La aniridia congénita es una patología multisistémica derivada de una mutación en el gen PAX6que afecta severamente al desarrollo y a la función de los globos oculares. En los pacientes afectados por esta enfermedad, además de la ausencia o defectos en la formación del iris, anomalías y opacidades del cristalino e hipoplasia de la mácula, la patología de la superficie ocular es la responsable del deterioro visual y de la calidad de vida en un porcentaje muy importante de casos. La insuficiencia límbica producida por la enfermedad, junto con la inestabilidad y el deterioro de la película lagrimal desarrollan la llamada queratopatía que, en estadios avanzados, conlleva la opacificación final de la córnea.

This study is aimed at studying the correlation between the 1-hour and 24-hour pad tests for urinary incontinence following prostatectomy; the second objective is to check whether the severity level established by both tests is adequate for male urinary incontinence.

Alcanzar un conocimiento más profundo (y con el soporte empírico adecuado) de los saques de esquina en el fútbol de máximo nivel. Se pretende conocer la incidencia real de este tipo de acciones durante los partidos, así como describir cuáles son las prácticas habituales. A continuación, se pretende identificar aquellas variables que puedan estar asociadas a la eficacia de estas acciones.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is vital for the survival of people who has suffered a cardiac arrest. In order to achieve a good quality CPR performance, rescuer needs a good training which could be gotten with the use of feedback devices. The aim of this study was to compare the use of visual feedback device in CPR training to learning without feedback. Ninety-nine subjects without basic life support knowledge participating in the study were divided into three groups. All of them carried out two tests: 2 minutes of CPR with compressions and ventilations. First two groups received trainings on CPR between the tests (experimental groups): one group with instructor-led training and the other one with visual feedback device. The third group did not receive any training between the tests (control group). In the first test no differences among the three groups were found. The experimental groups improved their scores in the last test. The number of correct chest compressions by hand position and depth, and the number of correct rescue breaths was increased. The experimental group with visual feedback CPR training achieved better scores of quality CPR in the second test than the instructor-led training group. The visual feedback and instruction-led training have positive effects on the quality CPR. The use of visual feedback during learning has greater benefits than instruction-led training in the three variables analysed.

A study of the effect of an ionomer compatibilizer (surlyn® 9520 and 9721, both with zinc as the neutralizing cation) on the morphology and properties of a high density polyethylene (HDPE) - montmorillonite clay nanocomposite was carried out. The nanoclay used was cloisite 20A®. Polyethylene /Ionomer /Clay nanocomposites were prepared via melt mixing in a twin screw extruder. The nanoclay dispersion and exfoliation were examined through X-Ray Difraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). TGA was carried out to determine the effect of nanoclay on the thermal stability of the HDPE nanocomposites. Results showed that both ionomers impart a marked compatibility between the polymer and the nanoclay, promoting the exfoliation of the nanoclay within the HDPE matrix. Nonetheless, ionomer 9520 (with the higher degree of neutralization) at 10 and 12 wt% content produced completely exfoliated morphologies, whereas, the ionomer 9721 produced a lesser degree of exfoliation with few tactoids.

The issue of competition for nodulation has received much attention in studies on soybean [Glycine max(L.) Merr.] crops because native soil rhizobia often preclude nodulation of inoculated high‐quality strains. In this work, soil placement and enhanced motility of Bradyrhizobium japonicumwere investigated as strategies to improve the competitiveness of soybean inoculants applied in the presence of large populations of native (or indigenous) soybean‐nodulating rhizobia. The first strategy might allow for the enhanced distribution of inoculant rhizobia in the surface soil, compared with inoculant that is directly applied to soybean seed, while the second strategy is expected to enhance root colonization. The effects of soil placement and enhanced bacterial motility on percentage nodule occupation, grain yield, and grain N contents were examined during the 2004–2005 soybean season at three locations in Argentina, comprising soils classified as entic hapludol, argillic pelludert, and typical argiudol. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design, and main effects and interactions were also analyzed with a factorial design. Strain LP 3008, previously selected for increased motility, was more effective than the commonly inoculated strain E 109. While E 109 occupied, on average, 13.2% of nodules with seed inoculation, LP 3008 occupied 28.2%. In comparison, in‐furrow inoculation yielded 24.2 and 37.2% average nodule occupancies for E 109 and LP 3008, respectively. However, these gains in nodulation efficacy lead to a modest, nonsignificant yield increase, and grain N content was unaffected.
