sterile saline with the same procedure. In this later group, 4 animals developed paraplegia, 4 were paretic and only 2 were normal. However, in the treated group, 6 animals were normal while 3 were paretic and only one appeared paralyzed. We conclude that: a) oxygen free radicals generated during reperfusion are involved in producing the ischemic injury, and b) the ischemic spinal cord injury is prevented by superoxide dismutase.

A synthetic tetrasaccharide structurally related to blood groups and selectin ligands inhibited division of astrocytes, gliomas, and neuroblastomas at micromolar concentrations. The compound was cytostatic for primary astrocytes in culture, but cytotoxic for fast proliferating cell lines.

Tissue subjected to a period of ischemia undergoes morphological and functional damage that increases during the reperfusion phase. The aim of the present work was to assess the possible improvement induced by exogenous administration of nitric oxide (NO) on renal injury and inflammatory reaction in an experimental animal model of renal ischemia-reperfusion (I-R).

Abstract: Nigrin b, a lectin isolated from the bark of elderberry (Sambucus nigra L.), has structure and enzymatic activity similar to that of ricin and other type 2 ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs), and yet is much less toxic to cells and animals. In an attempt to explain this difference, we studied (1) the cytotoxicity of both lectins at 18 and 37 �C, and in the presence of substances interfering with intracellular routing, and (2) the binding of nigrin b to, and its uptake and degradation by HeLa cells, in parallel with ricin. As compared with the latter, (1) less nigrin b was bound and more was degraded by cells, with a resulting lower concentration remaining inside the cells, and (2) there is evidence for a different intracellular routing followed by the two lectins. These results may explain at least partly the different cytotoxicity and consequently the lower toxicity to mice of nigrin b compared with ricin.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the indications, results and complications of radiofrequency catheter ablation in small infants with supraventricular tachycardia due to an accessory atrioventricular pathway.MethodsFive infants less than 9 months old underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation of accessory pathways. Ablation was done for medically refractory tachy-arrhythmia associated with aborted sudden death in two patients, left ventricular dysfunction in one, failure of antiarrhythmic drugs in one, and planned cardiac surgery in one. All five patients underwent a single successful procedure. Three left free wall pathways were ablated by transseptal approach, a right posteroseptal pathway was ablated from the inferior vena cava, and a left posteroseptal pathway was approached from the inferior vena cava into the coronary sinus. A deflectable 5F bipolar electrode catheter with a 3 mm tip was used.ResultsA sudden increment in impedance indicative of coagulum formation was observed in two procedures. One patient developed a transient ischaemic complication after ablation of a left lateral accessory pathway by transseptal approach. This patient had mild pericardial effusion after the procedure. Moderate pericardial effusion was also noted in another patient. After a mean follow up of 18·4 months all patients are symptom free without treatment.ConclusionsRadiofrequency catheter ablation can be performed successfully in infants. Temperature monitoring in 5F ablation catheters would be desirable to prevent the development of coagulum. Echocardiography must be performed after the ablation procedure to investigate pericardial effusion.

A case of unusual longevity to the age of 58 years is reported for a female patient with complete transposition of the great arteries. The association with a wide atrial septal defect with intact interventricular septum may have contributed to the long survival without surgery. Factors determining intercirculatory mixing and systemic oxygen saturation may be the high pulmonary flow, the location of the anatomic communication, sufficient hemoglobin concentration to allow an adequate level of systemic resistance and recirculated systemic flow, and the belated development of pulmonary vascular disease.
