Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) continue to be the main cause of death in our country. Adequate control of lipid metabolism disorders is a key challenge in cardiovascular prevention that is far from being achieved in real clinical practice. There is a great heterogeneity in the reports of lipid metabolism from Spanish clinical laboratories, which may contribute to its poor control. For this reason, a working group of the main scientific societies involved in the care of patients at vascular risk, has prepared this document with a consensus proposal on the determination of the basic lipid profile in cardiovascular prevention, recommendations for its realization and unification of criteria to incorporate the lipid control goals appropriate to the vascular risk of the patients in the laboratory reports.

Over the last few years, the use of automatic performance measurement systems has become relatively common among professional kayak paddlers. Although these systems are not able to perform a complete evaluation of the athlete, they can extract relevant parameters about the training result. Thus, different devices have been developed to measure relevant information such as paddling rhythm. The high price of these devices limits their use for amateur athletes. To overcome this limitation, the validity of the measurements provided by different smartphones, obtained from the integrated inertial sensors, has been analyzed. This study has compared the performance of different phones versus professional Movella DOT inertial measurement devices. The article presents a comparison of the results obtained and proves that smartphones produce results equivalent to those of conventional sensors.

Arrays of electrodeposited ZnO nanowires (NWs) were used to illustrate the dependence of the ZnO visible photoluminescence (PL) emission on the extension of the surface depletion layer and obtain further insight into the localization of the related states. With this goal in mind, three sets of measurements were carried out: (i) analysis of the PL spectra of ZnO:Cl NWs as a function of their carrier concentration; (ii) analysis of the PL spectra of ZnO:Cl/ZnO core–shell NWs as a function of the thickness of their intrinsic ZnO shell; (iii) in situ analysis of the PL dependence on the polarization of ZnO:Cl photoelectrodes. The obtained experimental results evidenced that the yellow and orange emissions from electrodeposited ZnO NWs are correlated with the extension of the NWs surface depletion region. This result points out the surface localization of the states at the origin of these transitions. On the other hand, the green emission that dominates the visible part of the PL spectra in annealed ZnO NWs showed no dependence on the surface band bending, thus pointing toward its origin in the bulk.

Copper-based selenides are attracting increasing interest due to their outstanding optoelectronic and thermoelectric properties. Herein a novel colloidal synthetic route to prepare Cu2SnSe3nanocrystals with controlled size, shape and composition is presented. The high yield of the developed procedure allowed its up-scaling to the production of grams of colloidal Cu2SnSe3nanocrystals. These nanocrystals were used as building blocks for the production of Cu2SnSe3bulk nanostructured materials by spark plasma sintering. The thermoelectric properties of the prepared nanocrystalline Cu2SnSe3pellets were characterized in the temperature range from 300 to 720 K. The obtained results show the bottom-up production of nanocrystalline materials from solution-processed nanocrystals to be a potentially advantageous alternative to conventional methods of production of efficient thermoelectric materials.

Creases are a type of ridge/valley structures of an image characterized by local conditions. As creases tend to be at the center of anisotropic grey-level shapes, creaseness can be considered a measure of medialness, and therefore as useful in many image analysis problems. Among the several possibilities, a priorithe creaseness based on the level-set extrinsic curvature (LSEC) is especially interesting due to its invariance properties. However, in practice, it produces a discontinuous response with a badly dynamic range. The same problems arise with other related creaseness measures proposed in the literature. In this paper, we argue that these problems are due to the very local definition of the LSEC. Therefore, rather than designing an ad hocsolution, we propose two new multilocal creaseness measures that we will show to be free of discontinuities and to have a meaningful dynamic range of response. Still, these measures are based on the LSEC idea, to preserve its invariance properties. We demonstrate the usefulness of the new creaseness measures in the context of two applications that we are currently developing in the field of 3D medical image analysis, the rigid registration of CT and MR head volumes and the orientation analysis of trabecular bone patterns.
