The efficiency of the modify natural rubber (NR) combination with methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer for pavement surface was studied. The modified coating for pavement surface consisted of MMA resin and natural rubber compound (NRC) at the weight ratio of 70:30, 60:40, 50:50, 40:60 and 30:70, respectively. The effect of rubber in MMA was studied in terms of hardness (shore A and pencil tests), adhesive, abrasion and shear strength. The results showed that hardness (shore A) and adhesion of the compound coating slightly decreased with addition of NRC. Abrasion, hardness pencil tests and shear strength notably reduced as decreasing MMA and increasing NRC concentration. The most optimum sample satisfing the pavement surface standard is M7N3 consisting of MMA:NRC of 70:30.

The amount of plastic wastes and tire wastes were continuously increasing. The old tires and polymer which was low-density polyethylene (LDPE) were used to create polymer-modified pavement to get rid of plastic wastes and tire wastes replacing asphalt road. LDPE of 15 wt% was the main matrix material of the modified road pavement instead of asphalt; moreover, ground tire rubber (GTR) at various concentration of 3, 5, 7 and 10 phr was used as the additive mixed with mineral aggregates of 85 wt%. In this study, the Marshall method was used to prepare the sample. The properties of Marshall stability, Marshall flow, bulk specific gravity and voids of the polymer-modified pavement were studied for comparing to commercial asphalts. The results showed that the strength of the modified pavement increased which was higher than commercial asphalts although void concentration increased. The bulk specific gravity decreased as increasing amount of GTR. The percentage of water absorption increased as addition of GTR content. This study might be benefits in reduction of waste and valuable resources as bitumen, and also recovery an environment

Ion removal is a long problem on natural freshwater resources. In order to modify the adsorption performance to remove ions from standard iron solution, natural zeolite and natural perlite were treated with deionized water (DI water) as D-zeolite and D-perlite. And, 1M sulphuric acid (H2SO4) was used to treat the adsorbent as H-zeolite and H-perlite. The capability of ion removal was preliminarily investigated from the reduction of iron in solution by X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. The result showed that treatment of adsorbents with DI water was more capability than 1M H2SO4 solution.

This research studied the influence of treated water hyacinth fibers with chemical substances and the orientation of water hyacinth (WH) fiber reinforced bio-based epoxy composite on mechanical properties. The specimens with direction at 90˚, 45˚ and 0˚ of WH fiber and different treatment substance were investigated. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane were used for the chemical treatment of fiber, which can improve the mechanical properties of the composite. The result shows that the tensile modulus of 1% silane treated WH fiber is higher than neat epoxy around 15%. The orientation of the fiber affects directly on the tensile strength. The addition of the WH fibers improves impact properties in all conditions compared to original epoxy.

This study is to examine substances which can protect the polymer composites against gnawing from rodent. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compound acted as polymer matrix was mixed with anti-rodent substances in internal mixer. Several substances were added in PVC namely: denatonium benzoate (DB), capsaicum oleroresin (CO), deltamethrin (DM), caffeine, pepper, salt, wasabi and essential oil. There were 6 sets of anti-rodent samples. The percentage of weight loss of each sample was recorded and compared. The result showed the best repellent substances were DB and CO giving bitter taste and burning sensation to the rodent, respectively. The best anti-rodent composites are samples in set 6 consisting of DB at concentration of 1.961 wt% and SiCO at concentration of 12.162 to 23.529 wt%.

The influence of bamboo charcoal (BC) in Poly (lactic) acid (PLA) matrix as masterbatch was studied on mechanical 40:60, 50:50 and 60:40 of masterbatch. BC MBs were diluted at 1 phr, 3 phr, and 5 phr. BC showed even distribution in PLA matrix; however,, it decreased compatibility in the matrix. The infusion of BC in PLA matrix enhanced the tensile modulus; however, there was a reduction in the tensile strength and the elongation at break. It could also be ascertained that there is no signification difference in the hardness of BC/PLA composites compared with neat PLA. The addition of BC slightly decreased shear viscosity of the composites. The optimal BC content in the composites was found to be 2.82wt.% (5 phr 60:40).

Natural rubber foam/tourmaline composite was prepared from natural rubber latex and vulcanized by sulfur curing system. Tourmaline powder was dispersed in potassium oleate before foaming production. The batch foaming production was used in this research. In order to investigate the effects of tourmaline concentration in natural rubber foam, mechanical properties, microstructure, and thermal skin temperature analysis were performed. Increasing of tourmaline concentration affected on high density and small microstructure of natural rubber foam, and the increasing of skin temperature. EDS result confirmed the good distribution of tourmaline powder in natural foam.

Flexibility of Polylactic acid (PLA) is improved by mixing capsicum oleoresin (CO) impregnated in mesoporous silica (SiCO) in the PLA matrix with SiCO concentration of 0.77 wt%, 1.54 wt% and 3.08 wt%. CO extracted from hot chili (Capsicum frutescens linn) is natural oil, non-toxic and good for environment. The SiCO/PLA composites were investigated water absorption, tear resistance and hardness properties. The improvement of tear strength of SiCO/PLA composites is due to increase in chain mobility of PLA because of the presence of capsicum oil. Hardness of the PLA composites slightly reduces with increasing SiCO concentration. SiCO/PLA composites are suitable for food packaging due to slightly water absorption. SiCO can improve flexibility of PLA. The optimum content of SiCO in PLA matrix is 3.08 wt%.

Rotational molding is the forming process that use in produce large product, complexity product and hollow product with the limitation of process ability and material. Most of the rotational molding is a large product with a longer useful life compare to other technique, so to reused the material from other process can help to increase the competition of rotational molding in the market. This paper chooses recycled HDPE from blowing process due to it generally used by the market and not difficult to find. So in this paper choose to studies the blend of virgin LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) and recycled HDPE (high density polyethylene) for application in septic tank by rotational molding process. Various ratio of blending were investigated to find the morphology, mechanical properties and the relation of melt flow rate and rheology. Mechanical properties are generally referred to tensile test, hardness test, impact strength and Morphology by Scanning Electron Microscope. Many studies have carried out to investigate about rotational molding forming process control, mold and process condition, some on material ability and new material to used in rotational molding to improve the mechanical properties and various technique in forming by rotational molding. But this article will investigated more about the use of recycled material from other forming technique process (which refer to blowing process in this article) to use in rotational molding process for produce septic tank compare to the commercial quality.

Geocell, a type of the geosynthetics, is normally used to improve natural geomaterial properties and performance because of confinement and confinement force. This work was an attempt to apply the solid natural rubber (NR) for producing the prototype of geocell with reinforcing the pavement structure of the road. There are three parts of all work in research, which consist of finding the optimal chemical formula, designing and producing the prototype and civil engineering testing of flexible pavement components. This research has emphasized and focused on finding the optimal chemical formula for the prototype production. The effect of silica-carbon black (CB) dual-phase filler on physical properties in terms of only static mechanical tests of the prototype was investigated. The total amount of hybrid reinforcing filler was fixed at 60 phr while the silica/CB ratios were 0/60, 10/50, 20/40, 30/30 and 40/20, respectively. Cure characteristic of the NR compound and physical properties in terms of static mechanical tests such as hardness, tensile and tear strengths of the NR vulcanizates were carried out. The results showed that time to 90% cross-linked (TC 90), hardness and tensile strength of the vulcanized rubber were increased with the increasing of silica content but not for its tear strength. Dispersion of the dual-phase filler in the prototype was reduced when the higher amount of silica in the dual-phase filler was employed as proved by images from the scanning electron microscope. There was only 60 phr CB that was selected as the optimal chemical formula for prototype production as the result of tensile and tear strength.

Waste printed circuit board (WPCB) from waste electrical and electronic equipment (e-waste) can be recycled a precious metal part while a non-metal part was burned or landfilled, which normally generated toxic substance of organic component to environment. The research work aimed to recycle epoxy resin by hot solvent chemical extraction. Polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) and ethylene glycol (EG), at 180°C, were mainly using as solvent and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as a catalyst. Extraction method was reflux technique. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Specific viscosity, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) methods were investigated and discussed. The TGA result showed that the organic composition was 40.73%wt. The maximum of percent yield was 97.89% at non-metal WPCB/PEG, equal to 0.05 g/ml. Moreover, the extracted product presented a functional group close to virgin epoxy resin according to the peak of FT-IR data. The recycled epoxy resin could be formed well on specimen by virgin epoxy resin and hardener filled with 50% recycled extraction product.

This research work aimed to apply the aluminium dross, waste of ADC12 and 6063 aluminium smelter grade as the raw materials produced plant fertilizer by acid treatment process with phosphoric and hydrochloric acid. Chemical properties have been tested as a chemical composition, pH, amount of macronutriants and heavy metals. The germination index testing was confirmed by using water extraction of the dross before and after pretreatment which effected on cantonese green lettuce seed. The results showed that more than 50% by weight of dross composition was alumina mainly. Others components were included oxides of silicon, magnesium, sodium, potassium, calcium, iron, and zinc. Interestingly, there are not appeared of harmful heavy metal elements. For fertilization properties, mainly nutrients as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) were investigated. Also, the germination test was investigated in an organic fertilizer standard test method as germination index (GI). Normally, the result was found that GI of un-treated dross was lower than that of a control sample. The treated dross with HCl and phosphoric acid presented higher GI than that of a reference sample. It was concluded that both grades of dross can be used as a fertilizer with acid treatment.

The topic of this research work was to demonstrate the feasibility of a 3D-MID concept using injection molding technique and investigate the effects of two weld line types on the structure and mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural strength and morphology. In order to obtain more understanding of the bonds between polymer and metals, two different polymer bases of polyphthalamide (PPA) with the same type and amount of filler content were produced by injection molding at the different processing conditions. A mold was designed in such a way that weld and meld line can be produced with different angles by changing as insert inside of the mold. The mechanical properties such as stiffness, tensile strength and flexural strength were determined in tensile and flexural tests, respectively. The results showed in line with the expectation of high reduction on mechanical properties in area where weld/meld lines occurred. The result of tensile test was clearly seen that weld and meld line showed a considerable influence on mechanical properties. The reduction in tensile strength was approximately 58% according to weld line types, whereas in flexural strength was approximately 62%. On the other hand, the effect of the injection times and mold temperatures on the tensile strength were marginal.

Polyhydroxybutylate-co-hydroxyvalerate (PHBV) is biodegradable aliphatic polyester that produced by a wide range of microorganism. In this research aims to study the melt rheological and extrudate swelling behavior of PHBV filled with bagasse. The composites prepared by melt mixing (Two roll mill and Twin screw extruder). The effects of processing techniques for PHBV powder and bagasse loading, aspect ratio (particle size i.e. x<150μm, 150250μm) and, surface treatment of bagasse were investigated by capillary rheometry at 180 °C. The dispersion of the bagasse was inspected by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A different compositions based on PHBV/bagasse were investigated according to the following weight ratios, i.e. 100/0, 95/5, 90/10, 80/20 and 70/30 wt% respectively. The results showed that the PHBV/bagasse composites exhibit pseudoplastic behaviour as the shear stress and extrudate swell increased with increasing shear rate while shear viscosity decreased. The apparent shear stress and apparent shear viscosity increased with increasing bagasse loading and, at a given apparent shear rate, the apparent shear stress increased slightly with increasing bagasse particle size. However, detrimental bagasse agglomeration was clearly observed to take place for sample with bagasse loading in excess of 20 wt%. The surface treatment of bagasse was carried out using silane coupling agent and benzoic acid. The results proved the effect of functionalization on the interfacial adhesion between PHBV and bagasse. Also, there was also further confirmed by rheology behaviour and SEM-EDS image.

This research was aimed to study and develop a method for recycle epoxy resin from waste printed circuit board by hot solvent methods and DMSO/NaOH catalytic extraction method. It was found that the pressure tank system, sub set of hot solvent method, variable as following; pressure of 15 bar, temperature of 80 °C, reaction time for 6 h and ethyl acetate solvent presented maximum yield 50.46 %, while DMSO/NaOH catalytic system at 145 °C for 5 h was found maximum yield of 42.97 %. Recycled epoxy resin, the final product from hot solvent and DMSO/NaOH catalytic were showed similarly clear orange-yellow high viscosity. Comparatively, DMSO/NaOH system showed slightly darker color than that of hot solvent system. Functional group at 3000-2850, 1480-1540 and 1020-1040 cm-1, characterized from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), indicated that the both product were alkane, aromatic, and phenyl-O-C group, respectively. It could be confirmed that the beneficial functional group of recycled epoxy resin was appeared as a new epoxy resin.

This research work was carried out on the production of rice bran/poly (lactic acid) (PLA) composites. The composition during the batch molding process included rice bran, PLA, glycerol, and magnesium stearate (mold released agent). Afterwards, the composition was molded by bio-compression at temperature of 170°C for 5 min, and a pressure range of 50-100 kg/cm3. The result showed that the composition of rice bran, PLA, and glycerol could be used in the formation of food packaging. Also the mechanical properties, such as compressive strength and hardness, were investigated. It could be concluded that the most appropriate formulation of rice bran packaging was 5 phr PLA and 3 phr glycerol and 2 phr magnesium stearate. Moreover, FTIR results indicated the non-toxic nature of this method of food packaging.

The rheological behavior and extrudate swell of polypropylene (PP)/silicon carbide (SiC) composites were investigated. Polypropylene-grafted-maleic anhydride (PP-g-MA) was introduced into blending system as a compatibilizer. The effect of silicon carbide loading and surface modification on the rheological behavior of PP/SiC composites were studied using a capillary rheometer and SEM analysis. The results showed that the composites exhibit pseudoplastic behavior as the shear stress and extrudate swell increased with increasing shear rate, while shear viscosity decreased. Moreover, an increasing elongation rate leads to reduce elongation viscosity. The addition of PP-g-MA in PP/SiC composites has significantly decreased the apparent shear stress, apparent shear viscosity and percentage of extrudate swell.

n the present study, the series of PP/SiC composites, containing 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 wt% of waste SiC particles from abrasive industry, were prepared in order to obtain composites with superior mechanical properties. PP/SiC composites with appropriate amount of SiC were used in order to study the effect of polypropylene-grafted-maleic anhydride (PP-g-MA) as a compatibilizer. Recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) from waste bottles (hereafter, rPET) was used as an reinforcing material for isotactic polypropylene (iPP) based on the concept of in situ microfibrillar‐reinforced composites (iMFCs). Microfibers of rPET were successfully generated during melt‐extrusion and subsequent drawing and preserved in the final injection‐molded specimens. The effects of draw ratio, initial size of ground rPET flakes, and rPET content on morphological appearance of the extrudates and the as‐formed rPET fibers and mechanical properties of the as‐prepared iMFCs were investigated. The results showed that diameters of the as‐formed rPET fibers decreased with increasing draw ratio, and the initial size of ground rPET flakes did not affect the final diameters of the as‐formed rPET fibers nor the mechanical properties of the as‐prepared iMFCs. Flexural modulus, tensile modulus, and tensile strength of iPP/rPET iMFCs were improved by the presence of rPET microfibers and further improvement could be achieved by the addition of maleic anhydride‐grafted iPP (PP‐g‐MA), which was used as the compatibilizer. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
