Herein, we developed a novel strategy for synthesizing ladder (thio)furan-fused phospholes via intermolecular phosphonation cyclization and a base-promoted phospha-Friedel–Crafts reaction under mild conditions. The starting substrates are readily available phosphinic acids and easy-to-handle alkynes. The details of the reaction mechanism were further rationalized using theoretical calculations. This protocol can be widely applied to synthesize furan- and thiofuran-fused phospholes as well as the corresponding large π-extended derivatives, which are of great interest in the domain of organic functional materials.

This reaction proceeded in a new way to generate 4‐methoxy quinolines through a concerted nucleophilic mechanism of propargyl methyl ether. It is worth noting that propargyl methyl ether can be successfully transformed into 4‐methoxy quinolines only when substrates contain a strong electron‐donating group (OR). A glucopyranosyltriazole unit covalently bonded to a uridine nucleoside was synthesized and its gelation properties evaluated in ionic liquids. The ionogels were thermally stable; no melting occurred up to 111°C at 5 wt % concentration. Moreover, ionogel formed by gelator at 3 wt % concentration in [BMIM][TFSA] was found to retain the high conducting performances of the ionic liquid.Glucopyranosyltriazole unit covalently bonded on to uridine nucleoside was synthesized as novle low-molecular mass gelators (LMMGs). Their gelation properties were evaluated in different kinds of ionic liquids. The ionogels consist of fibrous structures having good thermally stability and high ionic conductivity.

Ultrafine Gd2O3:Eu3+nanocrystals were successfully prepared by a simple reverse microemulsion method and subsequent calcination. Their structural, optical and magnetic properties were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), photoluminescence (PL), and magnetic property measurement system (MPMS). The amorphous Gd2(CO3)3:Eu3+colloidal spheres were proved as an intermediate product, and gradually transformed into crystallized Gd2O3:Eu3+with average diameter less than 100 nm. The paramagnetic property of the synthesized Gd2O3:Eu3+nanocrystals were confirmed with its linear hysteresis plot (M-H). And Gd2O3:Eu3+nanocrystals showed high contrast T1-enhancing modality due to the presence of the Gd3+ions onto the particle surface. In addition, the application of the Gd2O3:Eu3+nanocrystals as biotag for cell labeling was reported, red fluorescence from Eu3+ions observed by fluorescence microscopy showed that the nanocrystals could permeate the cell membrane. Cytotoxicity studies of the Gd2O3:Eu3+nanocrystals showed no adverse effect on cell viability, evidencing their high biological compatibility. Therefore, the nanoprobe formed from Gd2O3:Eu3+nanocrystals provided the dual modality of optical and magnetic resonance imaging.

Sonogashira reaction has been successfully applied to the synthesis of a series of 5-(carbohydrate-ethynyl)-2'- deoxyuridines for the first time. The synthetic route is general, high-yielding and compatible with the readily removable protecting group.

Thirteen limonoids with a new carbon skeleton, the xylogranatins F–R (1–13), have been isolated from the seeds of a Chinese mangrove, Xylocarpus granatum; two recently reported compounds, xylogranatins C and D were also isolated. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data and chemical methods. The absolute configurations of these compounds were determined by using the modified Mosher MTPA ester method and by quantum chemical circular dichroism (CD) calculations. Xylogranatins F–Q are the first aromatic B‐ring limonoids found in nature. They belong to two substructural classes, of which one (1–3) contains a pyridine ring while the other one (4–12) contains a central furan core. Xylogranatins C and R can be considered to be key biosynthetic intermediates, while xylogranatin D, the only limonoid found so far with a carbon skeleton that conatains a C30C9linkage, is apparently an artifact. The structures of these compounds suggest a new biogenetic pathway to tetranortriterpenoids. Xylogranatins F, G and R were found to exhibit marked antifeedant activity against the third instar larvae of Mythimna separata(Walker) at a concentration of 1 mg mL−1. The most potent compound tested was xylogranatin G. Its AFC50(concentration for 50 % antifeedant activity) values at the exposure times of 24 and 48 h were 0.31 and 0.30 mg mL−1, respectively.

Xylogranatin E, the second phragmalin with a rare oxygen bridge between C1and C29found in nature, was isolated from the fruit of a Chinese mangrove, Xylocarpus granatum. Its structure was determined by spectroscopic analysis. Complete assignment of 1H and 13C NMR data of xylogranatin E was achieved by 2D NMR techniques, including 1H-1H COSY, HSQC, HMBC and NOESY spectra.
