The article reports that a one-year moratorium on the nuclear power development program has been approved by Italy's Council of Ministers in an effort to avoid hasty decision-making by the government prompted by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear crisis in Japan. In conjunction to this, the Council has issued a decree that will integrate existing nuclear legislation which addresses several issues like the establishment of national nuclear research, licensing procedures, and defining criteria for selecting sites and reactor types.
