This review article is the first to compile the state of the art on zeolite membranes for natural gas processing. It provides industry context, describes zeolite structure and highlights commonly used compounds. Recent advancements in CO 2 and N 2 -selective zeolite membranes significantly improved selectivities and permeances when compared to commercial membranes. The more selective zeolite membranes offer benefits such as reduced energy demand, suggesting lower operations costs. However, further studies are required to assess long-term operation and separation performance in multicomponent systems for commercial deployment of zeolite membranes. Finally, the future perspectives of zeolite membranes for natural gas processing were analyzed. • Novel zeolite membranes have shown improved performance for natural gas processing. • Zeolite structure was explored and the advantages for gas separation were shown. • Reported selectivities and permeances in recent literature were compiled. • Highest selectivities found were 1172 for CO 2 /CH 4 separation and 13.5 for N 2 /CH 4. • Future perspectives for use of zeolite membranes in the NG industry were detailed.
