The adsorption property of small toxic gaseous molecules (SO2, SO3, H2S, and N2O) with metal/hexa‐vacancy defective graphene (denoted as HDG‐M, M: Fe2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+) was determined by density functional theory. The results of these calculations show that the Fe2+ion has the best and Cu2+the worst absorption ability to capture all of the above toxic gases with selected adsorption orientation. These results can provide useful information for the application of the designed HDG‐M adsorbents in food science and ecosystem monitoring. Predict the binding of toxic gases with metal ions ‐ hexa‐vacancy defective graphenes (HDG). HDG‐Fe(II) and HDG‐Cu(II) have the best and worst abilities to capture SO2, SO3, H2S , and N2O, respectively.

The surface of gold nanorods is chemically charged by ascorbic acid; the charging effect results in not only the blue shift on their surface plasmon bands, but also the change of the deposition rate of silver on their surfaces. The rate was prominently accelerated at room temperature, but slightly slowed down at higher temperature. The shape of gold‐silver core‐shell nanoparticles could not be obviously affected. The Fermi level of gold nanorods begins to increase under the action of charging and alters the electrical double‐layer structure of gold nanorods, resulting in the different deposition rate of silver on gold. The surface of gold nanorods is chemically charged by ascorbic acid; the charging effect can change the deposition rate of silver atoms on Au nanorods. The deposition rate highly depends on the amounts of the charging.

Anthracene hydrogenation in aqueous micellar solutions is catalyzed at room temperature by ionic-surfactant-protected gold and silver nanoparticles (NPs) with well-controlled particle sizes. When sodium borohydride was used as the hydrogen source in the presence of these NPs, the only product obtained in the reaction is 9,10-dihydroanthracene. During the course of the reaction, a blue shift in the surface plasmon resonance band of silver NPs was more prominent and lasted longer than that of gold NPs. The difference in the optical property of metal NPs was related to the charging of their surfaces, indicating that the metal NPs play a role as the nanoelectrode storing electrons from hydrides. At the same time, a remarkable size-dependence of catalytic activity was found for both gold and silver NPs. Mechanism about the electron transfer-relaying effects of metal NPs is proposed for the hydrogenation reaction.

Like typical alkenes, fullerenes can be oxidized by ozone. Epoxidation reaction takes place on C60, and C60On (n=l-5) are formed. Mass spectrometry and chromatography identified the stable existence of two isomers for the dioxides and three for the trioxides in the product mixtures. At lower temperatures, fragmentation occurs and results in the formation of the polar products. C70 and carbon nanotubes also react with ozone but at a much slower rate.
