Sulfoxonium ylides as carbene precursors couple smoothly with thioureas in the presence of 5 mol% of rhodium(II) acetate dimmer viacarbenoid insertion to afford the corresponding 2-aminothiazoles with high chemoselectivity, providing a facile and efficient approach to access a variety of 2-aminothiazole derivatives with good functional groups tolerance.

Background and aim: Skeletal muscle (SM) has been shown as a target of thyroid hormones (THs). However, the status of TH signaling in aged SM remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the mechanism of TH signaling in SM of aging mice. Methods: Thirty C57BL/6J male mice were divided into 6-, 15- and 22-month (6, 15 and 22M) groups according to different age. Physical parameters were evaluated by analytical balance, grip strength test and histological analysis. Thyroid function was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. TH signaling was compared among the three groups by real-time PCR and western blotting analysis. Results: p16, p21, and p53 mRNA levels in SM increased in age-dependent manner. The muscle weight and strength decreased in 22M group compared to 6 and 15M groups. Concentrations of thyroid hormones, including free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in 22 M mice were not shown significant difference compared to 6M or 15M mice, although FT3 showed slightly decrease and TSH appeared a mild increase accompanying with age. mRNA levels of TH transporters, including MCT8 and MCT10, as well as iodothyronine deiodinase type 2 (DIO2) and type 3 (DIO3), were higher in 22M, while TH receptor α (TRα) mRNA and protein expression was lower in 22M, compared to the other groups. Type-I myosin heavy chain (MyHC I), MyHC IIx, and MyHC IIa were upregulated and Type-IIb MyHC (MyHC IIb) was downregulated in SM with advancing age. Conclusions: TH signaling in SM changes with aging.

Sarcopenic obesity (SO) refers to an obesity disease accompanied by low skeletal muscle quality, strength and/or function, which is more common in the elderly and seriously affects their quality of life and can lead to falls, unstable walking, balance disorders and fractures in the elderly. The increase in aging populations and the various health problems and medical costs associated with SO have aroused widespread concern in society. However, the pathogenesis of SO has not been fully clarified and the diagnostic criteria are not uniform, meaning that there are inconsistent data on the prevalence of SO and the potential correlation between SO and health outcomes. Therefore, we review the research progress on delineating the pathogenesis and diagnostic criteria of SO, to assist in the early diagnosis and evaluation of SO and subsequent interventions.

Objective: An increased leukocyte count is positively associated with poor outcomes and all-cause mortality in coronary heart disease, cancer, and ischemic stroke. The role of leukocyte count in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains important. We aimed to investigate the association between admission leukocyte count before thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) and 3-month outcomes in AIS patients. Methods: This retrospective study included consecutive AIS patients who received intravenous (IV) rt-PA within 4.5 h of symptom onset between January 2016 to December 2018. We assessed outcomes, including short-term hemorrhagic transformation (HT), 3-month mortality, and functional independence (modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score of 0-2 or 0-1). Results: Among 579 patients who received IV rt-PA, 77 (13.3%) exhibited HT at 24 h, 43 (7.4%) died within 3 months, and 211 (36.4%) exhibited functional independence (mRS score: 0-2). Multivariable logistic regression revealed admission leukocyte count as an independent predictor of good and excellent outcomes at 3 months. Each 1-point increase in admission leukocyte count increased the odds of poor outcomes at 3 months by 7.6% (mRS score: 3-6, odds ratio [OR]: 1.076, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.003-1.154, p=0.041) and 7.8% (mRS score: 2-6, OR: 1.078, 95% CI: 1.006-1.154, p=0.033). Multivariable regression analysis revealed no association between HT and 3-month mortality. Admission neutrophil and lymphocyte count were not associated with 3-- month functional outcomes or 3-month mortality. Conclusion: A lower admission leukocyte count independently predicts good and excellent outcomes at 3 months in AIS patients undergoing rt-PA treatment.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum(MG) is a highly contagious avian respiratory pathogen characterized by rapid spread, widespread distribution, and long-term persistence of infection. Previous studies have shown that chicken macrophage HD11 cells play a critical role in the replication and immunomodulation of MG. Macrophages are multifunctional immunomodulatory cells that polarize into different functions and morphologies in response to exogenous stimuli. However, the effect of MG infection on HD11 polarization is not well understood. In this study, we observed a time-dependent increase in both the expression of the MG-related virulence protein pMGA1.2 and the copy number of MG upon MG infection. Polarization studies revealed an upregulation of M1-type marker genes in MG-infected HD11 cells, suggesting that MG mainly induces HD11 macrophages towards M1-type polarization. Furthermore, MG activated the inflammatory vesicle NLRP3 signaling pathway, and NLRP3 inhibitors affected the expression of M1 and M2 marker genes, indicating the crucial regulatory role of the NLRP3 signaling pathway in MG-induced polarization of HD11 macrophages. Our findings reveal a novel mechanism of MG infection, namely the polarization of MG-infected HD11 macrophages. This discovery suggests that altering the macrophage phenotype to inhibit MG infection may be an effective control strategy. These findings provide new perspectives on the pathogenic mechanism and control measures of MG.

This study analyzes data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2021 to systematically assess global epidemiological trends and the malaria burden from 1990 to 2021, providing scientific insights for malaria prevention and control.

Dengue is an acute viral infectious disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted through mosquitoes. Although numerous studies have examined the global burden of dengue, comprehensive and systematic global analyses remain limited. This study uses data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2021 to systematically analyze the global epidemiological trends and disease burden of dengue from 1990 to 2021.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum(MG) is a common avian pathogen that mainly infects poultry, causing significant reductions in body weight gain and egg production, along with damage to immune organs and immunosuppression. MG is susceptible to co-infections with other pathogens, leading to increased mortality rates and significant economic losses in the global poultry industry. While antibiotics have been extensively applied worldwide to treat MG infections in poultry production, concerns regarding antibiotic resistance and residue remain prevalent. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), renowned for its natural, safe, and non-toxic properties, has shown significant anti-inflammatory and immune-enhancing effects. This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of TCM on production performance and its impact on MG-induced immunosuppression through the MAPK/ERK/JNK signaling pathway in chickens. Our results showed that TCM alleviated the negative effects of MG infection on production performance, as evidenced by improvements in body weight gain, feed conversion rate, survival rate, and immune organ index. TCM exhibited direct inhibition of the MG proliferation in vitroand in vivo. Furthermore, TCM treatment promoted the normalization of trachea and lung tissue structure in MG-infected chickens, leading to a significant reduction in inflammatory damage. Moreover, following the treatment with the TCM, the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) decreased significantly, accompanied by the downregulation of pro-apoptotic genes caspase3, caspase9, and BAX, both in vitroand in vivo. A mechanism-based study showed that in vitroand in vivotreatment with the TCM significantly reduced the expression of key proteins, including early growth response gene1 (EGR1), p-ERK, p-JNK, and p-JUN. Altogether, TCM improved body weight gain, inhibited pro-inflammation responses, and alleviated tissue damage by inhibiting the MAPK/ERK/JNK signaling pathway to protect the performance and immune system of MG-infected chickens.

The drop-rate and net delay during video network transmission are two important factors in ensuring video network transmission quality. The purpose of network congestion control is to reduce the bad quality impact of video network transmission caused by net delay and the drop-rate. This paper proposes an algorithm of video network transmission based on unbalanced multiple description coding, which is capable of quickly recovering from packet losses and ensuring continuous playback, and further adaptive to both multiple path and single path transmission. Markov model was employed to predict the state of network congestion based on available bandwidth detection; and video transmission path was changed on the basis of the prediction. The experiments show that, compared with RED algorithm, the algorithm is much more effective to estimate network congestion, reduce video packet loss rate and net delay, thus the video network transmission quality can be ensured more effectively.

•Compared to healthy controls, MS and AQP4- NMOSD had axonal loss within normal-appearing white matter (NAWM).•At group-level, a gradient was seen in NAWM periventricular microstructural abnormalities in MS, suggesting that the process leading to this gradient is unique to MS.•At individual-level, NAWM periventricular abnormality gradients account for cognitive decline in MS and physical disability in AQP4+ NMOSD.

The objective of this study is to determine the property of human perirenal adipose tissue (PAT) and assess the adipose property of PAT in hypertension. Ninety-four patients, including 64 normotensive patients (T-NP) and 30 hypertensive patients (HP), who underwent renal surgery were included. Expression analysis was performed using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry in PAT and back subcutaneous adipose tissue (bSAT) depots. Compared with bSAT, PAT adipocytes were smaller, and the expressions of uncoupling protein-1 (UCP1) mRNA and protein were markedly higher, while the mRNA expressions of markers for classic beige and white adipocytes were lower in PAT. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed more multilocular UCP1-positive adipocytes in PAT than in bSAT. UCP1 expressions were lower in PAT in HP than in the T-NP or age- and body mass index-matched NP groups. Bigger unilocular adipocytes with less UCP1 staining in PAT were detected in HP than in NP group, although no such difference was observed in bSAT. PAT acts as a brown-like fat. UCP1 expression of PAT was lower in HP than in normotensive patients. UCP1 expression of PAT may serve as a protective indicator for hypertension.

In this paper, a comprehensive method combined spot-survey and numerical simulation tests has been used to make an approach to systematically study of the technology of level artificial ground freezing in tunnel connecting passage construction. By simulating the freezing process of artificially frozen soils of Dalian Road tunnel connecting passage with finite element analysis method, the varying laws of temperature fields, displacement fields and stress fields had been worked out. According to the results of actual field survey, the changing laws of frost heave pressure and tunnel deformation with freezing temperature, elapsed freezing time during the artificial ground freezing period are obtained. The laws from finite element analysis are consistent with that from field survey, which has proved that finite element analysis is correct. The conclusions of the research prove the advantages of horizontal artificial ground freezing in such similar construction and set up a successful model for related freezing projects in the future, which, will guide the coming practice and safeguard the success.

Microencapsulated Phase change material can absorb and release large amounts of latent heat over a defined temperature range as its physical state changes. The microencapsulated PCM has high energy density and isothermal behavior during charging and discharging and can avoid the contradiction of the energy supply and demand unbalance in time and space. Meanwhile, the shell can separate the phase change material from the outside environment in order to protect the core material. But the super-cooling problem is a main barrier for microencapsulated PCM application. So this paper talks about how to dealing with super-cooling based on related literatures and gives an overview about the methodology in this area.

Ammonium sulfate, ammonium bisulfate and ferric oxide are mixed at a molar ratio of 8:5:13 and heated in high temperature muffle furnace or fluidized bed at different temperature. To the sample, the thermal gravimetric (TG) analysis is used, the reaction residue is analyzed by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and chemical analysis, the generated gas is qualitatively analyzed as well. The process of thermal decomposition for ammonium sulfate and ammonium bisulfate via addition of Ferric oxide has four stages-the decomposition of ammonium sulfate, the formation of ammonium ferric pyrosulfate, the decomposition of ammonium ferric pyrosulfate, and the decomposition of ferric sulfate. The ammonium ion in sample is completely decomposed at about 500°C. The decomposition ratio of sulfate ion or bisulfate ion is up to 99.8% above 800°C.

Signal recovery is a key issue in compressed sensing field. A new greedy reconstruction algorithm termed Optimised Stagewise Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OSOMP) is proposed, which is an improved version for Stagewise Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (StOMP). In preselection step, OSOMP chooses several coordinates with a calculated threshold to accelerate the convergence of algorithm. In following pruning step, a small proportion of selected coordinates are discarded according to the amplitude of estimated signal, thus most false discovered coordinates can be swept away. Experimental results show that in OSOMP, the scale of estimated support can be controlled very well, and the successful recovery rate is also much higher than that in StOMP.

Electrolytic products are hard to be removed from the machining gap in micro ECM (electrochemical machining) process, which may lower the machining speed or even stop the machining process. Intermittent withdrawal of electrode is an effective way to cleanse electrolytic products, renew electrolyte in the gap, and promote the continuance of machining process. The influence of electrolytic products’ removal rate upon machining speed is analyzed in the case of intermittent withdrawal of electrode. Results show that the machining speed does not increase monotonously with the decrease of inter-electrode distance. Considering machining efficiency and accuracy, machining gap should be the corresponding gap value when the machining speed reaches its maximum.

In micro electrochemical machining (micro ECM), side-insulation of tool electrode can significantly improve the machining accuracy, especially for high aspect ratio structures. This paper presented a new side-insulation approach for not only micro single electrodes but also micro array electrodes, in which spin-coating and room curing are used to coat the micro tool electrodes with a very thin film of polymer, followed by an end-rubbing process to remove the insulation material from the electrode end surfaces. Processing parameters of spin-coating were optimized experimentally, and side-insulated micro single electrodes with a double-layer epoxy coating of 3m thickness were prepared. Experiments were made to test the performance of the side-insulation film under simulated micro ECM conditions. And the results demonstrated good insulativity and high adherence strength in a 6-hour durability test. Also side-insulation for micro array electrodes was performed using this approach.

Angiostrongyliasis cantonensis, clinically presented as eosinophilic meningitis, is a snail-borne parasitic disease. We studied the effects of different temperatures on the larval development of Angiostrongylus cantonensisin the freshwater snail Pomacea canaliculata. Six groups of snails were infected and each group was cultured under different temperature conditions. At predefined intervals, four snails from each group were dissected to examine the larval development. The development–time curve of each group was drawn according to the fraction of third-stage larvae present. The developmental time was defined as the time needed until 50% of the first-stage larvae developed into third-stage larvae.
