Coupled with identification, 3D positioning can significantly enrich location-based services. Resonant beam (RB) is emerging as a promising solution to indoor positioning due to its self-aligning and energy-focused transmission. We propose a system for simultaneous localization and identification using RB as the individual medium. The base station (BS) employs a single-source RB, and each mobile target (MT) is equipped with a signal reflection module. For 3D localization, the BS estimates direction by analyzing RB’s spatial distribution and determines the distance from its frequency components. For identification, the passive MT captures the RB for power and reflects its identity (ID) to BS as spot flicker signals. To demonstrate the working principles, we have developed models for location estimation and ID recognition, as well as the power flow within the RB channel. In implementation, we incorporate a threshold regulation scheme for accurate image signal retrieval, along with an input power distribution model tailored for multi-access scenarios. Through simulating the entire process, we verify the system’s feasibility, including confirming the viability of ID recognition. We also evaluate localization performance, averaging ~ 1 cm at heights of 1.5 m ~ 2.5 m, showing promise for a wide range of potential applications.

Hydropower plays a pivotal role in low-carbon electricity generation, yet many projects are situated in regions facing heightened water scarcity risks. This research devised a plant-level Hydropower Water Scarcity Index (HWSI), derived from the ratio of water demand for electricity generation to basin-scale available runoff water. We assessed the water scarcity of 1736 hydropower plants in China for the baseline year 2018 and projected into the future from 2025 to 2060. The results indicate a notable increase in hydropower generation facing moderate to severe water scarcity (HWSI >0.05), rising from 10% in 2018 to 24–34% of the national total (430–630 TWh), with a projected peak in the 2030s–2040s under the most pessimistic scenarios. Hotspots of risk are situated in the southwest and northern regions, primarily driven by decreased river basin runoff and intensified sectoral water use, rather than by hydropower demand expansion. Comparative analysis of four adaptation strategies revealed that sectoral water savings and enhancing power generation efficiency are the most effective, potentially mitigating a high of 16% of hydropower risks in China. This study provides insights for formulating region-specific adaptation strategies and assessing energy-water security in the face of evolving environmental and societal challenges.

Understanding the impact of heavy precipitation on human mobility is critical for finer-scale urban flood risk assessment and achieving sustainable development goals #11 to build resilient and safe cities. Using ∼2.6 million mobile phone signal data collected during the summer of 2018 in Jiangsu, China, this study proposes a novel framework to assess human mobility changes during rainfall events at a high spatial granularity (500 m grid cell). The fine-scale mobility map identifies spatial hotspots with abnormal clustering or reduced human activities. When aggregating to the prefecture-city level, results show that human mobility changes range between −3.6 and 8.9%, revealing varied intracity movement across cities. Piecewise structural equation modeling analysis further suggests that city size, transport system, and crowding level directly affect mobility responses, whereas economic conditions influence mobility through multiple indirect pathways. When overlaying a historical urban flood map, we find such human mobility changes help 23 cities reduce 2.6% flood risks covering 0.45 million people but increase a mean of 1.64% flood risks in 12 cities covering 0.21 million people. The findings help deepen our understanding of the mobility pattern of urban dwellers after heavy precipitation events and foster urban adaptation by supporting more efficient small-scale hazard management.

Lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs), which are characterized by genetic and metabolic lysosomal dysfunctions, constitute over 60 degenerative diseases with considerable health and economic burdens. However, the mechanisms driving the progressive death of functional cells due to lysosomal defects remain incompletely understood, and broad-spectrum therapeutics against LSDs are lacking. Here, we found that various gene abnormalities that cause LSDs, including Hexb, Gla, Npc1, Ctsdand Gba, all shared mutual properties to robustly autoactivate neuron-intrinsic cGAS–STING signalling, driving neuronal death and disease progression. This signalling was triggered by excessive cytoplasmic congregation of the dsDNA and DNA sensor cGAS in neurons. Genetic ablation of cGAS or STING, digestion of neuronal cytosolic dsDNA by DNase, and repair of neuronal lysosomal dysfunction alleviated symptoms of Sandhoff disease, Fabry disease and Niemann–Pick disease, with substantially reduced neuronal loss. We therefore identify a ubiquitous mechanism mediating the pathogenesis of a variety of LSDs, unveil an inherent connection between lysosomal defects and innate immunity, and suggest a uniform strategy for curing LSDs.

The early identification of vulnerable patients has the potential to improve outcomes but poses a substantial challenge in clinical practice. This study evaluated the ability of an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled electrocardiogram (ECG) to identify hospitalized patients with a high risk of mortality in a multisite randomized controlled trial involving 39 physicians and 15,965 patients. The AI-ECG alert intervention included an AI report and warning messages delivered to the physicians, flagging patients predicted to be at high risk of mortality. The trial met its primary outcome, finding that implementation of the AI-ECG alert was associated with a significant reduction in all-cause mortality within 90 days: 3.6% patients in the intervention group died within 90 days, compared to 4.3% in the control group (4.3%) (hazard ratio (HR) = 0.83, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.70–0.99). A prespecified analysis showed that reduction in all-cause mortality associated with the AI-ECG alert was observed primarily in patients with high-risk ECGs (HR = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.53–0.90). In analyses of secondary outcomes, patients in the intervention group with high-risk ECGs received increased levels of intensive care compared to the control group; for the high-risk ECG group of patients, implementation of the AI-ECG alert was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of cardiac death (0.2% in the intervention arm versus 2.4% in the control arm, HR = 0.07, 95% CI = 0.01–0.56). While the precise means by which implementation of the AI-ECG alert led to decreased mortality are to be fully elucidated, these results indicate that such implementation assists in the detection of high-risk patients, prompting timely clinical care and reducing mortality. One case of acute Bell's palsy was reported and treated with Fu's subcutaneous needling(FSN). Present symptoms: facial muscle stiffness on the right side, ptosis of labial angle, failure to frown the right eyebrow, the eyeball exposed about 2 mm when gently closing the eyes, air leaking when bulging the cheeks, drooling when brushing the teeth and gargling, and food retained in the cheek when eating. Western medicine diagnosis: peripheral facial palsy. Traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis: facial paralysis. The subcutaneous swaying movement and reperfusion action of FSN were adopted on the affected muscles and achieved the remarkably effects on incomplete closure of eyes and drooping of the mouth. The patient was recovered quickly. Before and after treatment, the laser speckle contrast imaging was used to observe the improvement of blood flow on the face, which provides the idea for the research and clinical practice of Fu's subcutaneous needling in treatment of Bell's palsy.

Locating mobile devices precisely in indoor scenarios is a challenging task because of the signal diffraction and reflection in complicated environments. One vital cause deteriorating the localization performance is the inevitable power dissipation along the propagation path of localization signals. In this paper, we propose a high-accuracy localization scheme based on the resonant beam system (RBS) and the binocular vision, i.e., binocular based resonant beam localization (BRBL). The BRBL system utilizes the energy-concentrated and self-aligned transmission of RBS to realize high-efficiency signal propagation and self-positioning for the mobile target (MT). The binocular method is combined with RBS to obtain the three-dimensional (3-D) coordinates of the MT for the first time. To exhibit the localization mechanism, we first elaborate on the binocular localization model, including the resonant beam transmission analysis and the geometric derivation of the binocular method with RBS. Then, we establish the power model of RBS, and the signal and noise models of beam spot imaging, respectively, to analyse the performance of the BRBL system. Finally, the results of numerical analysis and comparison show that BRBL balances system complexity and localization precision effectively, i.e., providing cm-level localization accuracy with its simplicity and ease of implementation.

Background: Prior psychometric evidence of the Physical Resilience Instrument for Older Adults (PRIFOR) showed good criterion-related validity, concurrent validity, known-group validity, predictive validity, and internal consistency. However, it is unclear whether older patients with different treatment diagnoses interpret the PRIFOR similarly. Aims: This study aimed to test the psychometric properties of the PRIFOR scores among different treatment diagnoses of older patients. Methods: We recruited 413 hospitalized older patients with a medical diagnosis and 207 with a surgical diagnosis in a 1343-bed tertiary-care medical center in Taiwan. Data analyses included Rasch models, Principal Components Analysis (PCA), and Pearson correlations. Results: The Rasch analyses showed that all PRIFOR items were embedded within their belonged constructs, reflecting good construct validity and unidimensionality. Person and item separation reliability support the internal consistency of the studied samples and PRIFOR items. However, six PRIFOR items were found to have meaningful differential item functioning (DIF) problems among treatment diagnoses. Conclusions: The PRIFOR is a solid measurement and can be used for monitoring the status of older adults’ physical resilience. However, because six items were found to have meaningful DIF among treatment diagnosis groups, future studies should consider designing specific items for different patient populations to assess their needs in physical resilience.

The optimal pharmaceutical regimen for advanced thymic epithelial tumors (TETs) remains controversial when first-line chemotherapy fails. This retrospective study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anlotinib treatment for patients with relapsed and refractory TETs. Patients with progressive disease after failure of platinum-based chemotherapy were enrolled in this study. Anlotinib was orally taken once a day at an initial dose of 12 mg (10 mg when body weight <60 kg). The cycle was repeated every 3 weeks (2 weeks of treatment followed by 1-week rest). Objective response rate (ORR) and progression-free survival (PFS) were recorded as primary endpoints. There were 50 patients enrolled in this study from October 2018 to June 2021 at a median age of 50 (range 23–79) years old. Patients with thymoma and thymic carcinoma were 33 (66%) and 17 (34%), respectively. The ORR in thymoma and thymic carcinoma patients were 33% (11/33) and 41% (7/17), respectively. The median PFS (mPFS) was 7 (95% CI, 5.9–10.2) months in thymoma patients and 6 (95% CI, 4.6–9.3) months in the thymic carcinoma group. Eleven patients experienced dose reduction due to toxicities, among whom, eight patients discontinued treatment even after dose reduction. Six patients with thymoma showed myasthenia gravis deterioration during treatment, and two of them died of myasthenia gravis crisis. Anlotinib is active in patients with advanced TETs refractory to routine chemotherapy. Prescription of anlotinib to patients with myasthenia gravis should be made cautiously.

Reactive astrocytes play an important role in neurological diseases, but their molecular and functional phenotypes in epilepsy are unclear. Here, we show that in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and mouse models of epilepsy, excessive lipid accumulation in astrocytes leads to the formation of lipid-accumulated reactive astrocytes (LARAs), a new reactive astrocyte subtype characterized by elevated APOE expression. Genetic knockout of APOEinhibited LARA formation and seizure activities in epileptic mice. Single-nucleus RNA sequencing in TLE patients confirmed the existence of a LARA subpopulation with a distinct molecular signature. Functional studies in epilepsy mouse models and human brain slices showed that LARAs promote neuronal hyperactivity and disease progression. Targeting LARAs by intervention with lipid transport and metabolism could thus provide new therapeutic options for drug-resistant TLE.

Immunotherapy in combination with chemotherapy is the current treatment of choice for frontline programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1)–positive gastric cancer. However, the best treatment strategy remains an unmet medical need for elderly or fragile patients with gastric cancer. Previous studies have revealed that PD-L1 expression, Epstein-Barr virus association, and microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) are the potential predictive biomarkers for immunotherapy use in gastric cancer. In this study, we showed that PD-L1 expression, tumor mutation burden, and the proportion of MSI-H were significantly elevated in elderly patients with gastric cancer who were older than 70 years compared with patients younger than 70 years from analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas gastric adenocarcinoma cohort [≥70/<70: MSI-H: 26.8%/15.0%, P=0.003; tumor mutation burden: 6.7/5.1 Mut/Mb, P=0.0004; PD-L1 mRNA: 5.6/3.9 counts per million mapped reads, P=0.005]. In our real-world study, 416 gastric cancer patients were analyzed and showed similar results (≥70/<70: MSI-H: 12.5%/6.6%, P=0.041; combined positive score ≥1: 38.1%/21.5%, P<0.001). We also evaluated 16 elderly patients with gastric cancer treated with immunotherapy and revealed an objective response of 43.8%, a median overall survival of 14.8 months, and a median progression-free survival of 7.0 months. Our research showed that a durable clinical response could be expected when treating elderly patients with gastric cancer with immunotherapy, and this approach is worth further study.

The detection of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), the third gas signaling molecule, is a promising strategy for identifying the occurrence of certain diseases. However, the conventional single- or dual-signal detection can introduce false-positive or false-negative results, which ultimately decreases the diagnostic accuracy. To address this limitation, we developed a luminescent, photothermal, and electrochemical triple-signal detection platform by optically trapping the synthetic highly doped upconversion coupled SiO2microbeads coated with metal–organic frameworks H-UCNP-SiO2@HKUST-1 (H-USH) to detect the concentration of H2S. The H-USH was first synthesized and proved to have stable structure and excellent luminescent, photothermal, and electrochemical properties. Under 980 nm optical trapping and 808 nm irradiation, H-USH showed great detection linearity, a low limit of detection, and high specificity for H2S quantification via triple-signal detection. Moreover, H-USH was captured by optical tweezers to realize quantitative detection of H2S content in serum of acute pancreatitis and spontaneously hypertensive rats. Finally, by analyzing the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, we concluded that triple-signal detection of H2S was more accurate than single- or dual-signal detection, which overcame the problem of false-negative/positive results in the detection of H2S in actual serum samples.

Air-layer drag reduction (ALDR) technology for ship energy saving is getting more and more attention in recent years because of the outstanding drag reduction effect. In order to promote practical application, it is necessary to fully understand the two phase flow characteristics of the air layer. Recent experimental studies have shown that the surface of the air layer presents wave pattern, which has an important influence on its damage risk. However, it is difficult to measure the wave pattern quantificationally due to the interference of equipment. The main goal of the present paper is to investigate the wave pattern characteristic of air layer in cavity using numerical simulation method. On this basis, the effect of flow and geometric influence factors are discussed to understand the key control conditions. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical method based on Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and volume of fluid (VOF) interface capturing method is established, and has been successfully applied in the simulation of air layer wave pattern. Both 2-D and 3-D simulations are carried out, aiming at analyzing air-water interface flow and vortex flow directly. Based on the simulation results, several important conclusions about the mechanism of air layer wave pattern can be obtained. Firstly, it is found to be an inherent characteristic that the wave height of the upstream air layer is higher than that of the downstream. The extremely high wave peak is easy to contact with the flat plate, leading to the breakup of air layer and a “central blank area” phenomenon. With the help of flow analysis, it is found that this characteristic is mainly caused by the strong counterclockwise vortex behind the bow wedge block. Secondly, the air layer stability is reduced with the increase of water flow velocity by affecting the wave height. There is a saturation point of air flow rate to reach maximum thickness of air layer. Thirdly, cavity configuration has obvious influence on air layer stability by influencing vortex flow field. The increase of cavity depth and width can aggravate the unsteady and nonlinear characteristics of air layer. Finally, comprehensive design criteria are concluded from the view of geometrical configuration and flow conditions. A cavity with the moderate depth and width can avoid the upstream damage of air layer. Longitudinal position of air nozzles should be set within the low pressure zone behind the wedge block for stable air layer formation.

Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is a prospective technology that can handle the energy consumption and communication requirements in the Internet of Things. Resonant beam SWIPT (RB-SWIPT) scheme utilizes narrow optical beam as carrier and with spatially separated resonator structure, which can support high power and high rate SWIPT for mobile devices. However, the performance of original RB-SWIPT systems is limited by returning beam interference and transmission loss. In this paper, we propose a RB-SWIPT scheme for transmission-enhanced and anti-interference. The telescope internal modulator (TIM) and second harmonic generator (SHG) are adopted in the proposed system. The TIM can compress beams to reduce the transmission loss. The SHG can generate frequency-doubled beams to avoid interference. To evaluate the proposed system, we establish mathematical models to depict the beam transmission, energy conversion, electric power output and data receiving. Numerical results illustrate that the proposed system can achieve 18 bit/s/Hz spectral efficiency and deliver 8 W power over 100 m distance.

Plant genomes contain a large fraction of noncoding sequences. The discovery and annotation of conserved noncoding sequences (CNSs) in plants is an ongoing challenge. Here we report the application of comparative genomics to systematically identify CNSs in 50 well-annotated Gramineae genomes using rice (Oryza sativa) as the reference. We conduct multiple-way whole-genome alignments to the rice genome. The rice genome is annotated as 20 conservation states (CSs) at single-nucleotide resolution using a multivariate hidden Markov model (ConsHMM) based on the multiple-genome alignments. Different states show distinct enrichments for various genomic features, and the conservation scores of CSs are highly correlated with the level of associated chromatin accessibility. We find that at least 33.5% of the rice genome is highly under selection, with more than 70% of the sequence lying outside of coding regions. A catalog of 855,366 regulatory CNSs is generated, and they significantly overlapped with putative active regulatory elements such as promoters, enhancers, and transcription factor binding sites. Collectively, our study provides a resource for elucidating functional noncoding regions of the rice genome and an evolutionary aspect of regulatory sequences in higher plants.

Blade tip breakage, root breakage, and even wind turbine damage caused by wind blade vibration are the major problems that are faced by the promotion of wind power generation. For the vibration problem of a large wind turbine blade system, the mathematical model of an intelligent flexible blade is established, the outer ring virtual displacement and inner ring torsion angle double closed-loop system is constructed, and the self-coupling Proportion Differential controller is designed based on the self-coupling Proportion Integration Differential control method. It has a simple structure and is easier to tune parameters than other traditional control methods. In addition, the method equates any complex nonlinear system to a linear perturbation system through the definition of total perturbation, which greatly reduces the dependence on the model. MATLAB/Simulink simulation results show that the proposed self-coupling Proportion Integration Differential control method can realize the chatter control of the wind turbine blades, the response time is shortened by 0.7 s and the recovery stabilization time is reduced by 0.5 s compared with the IMPC adaptive Proportion Integration Differential combination control under the same wind condition. The recovery stabilization time is accelerated by 1 s, and the maximum torsion angle is reduced by 14 %.

ABSTRACTObjectiveMigraine is a common disease worldwide and migraine prevention is primarily currently based on pharmaceuticals. The mechanism of Vitamin B2 may positively contribute to migraine. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the impact of Vitamin B2 supplementation on the days, duration, frequency, and pain score of the migraine attack.Methods: The PRISMA guideline was used for the studying process. Five electronic databases, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL, and CEPS were searched from 1990 to March 2019. The search terms were Vitamin B2, migraine, and prophylactic. A meta-analysis was performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) version.Results: Nine articles were included in systemic review and finally meta-analysis. Eight randomized controlled trials and one controlled clinical trial with 673 subjects were analyzed using meta-analysis. Vitamin B2 supplementation significantly decreased migraine days (p = .005, I2 = 89%), duration (p = .003, I2 = 0), frequency (p = .001, I2 = 65%), and pain score (p = .015, I2 = 84%).ConclusionsA pooled analysis of available randomized controlled clinical trials demonstrated that Vitamin B2 400 mg/day for three months supplementation had significant effect on days, duration, frequency, and pain score of migraine attacks.

Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) often worsens with the deterioration of a patient's condition. Therefore, we hypothesized that monitoring AKI dynamically from day 1 to day 3 was potential to predict hospital mortality. Specifically, we explored whether monitoring AKI dynamically in the intensive care unit (ICU) could be a sepsis phenotype predictive of mortality. A new classification was established based on the change in the AKI stage from admission day 1 and day 3. We compared the hospital mortality, cytokines, and immune response pattern between each group.

Gefitinib has been available in the market for 20 years, but its pharmacokinetic mechanism of response is little known. In this study, we examined the pharmacokinetic and metabolomic profiles in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with sensitive EGFR mutations. A total of 216 advanced NSCLC patients were enrolled, and administered gefitinib at the standard dosage of 250 mg/day, which was established in heterogeneous subjects with non-sensitive mutations. We identified and quantified three main metabolites (named as M1, M2 and M3) in the plasma of patients, the correlations between the concentration of gefitinib/metabolites and efficacy were analyzed. In exploratory and validation set, gefitinib concentration was not correlated with clinical effects. Considering the result that the therapeutic effects of 250 mg/2-day was better than that of 250 mg/day in a multiple center clinical trial, the standard dose might be higher than that for maximal efficacy according to the hypothetical dose-response curve. Among the three metabolites, the IC50of M2 in HCC827 and PC9 cell lines was significantly lower, and Conc.brain/Conc.plasmaof M2 in mice was significantly higher than those of gefitinib, suggesting its higher potential to penetrate blood–brain barrier and might be more effective in the treatment of brain metastatic tumor than gefitinib. Consistently and attractively, higher M2 plasma concentration was found to be correlated with better clinical outcome in patients with brain metastases (the median PFS of CM2< 12 ng/mL and CM2≥ 12 ng/mL were 17.0 and 27.1 months, respectively, P= 0.038). The plasma concentration of M2 ≥ 12 ng/mL was a strong predictor of the PFS of NSCLC patients. In conclusion, for NSCLC patients with EGFR sensitive mutations, the standard dose is suspectable and could be decreased reasonably. M2 plays an important role in efficacy and may be more effective in the treatment of metastatic tumor than gefitinib.

Pd/PdO H-NWs with ultrafine nanocrystal subunits and abundant defects are synthesized by a facile pyrolysis approach. Pd/PdO H-NWs exhibit up to 95.6% CO Faraday efficiency for CO2ER in flow cell, highlighting high application potential.

An artificial intelligence model using chest radiographs identified individuals at high risk of osteoporosis, and screening of these patients with dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry resulted in increased rates of osteoporosis diagnosis.

The Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) is an indirect measurement of bone quality, and studies have shown that TBS is an independent predictor of fracture risk. This cross-sectional investigation aimed to explore the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and TBS using data from the 2005–2006 US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The association between individual MetS components and TBS was examined. There was a significant linear decrease in TBS with an increase in the number of MetS components. The β coefficients of TBS among participants with 3 and ≥4 MetS components were −0.015 and −0.041 (p=0.006 and p<0.001, respectively). Among participants with MetS, high systolic blood pressure, abdominal obesity, and high serum levels of triglycerides and glucose were significantly associated with lower TBS in fully adjusted models (p<0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant linear decrease in TBS with an increase in the number of MetS components in both sexes. TBS significantly decreased with an increasing number of MetS components in a US population. The components of MetS, including systolic blood pressure, waist circumference, and serum levels of triglyceride and glucose, exhibited a negative association with TBS.

The surface flow field of internal waves generated by the underwater vehicle is very weak. In order to study the characteristics of the surface wake of internal waves, a surface particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique which can be used to measure the flow field in the order of mm/s is developed. Breakthrough is made with respect to the key technique measuring the micro-velocity flow field of internal waves on the water surface in stratified fluids. The wake generated by SUBOFF model is measured in stratified fluid tank, and the surface flow field of internal waves is successfully measured for the first time. The experimental results are compared with predicted results by the classical Tuck’s internal wave theory. The results show the characteristics of the surface wake signature of internal waves and the variation of the angle between internal wave beams and the surface flow velocity of internal wave with the towing speed of the model are in good agreement. It provides support for further research on wake signature remote sensing of internal waves in laboratory.

Anthropogenic and climatic perturbations redistribute arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), and selenium (Se) within the environment. The speciation characteristics of these elements determine their behavior and biogeochemical cycling, but these redox-sensitive species are challenging to capture, with few methods able to harmonize measurements across the whole plant-soil-ecosystem continuum. In this study, we developed a novel diffusive gradient in thin films (DGT) method based on aminopropyl and mercaptopropyl bi-functionalized mesoporous silica spheres (AMBS) to achieve in-situ, simultaneous, and selective quantification of AsIII, SbIII, and SeIV, three typical/toxic but difficult to measure inorganic species. When used for environmental monitoring within a river catchment, AMBS-DGT exhibited stable/accurate predictions of these species despite varying water chemistries (ionic strength 0.01–200 mmol L–1NO3–, pH 5–9 for AsIIIand SbIII, and pH 5–7.5 for SeIV). Furthermore, river deployments also showed that time-averaged species concentrations by AMBS-DGT were reproducible compared with high-frequency sampling and measurement by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy. When AMBS-DGT was used for sub-mm scale chemical imaging of soil solute fluxes, the method resolved concomitant redox-constrained spatial patterns of AsIII, SbIII, and SeIVassociated with root O2penetration within anaerobic soil. Improved capabilities for measurement of compartment interfaces and microniche features are critical alongside the measurement of larger-scale hydrological processes that dictate the fine-scale effects, with the AMBS-DGT achieving this for AsIII, SbIII, and SeIV.
