Gaps exist in archival practices, and developments are in progress to decolonise and transform archives by supplementing existing archival collections with oral history accounts. This is a recent development in the archival field, requiring archivists and records managers to become aware of how oral history collections should be undertaken to preserve testimonies related to socio-economic, sociopolitical, and cultural events not yet captured by South African public archivists. An open educational resource (OER) was developed in 2022 as part of an engaged scholarship initiative to instruct archivists on oral history research techniques and how to apply research ethics when undertaking such projects. The research paradigm for this study was a postmodernist qualitative study. Action-based research was used in the research design. Action research is a flexible methodology uniquely suited to research and support change. It integrates social research with exploratory actions to promote development. Action research outcomes are both practical and theoretical. The knowledge it generates directly and continuously impacts the changing practices of the participants. Data from participants were collected through recorded project workshops and meetings. The content for the OER was developed from observing online videos showcasing oral history interviews, consulting literature on OER development, and discussions with archivists and heritage collectors at the South African National Film, Video and Sound Archives, the South African National Parks Board, and the Gauteng Provincial Archives. The OER was developed to enable collaboration to ensure that the oral narratives of postcolonial Africa, particularly post-apartheid South Africa, are not lost but captured by the public archives' services for the benefit of South Africans and other interested stakeholders. The five important features of Chinese-style modernization have profound sports implications. Being an important part of the socialist modernization process, the new and high-quality development of Chinese sport is not only the internal requirement for the comprehensive construction of socialist modernization, but the embodiment of Chinese-style modernization in the field of sport, and the strong foundation and support for promoting and expanding Chinese modernization. Chinese-style modernization offers a basic context for the development of Chinese sport as well as the logic of its future prospect. Therefore, based on the Chinese-style modernization in the new era, sport should become the basic means to promote the all-round development of people due to the characteristics of sport in itself, such as strengthening the body, challenging and surpassing the self. Sport should become an important means to shape the society through the awareness of rules, teamwork and fighting spirit carried by sport. Sport should play as an engine for economic development and become a new driving force for economic and social development and a new way for balanced regional development. And the essence of competitive sports' function of "winning glory for the country" should be explored thus to make Chinese spirit of sport become a unique symbol of Chinese modernization construction. The concept of "shared history" is a historical research paradigm vigorously advocated by historian Xu Guoqi in recent years, which has received great attention from the academic circles at home and abroad. In Xu's work, sport plays an important role. Through analyzing the research paradigm for sport's "shared history", it can be seen that the paradigm is obviously characteristic of the non-government participators as the research subject, the cultural exchange as content, and the human destiny community construction as the research purpose. The research shows this paradigm originates from a transnational history and has a clear academic tradition, aiming to promote mutual understanding among civilizations and help realize shared future for mankind. Taking sport's "shared history" as an example, the study on the history of sport in China should follow the principles of Marx's historical materialism and write with the "grand historical view", thus gradually form the academic research family tree and accelerate the construction of Chinese-style sport history research. Taking sport's "shared history" as references, the practical study can be conducted from two dimensions of space and behavior subjects. The sport's "shared history" concept academically breaks through the historical writing paradigm of "Western-centered thinking", and provides a reliable historical perspective for easing international tension and constructing a harmonious society in practice. The travel diaries of important personalities enrich historical research with the subjective perception of the new places explored. It is no different for sportsmen and women who wrote down their observations during their foreign trips with the national team. So far, these materials have not been used for the study of the history of physical education and sport, nor in other fields. The aim of this study is to introduce this new source of information. Only the most successful athletes are selected to represent their country in international competitions. In any era, it is both an honour and a responsibility. In the past, if the event took place abroad, many saw it as an opportunity to make new discoveries. Some felt the need to record their findings in writing in the form of a diary. This then became an autobiographical source, which was usually not written for public reading. It thus preserves often research-valuable information from the author’s inner world, reflecting the world around them. Shunning the welfare ideals of the Nehruvian state, India in the 1990s was framed through the notion of newness, constant change and dynamic movement: Urban vistas were architecturally reconstructed, economic policies were redrawn, middle-class ecologies were booming, and a culture of consumerism was reshaping everyday life and urban subjectivities. Amidst this shifting urban cartography of spaces and practices, the rapid rise of private television enabled the medium to embody the asymmetrical visions of transformation associated with 'New India'. In the world of Indian sports too, this was a period marked by colossal change and movement. While cricket during this time came to acquire a bullying presence across the national sporting imaginary, other historically popular sports such as football fell from grace and persevered only within certain regional patches of the country. In this paper, I attempt a comparative history of cricket and football in post-globalization India as the games get consolidated through a constellation of neo-nationalist aspirations, private television networks, and sporting federation bodies. Unlike other sports-media arrangements in the West (Wenner 1998, Rowe 2003), I will argue that a consideration of sensorial and 'aesthetic infrastructures' (Larkin 2013) has been fundamental in deciding the contrasting fortunes of both cricket and football in India. In thinking through Marc Auge's architectural landscape of supermodernity (1995), I propose the term 'architectonics of aspiration' to refer to an aesthetic form of image production that has guided the notions of quality and liveness for the Indian sports-broadcasting context. Moving beyond postmodern concerns of images as 'representations,' a consideration of aesthetic and affective dimensions allows us to pursue the materiality of images and how they feed into a larger spatial diagram of images in sports bars, bazaars, and emerging sports cafes. More significantly, in a world where virtually all elite sporting competitions are categorized as sportsmedia enterprises, aesthetic infrastructures enable us to think beyond a homogenous sports-media architectural experience. The modern sport of athletics emphasizes its 'Olympian' ideals and its origins in the public schools, universities and amateur clubs of the late Victorian era. Ironically for a sport that has so successfully commercialized itself and boasts many highly paid professionals, its debt to its predecessor, pedestrianism, the name for running for money, has been relatively neglected. Pedestrianism was a major sporting interest and an abiding part of popular culture in the nineteenth century. This paper, using the example of the West Midlands, traces how the sport adapted itself to urbanization and the leisure industry, encompassed disciplines as varied as sprints and walks of a thousand miles, how it was involved in the growth of the specialist sporting press, pioneered sports arenas and, not least, provided opportunities for female athletes. Britain holds a significant place in the organization of modern sport, and there is perhaps no greater contribution than that of the Much Wenlock Olympian Games, founded by Dr William Penny Brookes and the people of the Shropshire town of Much Wenlock in 1850. In July and August 2022, Birmingham will host the twenty-second Commonwealth Games. Much of the literature surrounding elite sports begins in the middle of the nineteenth century, when "modern sport" began, following the codification of many sports after the foundation of organizations such as the Football Association (1863), Rugby Football Union (1871) and the Amateur Athletics Association (1880). Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the pottery and ceramic industry in Britain became synonymous with a collection of six towns located in North Staffordshire. These towns would later amalgamate and become the modern city of Stoke-on-Trent, with the area commonly referred to as The Potteries. However, whilst the industrial history of The Potteries has received considerable scholarly attention, few researchers have sought to examine the development of sport in the area. During the nineteenth century, Britain underwent a 'sporting revolution' where modern forms of sport began to emerge, be codified and grow significantly in popularity. This paper provides an initial survey of the development of sport in The Potteries and considers the four most prominent activities that became established in the area – athletics, association football, cricket and horse racing – whilst also considering the importance of 'the wakes' in facilitating the popularization of sport. On the centenary of the Communist Party of China, Journal of Shanghai University of Sport organized a seminar with the topic of Chinese socialist sports development path of the Communist Party of China by inviting the experts from 14 sports universities. It aims to conclude the experience and laws of sport development with Chinese characteristics by means of the writing form. CAO Weidong from Beijing Sport University, holds that we should deeply understand the 4 roles sport plays which have been posed by President XI Jinping,that is, sport is the channel to improve people's health level,a longing for beautiful life, the means to promote people's overall development,the drive to advance economy and society,as well as the platform of demonstrating cultural soft power. We should give full play to the multi-function and prepositional force of sport and help the sport power construction. LI Yin from Shanghai University of Sport, states that people' s subjectivity is the value pursuit and practice goal of centenary thoughts on sport by the Chinese Communist Party. In term of value subject, the sports thoughts deeply show the essential orientation of "sports development for people" ; for the part of practice subject, "sports development depends on people" ; and as for the shared subject, "sport development achievements are shared by people". XU Yanbing from Wuhan Sports University, believes that the red sport spirit of the Communist Party of China is shown in the general outlook of service for demand and health for people, as well as innovation, tolerance and striving connotation. The 3 stages of sport spirit history, i.e. saving country by strong gene,national identity by body building, and health confidence, are elaborated as well. HUANG Daojun from Xi' an Physical Education University says the red sport spirit during Yan' an period had the unique formation basis and evolution history, under whose guidance, the booming of sport enterprise in the area of Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia not only built the solid foundation for the success of Anti-Japanese War and Liberation War, but gathered valuable experience for the start of sport enterprise in new China. LIU Qing from Chengdu Sport University, holds that the basic practices for Chinese socialist sport path include the clinging to the leadership of the Party and socialist development direction; holding people-centered sport enterprise to the satisfaction of people; maintaining the advantage of the socialist system and pushing the coordinated development of sports in all fields; strengthening the ideological political work and promoting Chinese sport spirit; keeping open-up policy and reform innovation of sport advanced with time. YAO Shouqi from Shenyang Sport University states that the red sport concept enriches the connotation of red spirit and culture, which helps the exploration, cultivation and growth of sport human resources, the enforcement and perfection of "healthy China", the overall development of sport power construction, and the increase of sport cultural soft power. HE Ming from Capital University of Physical Education and Sports believes that Communist Party of China contributes to the Olympic development by leading the nation to develop sports enterprise and Olympic games, eliminating misunderstandings in communicating with the world and moving forward in mutual appreciation. WANG Huan from Tianjin University of Sport, states that the centenary sports practice in Tianjin proves that only Chinese Communist Party can lead people to realize the dream of strong sports nation. We should explore a specific and effective development mode for mass sports during the process of sports power construction and "Healthy China" strategy construction. MI Yinjun from Guangzhou Sport University says that RONG Guotuan, as the first world champion in new China, and his motto "How many decisive battles one can encounter in his whole life" are still alive with time value, which needs to be passed down from generation to generation. WANG Yi from Shandong Sport University, holds that the leaders successively attach importance to sport enterprises since the founding of the Party. They start with the theory and practical reality of Chinese revolution and construction, and establish the socialist sport thinking system with Chinese characteristics, which becomes the guidance and work principles to realize "strong sport nation dream".ZHU Chuangeng from Nanjing Sport Institute, states that Chinese sport history has gone through the stages of "sport for saving country", "sport for rejuvenating country", "sport for serving country" and "sport for building a strong country". Important experience is drawn from the centenary sport development, that is, the leadership of the Communist Party of China, people-centered, serving national key tasks, and Chinese socialist sport development path. ZHENG Yongkui from Jilin Sport University holds that the Chinese socialist sport development path should follow the Party's leadership and attach importance to the sport value realization. Others include mission consciousness, sport function, socialist system advantage, sport power construction, the vision of open-up and new layout, the Olympic spirit and the manifestation of sport soul. LAN Jingli from Harbin Sport University illustrates that the scientific connotation of centenary sports thoughts and the development orientation of sports higher education in new era should be correctly interpreted; the sport education and teaching concept, patterns and internal governance system should be swiftly pushed forward. SHEN Fuping from Hebei Sport University believes that the sport theory and practice, which was put forward by President XI during his work in Zhengding County, as well as his "people-oriented" concept, proves his strategic vision and practical style, which provides strong thinking guidance for the sports enterprise development and sport power construction. War metaphors have long been used in sports news reporting. In reality, war metaphors are also used commonly in daily conversations. The wide usage of war metaphors in sports news reporting is because the two domains (i.e. war and sports) are comparable to each other, thereby enabling the use of war terms to describe the sports domain. Following a corpus-informed approach, the strength of modifiers (adjectives) in reversing or retaining the polarity of war metaphors and subsequently affecting news sentiment was examined. Sports news from the BBC Sports News, Malay Mail Online and the Malaysian Online Sports News Corpus, which amounted to 2.3 million words of sports texts, were subjected to corpus analysis. The UCREL Semantic Analysis System identified possible war terms in the corpora and Collocate 2.0 was used to locate adjectives and their respective collocates. Findings indicated that news writers do not necessarily use adjectives as a tool to negate the positive sentiment of news or intensify the negative sentiments. Instead, war metaphors collocated with particular modifiers resulted in a good balance of sports news reported with a negative polarity, positive polarity or a neutral tone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
