The article focuses on a study which offered new and old data on avifaunas from the Canary Islands. More than 1,600 new fossil bones were obtained from 16 sites from the islands of Fuerteventura, El Hierro and Tenerifo and the Lobos islet. Bird fossils were identified using the osteological comparative collections of the Laboratorio de Arqueozoología of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution. Among the fossil species identified were Coturnix gomerae, Pelagodroma marina and Calonectris diomedea.

The article presents a study which investigates the ratio of breeders and non-breeders red-billed chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) population in La Palma, Canary Islands to other continental and other island areas. It states that researchers located communal roots in October 2003 to monitor the population. The results show that 60% of chough's population on the island was non-breeders and that floaters used most communal roosts during the breeding season. It mentions that the high proportion of non-breeding choughs in the area suggests that the non-breeding floaters saturate the area due to limitations of breeding opportunities. Furthermore, the dominance of gregarious floater that contributes to the dense chough population in the area is considered as a guarantee of persistence.

The article focuses on the development of the legal framework governing ownership of land and water resources in the early 16th century in the Canary Islands. It considers the role of the sugar cane industry in the Spanish colonization of the island during the period 1480-1530. The author discusses the political and legal environment which impacted the alteration of Spanish peninsular legal practice and considers how these property and water rights favored the capitalization of water resources by the sugar industry.
