Context:Considerable controversy exists over surgical procedures for ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL).Objective:The purpose of the meta-analysis was to compare the clinical outcome of anterior decompression and fusion (ADF) with laminoplasty (LAMP) in treatment of cervical myelopathy due to OPLL.Methods:PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials database were searched to identify potential clinical studies compared ADF with LAMP for cervical myelopathy owing to OPLL. We also manually searched the reference lists of articles and reviews for possible relevant studies. Thirteen studies with 1120 patients were included in our analysis. Subgroup analyses were performed by the canal occupying ratio of OPLL.Results:Overall, the mean preoperative Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score was similar between two groups. Compared with LAMP group, ADF group was higher at the mean postoperative JOA scores and mean recovery rate, reoperation rate, and longer at mean operation time. There was not significantly different in mean blood loss and complication rate between two groups. In subgroup analysis, ADF had a higher mean postoperative JOA score and recovery rate than LAMP in cases of OPLL with occupying ratios ≥ 50%, while those difference were not found in cases of OPLL with occupying ratios < 50%.Conclusion:ADF achieves better neurological improvement compared with LAMP in treatment of cervical myelopathy due to OPLL, especially in cases of OPLL with occupying ratios ≥ 50%. Complication rate is similar between two groups, but ADF can increase the risk of reoperation

This objective of this article is to present a new technique of nanofluids/MQL in high speed milling by using MWCNTs. In the past, studies have shown the MQL process can improve tool life and surface accuracy in high speed cutting. The purpose of using carbon nanotubes is to increase the thermal conductivity of cutting fluid and to reduce the temperature during the cutting and decrease the thermal wear of tool. The proposed study is to investigate the characterization of the MWCNTs/ nanofluids combined with MQL during the high speed milling of AISI 1050 and AISI P21 experimentally. The Taguchi robust design was also used to optimize the parameters of nozzle with respect to tool feed direction, such as spraying distance, angle of ejection, and relative locations for improving the MWCNTs/MQL cutting effect. Experimental results showed the MWCNTs/ nanofluid had the benefits of improving surface roughness and reducing wear of tool in high speed milling. The results were compared to dry cutting, and wet cutting in detail.

The transient effect of electromagnetic interference (EMI) produced by electronic equipments has been extensively studied. However, for the electric vehicles, speed changing also introduces considerable amount of interference. In this paper, we study the EMI influences, which include the interferences caused by the electronic switch and the vehicular engine, on the electric vehicular communications systems. The transmission quality of various standards is investigated, including FlexRay, and Control Area Network (CAN).

A quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) study for predicting the acute toxicity 96h - LC50 values of substituted anilines and phenols to carp is presented in this work. For this, the descriptors were obtained with DFT method at the B3LYP/6-311G** level using the Gaussian 03 software package. Afterwards the obtained parameters were taken as theoretical descriptors to establish a QSAR model for predicting -lgLC50. The model contains two variables, energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital (EHOMO) and energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (ELUMO), which suggest that the main effect on biological toxicity of phenols and anilines is the interaction of electrons between the molecules of organic chemicals. Besides, the model was further validated by variance inflation factors (VIF) and t-test, and show fine stabilities and predictive abilities, which can be used to predict -lgLC50 of these kinds of compounds.

Background and aims:Whole-body vibration (WBV) presents as osteogenic in animal models and young patients, but the effect remains unclear in senior people. The use of alternative tilting during WBV to ameliorate bone mass and bone metabolism, particularly in senior people, has not previously been reported. This study assessed changes in bone mineral density (BMD) and bone metabolism in senior people after six-month treatment of wholebody vibration with alternative tilting (WBVAT). Methods:Fifty-three senior people (11M/42F, >65 yrs, mean age 77) and 15 adults (4M/11F, 50–60 yrs, mean age 53) were enrolled and assigned randomly to WBVAT (senior: n=27; adult: n=7) and control groups (senior: n=26; adult: n=7), respectively. The WBVAT groups were subjected to vertical vibration (0.5–0.8 g, 45–55 Hz) and alternative tilting (2° tilting angle or 8 mm displacement at 0.4 Hz) 20 minutes per day, 3 days a week, for 6 months. BMD in the lumbar spine and femoral neck was measured at 0, 3 and 6 months, respectively, as well as biochemical markers of bone metabolism, including serum calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin and tartrate-resistance acid phosphatase at 0, 1, 3 and 6 months, respectively. Results: After 6-month WBVAT treatment, BMD in the lumbar spine and femoral neck increased significantly by 2.52% and 3.22% for senior people, and 1.63% and 2.05% for adults, respectively. The 6-month WBVAT treatment increased BMD in the senior people, both with and without osteoporosis (OP) and in both men and women, but led to a BMD gain greater in people with OP (p<0.01) and women (p<0.01), respectively. The serum ALP level increased significantly by a net 24.4% in seniors after WBVAT treatment at 3 months; other biochemical markers showed non-significant differences between the WBVAT and control groups. Conclusions: WBVAT treatment may increase BMD in senior people, particularly those with OP and women. Changes in bone metabolism after WBVAT treatment were not observed in most cases.

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the surgical outcomes of anterior decompression and fusion (ADF) with that of posterior laminoplasty (LAMP) for cervical myelopathy caused by ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL).Methods: We retrospectively assessed the medical records of patients who underwent surgery for cervical myelopathy owing to OPLL between 2007 and 2016 at our institution. Fifty patients were included in this study, including 17 patients in ADF group and 33 patients in LAMP group. Surgical outcomes were assessed under the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score. The radiologic and clinical data were compared between two groups.Results: There was no significant difference in age, follow-up time, operation time, blood loss, length of stay, preoperative JOA score, occupying ratio of OPLL, diameter of spinal canal, preoperative and final follow-up C2-C7 Cobb angles, and the change of C2-C7 Cobb angle before and after operation between ADF and LAMP groups. The final follow-up JOA score and the neurological recovery rate were significantly higher in ADF group than in LAMP group, particularly in patients with segmental-type OPLL. Cerebrospinal fluid leakage is a major complication after ADF, C5 paralysis, and axial pain frequently results from LAMP.Conclusion: Compared with LAMP, ADF shows better improvement of neurological function in patients with cervical myelopathy due to OPLL, especially in patients with segmental-type cervical OPLL.
