Point-of-care (POC) high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) assays have been shown to provide similar analytical precision despite substantially shorter turnaround times compared with laboratory-based hs-cTn assays. We applied the previously developed machine learning based personalised Artificial Intelligence in Suspected Myocardial Infarction Study (ARTEMIS) algorithm, which can predict the individual probability of myocardial infarction, with a single POC hs-cTn measurement, and compared its diagnostic performance with standard-of-care pathways for rapid rule-out of myocardial infarction.

Increasing awareness of the importance of pathology stewardship in reducing low value care has led to scrutiny of appropriate laboratory test ordering. The objective of this study is to investigate the value of a commonly ordered laboratory test, the C-reactive protein (CRP), in decisions regarding diagnosis, management and disposition of emergency department (ED) patients with suspected sepsis.

Most road traffic crash injuries are minor to moderate in severity, but can still lead to persistent disability. One aspect of this disability is being unable to return to paid employment. Being unable to work has follow-on effects for personal financial stability, health and quality of life, as well as increasing costs for employers and society more broadly. In order to better understand the trajectory of returning to work in individuals injured in road traffic crashes, a prospective inception cohort study will be conducted across multiple sites in Queensland, Australia that will assess work and health outcomes in the first year after injury. This study protocol describes the process undertaken by the research team to design the methodology of this study.
