This study aimed to compile a list of the 100 most cited articles on mandibular fractures and to glean key insights from these articles via a bibliometric analysis. This bibliometric analysis was performed using the Web of Science Core Collection database. The search was performed through January 2022. The bibliometric parameters extracted included title, number of citations, citation density (number of citations per year), first author's country, year of publication, study design, and subject. The software program VOSviewer was used to create graphical bibliometric maps. The articles were ranked by the total number of citations, which ranged from 64 to 374, with 32 articles being cited more than 100 times. The included articles were published from 1952 to 2015, mainly in maxillofacial surgery journals. The most frequent of these were the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (54%) and the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (14%). The studies were from 29 different countries, with the United States of America (42%) contributing substantially more than others, with the next ranked nation being Germany (9%). The most frequently used keywords were osteosynthesis (25), open reduction (18), and fixation (16). The country that contributed most to mandibular fracture research was the United States of America. This conclusion was based on the number of published articles by nation of origin and the origin of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery , in which the majority were published. Objective: This study aimed to examine whether Sjögren syndrome (SS) is related to periodontal status.Study Design: A systematic review was performed on the basis of PRISMA (PROSPERO: CRD42017055202). A search was performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, Web of Science, and Science Direct databases. Hand searches and review of the gray literature were also performed. Three researchers independently selected studies, extracted data, and assessed methodologic quality. Studies that correlated primary and/or secondary SS with plaque index, gingival index, probing depth, and bleeding on probing were included. The risk of bias was estimated on the basis of the Newcastle-Ottawa scale.Results: Seventeen studies were included in the review and 9 included in the meta-analysis, with a total of 518 and 544 patients, with or without SS, respectively. The mean difference of plaque index (0.29; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.17-0.41), gingival index (0.52; 95% CI 0.14-0.89), and bleeding on probing (9.92; 95% CI 4.37-15.47) were larger in patients with SS than in controls. In primary SS (0.47; 95% CI 0.10-0.83) and secondary SS (0.74; 95% CI 0.10-1.38), only the mean gingival index was larger compared with that in control group. The majority of the included studies were judged as having a high risk of bias.Conclusions: The present review did not provide strong evidence that periodontal status is affected by SS. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical evidence of hyaluronic acid (HA) in minimizing inflammatory parameters such as pain, edema, and trismus after extraction of third molar (3M). An electronic search was conducted in 4 databases. The eligibility criteria included clinical trials that used HA compared with placebo or no treatment after 3M surgeries. The search strategy resulted in 752 references, of which 5 studies were included comprising 271 patients. Regarding the risk of bias analysis, most criteria were rated as low or unclear risk of bias. All the evaluated studies were classified as low risk of bias in the selective reporting criteria. The final quantitative analysis of the variables showed that the use of HA resulted in a greater reduction of pain levels on the third (mean difference = -0.68; 95% confidence interval, -1.20 to -0.17) and seventh (mean difference = -0.36; 95% confidence interval, -0.64 to -0.09) postoperative days. There are no differences between the analyzed groups in relation to trismus. It was not possible to conduct meta-analysis for the edema variable because of the heterogeneity of the methods of measurement. The results suggest that HA seems to provide a lower average pain on the third and seventh postoperative days and has no influence on postoperative trismus after extraction of 3Ms; however, more research with stronger methodology is needed to determine its efficacy.
