The paper deals with the analysis of performed repairs and the current state of drainage and ventilation system of the Plasy convent and their evaluation. The Plasy historic water system is described in detail based on the results of a long-term field and structural survey. At the same time, unsuitable interventions, particular the application of chemical barrier, were analysed. Recommendations for further measures in the framework of the rehabilitation of the whole convent are made.

The paper presents a structural survey of the arch bridge from the 17th century located in Portz Insel near Mikulov. The purpose of the research was to analyze service life and reliability of the bridge structure including long-term functional durability. There were performed probes in order to search for the original frame foundation and defining a shape of particular arches buried in the ground for decades. The probes also helped to check up the structure of the bridge deck in several places. Currently, throughout 2019 and 2020, the bridge will undergo major reconstruction work in the context of the project „Mikulov, Portz Insel – restructuralisation of the historic countryside“.

The unique water systems of the Baroque monasteries are shown and rehabilitation of historic structures are analysed. In historical buildings, it is desirable within the investigation to identify, properly understand and restore the frequently faulty or damaged original ventilation or drainage systems, which ingeniously took advantage of many-year experience of traditional building. The understanding of the original or older solution, its technical parameters and performance is the first step towards restoration and reliability of the buildings.

The paper deals with a structural survey of the historic drainage and ventilation system discovered recently in the Prague Castle area. Based on in-situ inspection the remedial works in the context of historic importance of the area are presented. The experimental testing is used for the assessment of the efficiency of remedial technologies, but also for a deeper investigation of moisture transport phenomena in heterogeneous materials. The data collected for the investigated aspects should allow foresight of the behavior of existing structures providing damage prediction models and help in the design of remedial measures.

The paper deals with damp investigation of the St Giles Church in Milevsko Monastery which is an important example of the Romanesque religious architecture. Non-invasive rehabilitation measure, designed by authors and based on detailed damp investigation and analysis, gives support natural moisture movement in structure and respects outstanding importance of this unique Romanesque monument. Protection of building against water and moisture belongs to the most important measures in ensuring the service life and serviceability of historical buildings.

While the matters of the moisture of external walls of historical buildings it turned out that apart from classical sources of moisture (such as capillary attraction, condensation etc.) there is another source which is often left behind – rainfall humidity which leaks to perimeter walls from the exterior. Whilst the Czech approach of standard assessment works with condensed moisture only, some foreign authors (especially those from Germany) point out a notable influence of rainfall humidity on the moisture regime of the mentioned constructions. Its amount exceeds the amount of rainfall that leaks into the construction due to diffusion by several times. The issue deserves to be examined in more detail, but the use of nanotechnology could help to solve or improve the problem. In some cases it would be possible to apply the suspension with added nanoparticles into the insulated masonry and improve the properties of masonry, which is facing to rainwater

During the detailed moisture survey of the former convent the historical drainage and ventilation systems were found and documented. This paper describes an interesting discovery in the basement of the monastery and presents conceptual design of remediation pointing out, at the same time, the risk factors. Methods using new materials including nanostructures are also mentioned.

The paper deals with the historical and structural survey of house “At the Three Axis” and drainage and ventilation systems discovered in the Prague Castle area. Failures and deterioration processes of these historical structures are described. The important achievements of in-situ inspection and laboratory analysis are presented, interventions and maintenance of systems proposed.

The flood in 2002 affected salinity and microflora of surface layers of the sandstone blocks of the Charles Bridge in Prague. The microbial decomposition of the organic contaminants causes a significant decrease of pH value which resulted in the chemical denitrification and, consequently, also in the microbial denitrification of nitrites and nitrates on the sandstone block surface.

The paper presents the results of an experimental comparison of essential moisture characteristics of two types of sandstone, intended for the outdoor use. In addition to traditional physical properties, dynamics of absorption of both materials in its original condition as well as after the hydrophobization were investigated. The aim of the experiment is to determine the most suitable material variations for the reconstruction.

The paper deals with the influence of climatic factors on selected properties of remedial plaster. The results of experimental measurements of hydrophobicity on samples of plasters after exposure to UV radiation are analyzed.
