In the advent of the smart era, wearable electronic devices have become ubiquitous in people's lives. However, the advancement of wearable devices is impeded by the limitations of conventional commercial batteries, thus necessitating the development of a stable, safe, high flexible, and cost-effective energy storage solution to power wearable electronics. In this study, we propose a quasi-solid-state fiber-shaped Zn-MnO2battery (FZMB) featuring a simple fabrication process, enhanced safety, efficiency, and superior mechanical performance, achieved through a three-dimensional coaxial cylindrical structure electrode. This electrode comprises a 3D carbon nanofiber (CNF) substrate, MnO2active material, and a protective Poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) layer, denoted as PEDOT@MnO2@CNF. Through meticulous optimization of the electrode structure, the PEDOT@MnO2@CNF electrode exhibits a notable capacity of 258.54 mAh g−1at 0.1 A g−1and exceptional rate performance, delivering 118.11 mAh g−1at 2 A g−1in an aqueous electrolyte. Notably, the quasi-solid-state FZMB demonstrates a substantial capacity of 123.37 mAh g−1at 0.5 A g−1, even when employing a gel electrolyte characterized by low ionic conductivity. Furthermore, the battery exhibits a satisfactory capacity retention rate of 62 % after 100 cycles. Additionally, under simulated extreme usage scenarios, the quasi-solid-state FZMB maintains a stable power output, underscoring its high reliability and availability. With its remarkable electrochemical and mechanical properties, this highly flexible battery represents a significant advancement in the power supply for wearable electronics, opening up new avenues for their utilization.

Herein, we propose a novel design of photo-assisted battery desalination, which provides the tri-function within a single device including the photo-assisted charge (electrical energy saving), energy storage, and desalination (salt removal). The photoelectrode (N719/TiO2) is directly integrated into the zinc-iodide (Zn-I) battery with the desalination stream in the middle portion of the device. This architecture can provide a reduced energy consumption up to 50%, an energy output of 42 W h mol–1NaCl, and a desalination rate of 13 μg/cm2min–1. This work is significant for the inter-discipline study of the redox flow energy storage and energy-saving desalination.
